About the author

Matkari's first work, the one-act play Wedi Manase,was presented in 1955 on All India Radio in Mumbai.His play Pahuni was presented the next year at another venue.

Matkari worked as a columnist for newspapers and magazines in the 1970s. He wrote the column Soneri Savalya n Apale Mahanagar for four years.

Matkari's 98 works thus far include 33 plays, 8 collections of his one-act plays, 18 books of his short stories, 3 novels, a book of poems for children, and 14 plays and three collections of plays for children.His works include Gudha Katha --mysteries—for adults which maintain realism.Matkari wrote a few plays in Indian languages other than Marathi.Many of Matkari's novellas have been adapted for the stage.

Excellent book

Geet short stories. Easy to follow, will keep you glued to the chair and the book. What I like is the stories are small enough to finish in one reading, easy to follow plot and will almost certainly surprise you every time. What a read. Loved it!

या संग्रहात 'अंतर्बाह्य', 'सावळी', 'शेला' अशा अनेक कथा आहेत ज्या उत्तम गूढकथा आहेत. विशेष उल्लेख करावा लागेल तो 'दुसऱ्यासारखा एखादा' आणि 'हॉंटेड हाऊस' या कथांचा. 'दुसऱ्यासारखा एखादा' ह्या कथेत मुळात अंतरमुख असलेला नायक आपल्यावर लागलेला साधेसुधेपणाचा शिक्का पुसायचा प्रयत्न करतो. पण ते शक्य होत नाही. अगदी खून करूनदेखील ! हि कथा मतकरींच्या 'असाही एक कलावंत' (कथासंग्रह : कबंध) या कथेइतकीच उत्तम जमली आहे. 'हॉंटेड हाऊस' मध्ये एक आधुनिक रिऍलिटी शो दाखवला आहे ज्यात टी आर पी साठी माणूसपण गमावलेले प्रसिद्धीपिपासू शो-रनर्स आणि त्यापायी जीव गमवावा लागणारे कॉन्टेस्टंट्स आहेत. ही खरोखर आजच्या काळातील गूढकथा म्हणावी लागेल.
हा रत्नाकर मतकरींचा अगदी अलीकडच्या काळातला कथासंग्रह आहे आणि यातल्या बऱ्याच कथा त्यांच्या शैलीला साजेशा आहेत. मात्र, 'ती गेली', 'पत्ता', 'हे सारे... पूर्वी कधीतरी' या कथा वेगळ्या पद्धतीने लिहिलेल्या आहेत. त्या गूढकथा न वाटता संभ्रमकथा वाटतात. मतकरींवर नारायण धारपांचा प्रभाव पडला कि काय असे वाटण्याइतपत या कथांची धाटणी वेगळी आहे. या कथा एखाद्या चित्रपटाची पटकथा म्हणून शोभतील, मात्र मतकरींच्या कथा वर्षानुवर्षे वाचणाऱ्यांना त्या पचनी पडणार नाहीत.
एकूण हा कथासंग्रह नक्कीच वाचनीय आहे.

Stories to think of..

I have read almost all books of Mr Matkari. And every story is always unique, unexpected and make you to think on the message, the core of story. Antarbhahya has such good stories to read on. Nice read!

Wonderful read

A compilation of few great stories. Very interesting and doesn't loos control till the end of the book. A must read.

What a cool book. Not all stories were as amazing as a select few, but I was re-reminded of how much I love Matkari's writing.
