"Once upon a time..."
...my best childhood nights had started with this wonderful phrase!

Ever since I can remember, I loved a good story!

All started thanks to my beloved grandfather! He used to read to my sister and me, stories of mighty princes and horrifying dragons! Even now, sometimes I miss those cold winters in front of the fireplace in my hometown, Texas!

My best stories though were the ones from the Bible! Such is the spiritual connection that a cozy warm pass through my body every time I hear a biblical story!

My childhood memories were not all roses, but I always knew that the strongest shelter would be always there for me! It was Him!

Years passed by, and little-Chloe grown up reading all kind of stories! It was no surprise that I had this urge to write my own stories, and share them with the word!

If I have a God's purpose on Earth, I think it is to spread His love and wisdom, through my stories!

I would have loved to give this book a higher rating because I really enjoyed the suspense & drama, plus the whole “love lost, love found again” story always makes for a good twist. I also quite enjoy the fact that both characters have given of themselves & helped others during their time apart & yet stayed faithful to the other despite the misunderstanding/unknowns keeping them apart.
Also.... I really enjoyed reading about Daisy & Clay. I hope they get their own story/happy ending.

The only parts I didn’t like about this book & which stopped me from giving it a full star rating, are the parts involving the Prophet. I am a Christian & I follow Christ’s example & the principles & teachings taught in the Bible as closely as I can, & I appreciate everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but everything about the Prophet made me super uncomfortable & nearly made me put the book down entirely. I don’t force my views or beliefs on anyone, & when it comes to my entertainment I try to take all of this into account, but I still like for it to be as close to my standards as possible for it to be truly comfortable & enjoyable. There is a word I think of for the scenes relating to the Prophet & it’s not angelic. So like I said, super uncomfortable for those bits.

Other than those parts I truly enjoyed the storyline & the character interactions. I’m really glad that this was a clean read. Only mild kissing involved & although there is reference to a self-defence killing during a flashback & some other fighting, there is no gory details.
Provided the supernatural element doesn’t continue to be a feature in future books as it was in this one I would be happy to continue reading & enjoying this authors novels.

Different...But still good!

Compared to a number of the author's prior books, this one was a lot less inspirational. Except for the prophet (who wasn't always publically received as even sane so therefore not generally believed), no major character had any actual active faith in God. Was a generally clean read but I didn't feel real closure spiritually for the main characters. Overall, as simply a romance novel I enjoyed it.

Though set in the Old West, I was surprised to find the setting ranging from a backwoods cabin in the mountains to a fancy French clothing store in Denver to a noisy casino. From what I know it all seemed historically accurate, though I don't know enough about fashion to know if the rich clothes were in the right time period.

There were several main characters, almost too many to care about. Doc and Kate are lovers at the beginning. Then after they're separated, they each adopt a child, Kate obtaining Emil, a 6-year-old Creole boy who acts like a 20-something cad, Doc rescuing Daisy, a rambunctious and impolite tomboy. I liked Clay a lot. I wish we had got more about him, why he's alone, what he plans to do next (we're kind of left hanging as to him and Daisy). I never did decide if I believed the Prophet.

The style of writing is nice, nothing spectacular or unique, but also very little that took me out of the story. The action scenes are handled well with great pacing. The character-building was too thin for me (but then again, that's the most important aspect to story for me, and I'm picky). It was very well proofread, though, as I don't think I saw a single grammatical error, which is enjoyable and refreshing.

The humor is subtle, more of a gentle fun-poking at the flaws of Emil and Daisy.

The faith thread was weak to me. There was no mention of Jesus anywhere in the story, the Prophet was a mystical being possibly an angel but kind of rough, and the “conversion” at the end was very wishy-washy—even the person converted couldn't say for sure if he had “given his life to God” or not. I didn't even hear a single thing about religion until almost a third of the way into the book, so little that I actually thought I had made a mistake and picked up a book that wasn't actually Christian fiction. I would have to say this is more like clean romance than anything else.

Overall, I enjoyed the story but I was disappointed. I kept wanting more but was left unsatisfied.

(I received this book for free. The decision to write a review, as well as the opinions expressed in it, are all my own. I was not compensated for this review.)

The book starts out with a good hook but right away I didn't feel the atmosphere a Christian novel exudes. After Doc and Kate are separated the story becomes disjointed for me. It means a lot to me when an author trusts me with an advanced copy of their work. I take the responsibility very seriously. There are gaps in the story that threw me off a building momentum. I was disappointed more than once when the story started in a strong direction then swerved away. In all honesty the character of Emil was a creepy little boy and ruined my 'perception ' of Kate's intelligence with her allowing the perpetuation of him acting like a grown up dandy. It irritated me. I truly wish a first reader would have advised the author to work on this some more. She has talent and this isn't the best it could be. I'm sorry to have to say so. The 'prophet' could have really been developed into something big, perhaps angelic and that was just dropped in my opinion. And Kate ordering people's lives in another sudden twist of character - oh boy! I'm not totally thrown off choosing another of Chloe Carley's books because there were things I really liked about this one including the hearts of the main characters as they sacrificed for others. There were also times it was a page turner. This review is entirely my own opinion.

I purchased a copy of the novel Colorado Bliss: The Frontier Gambler's Lady by Chloe Carley and this review was given freely.
Gideon/Doc meets Kate on a gambling riverboat. They escape with $25,000, become engaged, are separated by a bounty hunter, but reunite ten years later as single parents in the small Colorado town of Wolf Table. Daisy is a16 year old unschooled tomboy who is most comfortable in pants and in the mountains. Emil is a precocious 6 year who was born in New Orleans, has the language of a well educated 10 year old and the height and physical abilities of a 10 or 12 year old. Death, some gruesome attacks, gambling, spirituality, and some colorful characters make this an interesting and action packed novel .

Loved it!

More great writing from Chloe Carley. This story starts with Doc Dailey, a river boat gambler and Kate Dubois, a dealer on this same boat. The deeper story here is that Doc has just won $25,000 at poker while Kate was the dealer and after he had caught one of the other players cheating. Also, Doc and Kate are madly in love with each other and the owner of the boat Judge Carter is livid about the money loss but of a greater concern to him is that he wants Kate for himself. Doc and Kate sneak away to make a life together, unfortunately, Judge sends bounty hunters after Doc intent to kill him. During an encounter with one of the bounty hunters, the two are separated. Ten years go by with one thinking the other is dead. And this is only a slice of the story....

JACKPOT!!!
Talk about hitting it big. Whew! This is one wild ride you won't want to miss. The characters are well developed and believable with just the right amount of flaws to appear warm blooded with a pulse. Their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balance out perfectly. The scenes are vividly detailed and realistic that adds flavor to bring this backdrop together beautifully. Twists, turns and all the suspense and danger it keeps your attention on this page turning bombshell. Chloe did a magnificent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Chloe, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.

Sweet story

Interesting characters and very well written. Juicy sweet but also some interesting plots. For example Crunchy the humongous grizzly bear—not just a legend but a true threat in the story. The 6 year old little man- he added a lot of humor, the main lady thought dead and mourned by the gambler not to mention the main man Doc Dailey aka the gambler aka Gideon and his “daughter” the ultimate tomboy all these characters added great dimension to the story. It is a book hard to put down because you gotta find out what each one in the story is up to. I highly recommend this book it is a light read with a good storyline.

Another wonderful western romance novel set in 1880 around Denver, Colorado. The vivid descriptions of the towns and mountain countryside brought the story to life for me.

The main characters, Doc & Kate were very likable and real. I loved Kate's son, Emil, and his insisting on being a grown up. His humor caused me to laugh quite a few times. Daisy, Doc's daughter, was also a very strong character. She was quirky with lots of spunk and very much a tomboy.

The story was fast-paced, with lots of mystery, suspense, and humor. The ending wrapped everything up nicely.

Well written story

I received a free copy of this book from the author and this is my voluntary and honest review. This was a well written story and I enjoyed reading it. There were humorous parts as well as action-packed parts that made it hard to put the book down until I was finished. The main story revolved around Doc and Kate ' s love story but a lot happened in their lives before they finally got married. Chloe Carley is one of my favorite authors and this book was the best of all her books I have read. I highly recommend it.

Doc Dailey is an interesting main character in The Frontier Gambler's Lady. When a bounty is placed on his head, he goes into hiding in the Colorado mountains. Kate Dubois, a riverboat dealer, loves Doc but is also hiding out from the riverboat owner. I did not care much for the spoiled secondary character, six year old Emil. I felt sorry for Daisy, an orphan who was raised in the mountains by Doc and admired Clay, her Indian friend. This western historical book has a different storyline from most. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.

Before the first chapter was over I was hooked. With Twists and turns Chloe Carley can write a story that keeps you reading into the night. Danger all around from Old Crunchy hiding in the mountains, to gamblers hunting down Doc and Kate. My favorite character might have been six year old (going on thirty) Emil he was a hoot, a six year old flirt. But i’m hoping we get to read Daisy and Clays story next.

What a fantastic story! From the gambling boats of New Orleans to the mountains of Colorado, this tells the story of true love and devotion though halted by circumstances. While separated, both people open their hearts and lives to children who are alone and build families that endure. Realistically portrayed, with history of the the early west and a God who is always ready when one turns to Him.

Wonderful story of love and redemption

When Doc and Kate rub off together, they expect lifelong love and contentment together. What they get is ten years apart, their own children. And lives that should never blend with the other.
When they are unexpectedly reunited, they have to find a way to face the past and find a way to join their completely different lifestyles. Will they get their happily ever after?

Excellent Frontier Adventure
This is a delightful story that could easily be made into a feature movie. It is a clean story, but not entirely sweet. It is a longer book which enables the author to fully flesh out both the plot and the characters. The plot rings true and the characters are absolutely realistic. There is a vein of faith throughout the story, but it is not a strong Bible-thumper. I will be reading more of this author's work. I bought this book and this is my honest review.

I generally really enjoy this author's books. The stories she writes are very engaging and really draw you in.

Even though I felt it was a bit hard to follow at times as the plot seemed to just jump around a little. And it didn't feel like it had any smooth transitions from one scene to another.

This story of Doc and Kate is one that is worth taking the time to read.

What A Good Story

The beginning of the story started slow but didn’t take long to pick up steam. Two professional gamblers ,of the opposite sex, fall in love and eventually marry. But how they get to the conclusion is a great told story that includes romance, humor and surprised.

An enjoyable story of second chance love in an Old West setting. The storyline is fast paced with some twists and turns that kept me interested all the way through the book. The characters are all strong, independent people and I felt real empathy for them. This is a book not to be missed.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A sweet but adventurous story!

This story to me was very sweet. Both of the main characters are running from a man who believe that they stole a lot of money from him. Both of them have adopted kids although separately and not in a conventional way. The excitement comes from an animal attack, a kidnapping and well if I tell you the rest it would spoil the story for you!

Not the best read for me. I thought the story just plodded along. There were parts that were good, but they were separated by stretches I had to force myself to read. I didn’t like the characters very much. They were more like caricatures. Daisy and Emil were spoiled children.Doc and Kate were somewhat stiff and stereotypical.

Enjoyable

Really enjoyed this book. Was a fine mix of wilderness and "culture", with lots of adventure thrown in. Especially liked Daisy and the Prophet. Would've liked to have more about him (the Prophet) in the story, but undrrstand about keeping things streamlined. A really enjoyable read.

This book was interesting, but I don't think I would have called it Christian. The prophet was a really strange character who spouted Bible verses at random and evidently worked miracles. Not believable at all. The little boy needed a good spanking. There was gambling, drinking, and living together before marriage. Just not what I expected from a novel marked as Christian.
