Demon Enforcers #2

Demon Forsaken

Rate this book
A Sin so great it cannot stand...

It’s not easy being the wittiest, sexiest, most devilishly handsome member of his elite team of Demon Enforcers, but Finn of the Syx has worked it his entire existence. The existence he can remember, anyway.

While his fellow demons can recall their lives as Fallen angels—and the sins that got them condemned—Finn’s memory is a blank slate. Which means his Sin was so horrible, not even the mind of a demon can handle it. Outstanding.

Now Finn is given his last chance for redemption: twenty-four hours to find an encrypted list of mortals marked for death. Unfortunately, the only person who can help him is Dana Griffin—the gritty, passionate, fiercely independent security expert who’s far more than she thinks she is, and definitely more than Finn deserves. Not to mention she’s being hunted by the worst of his kind.

Finn knows Dana is the key to his future and his past, but she’ll also be a dead woman if he can't remember how to save them both before the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve. No pressure, though.

The life you’ve lost is all that can save you when you’re a Demon Forsaken.

Demon Forsaken takes this series to an interesting place. Our knowledge of the world and it's players become much clearer in this second installment. Stark continues to deliver forces seen and unseen, revealing the depth of characters and their suffered pasts. I can see fragments of this story leading down untold story paths. Stark takes all the elements we love in paranormal and makes them her own. Finn and Dana's romance is a gradual yet passionate affair. Faced with a forgotten past, Finn's love for Dana guides him. I wanted to hang out a bit longer with Finn and Dana. I feel as if this wont be the last of their story. Fingers crossed. I look forward to reading more in the Demon Enforcer world. I can't wait for Sara's continued adventures as well.

As we learned at the end of Demon Unbound, in order for the Syx to reach redemption, all of the Sxy must be redeemed individually. This time around it’s Finn’s turn.

Finn, formerly a Fallen—although he can’t remember any of this time meaning he doesn’t know what sin he committed to become a member of the Syx—is tasked by the archangel Michael, aka the Hierophant of the Arcana Council, with obtaining a mysterious list from an antiquities collector in Ohio.

The catch: Finn only has 24 hours, and unfortunately, he’s not the only one looking for the list. Finn will need all the help he can get to meet the deadline successfully.

As a security expert, Dana Griffin has lived her life making sure others are safe. When Finn shows up looking for an artifact from her uncle’s collection, it forces Dana to face some hard truths about the life she’s led and the family that raised her.

With the 24-hour time limit, and especially with the midnight deadline, Demon Forsaken reads like a fairy-tale premise. Albeit instead of turning back into a pumpkin our “prince” will turn back into a demon, but I liked the connotation.

Even though it’s only the second book in this spin-off series, I feel like Demon Forsaken, goes the furthest, initially, in distancing itself from its parent series, despite having more cameos from the Sara Wilde series (including one from the lady herself).

I think it’s the premise of angels and demons, good and evil that stands well on its own. There are some interesting revelations that I feel could work well as another spin-off series. A whole untapped mythology is given deference. A lot of ground that could easily be covered on its own merit. But as I said, initially Demon Forsaken feels distant from the world Jenn Stark has created, but by the end she wraps everything back together seamlessly.

At its center, there’s Finn. He’s given the opportunity to do a task for the Lord and if he’s successful, at midnight, he’ll be able to ask for a boon. So what would a former Fallen, currently demon, Syx ask for? It’s not as simple an answer after the events of the day.

Even though this series is supposed to be more paranormal romance, I liked that Jenn Stark didn’t go over-the-top with the attraction between Dana and Finn. Instead the spark between them was like an awakening on both sides. There’s a good balance between the romance, Finn dealing with his unknown past, Dana dealing with revelations about her life, and the issue of finding the highly coveted list so it all flows nicely and never feels too congested.

After everything that happens and all the characters learn and go through, I really wish we’d get another book with Finn and Dana. I feel like there’s so much more there that I want explored. Demon Forsaken was an excellent read not only within the world/series it inhabits, but also on its own as well. I look forward to seeing how the series continues from here.

"Demon Forsaken" is the second installment in the Demon Enforcers series dedicated to the Syx, a sextet of demons that first appeared in "Born to Be Wild", the third full-length novel of the "Immortal Vegas" Series.

The Syx are a demon special ops team, tasked with police escaped demons and send them right back, as they alone have the power to open and close the portals to Hell. The team consist of Finn, Stefan Gregori, Ram, Hugh, and their leader Warrick. Each of the books will eventually focus on one of the Syx, and his own very special path to redemption.

“Demon Forsaken” focuses on Finn’s story, who has expended his existence honing his persona as sexiness incarnated. Finn is – as any other member of the team – a Fallen, and in his case the sin was hideous, that his mind defended itself by erasing any memory of it. But even so he has just been given a last chance at redemption by finding an encrypted list of mortals marked for death, but time is of the essence, he have to find the list and save the humans before Christmas Eve, barely a day away. He turns to Dana Griffin for help, a security expert with a secret of her own and a healthy distrust of demons. To attain redemption, Finn will have to do the impossible, remember his past.

As always Jenn Stark takes us for a ride in a perfectly crafted world with a spotless prose and the exact needed garnish of wit with generous servings of innuendo. The Demon Enforcer Series is a more mature reading than the original “Immortal Vegas” , but nevertheless nicely packed and elegantly carried out.

Jenn Stark Urban Fantasy Verse encompasses three Series: the original "Immortal Vegas", the Spin-On/Sequel "Wilde Justice" and the Spin-Off "Demon Enforcers". Every one of the three is a clear recommendation to every lover of intelligent and good crafted urban fantasy.

Whether it's Sara Wilde, The Syx, or whomever, it really doesn't matter. I will always love everything Jenn Stark writes. She has a way with words that is captivating, and I, personally, am caught completely.

Demon Forsaken is about Finn and Dana. It's hard to tell who is tougher, Dana or Finn, when the truth is, they're both incredibly strong. Strong minded, strong willed and strong hearted. So the fact that they get together at all is amazing in that they practically beat each other to death emotionally! They actually are pretty funny to watch since they both are fighting an obvious attraction.

We get a glimpse of what the Syx are up against in this tale. These aren't exactly the Connected, as the folks in Immortal Vegas are. Of course, that doesn't stop Nikki from sticking her nose in! Gotta love that Amazon! These people, these gifted Dawn's Children, are more. More in that they are connected to heaven in ways the Connected aren't. But that doesn't make them more than the Connected. Just equally important. And Finn, as avmemberj of the Syx is going to have to save Dana.

I don't want to give a bunch of spoilers, so I'm just going to say read this. The story continues to unfold with Demon Forsaken, and now I can't wait for Demon Bewitched! I'm so glad I remembered this series. I seriously can't believe I forgot about it in the first place!

As always, so Very Well Done, Jenn Stark! I couldn't be a bigger fan! Very Very Well Done Indeed!

I liked this book, but not as much as I liked the first one, or how much I liked the Sara Wilde series.
This book focuses on Finn, a member of the Syx but can't remember why he became a Demon Enforcer and Dana Griffin an independent security expert who seems to be attracting trouble wherever she goes, as well as her inhuman ability to recover speedily from an incident that happened a few months ago.
Finn is on a journey to get a 'list' from Dana's uncle and with the help of Dana, but all is not as it seems and demons are coming out from the woodwork.
This book was not the best one I have read by Jenn Stark and it was more because I just couldn't relate to the characters. I didn't find Finn as easy-going as it was suggested he would be and I just wasn't that keen on Dana at all......she never asked questions, but just seemed to accept things as they were.
There is still a lot of action in this book and previous characters turn up such as the Archangel, Sara Wilde and Nikki, but for me this book was just a little bit slow. As all the books seem to tie in with one another, you do need to read it though to find out about the 'list' as well as what other key figures are up too....but definitely not my favourite one.

Okay before I do this review I have to ask a question? Is it ok to call an angel a royal prick? I mean yeah his the Archangel and a mighty warrior but I just want to throat punch him real quick and make it hurt. . . bad. Whew I feel better but he gets worse with each book and what he does to Finn is even worse but I won't spoil that for you. While I had a hard time buying into the romance I loved all of the action. It's something about these two though and I did enjoy them together just not romantically if that makes sense. Finn is the special one of the group not knowing what he did to be cast out having no memory to speak of anything associated with it. It's an assignment he knows the outcome will impact his entire team and he must succeed alone. She has no idea about the world she is about to find herself knee deep in and has lived her life oblivious up to this point. Her world is about to spin on it's access and she is totally unprepared for what's to come. It's two days and boy don't blink cos you might miss something. I have to say this series of standalone books is action packed and full of old friends. Love Miss Nikki and all her crazy as she does a peek in along with Sara.

Took a while

Ok so this may have taken me longer than any book to finish. It I was determined to finish it. It may have to do with my backlog of books to read or I am just mule headed. So onto this review. Finn def is very charismatic he will have you smiling out for no reason. Dana is a little bit harder to get to know. I don’t know if it is because she is so hard nosed and determined to get the job done. What job you say? Whatever task she has been given. Their chemistry was not sold to me. It was not forced per se but it was not believable also. I loved seeing some of my fave characters pop up. Hint: Nikki Dawes and Sara. So Finn is tasked with a mission by that prick Archangel Michael. I am so not a fan of his. He keeps on showing me reasons why I am keeping him on “ I want to smack list”. Finn’s mission involves Dana and from there about 2 days of craziness ensues. So will I re-read? Probably not. Do I recommend? Yes only because it is in a series for Syx and I actually like those guys and want them to have their HEA moment. This story stands on its own. Happy reading.

Another great book from Jenn Stark, she never fails to disappoint! This is the second Demon Enforcers book in the series. It centres around Finn and Dana and takes place over a 24 hour period. The format is well thought out and provides deeper insight into both the main character's thoughts and feelings. It really moves with pace and is impossible to put down. There is a lot packed in and I genuinely needed to find out what happened next. There is more focus on the characters and their stories in this book, Dana's is equally important to Finn's and adds depth. There are some cool cameo appearances from characters in the Immortal Series (another great series to read if you haven't already). I liked how the storyline wasn't predictable and took you on a fast, action packed tale with twist and turns throughout. Although there is less focus on romance in this book, its still hot! I urge you to pick up a copy, you won't be disappointed.

This story will keep you guessing. Finn knows Dana can be the key to him getting everything he has ever wanted. However, he finds himself conflicted about if it is still the future he wants. Dana is just learning the truth that has been kept from her and the one person she trusts is Finn.

It is a very well written story that is fast paced and full of action and a great romance as well. It keeps you guessing and you don't know who or what to trust. They both want to do the right thing and have a lot of lives at stake with their choices. The relationship between them is not rushed by grows with the respect and trust that builds.

I like that fans of the previous series get some treats too in terms of the connection to other characters.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Demon Forsaken: Demon Enforcers, is the second book in the Demon Enforcers series, which tells the tale of the Syx, fallen angels who need to redeem themselves. This book gives us a glimpse into the life of Finn, and of Dana, a human with more than meets the eye talents.

I can't say enough good about this book, other than it's filled with lots of hot stuff. There is action happening all over the place- adventure, romance, mystery. There are lots of my favorite cross over characters and cameos from Jenn's other series, Immortal Vegas. There is an amazing and caring hero, and a strong and smart heroine. All of this combines together in a smoothly written storyline in a book that you won't want to put down.

If you enjoy any of the above- action, adventure, romance, urban fantasy, you'll love this book

I think I actually like this book better than the last. I like Finn and his story a bit better than Warrick's. The action is non stop as usual with most everything happening in a night. We started wondering about what Finn's story was in the first book. Why did he fall to earth and what was his sin to become a demon? This finally explains it and shows that Arch Angels can be jerks too. We learn so much more about the world and the angels and demons in it in this one. I could not put this one down and read far into the night until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. Count on loving this book as well as falling in love with Dana (think wonder woman, but not totally human) and Finn.

Demon Forsaken, the second book in the Demon Enforcers Series, is definitely better than the first, Demon Unbound. This book kept me sitting on the edge of my seat, constantly winding up the tension, and at one point, I couldn't help it, I cried. This book can be hard-hitting, partly because of the Christian concepts. But pushing this aside, this is an AMAZING story. It is well told, in anyone's language. I can't fault the storytelling. More

Unsettling

For some reason I was not as enthralled with this book as I have been with all of Jenn Stark’s other books. Unlike other books that she has written, this one stands alone, it does not build on the first book in the series. I also did not feel the underlying joy and usual humor that usually carries a wonderful story. I found myself closing the book and walking away in frustration, yet I was inexorably drawn back to the story.

This was a very good addition to Ms Stark’s gift to us readers, not great, but very good. I do heartily recommend it.

Second chances is what this series is about. Michael, the archangel, is going to give Finn a second . All about redemption but Finn doesn’t remember why he became a demon. Well Finn is going to meet Dana and learn about Dana, her family and why he became a demon. You will discover a main character has a secret in his past which will come to light and hopefully karma will bite him in the ass! I love this book and highly recommend this book and the series!

Finn has no memory of why he has fallen and is a demon enforcer. His chance at redemption hinders on getting a list of people who are hunted by demons. Dana is a security expert. When Finn's job intertwines with her and strange artifacts she has been sent to retrieve, demons come out of the woodwork. A life of lies, millenia of servitude, betrayal, action, and gut wrenching "feels" . Religious end of the world overtones, angels and demons.

I absolutely loved Warrick and Maria’s story in Demon Unbound. I was delighted to discover that I loved Finn and Dana in Demon Forsaken even more. This series just keeps getting better and better – mystery, sensuality, amazing characters and superb writing. And I LOOOOOOVE all the glimpses of the crew from the Immortal Vegas series. Buy it. You’ll love it.

Hope Reigns

This read was action from start to finish. Good raging battles over evil. The heroine Dana was true to herself within the boundaries of a life of half truths. I like the fact of pairings of equal partners fighting along side of each other to defeat the destroyer of humanity as we know it. Waiting for the next instalment 😊
