After the school fair ends and summer begins, Team Enfield starts special training to prepare for the five-against-five Gryps. Ayato and his friends are a favorite in the competition, but Galaxy is about to make its move...
One of the weaker books in the series thus far. Sure, the Gryps finally starts... but does it? I vaguely recall some brief mention of a couple of battles. Sure, the Gryps hasn't finished so we'll see more in the next volume, but the Phoenix Fest spanned several volumes and at this rate Gryps will be done in the next one. Even so, so much of this one just felt forgettable. Maybe there is something more interesting about Rusalka, but if there is I am missing it. I find them to be wholly uninteresting and since so much of this book was about them... it was dull for me. And the other focus Saya Sasamiya -- another character I have next to no interest in. So for me... this volume just didn't cut the mustard.
Verdict: If you're an Asterisk fan, read it to stay up with events. If you like Saya or Rusalka then you'll get more out of it than I did. Otherwise, it was pretty much just there as a connecting piece for me.
The Gryps tournament begins! A couple of battles, and a lot more about the world organizations and the Org Luxes. I've said it before about this author: he has built an interesting sci-fi world that he could make into something bigger... but it's just not happening. He goes through the motions, but doesn't deliver any "WoooooW" moments. A fun read.
