Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Cait and Cody make a great couple and their relationship is moving along in the right direction, (the direction toward the altar). I like spending time with Cait and her family and friends, I feel like I am there visiting my friends. They will do anything to help each other and to see justice served. And as usual, the magical cats help to solve any mystery and add a special mystical feeling to the story.

The mystery is well developed and well rounded. There are enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. Throw in some red herrings and twist and turns and your have a top notch mystery to solve. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. There is enough descriptions of the setting that I felt like I was right there, visiting the island, but not so much as to bog down the book.

I would recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery with a touch of magic. Pick up your copy and see what I mean.

This is the 16th book in this series and the story lines still feel fresh. This time, we start at the grand opening of the newly remodeled bar now run by Cait's brothers, Aiden and Danny Hart. However, during this successful turnout, Cait has an unfortunate meeting with a former classmate and Islander, Monica, who had dated both Danny and Cody in the past. And she insists that she is here to take back Cody, despite his being Cait's intended. When the confrontation turns physical, Danny has to escort her out. But when her body turns up, Danny becomes one of the prime suspects. It is time for Cait and the gang to clear his name and find the real suspect. I enjoy the connections Cait has with her family and close friends. And of course, each story features a magical cat that helps lead Cait to the truth. This cat has another unique talent, fake hair-ball hacking (all cat owners can relate to immediately running to that sound!), that will serve to be a key clue in the end. This story, besides the mystery, also captures the excitement of Cait and Cody's recent engagement and their plans for the future. I can't wait to read the next book and see how these things work out. Added extras in this book are several recipes and another Whales and Tails short story that was also fun to read. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this book.

It is almost Halloween and Cody, Cait and their family and friends are helping out at the opening to the bar Cait’s brothers Aiden and Danny purchased. Unfortunately a body is found in the storeroom just before closing. This is a wonderful book with lots of suspects to choose from. I loved it from beginning to end!

“A Whisker in Time” earns 5/5 Karmic Bites…Murderously Exciting!

I love visiting Madrona Island! Kathi Daley always gives an entertaining story with a clever feline twist, and this time Karma plays a big role. Caitlin is excited about her brothers’ renovated watering hole looking to remain as the social center of a tight-knit community, but helping out during the opening night she gets accosted by her nemesis. Do you see where this is going? Monica Caldron only recently returned to Madrona Island announcing her intentions to seduce Caitlin’s fiancé away from her. Then a push, an arm pinning, a slap, and Monica’s body found in the bar’s storage room. Oooh, Karma can be so murderously exciting!

Karma is my favorite purveyor of justice! It is very cathartic to live vicariously through these events chronicling the downfall of Caitlin’s nemesis…back-stabbers beware! I also enjoy that Kathi Daley has her characters realistically collaborating with, not ignoring, local law enforcement. For Caitlin it is easier to do since the local sheriff has been a friend and now her brother-in-law. But, this time he has to recuse himself because of the family connection adding a delicious element of conflict when a new officer is put in charge of the investigation who has a connection with Caitlin’s brother that could askew his impartiality. WOW! It all culminates in quite a page-turning adventure…highly recommended!

BIG BONUS! Kathi always adds a bonus for her fans to enjoy, and this book is no exception with the inclusion of a Whales and Tails Mini Mystery, “The Cat of New Orleans.” Caitlin and Cody planned a romantic weekend in the Big Easy, but instead wind up engaged in a humidity-laden scavenger hunt to help restore the magic of Madrona Island and save Tansy’s life. But a change of plans, a cat seen following them, voodoo doll, and a trip deep into the bayou highlights an exciting tale! I loved it!

A Whisker in Time by Kathi Daley was a perfect afternoon read for me. I have enjoyed every one of the books in this series. This book has everything that I've come to expect from Ms. Daley's writing. The characters are all likable and Madrona Island seems to be a perfect place to set down roots - in spite of the murders. A well crafted plot with several suspects, red herrings and plenty of twists to keep me guessing until the shocking reveal. I never saw it coming.

A Whisker in Time is the sixteenth book in Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery. This steadily paced book has a well-plotted storyline, three-dimensional characters that are affable, and sends a message on the importance of family and friendship. Ms. Daley’s writing style flows smoothly, and this book is a clean and easy read. The mystery is intriguing, with multiple suspects and lots of red herrings and twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.

Cait Hart’s brothers, Aiden and Danny, who purchased a local watering hole, have completed the remodel, and are ready for the grand reopening O’Malley’s. The reopening is a great success, but a body that’s discovered in the storage room after closing puts a damper on their elation. Earlier in the evening, Monica Caldron, who had recently returned to Madrona Island, and Cait get into a physical altercation and Danny removes Monica from the bar. Since Danny is a suspect, the sheriff brings in Mitch Bronson from San Juan Island and removes Deputy Ryan Finnegan from the investigation because he’s married to Danny’s sister, Siobhan. Deputy Bronson holds a grudge against Danny and even though he told the sheriff he could be impartial, Cait has serious doubts that that’s true. While Deputy Bronson focuses on Danny, Cait and gang uncover multiple suspects with viable reasons to want Monica dead. Magical cats usually show up to help Cait solve mysteries, so when one doesn’t appear, Cait tries to contact Tansy, her witch friend. Tansy was out of town, but left a message with her business and life partner, Bella, that a spotted newcomer would help Cait. Mystic, one of the Harthaven Cat Sanctuary cats, is a beautiful black-and-brown-spotted cat who looks like a small leopard, leads the team to valuable pieces of evidence.

In this new book of the series Cait is helping out her brothers Danny and Aiden with the opening of the bar they purchased. Things are going well, the bar is packed, and everyone involved couldn't be happier that is until someone decides to make a scene. The woman, who attended high school with the group not only hits on Cody but knocks Cait over and into a table. Danny doesn't like what he sees and immediately kicks the woman out of the bar. At closing time while everyone is cleaning up Cait happens to come across the woman's dead body in the storage room. Who killed her and why? Danny looks like the perfect suspect to the policeman brought into solve the case but the gang isn't going to let him be railroaded. Everyone joins together and devises a plan on how they can solve this mystery before Danny ends up in jail. Along the way a cat name Mystic enters the picture to help lead them all in the right direction. Will they be able to put all the clues together to come up with an answer or will the case go unsolved and a cloud hang over Danny's head. Dive in as each member does their part to help and find out if Cait and Cody set a date for their wedding. This is such a fun series, the mysteries are always well plotted, the cats that make an appearance always have their own personality. I think the addition of a bit of magic makes for a livelier read and always look forward to each new book. I can't wait to see where the author takes everyone next.

A Whisker in Time is such an enjoyable book! I love each new book in this series and this one just might be my favorite so far.

Cait's brother, Danny is in hot water and Finn has been pulled off the case, so it's up to Cait, her family and friends to figure it all out.

One thing I really love about these books is how Cait and family always have each other's backs.

If you like sweet romantic mysteries, you should love this series. Highly recommended.

Its Halloween time and Cait's brother's bar is having opening night and a murder has happened. Loved all the characters and more about their family pulling together. The storyline is so interesting and intriguing that was so much more than I expected. I couldn't pull it down. This is definitely getting better and better with each book. A great read!

A Whisker In Time is 16th in Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails series. Folks on Madrona Island, off the coast of Washington State, are getting ready for Halloween while Caitlin’s brothers Aiden and Danny celebrate the grand opening of O’Malley’s, which they purchased from the former owner and remodeled. Cait and her best friend Tara own Coffee Cat Books, a bookstore/ cat café and coffee shop. Cats are very important in Cait’s life; she and her sisters help care for those at the Harthaven Cat Sanctuary Their aunt opened it to help safely house the island’s feral cat population and short term, adoptable cats. Cait has help solved mysteries around the island, including murders, and at least one cat has always appeared to help her find the bad guy, a different one each time.
For O’Malley’s opening night, Cait and her sisters help serve the many anticipated patrons for the evening. The only dark moments that evening are when Monica, a former islander who says she returned to steal Cait’s fiancé Cody, shoves Cait hard enough to cause her to fall. Their fight is stopped by Danny before it barely got started. Danny, who had dated Monica long ago, dragged her through the back hall and sent out the back door.
During cleanup, Cait went to the store room to get a mop, and found a tarp lying on the floor with a shoeless foot sticking out. It was Monica. Dead. Mitch Bronson is sent over from the mainland to lead the investigation, since Finn, the island deputy, is brother-in-law to Danny, who may be considered a suspect. Mitch seems to have had it in for Danny in the past, so Cait isn’t confident he will do a good investigation because the last person admitting to seeing Monica alive said she was in the store room with Danny. The gang tries to figure out who the killer while Cait is concerned that no magical cat has come to help her solve the crime.
The characters are well-developed, primarily through realistic conversations and actions. Cait’s family is very close, along with Tara, Cody, Siobhan’s husband Finn, and their infant son. This can be read as a standalone as just enough background is given on each person to refresh one’s memory or show the first-time reader who’s who. I like Cait, especially for her loyalty to her family and friends, her determination to get justice – even if the victim wasn’t nice – and her love of her Madrona Island home. Tara is also a delight. I did miss seeing more of the Cat Sanctuary and Coffee Cat Books but seeing the brothers’ new venture was fun.
The plot has so many twists and turns! Many things are revealed about Monica, pointing to at least one more suspect with each revelation. When they finally peel through the layers of deceit and seemingly manic behavior, there can only be one bad guy left. But the person who can reveal the final layer refuses. The end has several surprises, not the least of which who the killer is – someone I never considered throughout the novel! This makes for one of the most challenging mysteries to date by the author, as well as one that has amazing good news and something to look forward to. I highly recommend A Whisker in Time, which includes a bonus short story, The Cat of New Orleans. It can be enjoyed year-round, not just at Halloween!
From a grateful heart: I received a copy of this from Kathi Daley Books Birthday Club, and a review was not required.

A Whisker in Time is another well written mystery in Kathi Daley’s Whales and Tails series.
Readers begin this visit to Madrona Island at the late October grand opening party of O’Malley’s bar, now owned and newly refurbished by Caitlin’s brothers, Aiden and Danny. Except for the arrival of Monica, a woman who has returned to the island after a decade and is now attempting to seduce many men, including Danny and Monica’s fiancé (Cody), the party seemed to be a success. However, the good feelings quickly subside when Monica is found dead in a storage room and Danny is the primary suspect.

Cait and her friends immediately step in to investigate and work to clear Danny’s name. As always,
help arrives in the form of a cat sent by Tansy, an island witch. There appear to be many who could
have a reason to want Monica dead and narrowing down the list of suspects is a difficult task.

Meanwhile, Monica and Cody, finally decide on a wedding date and start to make plans for the big day.

This is a good mystery, and one that leads the reader in many directions before letting us know who killed Monica. Because each book in this series can be read as a standalone, the reader gets enough information about the major characters to feel she knows something about them. There is a nice balance between the suspense of learning who killed Monica and the excitement of planning a wedding.

I do have one issue that bothered me. Quite honestly, I’d forgotten this book is a Halloween story until I reread the blurb on the back cover. There is very little mention of the holiday in this book.

Although I received a complimentary copy of A Whisker in Time, my review is completely voluntary and any opinions expressed are my own.

Love this series

This is book 16 in the Whales and Tails series is another great cozy mystery. Caitlin Hart's two brothers, Danny and Aiden have taken over the local bar and for opening night all of their family and friends are there to help out and celebrate with them. A woman from their last is found dead in the back room of the bar after having had an altercation with Cait and after being thrown out by Danny. Unfortunately since Danny was the last person seen with her, he becomes the prime suspect. Finn has to step aside as the deputy because he is married to Danny and Cait's sister Siobhan. The new deputy in charge has an old grudge against Danny so Cait and the gang begin their own investigation to solve the murder. What seems unusual this time is the lack of a magical cat's appearance. In the past when a murder occurs, a magical cat appears to help Cait solve the case. Finally after speaking with Bella, the town witch, Cait realizes the car is at her aunt's sanctuary. The cat"s name is Mystic and he does begin to assist Cait with the investigation. The further the gang investigates the stranger this case becomes and the more suspects appear on the horizon. The murdered woman was known throw herself at every man in town and she also had been acting stranger than usual lately. At the same time that they are trying to solve the murder, Cait and her fiance Cody are also trying to plan their wedding. Will the gang be able to solve the murder and save Danny from jail? Will Cait and Cody have time to plan their wedding? The book keeps you guessing right to it's surprising and exciting conclusion.

A Whisker in Time is the 16th episode in the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series. Kathi Daley writes yet another superb installment in this cozy mystery series, filled with all the elements of a cozy mystery including suspense, romance, humor, love, friends and family, and a sense of community.

This story takes place on Madrona Island, an island near Washington state, a few days before Halloween. Caitlin Hart, who owns the bookstore/coffee shop Coffee Cat Books with her best friend, Tara O’Brian, is with friends and family on the opening night of the newly renovated bar recently purchased by her two brothers, Aiden and Danny. She has a physical altercation with Monica Caldron, the ex-girlfriend of both her brother, Danny, and her boyfriend, Cody. During cleanup later that night, Cait finds Monica dead in the storage room. Danny is the prime suspect in her murder, due to the fact that he had pulled her out of the bar and escorted her out the back door past the storage room. Cait works with her friends and family, and the magical cat, Mystic, to uncover the murderer. (I laughed out loud when Cait took a page from Mystic’s playbook and started dry heaving to delay the killer.)

Ms. Daley’s writing flows smoothly, and her setting and relatable characters make for an extremely enjoyable and quick read. I look forward to the next chapter in Cait’s and Cody’s life. Also included is a bonus short story - The Cat of New Orleans.

I have been reading this series since the first book. As soon as a new one comes out I set aside time to enjoy. The characters are endearing. Each book is like a visit with old friends. And of course the cats are magical! Their clues are critical to solving the mysteries.

Over the course of time, things change. Children grow up, relationships strengthen or break. Traditions and routines, while cherished, sometimes need to be tweaked or set aside.
Cait and Cody know they are in love and want to be married. How to get it done without hurting someone's feeling?
Danny and Aiden are in business together. Their financial futures are riding on making the bar a success. Will a death there at the Grand Opening stop their dream before it begins or make them a more popular destination? Of course, that is if one of them is not convicted of murder.
Since Finn is now a member of the family, he can't investigate and the detective in charge has a grudge against Danny.

Full of tension but also friendship and a strong desire to find justice, can the group figure it out before the planned Halloween party? Secrets will be revealed and danger hits close to home.

I finished this book in one day.

This is a book in the brilliant cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley, who has written several cozy mystery series, featuring great characters, often accompanied by an animal.

In this series, Cait is always helped by a cat, who turns up when a mystery needs solving. Tansy, one of Cait's friends, and has mystical powers, is often the go between and knows when a cat is arriving.

In this book, a body is found in the bar which was recently opened by Cait's brothers Aiden and Danny, and Danny is the prime suspect. Cait is ably assisted by her husband to be, Cody; her Sister, Siobhan; Brother In Law who is the local Deputy, Finn; younger Sister Cassie and best friend and business partner in Coffee Cat Books, a bookstore/coffee bar/cat lounge, Tara.

The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series. The same regular characters appear in each book.

This is a great series, and one which is hard to stop reading, good thing the books are easily read in a few hours!

The Whales and Tails series is my favorite of Kathi Daley's and she sure keeps it fresh from book to book. Aidan and Danny are having the grand opening of O'Malley's Bar which they bought and restored. The fly in everyone's ointment is Monica, a girl from their past who seems to have it in for everyone. She's told Cait that she's going to win Cody back and has hit on many other men whether they're married or not. When Cait finds Monica's body in the bar's storeroom Danny becomes the primary person of interest so Cait, Cody, and the gang have to solve the mystery quickly especially since the deputy in charge dislikes him.

"A Whisker in Time" moves quickly and has a lot of twists and turns. It was a very enjoyable read. True to nature, Cait has a "magic" cat to help solve the mystery and a special home to find afterwards.

A Whisker in Time ( A Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery-Book 16 )
By: Kathi Daley
A whisker in Time is book sixteen by Kathi Daley in A Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series. The author knows how to draw you in right at the start and you are hooked. I did not want to put it down. Love this series. Love the story and the characters, both were well written and well developed. I was not disappointed. Cait is really busy in this story. Cait comes upon a dead body. This one calls for the whole team’s help. There are several suspects in this murder case ,and several that would have love to have killed the person themselves. Yes there is another mystery cat to help Cait. Does it come through for her? Can Cait and the team help with finding the real killed? You don’t want to miss out on this one.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Cody’s ex wife Monica is still in town causing grief to Cait by telling her that Cody still wants her and she will prove it to her. Meantime her brothers Danny and Aiden decide to buy a local bar. But on opening night a dead body is found in the storage closet by Cait. It turns out the body is that of Cody’s ex.

Danny is prime suspect as he was last seen with the victim as he kicked her out after her fight with Cait and once dated her. Cait is also a suspect as everyone knows that the victim threatened her. The Hart family reputation is at risk as they find the killing.

This was a very interesting murder story. The one that was murdered was the person that on one liked and was causing problems for everyone in town. In other words, everyone on the island had a motive. It was quite a job to isolate the one that did do it. This was one of those books that you keep reading and don't notice the time until you look up and it's morning. This was a fun story and I really enjoyed it, but it was not a halloween story. I think halloween was mentioned 3 times in passing. "I don't know when my sister had time to decorate for halloween." This was a story about murder and was very well done as a murder mystery.

A Whale and Tails Cozy Mystery by Kathi Daley. Caitlin Hart mystery from Madrona Island just off Washington State coast. Finally the big opening of her brothers pub! They have to find the killer quick. And figure a way to make Caits new to be mom in law happy with Caits wedding plans so they can move forward.

Some people enjoy being hated, but not being murdered

There were so many suspects in this case of who murdered the terrible person that it kept the sleuthing team busy. This was a great adventure, sifting through all of evidence and past mistakes to draw out the guilty person. I really enjoyed reading this book, my only minor complaint is the, "I guess we'll never know ", point. At that moment I'm screaming, just tell me, lol. The bonus short story at the end was excellent though. Now, I'm really looking forward to book 17.

Mystic

Another mystery solved with the aid of a magical cat. The close-knit Hart family and their friends once again encounter as murder, and sift through a myriad of suspects, all the while planning the wedding of Cait and Cody. The murderer is totally unexpected. There is a added bonus - a short story that takes you to the bayous of New Orleans; it's pretty frightening, but has its own magical ending. Happy reading!!

Mystic helps Cait and the gang solve the latest mystery.

At the grand opening of Aiden and Danny's bar Monica causes all kinds of trouble then is found dead in the storeroom. Finn is pulled off the case but once Danny is off the suspect list Finn becomes chief investigator. Cait and Cody begin preparations for their wedding. Another heartwarming book with suspence tucked between the pages.

A great addition to the series...and a bonus short story too that was very interesting! The author's stories are always well-written - this one was no exception. This book is just the right length for a few hours of escape from real life without feeling like anything was left out - the author has a real knack for that. I can't recommend her books highly enough!

I love the Whales and Tails cozy mystery books. This one was just as good as all the previous ones. Great story line, good characters, great cats and a mystery that I was totally baffled by. I didn't figure out who the bad person before the book unveiling, which I really liked. Can't wait to read more about wedding plans.
