In the RUNNING society most people will tell you what 9-MILERS are doing is IMPOSSIBLE. Running solid marathons without those endless long and slow 18+ mile training runs. Yet it’s happening EVERY DAY! 9-Milers are the REBELS. The ‘Crazy Ones’. The round pegs in the square holes. They’re NOT fond of the traditional running rules. 9-Milers CHANGE things. They PUSH things FORWARD. You can’t ignore them. 9-MILERS want to HAVING IT ALL. Living a busy LIFE with work, FAMILY and friends, AND enjoy the THRILL of running marathons at THE BIG EVENTS. Feeling GREAT. POWERFUL. Finish STRONG. FIT. Maybe even FASTER than they EVER thought POSSIBLE. Author and founder of 9MILER4LIFE Marlies Kort, 2h47 marathon finisher and Ironman 70.3 World Champion F40-44, doesn't want to CHANGE the way you're training today. With The 9-Mile Marathon Training System Marlies Kort wants to replace it with something TOTALLY NEW; training, running and 'living' The 9-Miler Way.
I’m not sure how to rate this book. It was recommended to me by a neighbor who has used this method quite successfully to run 50 marathons. My biggest issue is that it was in dire need of a better editor. The misspellings and redundancy was quite distracting. That being said, I think once you get to the the “meat” of the book, it was quite intriguing. If I’d read this a while ago, I probably would have been much more skeptical. However, watching my husband complete an Ironman with mostly interval training and only a handful of longer bike/runs has me convinced that this strategy is likely to be a success. I’m debating whether to use it prior to my first marathon or use my current traditional approach for my first and switch to the 9 mile program for the next…. Still undecided, but definitely interested.
I'm a competitive walker and I am looking to apply the concepts from this book to training for my 2nd half marathon. I'm intrigued by being better able to balance work, family, friends and training. There were a number of typographical errors and broken English which lead me to give a neutral rating.
Interesting concepts I plan to use for my training in upcoming Marathon. I hate the time commitment required for the typical marathon training and it becomes difficult when you have life events that override the plan. This plan is very flexible and more agile, if you miss a run you miss a run, keep moving forward. Looking forward to this journey.
Ohh such an interesting approach to prepare us, ordinary people and fans of running, complete long runs (marathons or half marathons) healthy and happy. I am for sure in. The only point missing to give 5 stars is the integration with running devices and apps
I like the approach to training differently for a marathon. The concept makes sense as far as recovery begin easier. I look forward to trying the plan very soon. The only drawback was it felt like a lot of marketing. I liked the testimonials but I felt like she was trying to oversell.
While it is a very innovative way to train for marathons, the book itself is poorly written. It is a shame because the advice and the training programs are good.
I am excited to be a part of a 9 mile marathon training program. We are in week 1 of the 90 day training. Her concept of Marathon Heart Rate is intriguing. The people I run with who have completed her 9 mile program say their 9 mile training marathons were easier with a shorter recovery than their traditional training marathons. I'll update my progress in November.
