Emma Sterner-Radley

Emma Sterner-Radley spent far too much time hopping from subject to subject at university, back in her native country of Sweden. One day, she finally emerged with a degree in Library and Information Science. She thought libraries was her thing, because she wanted to work with books, and being an author was just an impossible dream, right? Wrong. She's now a writer and a publisher. (But still a librarian at heart, too.)

She lives with her wife and two cats in England. There is no point in saying which city, as they move about once a year. She spends her free time writing, reading, daydreaming, working out, and watching whichever television show has the most lesbian subtext at the time.

Her tastes in most things usually lean towards the quirky and she loves genres like urban fantasy, magic realism, and steampunk.

Emma is also a hopeless sap for any small chubby creature with tiny legs, and can often be found making heart-eyes at things like guinea pigs, wombats, marmots, and human toddlers.

3.25 Stars. This was a very sweet romantic comedy. I’m glad Mrs. And Mrs. Radley have most of their books on Kindle Unlimited. While I may not love all of their stories, you know you will get a good quality KU book from them. This was a nice sweet romance that I think most romance fans will enjoy; it just wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.

Kit has recently moved to a small British island. It is not easy being one of the few lesbians on the whole island but Kit is enjoying her new life. Her friendship with the affluent and beautiful Laura is one of the main highlights of her day. When Laura tells her she is secretly engaged to a man from a rival family (think Romeo and Juliet) Kit decides to help Laura be happy. Can the two of them form a plan to get Laura closer to marriage? And what will happen to Kit when she can’t help but wish Laura’s feelings were actually for her?

As I mentioned above, this book is a romantic comedy. For whatever reasons, I have a lot of trouble with rom-com books. I find most of the time I just don’t click with the humor in humor books. While I know I smiled a few times reading this, I never actually laughed out loud. It’s not a Radley writing thing, it’s more of a Lex thing and why I don’t read too many rom-coms. Due to my rom-com issues, my guess is others will like this book more than I did. The early ratings/reviews are very high, so keep that in mind if you are considering this.

This book was very sweet and pleasant; it just didn’t have enough going on for me. The conflict to drive the story was all pretty subdued. There just isn’t much that the characters have to overcome. I wasn’t bored, but I was close to it. I found the secondary characters on the island to not be as charming as I was hoping. In other lesfic romances, on islands, the community is always like a third main character. I wanted to really love the setting but it just ended up okay for me.

This book wasn’t really for me but I still think rom-com fans will probably enjoy this. I’m just not the best judge when it comes to these kinds of books. If you are a Kindle Unlimited member and or a rom-com fan, you might want to give this a try.

An adorable humourous kindle unlimited lesbian romance/small town read I highly recommend. If you liked HP Munro's Mutual Benefits I feel like you would enjoy this!

Katherine 'Kit' Sorel (30) is new to Greengage Island, of Britain - a small community of mostly retirees and plenty of quirky antics. She's the new assistant librarian. She soon becomes friendly with Greengage royalty in Little Laura Howard (30) who is seen as a 'first daughter' of the island. Her family owns Howard Hall, and lots of orchards along with a fruit, jam and drinks business that she works hard at, and wants to take over and run completely one day.
She's a sweetheart in the community and very well liked, but unfortunately, when it comes to her extended family (who own the farm and business) they tend to be awful toward her.

Kit is falling for Laura during their friendship, not to mention Laura's friends are also sure that Laura herself isn't as straight as she pretends. Laura tries her best to be 'perfect' but she soon realizes her own happiness needs to come first. But not before a few outrageous antics unfurl.

But it's all part of the fun in this book, Laura and Kit getting to know eachother, trying to deny their attraction, the meddlesome community behind them, trying to egg them on - and despite their fears of homophobia, the community actually end up being entirely too interested in their relationships, and butting in to meddle during their first ever date.

It's all very charming and amusing, and you can't help but beam at the scenarios and sweetness.

There's a short follow-up also on kindle, and then another full book after that, so I'll be sure to be reading them next, and hope you might too! If you like zany small British communities with whacky antics and adorable romance, and humorous banter - look no further!

The setting of the story is on an Island of Greengage. There is a family feud between the Stevensons and Howards, there is a forbidden romance between the Stevensons and the Howards but here comes the interesting plot twist. Instead of having both hs from the feuding family in the forbidden romance, it is actually between one of the h and a guy. Please don't worry, the guy is exactly like Chris Hemsworth/Kevin/The Ghostbusters but C.H. is wayyyy better looking and just a few scenes of him in the story and nothing intimate.

How does the other h get involved? Well, Katherine 'Kit' Sorel moves to the Island and works as a librarian. Besides being a book addict, Kit has several fantastic qualities in her and one of them is being a fixer of problems. She and Laura Howard are casual friends at first although the seeds of interest are already in the polybag for Kit. Kit agrees to help Laura to solve her romantic problems and through that, they begin to spend more time together. Another plot twist takes place, after 6O-7O%, and Laura Howard embrace her gayness, she and Kit are a couple.

I absolutely love stories with island settings, my mom was an Islander and I get the island fixation from her. There are all sorts of characters in this story, each one has their own uniqueness, they will either make you want to stay or hijack the first ferry and return to the mainland. A pleasant read, missing just a bit of the wow factors, otherwise it would have been a five.

Nice and sweet. The story’s good, the characters interesting and quirky but the humor didn’t work for me (humor is not easy for me, so not the author’s fault).

This is a charming story about a island of people presser in their ways. Kit is an outsider from London and although they’re cautious of her she is accepted. She forms a friendship with Laura Greengages sweetheart. While trying to help Laura with her love life she falls for her. The story is sweet and funny. The narrator Wendy Wolfson gave Laura the sexiest voice it’s breathy and so lovely. I have the next two audiobooks and can’t wait to start them.

I think I have a bit of a crush on one of the characters in this book and it's neither of the main characters. Anyway, I'll keep that info to myself, but if that character could become a reality and then find their way to me, that'd be great!

I told Emma not too long ago that I can see how much work she's put into this book and I want to tell you too. It shows in the details, in the dialogue and just the all-round everything. I'm bad at words, sue me.

I like how from page one it's very clear what this story is going to be and yet I found myself time and again wondering if maybe I was wrong, if someone else would show up and steal Kit's heart. I'm glad I was right... and wrong at the same time :)

Anyway, I'll try to give you some plot and not spoilers.

Kit Sorel is a fairly new resident on an island named Greengage. (BTW the descriptions of Greengage makes me want to move there.) There's somewhat of a rivalry happening on this island though and while Kit tries her hardest not to be, she finds herself right smack dab in the middle of it and yet... she isn't. The reason she is might have something to do with Laura (if you don't love Laura I will fight you). Laura is funny, cute, and oh so straight. Right? Right.

There's so much humor in this book, I don't even know where to begin describing it. I wish this movie would be a rom-com on TV because it'd be hilarious. Emma's fantasy went to town with this book and I'm here for it. Think kitten races, wheelbarrows and some May-December romance I never knew I really never wanted :P

Also, Kit's best friend is Aimee. Aimee is a bit of a mess and she might as well have been me looking in the mirror. I like how Emma doesn't have Kit resolve all of her problems, rather she helps her figure stuff out and it just speaks to the amazing person Kit is.

Emma, you wrote another brilliant book. You really did. I hope that you're proud of your work because I sure as hell am.

And to you, reading reviews wondering whether you should read this book... You should. Right now. Chop chop.

Listened to this book. Didn’t fancy the narrator but got used to her very slow use of voice when giving life to Laura.

It was a very slow book, mediocre storyline. The characters were likable and well build. There is romance in this book and as a reader you’ll see it coming from miles away. Only it takes a long time before Kit and Laura get there. When they got there I just didn’t feel it.

Unfortunately I didn’t connect with this book on an emotional level. Also the storyline just couldn’t keep my attention. Boring may be a harsh term, but that’s how I feel... Because I always want to know how it finishes, I listened until the end.

A fun book that I enjoyed set on one of the islands off the coast of England. The lead character, Katherine “Kit” Sorel, is on the island because it was the only place she could find to continue her career as a librarian.

The other main character, Laura, is on the island because her family is one of the two richest families on the island and Laura runs the family business. People watch and react to Laura as if she was Princess Laura (or Lady Laura), but her family lacks titles.

Kit and Laura becomes friends. Kit finds Laura attractive. Laura finds the male heir of the other richest family to be attractive. And they are dating - Laura and that man. Except she has to hide it because the two families are like the Montague's and Capulet's in Romeo and Juliet (or like the Hatfield's and McCoy's, which I have a vague idea was referenced in this book, but it has been a while).

Grandma has learned of Laura's attraction and bans her from seeing the man again. Kit mentions how Laura can try to fix the situation, and actively works to make that relationship work despite her own desires for Laura.

Stuff happens. It comes out that Laura actually dated another woman when she was 19 (18?), so it becomes unclear if Kit's keeping away from her because 'Laura is straight' is still the smart play. Other stuff happens. Etc.

There is a kitten race.

A London gal moves to an island that is full of eccentric locals. Her desire to help others results in plotting to help the island sweetheart. The dilemma is that the quirky woman's fiance is from a rivaling farm and her aunt doesn't approve of the relationship. They embark on a plan to change that. But the Londoner finds herself developing a bit of a crush.

I really liked all of the characters in the book that supported the eccentric atmosphere of the island. The interactions between the two lead characters were sweet and had nicely charged undercurrents of affection throughout.

My only problem with this one was the use of 'Shut Up' several times in the dialogue. Seemed a bit immature for the ages of the characters. Also, I don't really like it when people say that whether playful or not.

Overall, this was a fun and light read.

Can I give it more than 5 stars?

I absolutely loved this hilarious romance from Emma Sterner Radley. Kit is a funny, quirky, adorable character who I absolutely loved (and she reminded me most fondly of someone AMAZING!). Her relationship in this book with her friends, landlord and Laura were just great.

Emma has a real winner of a book here that I just can’t recommend enough. Reading Greengage Plots will do nothing if put you in a good mood and brighten up any day. The chapters are packed with humour and fun, and the titles are even better. In fact, this book is worth reading for the chapter titles alone.

I really am such a fan of Emma’s and the work she produces just gets better and better. I can say this is one of my most favourite books and I will treasure it. It’s so very special and you can tell it has had the personal touch which just brings such magic and meaning to the story.

I honestly cannot recommend a better book! It will give you the giggles, have your rooting for Kit, and falling in love with Greengage! (It will also leave you curious about Greengages and desperately wanting to try some for yourself!)

A page turner and amazing read, do not miss out on reading this book! You won’t regret it!!!

This is a brilliant piece of fiction, centered around a small community on an island and two women who live on it. The plot is a brilliant and funny romp through the varied lives and personalities that touch Kit Sorel, the main character. The characters are wonderfully real, funny, quirky and so memorable. Even Petunia. I had no trouble at all picturing the island and it's important places in my mind as I read this. Emma Sterner-Radley is a wonderfully talented author!
I had a hard time not laughing aloud while reading this in the wee hours of the morning, so be warned. Even my partner, who doesn't usually get British humor thought the book was hilarious.

Read this, but don't say I didn't warn you if you find yourself laughing out loud.

This was a wonderful light read romance with an endearing cast of characters. I enjoyed the little bit of zaniness of the town, the two main characters and their nice slow burn. But I really loved the kitten races. I live in a small town and maybe that is something I can suggest. What a hoot. The petty rivalry between the two families, especially as a backdrop and not part of the love story was brilliant. If you are looking for a fun book with a few chuckles and a charming love story, look no further. You won't be disappointed in this book.

I couldn’t get enough of Kit, Aimee, Laura and the other lovely residents of Greengage! There were times when I couldn’t stop the sudden and very loud laughter that would just burst out of my mouth every time I got to the witty banter between Kit and Aimee. The vivid descriptions of Greengage are so beautiful and I’m bemoaning the fact that I am not on a vacation because this story woke up my sleeping wanderlust monster! I just loved every word of this quirky and entertaining story. I hope there will be a sequel on the horizon so I’ll keep my fingers crossed and pray that I’ll get to read more about these wonderful characters.

This was a well written story but way too campy for me. It made the story a lot less interesting for me since I'm not a fan of that. And one of the main characters, Laura, was just too silly and naive for me to stomach.

Slow burn comedy

This story is frequently "can't catch my breath" funny, with it's quirky cast of characters on a tiny island off the coast of Britain. Kit, having fairly recently ended a long-term, fairly toxic sounding relationship, has just moved to the island to work at the local library. She quickly strikes up a friendship with one of the prominent locals, Laura Howard, who was part of the group who brought her a "welcome basket" when she first moved in. Laura is just about everything Kit would want in a woman with one exception: she's straight... or is she? As the story goes on, Kit starts to get hints that Laura might not be quite as straight as she seems, even while she uses her wiles to help Laura and her long time secret boyfriend try to overcome a longstanding family feud in order to be together in the open at last. What a shame that Kit keeps falling harder for Laura...

This is a madcap, slow burn romantic comedy, with enough quirky characters and outrageous circumstances to overflow a wheelbarrow and a pair of leading ladies with chemistry that is as sweet as jam on scones. Highly recommended!

I am still laughing. I recommend this book because the dialogue alone is worth the read! Crisp, clean, very British with just the right amount of tension between characters and the prevailing landscape.
I saw the locations as I was reading through the eyes of the characters.
Sterner-Radley can really write the tongue in cheek scene with great aplomb.
LOVED IT!

So very entertaining and hilarious!
I read this fun and funny book in a day; it's a page turner and held my interest all the way thru. The story is light with some drama but nothing heavy compared to parts of the author's Tinderbox stories, for example. It's a perfect beach or summer read, for when you feel the urge to escape to a place where the locals are odd and meddling and endearing or some combination of all three. There is plenty of humor from the chapter titles to the dialogue and the antics of the characters so be sure to avoid having food or beverages in your mouth while reading; I laughed out loud a lot reading this book.

Sterner-Radley has a knack for encapsulating a character in one line of dialogue or a sentence of narration, vividly and often hilariously so; the characters are distinct and have their quirks particularly those that live on the island although they may read as totally normal depending on where you live in the world. There isn't much British slang and those not versed in it can likely decipher its meaning based on the context where it's used, won't need to resort to a dictionary or google to figure it out.

I won't be surprised if there is a sequel to this book; the characters have so much left untold in them even though all plot threads are tied up by the end. The characters are just too good to not follow up with or follow around a little longer to see what mishaps and shenanigans come their way. I hope there is more to come and that a series stems from this book because I'd love to read more of their hilarious conversations (Kit and Aimee especially) and wacky goings on (kitten races and ages old family feuds) in the future. I always look forward to reading more by Emma Sterner-Radley and keep hope alive that in addition to her other stories that more of her fan fiction is eventually converted for publication. May this author never run out of stories to tell and opportunities to publish them for mass enjoyment!

Kit Sorel is new to the island of Greengage. The island is a bit different from what she’s used to: here kittens can race, fruit can be sexy, wheelbarrows can be menacing, straight women might not be so straight after all, the owls are not what they… oh wait, that was another place! Anyway, when Kit tries to use her talents for plotting to help a friend, she soon discovers that on this island anything can happen.

Kit tries to stay diplomatic and calm among the quirky locals, feuding families included, all the while working at the local library and not being interested in love or anything like that at all.

Greengage Plots has a whole bunch of funny characters, great lines and dialogue that wouldn’t be out of place in a 40’s screwball comedy (if it was made in Britain), hilarious and sweet moments. Especially the budding romance is a lovely mixture of cheesy and cute - sort of like in Tinderbox Tales, where tropes are simultaneously put to good use and made fun of.

Really loved this story - I’m smiling even as I’m typing up this review - and will definitely recommend it to anyone who’s willing to listen (and even if they aren’t).

I wouldn’t mind reading more about the island of Greengage and its inhabitants, especially the co-owners of Pub 42!

Emma Sterner-Radley has created a gem (or should I say a plum) of a story in Greengage Plots. The main character Kit has moved to the Island of Greengage off the coast of England to work in the library on this island of about six thousand people. What she finds here is friendship, laughter, craziness, and most importantly love. The author is a genius at creating memorable places and people. I generally don't enjoy British humor, but I laughed and giggled my way through most of this book. I urge everyone to grab a copy of this book. You will not be disappointed.

I read the blurb for this book and thought it looked like fun. Unfortunately the first half was a bit disappointing. Laura’s problems with her aunt and her boyfriend Dylan were not in the slightest bit interesting, and it didn’t help that Laura was clueless and Dylan a moron. Also it was just so slow, OK there were amusing little things happening on the Island, but the main story just dragged.
Fortunately around halfway it started to improve and became quite a nice and amusing romance.

Now I can’t tell you why, but I really enjoyed this book. Not a great deal happened, and that usually results in two or three stars at a push. But, no, I loved it! It made me laugh, want to punch Dylan repeatedly in the nose, see a kitten race and immediately want to go and live on Greengage. The narration by Wendy Wolfson was excellent, she really brought the book to life.

This book is a total keeper. I loved it. It was adorable, funny, and the characters were quirky and eccentric on the little island of Greengage. The anecdotes of certain villagers throughout the book were endearing and humorous. Loved Kit and Laura's flirty chemistry early on. It was precious. And everyone getting into their business was a riot. This was a fun light read and expect to be adding this to my physical shelves very soon. Loved it!

It started ok but then really started dragging and did some things I‘m not fond of, like going heavy on internal commentary. Probably meant to be funny but annoying to me.

And since I don‘t often bother with blurbs I was kind of disappointed it wasn’t about allotments. So there’s that.

This book came in handy after reading 2 very books ful of angst and it was a light, funny and wonderful reading, just what my little gay heart need it.

I liked Kit from the ver start, she was funny and caring of her friend and son and when she starter plotting I was like "what in the world is Laura seeing on that guy?" but okay, I understood and when Kit left for London, it was like reading a completly different book (kind of).

The title of the chapters are funny, and the pizza rolls one made me laugh so hard my wife was asking me if I was okay.

Can't go wrong with a book from Emma Sterner-Radley and apparently I'm into british settings now even though sometimes I can't understand some words and have to google it.

Read it, you can't go wrong with a rom-com.
