Nora Rhodes has had a secret since she was eleven: she struggles with dermatillomania, a condition characterized by the compulsive urge to pick at her body. She covers the holes and scars with layers of thick makeup, shame, and denial in hopes of hiding her face—and herself. Her father doesn’t seem to understand the problem, and in Nora’s small town of Princess Cove, resources for help are extremely limited.

Then, the last semester of senior year, Finn Connolly moves to town from big city Vancouver. When he and Nora fall into a whirlwind relationship, everything about him makes Nora want to show her true face to the world and not let dermatillomania hold her back from life experiences. However, Nora soon uncovers Finn has secrets of his own. Will they be brave enough to be honest with one another, or will their attraction to each other remain only skin deep?

This is the second book I've read by Nicole Bea, and I think I might have liked this one better. Since it's YA, I expect there to be fast-paced romances, and boy, did this deliver.

Nora Rhodes has a secret, one that's basically ruled her life since her mother's death. She has dermatillomania-- a compulsive disorder that causes her to pick at her own skin. Her life is mostly sheltered, and hiding her habits has been easy with a little make-up thus far.

Enter Finn Connolly, the bad boy that Princess Cove never knew it needed. More importantly, he's the opposite of what Nora thought she needed. Together, the two of them will launch into a rollercoaster romance that will have you reading into the late hours of the night.

Moderate length. Quick read. The plot moves along wonderfully with very believable characters and yet another moving plot by the wonderful Bea. Her characters always seem to have just enough of a darkness in them that they're relatable. You'll find yourself cheering Nora on as she fights to become a independent from her dermatillomania.

I highly recommend this book. Definite 10/10.

Many thanks to the author for sending me a copy of SKIN! First of all, this cover. Gorgeous! SKIN tells the story of Nora, who struggles with a condition called dermatillomania. When she gets anxious, she picks at her skin. With the exception of her father, she bears the secret of her condition alone. Then new guy Finn comes along. Finn is handsome and caring and brings Nora out of her shell. But as they grow closer, it becomes harder and harder to hide her secret.

The relationship between Finn and Nora is both sweet and exciting, and I loved their banter. The writing is wonderfully descriptive, and the author does an excellent job of fleshing out the little town of Princess Cove. Most importantly, the book draws awareness to a condition that few may know about. I really connected with Nora as she struggled with the underlying triggers of her condition and opened herself up in a way she never had before. If you like emotionally satisfying stories and swoon-worthy romances, this book is for you!
