Reed Bradford never should have made that promise.
He’d barely survived the first time around, but now she was back, his best friend’s little sister, his one-time neighbor, and the woman that he never should have promised to protect. He never should have done a lot of things, like cross that line, but once he did…
There was no turning back.
Joey Lawson always had a plan, but unfortunately, mostly for her, sometimes those plans backfired. On her. This time would be no different. After the unfortunate incident that she felt was better not to think about, she found herself doing the one thing that she’d never survive.
New York Times Bestselling author, R.L. Mathewson was born in Massachusetts. She’s known for her humor, quick wit and ability to write relatable characters. She currently has several paranormal and contemporary romance series published including the Neighbor from Hell series.
Growing up, R.L. Mathewson was a painfully shy bookworm. After high school she attended college, worked as a bellhop, fast food cook, and a museum worker until she decided to take an EMT course. Working as an EMT helped her get over her shyness as well as left her with some fond memories and some rather disturbing ones that from time to time show up in one of her books.
Today, R.L. Mathewson is the single mother of two children that keep her on her toes. She has a bit of a romance novel addiction as well as a major hot chocolate addiction and on a perfect day, she combines the two.
In 2019/2020, R.L. Mathewson will be publishing Devastated, the first Anger Management novel, Tall, Dark & Furious, the 6th installment to the Pyte/Sentinel series, Irresistible, the long anticipated novel for the Neighbor from Hell Series as well as many more books throughout the year, paranormals, contemporaries, and YAs.
Reed Bradford's promise to look out for Joey Lawson is going to kill him or send him to the brink of insantity. She's killing him.
Joey Lawson, a published professor, teach's at one of the top Universities in the country and has two Ph d's. To says she's smart is an understatement. But those smarts do not keep her out of trouble. Or does her mouth.
Back home on a sabbatical not one that she wanted she has to decide what she's going to do for the next year of her life. Joey Lawson bored is not a good thing for those around her.
Now stuck staying with Reed Bradford her brothers best friend it's going to be hard to not kill him or jump him.
A epically funny read that had me in stitches. The Bradford's are a class act and I can't get enough of them.
The continuity of the story was perfect. The secondary character's "aka" Trevor and Jason Bradford had me laughing. These two are absolute gold.
This series is one of the best, funniest heartwarming series I’ve read. From the moment one of her books lands on my kindle I have to start it! I get pulled right in from the first page & cant bring myself to put it down. Each and every couple I read about, I fall in love with.
R.L Mathewson, I love your mind, your heart & your fabulous way to put that together with beautiful words & a heartwarming laugh out loud story.
Well, it’s safe to say this will be last book from this author. What I found cute and funny years before, now I found annoying. The heroine was a bit a pathetic if you ask me. Now this is only my opinion on this book. Don’t let it stop you from reading it. Hero wanting to spank her during the whole book got old really fast after the second time he mentioned it. Heroine would mumbled and grumbled all the time. And never once they fed the poor kitty! They kept him locked in the damn f*cking bathroom.
Another Bradford another book boyfriend Reed Bradford is sexy as hell I loved every minute of the book Joey is funny and accident prone in a adorable way with the mix of other Bradford’s we all love Thank you R.L for an amazing book ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Joey Larson moved away from home years ago, now she is back after an unfortunate incident has put her on sabbatical. Reed Bradford made a promise to Joey's Grandmother and his best friend to always protect Joey. However, the last time he saw Joey he also made a promise to give her the spanking she deserves, now she is back. The disaster known as Joey though did not have a well thought out plan and now is living with Reed. Reed vacillates from wanting to throttle her and wanting to wrap his arms around her, which path will win out?
Another wonderful story from R.L. Mathewson. Loved this one and thought Joey and Reed were delightful. Reed was an unexpected surprise, he was different then I thought and I liked that his brother lived with him. I am anxious for what is next in this series.
Another fantastic addition to the Neighbour From Hell series by R. L. Mathewson. Meet Reed Bradford (A Bradford cousin) and Joey Lawson, his childhood neighbour from hell. She’s back, after 12 free years of peace and no stress, she is back causing Reed all sorts of stress. However all all the shenanigans happen, love emerges in a way only a Bradford can do. Great story, great main characters and exciting side characters tha5 make you hope for their own book. Some cameo appearances from previous Bradfords make an appearance which makes you smile even wider. Loved this couple!
Seriously. I have rarely been so confused throughout a book. OTT situations that were exacerbated by really weak dialogue. For the heroine's genius, she barely utters full sentences whenever the hero addresses her. And her clumsiness was so so OTT!!! Did I say OTT already?!
I had to stop all the time to figure out where they were. Was this just me? Or was this a clusterfuck? Granted there were some funny situations, but all in all, this book required a bottle of tylenol and a load of patience for me to get through.
What happened to explaining what she did to the hero, via YouTube to make him hate her so? Did I miss that? Or did I fubble through it not understanding it? The awkward and silly sleeping situation? Then the character Jen, who was so much like the heroine herself, yet younger, seemed unoriginal. Lots of seemingly unfinished quips about the past. And the kitten? Poor thing left in a bathroom?
I loved the first three of these. I think the ride ends here for me.
Finished this one in one set. Even tho I was so not going to stay up.
The Bradfors are one of my all time fav families.
Reed. Is well an assholes which is a Bradford man trade. haha. Hot as them all .. A little bit to much inlove with food. But he is a teacher/ Principal of a highschool. He has some what of a endless pastions for insanity it seems. He is a great charector. Seems to think he knows all about what he feels for Joey. Just annoyins. As most of the Bradfords he has an ego. But it's more suddle I think. I think he is one of my favs of the Bradfords.
Joey is a disaster and both in her life it seems since she never means to really do anything. Things just happen. She is behound smart. But clumsy as they come. Not even sure how she is still alive. To begin with it was thanks to her brother (Jackson) and Reed. She comes back home to a house she lived with her brother and grandfather in as a child. Taht does not really go as planned so she ends up with Reed and his brother Matt ( love him! he is suchs a Bradford it aint funny! Can not wait on his book) I love Joey she has come one of my fav, charectors in the world R.L. has made.
Reed and Joey as a couple is insane. Think that is the right word. They are beautiful togetherm crazy and funny. The work and the twist that a few people had already worked out is awesome!
And what most be said.. The side charectors in this book are behound awesome! I loved all of them. And the end made me want the next book right away!
Loved Reed and Joey's story. Can not wait for Matt's book. And hopefully one for Jackson too. R.L. Mathewson just keeps getting better and petter. Love her books.
No cliffhanger Standalone though part of a much larger series Told from both POVs Editing issues throughout but nothing that ruins the story Ends at 91%
This series and this author are by far my favorite! Anytime I see one of these books is coming out I immediately pre-order it. I have no idea how someone can be this funny. Each book in this series has been down right hysterical.
Reed is a principal at the local school. Joey is his old neighbor. On the surface they hate each other but Reed made a promise to Joey’s grandparents that he would always look out for her, even when he didn’t want to.
She comes back to their neighborhood for a sabbatical and Reed falls right back into the habit of protecting her. Sparks fly and as they say the rest is history.
Insert a whole lot of steamy moments and some hysterical banter and you have one of my favorite stories so far this year.
I've waited for what feels like forever for a new nfh book and yes it was well worth the wait!!! Reed and Joey's story was so so good and I love the outrageous hate to love relationship they have ! and it was great to see new characters and old ones being brought into book as well!
Finally the next book in the Neighbours From Hell series and it is just what you’d expect from R.L. Mathewson. It is funny, if slightly ridiculous at times but that’s part of the charm, and it lives up to the rest of the series with neighbours that fight all the time. I will say that while the food obsession was there, it wasn’t a huge feature but was apparent in a more subtle way then R.L usually approaches the Bradford’s obsession. I have all these questions know though, will Jackson get a book, will Julie and Aaron get stories and will we see Jen again? And it has made me impatient for more books in this series and any others R.L. may decide to write for us. If you are new to this series you could read this book with no problems but I would start at the beginning and read them in order because you will end up reading them all anyway.
I loved the early books in this series, but somewhere along the way, the characters stopped being people and became caricatures. I also have a problem with a delinquent high schooler being played for laughs, and a high functioning autistic boy (assuming, as he's in class with the rest of the students) being allowed to skip class and play Minecraft on a tablet while everyone else does schoolwork. Also the blatant favoritism wouldn't fly in a real school. The author based Shawn off of her son, but idk what kind of educators would just change an autistic student's schedule the morning of without at least mentioning it to the parents or even asking the kid. DNF
I love R.L. Mathewson’s quirky characters and the way she writes just keeps you smiling from page one! Reed is a principle with his hands full with a couple students that’ll have you shaking your head. Joey and a brilliant girl with 2 PhD’s and a way of finding herself in situations seems to be saying I’m sorry a lot. When one situation finds her on a sabbatical not of her choosing she goes home to the house she grew up in next door to the boy who vowed to keep her safe. I laughed and cheered for the understood and misfits that’ll melt your heart!
I absolutely love RL Mathewson’s newest addition to her NFH series. As always I laughed hysterically while my nerdy heart melted at HEA these two have. Also wanted to smack Matt upside the head more then once and learn more about Julie, Jackson and definitely cannot wait to see why Garret is getting Pretties thrown at him!! Damn it who throws books at people(they might get hurt, the pretties that is) lol.
I love this series! The Bradfords and their friends are great entertainment! I absolutely enjoyed this lasted installment! I loved Reed and Joey! I loved their banter and interaction with each other! The secondary characters were highly enjoyable! Can’t wait for the next one!
As much as I love RL’s work, this book was a disjointed mess to me. I couldn’t connect with anyone and wasn’t sure at times who was even talking. Then with words or phrases being used as filler instead of carrying a scene. A professional editor could have made this book work? Maybe next time.
Joey is two PHD’s and is a professor at a college. When she is made to take a sabbatical, she returns to her hometown and the house her grandfather bought but never had time to remodel. Reed has lived next door to Joey since her and her brother came to live with their grandparents after their mom was killed. Reed is the principal of their old school and made a promise to Joey’s grandmother to look after her. But he doesn’t think his best friend and Joey’s brother would like the thoughts his having about his baby sister. The longer Reed and Joey are together, the harder they fall for each other. So freaking funny and very steamy. Enemies become lovers. There were a couple of grammatical mistakes that I had to reread the line several times to understand what was being said. I loves these books because you can expect a hilarious story that will crack you up. * Received a coupon and got it from Smashwords and voluntarily read and reviewed it. *
I was SO HAPPY to get the latest Neighbors from Hell book! I’ve missed them so much! This book is so funny, the humor so droll. It really, really is. The back and forth between the characters is so cute and funny. With all the glaring and squinty eyes, you still feel the affection between them. I highly recommend this book. It’s a funny, warm, feel good story to curl up with to block the world away. It’s like your favorite soft sweater that is like a warm hug kinda book.
Reed tends to make some strong arguments: “Why are you holding my ***?” she couldn’t help but ask when she felt a large hand cup her ***. “For safety,” Reed said, even as he cleared his throat and shifted his grip back to her pants. Joey likes to observe things, “not that I’m aware of,” she said, absently noting that he had a really nice ***. She was a sucker for a nice ***..." I loved this book, I fell in love with Joey and Reed, this series is just full of all sorts of humor.
They just keep getting better and better. I loved this story and all the new characters. Jen and Shawn are amazing new additions to all the amazing characters that R. L. brings to life in every one of her books. The stories made my laugh out loud cause those around me to notice. Can't wait to read the next one.
I absolutely loved this book! RL Mathewson never disappoints me when reading about the Bradford family! RL Mathewson will have you laughing out loud and losing your heart to the Bradford's! I can't wait for the next book!
Oh man oh man oh man... was I ever joyful to read this!! It felt 'different' to the rest of the NFH series... but that is absolutely fine.
Loved loved loved so very much. RLM's writing is like a very welcome old friend waiting to wrap you up in a super soft cuddle with a plate of warm gooey brownies and a glass of milk. And I don't even care how sappy that sounds -it's true. Sometimes a marshmallow read is what is truly needed and wanted.
I am a great fan of R.L Mathewson's books, especially the Neighbors from Hell series. This book was funny and entertaining, the characters are loveable and relatable. I read it in 1 day and makes me want to reread the other books in the series as I have not had my fix yet.
I loved this book so much! It's one of my favorites from RL. Joey is quirky and nerdy and I just love her. Reed is brooding but caring. I just love Shawn so much! He reminds me of my own son. (And he got away with anything at school. He did his work and did whatever he wanted and all of his classmates understood and had no problem with that.) I didn’t see anywhere where this said non-fiction. I love this ridiculous and sometimes even unrealistic. That’s why I read. Can’t wait for more from this author!
I found NFH by accident and am so grateful I did. When I bought The Promise I was like ok it won’t be better than the last one and I was wrong. The complexity of Reed’s feelings for Joey with the amazing banter captured my attention from page 1.
Right now, I am halfway through The Promise. It's going to end up being the 10th Neighbor from Hell Novel. The story takes place in Bridgewater, MA where the Bradford family first came to America. This story is about Reed Bradford and his best friend's pain in the ass sister, Joey Lawson, which brings up our next question...
Who the hell is Reed Bradford?
Well, I'm glad you asked.
Reed Bradford is Mark's son. You met him briefly in Playing for Keeps. He was one of Jason's uncles who was taking immense joy out of tormenting Jason about Haley. Mark is married to Emily. They have two sons, Reed, the oldest who took over the family's house, and Matt, the younger pain in the ass brother who took over the Bradford family business, Bradford Furniture.
This book lives up to the series its funny it's romantic and very addictive. If you haven't read the other books you can read it as a standalone. R.lmatthewson has away and style of writing that has you laughing out loud and wanting to savour every page. She takes you right into the story. I absolutely loved all the characters especially shawn and joey they were quirky and loveable characters. Reed is the alpha male typical Bradford of the series but caring and romantic . If you want a funny romantic novel with special characters this is the book for you.
I usually love all the books from the Neighbor From Hell series since they're so funny, but this one didn't seem to flow as far as stories go. It felt a little confusing to read. I really was unsure about the whole Shawn and Jen thing.
