The Mafia and His Obsession is a continuation of The Tainted Hearts series by Lylah James. While the first three books focus on Alessio and Ayla, this one is centered around Alessio's second, Viktor and a new character, Valerie. That being said, we still get a lot of "the family" in this book, so don't worry, if you miss everybody like I did, you'll get to catch up with them, too.
Viktor is shot by Alessio and kept away from the Ivanshov family for a year. While in recovery, he's groomed to take over as heir to a rival family's throne. The plan is to infiltrate the Ivanshov family, win back their trust, and take them down.
Meanwhile, Valerie, a gorgeous mute woman locked in a room of the criminal estate Viktor's staying in, catches his eye. She is the wife of the boss, and no one is allowed to look, touch, or talk to her. Brutally raped and abused for her husband's enjoyment, she endures to protect her family.
Viktor has a secret agenda. The last thing he needs is complications and wanting the boss' wife is a pretty big one. It's a complication that could possibly threaten everything he's worked for over the past year, but he can't help himself. He and Valerie have instant chemistry. Over time, their feelings for one another become undeniable, and it makes every day they spend in that house increasingly more dangerous. Will Viktor risk it all for the woman he loves? A woman that belongs to another man?
The Mafia and His Obsession is a well-written mafia romance full of suspense that kept me intrigued until the very end. As always with this author's books, I was sucked in right away, and her writing style allowed me to devour the book in no time. The story will continue in the next installment, and I can't wait to see how things pan out. "Oh shit" were my exact words when I read the ending. Lol
Being reunited with the whole cast of characters was awesome. I especially enjoyed the scene between Nikolai and Evaline. I NEED their story TODAY! Lylah had me tearing up, and there was only one chapter in Evaline's POV. How does she do that shit? Lol
The romance between Viktor and Valerie reminded me a lot of Alessio and Ayla's, and just like their's, it was made more intense by the forbidden nature of their attraction. After all, getting caught means more than just a divorce. It means an entire year wasted and possibly the end of their lives.

Not sure how i feel about this book and why the fuck does everyone love Ayla? First of all, she is naive, stupid and cringe but Victor loves her. I really didnt feel like he truly loves Valarie, it felt like he was lonely and she was there, a forbidden temptation he wanted to forget about Ayla. Whatever Victor felt for Valarie it always seemed forced because he either thought about fucking her or forgetting Ayla/ get someone’s attention since no one gives him ...except Valarie now which is why he goes to her. It didnt seem like he truly acknowledged her pain even after she told him, it was always about his mission and his family which is good but Valarie was always a second choice for him which is what I personally dont like. I mean it felt like he even chose Ayla before Valarie and Valarie is supposed to be his love interest but all he wants from her is the attention and the sex. While from Valarie’s side it was always love for Him but from Victor it was like he was using her. ...and i really dont like Alessio and Ayla. I liked the way it was written and the mafia aspect, also i loved Valarie’s character because she is hella strong..but she deserves someone who keeps her as his first priority.

This series legit took over the month of February and it's time for my loves, Viktor Ivanshov, to shine. At first, the beginning is slightly confusing. How Viktor becomes an heir to Solonik family (he goes by Konstantin Solonik) and what leads him to go on an undercover mission. You have to read this in chronological order to follow the story.
Viktor's love interest is Valerie Solonik. She's Valentin Solonik's wife and her life with him is an agony. She's taken against her will and her sadistic husband gave her a hell of a life. Everyone is forbidden to see her and throughout her life, she's trapped inside her room and guarded by one of Valentin's soliders. She tries to survive and is still hoping she'll escape this kind of life. When Viktor shows up, she feels at ease despite his dark presence.
I don't want to give much away of its story. I enjoyed it a lot. The first half is quite boring but the story becomes more intense on the second half. I love Viktor and Valerie's story. I wish Viktor kills Valentin ASAP and save more innocent lives. That motherfucker deserves to burn in hell. It ends up with a cliffhanger and I want to find out what's in store for them.

TMAHO is amazing!! I can’t say too much without spoiling some things, but this book is perfection. This couple is so perfect for each other. The chemistry they share is dynamite! He is funny and sweet and she is lonely and hurting, but so strong. I loved how he picks up her broken pieces and glues them all back together. But they have major obstacles in their way of course, and I know bloodshed is right around the corner. Lylah James is blowing my mind left and right. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
Tainted Hearts is one of the best mafia series there is. There are just so many twists and turns and everything is so interconnected. I love it when a book features several other POVs besides the main characters. It gives the reader so much more knowledge and helps connect to the story on a deeper level. TMAHO is just a piece of the puzzle, a small part of this epic story. It’s quite possibly the best in series so far for me.
If you like mafia reads, this is one that you absolutely cannot miss. However, these books should be read in order. TMAHO is the fifth book in the Tainted Hearts series.

So, first things, first!!!
The Series 'Tainted Hearts' started with the story of Alessio and Ayla, and we get to know them in 'The Mafia and His Angel' Part 1 + 2 + 3.
Now, the continuation of TMAHA is 'The Mafia and his Obsession' Part 1 + 2 that focus on Viktor and Valerie.
I inhaled both Part 1 and 2 of TMAAHObsession. I read them BOTH at approximately one day.ONE DAY..
(I can't handle cliffhangers so I try to wait binge-read books.)
Long story short, from the first sentence of TMAHO Part 1, I was hooked.
We get to see Viktor being the sexy badass in a suit, ready to fight for what he believes in and trying to rise from the ashes as so to get everything he deserves.
And we get to see Valerie who is mute,trapped and lonely, dreaming of escaping and hoping her family is well. But being strong even in this adverse life circumstances.
We instantly understand that both of these characters need each other.
Viktor is like a Prince Charming for his Princess. Their chemistry was off charts. He sticks together every little one of her heart pieces that had been broken after years of hurting. And she makes him feel like home, because she is giving him love and hope for a better future..
But of course there are obstacles. And not everything we see is as it seems.
Will they be together in the end? Will they fight off their demons?? Will thee truth come out??
In conclusion, I love how we get to read different perspectives. We have POVs not only from the main characters but from secondary characters that change the way we see some things.
You sooo NEED to read these books!!! And yes you can only read TMAHObsession Part 1 and 2. But I truly believe reading TMAHAngel Part 1, 2 and 3 will give you a wider perspective of this Mafia world, since you get to see the Ivanshov family at its best. And you do need to get to know Alessio, the KING more. Like come on. (wink wink)
★ p.s. Nikolay's and Evaline's scene had me shook. Yes, I can't lie they are my favorite couple. And I can't wait for their story.

Dark, gritty, steamy, intense... I could go on with several adjectives describing this sequel to The Mafia and his Angel. I had a hard time putting this one down. In the dangerous and cruel underworld of the Russian mob, there are enemies, friends and enemies masquerading as friends. Violence, betrayal, revenge and power-struggle wars are the name of the game. I enjoyed very much how this story played out with a few good twists. These characters are people you would never root for, they are ruthless killers, they are the ones you should hope to see fall. But in this book, they are the heroes and you desperately want them to succeed and be able to protect the family. There is plenty of action and suspense and you never know what is going to happen next.
This story is a new episode in the Tainted Hearts series, we are getting the opportunity to learn more about Viktor, Alessio’s second in command and best friend. Viktor is playing a dangerous game of chess to protect his mob family, his role of double agent has taken a toll on him. He's cold, controlling and calculating. And yet, we get to see a very different side of this character.
Valerie’s story is very sad. This character is resilient and loyal to her family, she has made huge sacrifices to protect them. What I loved most about her is her determination. I enjoyed how Valerie and Viktor’s secret relationship progressed. It builds slowly, we see their attraction for one another and we see their hesitation to pursue it further. Their chemistry was off the charts and the sexy times, every hidden moment they were together, were hot as hell.
The story was entertaining and fast paced. It had the right balance of romance, steamy scenes and suspense, and kept me on my toes. The ending left many things open and I definitely wanted more!

This book surprised me a lot more than the others books, i was not expecting any of this... I thought it was one thing and in the end it was quite another, and seriously Lylah don't you tire of making us suffer? this book was so painful my god... Valerie, Irina, Ayla, Nikolay.... i really have no reaction!
Viktor and Valerie are soul mates they were destined to meet i'm sure, i'm looking forward to the next one.
And i could not leave out.. what was those nikolayevaline crumbs? I need their book on my table now. They will be my favorites, i just know.

Con este libro pasé del odio al amor en cuestión de capítulos. Al principio no sabía quién era los personajes, pero ya después todo se esclarece y se conoce el motivo. Me destrozo todo lo que estaba pasando, pero ya después me encanto. Viktor es parecido a Alessio en algunos aspectos, como las venganzas y en el amor, aunque este último cambia cuando conoce a Valerie. Valerie es una protagonista que ha luchado en su pasado y sigue luchando en un matrimonio en el que está esclavizada. También tiene una característica particular que, a mí personalmente, me hizo sentir en momentos angustiada. Pero ese final te deja con la boca abierta y gritando porque no puede ser verdad. Aun así, estoy ya deseando leer el siguiente libro y esclarecer todas mis dudas, que son demasiadas.

But he will be trespassing a forbidden line since the boss's untouchable wife, Valerie Solonik, won't be able to get her out of his mind.
With this book, I went from hate to love in a couple of chapters. At first, I didn't know who the characters were, but then everything becomes clear and we know why. It destroyed me everything that was happening, but then I love it. Viktor is similar to Alessio in some aspects, such as revenge and love, although he changes when he meets Valerie. Valerie is a protagonist who has fought and is still fighting in a marriage in which she is enslaved. It also has a particular characteristic that, for me, made me feel in angst moments. But that ending leaves you with your mouth open and screaming because it can't be true. Even so, I'm already looking forward to reading the next book and clearing up all my doubts, which are too many.

3.5 stars - This one is so hard to review because I’m not sure really how I feel. The first 30% I didn’t enjoy, the beginning was just super slow and a little boring but I think the purpose of it was to remind readers of what was going on. After the 30% mark things started to pick up for me and I started getting into the story more but I still wasn’t as excited like I was while reading TMAHA P1/2/3. I liked Viktor’s character and I liked Valarie as well they both were likable characters! Valerie’s story was heartbreaking and I really felt for her. Viktor has a mission and Valerie is distracting him from it! I liked the book but I just didn’t love it like I wanted to!!

El principio me confundió bastante, primero porque quién carajos es Konstantin (lol) y segundo, porque no hay un nombre claro de nuestra protagonista. Oh, por un instante y caigo en la trampa de Viktor (quien resulta ser Konstantin) de estar en una misión importante, donde se toman muy en serio todo desde el principio porque Alessio le dispara y hacen todo realista para que Valentin “rescate” a Viktor y le ayude en una venganza contra Alessio, messy messy… fue hasta que se lee el POV de Viktor cuando regresa a casa de Alessio que ya entendí mejor las cosas, y uhmmmm se conoce más la fijación de Viktor con Ayla. Incluso, al principio de la historia, hay un tease entre la relación de Nikolay y Evaline (ugh Nikolay sólo te lastimas más mintiendo sobre tus sentimientos hacia tu Beauty). En fin, regresando a Viktor, tiene una reunión con Alessio donde queda claro que el plan es que Viktor se gane la confianza de Valentin para desmontar su organización desde adentro y así quitar esa amenaza a la familia Ivanshov. Todo light right, ajá, hasta que Viktor, quien primeramente estaba en una casa x de Valentin disfrutando sus días de soltero, es trasladado a la casa principal y ahí observa por primera vez a una “monja silenciosa”.
Fue difícil leer el POV de Valerie, quién es la mujer que conecta con Viktor, porque ella es esposa de Valentin tras su familia fallar una deuda. Valentin abusa de todas formas de Valerie, teniéndola encerrada y con un guardia a todas horas, pero estando Valentin unos días de viaje, Viktor aprovecha y sin importarle el guardia, se mete a su cuarto y desde ese primer instante la conexión 🔝, de lo que me ha encantado de esta pareja es los pequeños detalles que marcan gran diferencia. Viktor sabe de los rumores, que ella no habla, pero al estar frente a frente se da cuenta de que no es que sea muda, sino más bien, no oye, y le da una pluma y cuadernito porque se describe como insistente y lo que inicia como una obsesión por tener algo prohibido, se convierte en una obsesión incomparable. Esos detalles de Viktor, hacen que Valerie quedé sorprendida y enganchada.
Viktor sabe que debe jugar inteligente para saciar su nueva obsesión, siendo el primer paso deshacerse de su guardia y ganarse la confianza de Valerie. Ciertos días pasan donde Viktor la visita y así es cómo fortalecen su relación hasta que un día cruzan las líneas, que de por sí estaban ya borrosas, y se besan - oooh por cierto el apodo que le pone él a ella, myshka/silent myshka ❤️. Igual es importante mencionar que Viktor me fue ganando un montón porque se nota lo mucho que le importa Valerie, y descubrir su secretos ya no tanto por el juego sino porque es algo de interés personal ahora … y comienza lo peligroso y prohibido, donde cuando Valentin regresa y lastima a Valerie, Viktor recoge y cura en lo físico y emocional a su myshka.
Un detalle muy bonito se me hizo el cisne de origami que le regale a Valerie;;;

Back to her! Lylah James! She's the queen of the dark romances. If you like dark romance trope, just read Lylah's books. And everything you thought an excellent dark romance is going to seem...faded in front of Lylah's majesty. This author is so damn talented. And she really enjoy to write dark. She was born to write this kind of stories. And she is doing a really excellent job.

James has done it again. What a ride. The author is such a talented writer. She literally takes my breath sway with her descriptions; pun intended. She transports the readers with her words, and that is no easy feat. There are just so many wonderfully written passages, so many great one-liners, so much emotion in the writing. It reads beautifully.
The author is also very good at creating complex characters. Characters that are layered. They are like onions. She will peel away one layer at a time, and the more she peels away, the more you will cry. (That’s what I call a perfect simile).
Lylah James likes to toy with her readers. She won’t do the obvious; which is what makes our hearts race at 100 km/h (I’m Canadian, the metric system rules m’kay?). She keeps us hungry for more. More onions! (Consistency is key) And in true Lylah James fashion, she will leave you hanging with an ending that will make you scream. Let’s just admit it, we love being destroyed.
I cannot wait for Part 2! James just keeps hitting these out of the ball park!

Where I positively cannot say ANYTHING without it giving away the story.
There is a Him and a Her.
What I can say is that this book was magnificent! In true Lylah James fashion, I was taken on a ride filled with twists and turns at every corner.
There are characters you will HATE and characters you will LOVE. In its true mafia form, there are some cringe worthy scenes, but oh how we love to look anyway, lol.
This book made me confused, scared, angry, anxious, swoony, loving... just about everything that evil queen of cliffhangers could’ve done, she did.
This is a story about Him and Her. A story filled with an addiction for one another, an obsession. Where you start to doubt the sacrifices and wonder if it’s truly easier to turn your back on everything for that one Obsession.
I hate abs I love these cliffhangers. I’m begging for more already. I NEED MORE!!!

True to form, Lylah James delivered.
This book is full of dark mafia romance, angst and a connection that makes it unable to put down.
Viktor was hilarious and deeply troubled throughout this journey. His humor really made the book flow. His bad-assery is top notch and I’m a huge fan of his. Sexy beast
Valerie starts this book completely deflated from life and all that was taken from her. She is slowly starting to regain a hopeful spirit and I’m craving part two so we can see where this journey takes her. Her strength to protect her family is phenomenal. This character trait was flawless even when she knew she had been given up by them.
The instant connection with Viktor and Valerie stays heated the entire book. There is a pull between them that makes us all swoon. It felt so real at points, I blushed.
Love their connection and I can’t wait to see how the escape pans out in book two!
Bring the heat Ms James!

I'm not sure if it makes sense but the pacing of the book was too slow for my liking and Valerie and Viktor's feelings for each other too fast. As always, it ended with a cliffhanger and I have so many questions! It's also important to mention that the chapter in Evaline's POV put me in a slump and I can't wait for TMAHB!!!!

you know how like when you barely even like a book but it ends in a cliffhanger so you HAVE to read the next one?

This book represents the delusional psyche of men - in sex and in life.
Viktor/Konstantin is the Devil. His words entirely. He is very very important and very dangerous. Also his words. He is obsessed with his best friend and boss's wife - until he sees another woman. Valerie is his enemy's wife. Or sex slave would be a better word for what she is. She sacrificed her life for the safety of her family and is living in emotional and physical abuse. Until she meets Viktor. Who, true to his nature, only thinks about bedding her while she fantasizes about being saved by this imposter in shining armour. Talk about manipulating a SA survivor for his own benefit. It felt like he wanted Ayla; and Valerie was an acceptable replacement. Her chapters were the only ones truly of any substance and i did not physically cringe at her monologues. However, she deserves so much better than a sex addled narcissist like Viktor.
Nikolay-Evaline is another fine example of absurdity. She is a lawyer, a really successful lawyer, by day and a sad snivelling rag doll by night. Despite the fact that he clearly does not want her close, and has made it clear for many years apparently, she doesn't give up on him, which may seem sweet and appealing but i find it pretty useless. If you really do want to help him, you do something he really needs rather than propagating your own wants onto him. She confesses undying love for him and yet manages to be blind to his pain despite it.
Don't even get me started on Ayla and the fact that everyone is in love with her. Literally everyone. I know it's crazy to men to find a woman who actually likes them in this case but, come on. It's like she's the fairy godmother with emotional magic.
I thought that mafia men were morally grey in books. These men are just annoying and sex-stupid. I was rolling my eyes at most of their internal monologues. Also I have found the use of the word 'fucking' before every noun to be damaging and derogatory to literature.
I did however appreciate the family scenes. Probably because I adore the found family trope and that was the only thing that kept me reading.
This book is great for people who want to read into certain kinks especially a damsel in distress or consensual non-consent or Russian men in general. The scenarios are well connected and the plot-line flows in the background. The smut works well with the story and characters.
I suppose i found it less appealing than most because this is the first book I've read in the whole series. Already established fans of the characters may find it otherwise.
If you are someone who wants to read for emotional and intellectual stimulation, do not pick this book. There are others for you. This one is for the smut. And the late nights you cannot fall asleep.

I love to read, fact that 4 years ago wasn't real, but once I found out what I love to read about it was like watching a snow ball growing up.
There are a few genres that I love to read and Mafia books is one of them. The more dark they appear to be, the more I love.

Lylah James is a new author to me and let's just say that I really enjoyed her writing. It's raw and wild, strong and intense with all the ups and downs that makes a story worth our time.
The Mafia and His Obsession is her latest release and it's the fourth book from the Tainted Hearts series. But I advise you to read The Mafia and His Angel, all 4 books... You'll see why.

I was waiting for a dark story but Dayum... It was beyond that. It was intense and so much more.
The plot is superb, very well written, super engaging and powerful. Each chapter made me feel things and see things differently than I thought I would.
The interation between the characters is raw and intense and will make you see that not everything is what it seems.
One minute I was reading and thinking one thing and then bamm it changed. I was happy, I was sad, I was enraged but it was all worth it.
This book presented us with love, devotion, loyalty, family as well as crime, punishment, betrayal and madness.
One minute I was reading and the next it was over... Why? Why? I can't wait that long...
I really can't say more without spoil so I'm going to shut up.

I took way too long reading this book and I don’t know why when I loved the first three books and now we get the brother’s story of the king of the underworld. And I have to say this book in the beginning SHOCKED me to the core. And anyone that reads the first few pages will know exactly what I mean. At first you think the worst of the worst has happened, until it isn’t and the truth is revealed a bit later. But boy I wasn’t sure how I felt LOL but Lylah James totally redeems the story very quickly and I couldn’t stop from being compltely immersed into this story and seeing this forbidden love grow into what it becomes. And we have a heroine that is deaf so I adore seeing a more contemporary setting seeing a character struggle with certain disabilities but still be strong and vibrant. This is not a story for the innocent though —it is a dark mafia romance and there were some things that I struggled with BUT I adored the romance as a whole and the relationship with Vicktor and his family.

Omg! What is up with random secondary character POV and sex scenes. Who cares?! Please stop! Skipped those 2 charapters.
I would never have thought i would say this, but TOO MUCH SEX. It was slow phase and nothing happend. Half of the book hero and heroine just sneaked around (well.. in her room) her monster husband and had lots of sex. Where is the drama, death and bloody bodyparts? I have been cheated!
And i can confirm it ends with cliffhanger (or rather story just stops/cuts off. Nothing exciting.. they have not been caught or something) and second part is not even announced.

I would never have thought i would say this, but TOO MUCH SEX. It was slow phase and nothing happend. Half of the book hero and heroine just sneaked around (well.. in her room) her monster husband and had lots of sex. Where is the drama, death and bloody bodyparts? I have been cheated!
And i can confirm it ends with cliffhanger (or rather story just stops/cuts off. Nothing exciting.. they have not been caught or something) and second part is not even announced.

I really loved The Mafia & his Angel series, so I had hopes up for this one too. Plus Victor had been one of my favorite characters in the series.
However, I didn't really like the book. On many occasions, I felt that the story doesn't move forward at all. The pace was too slow, plus, it felt like Victor is obsessed with Valerie, only because of her being the forbidden fruit, no real emotion involved, like Alessio.
In all, I couldn't wait, for it to be over.
One extra star, though, for the chapter on Nikolay & Evaline!!! Just loved it!!!

the writing is awful. it’s at the same level as a wattpad fan fiction written by a 14 year old. the plot was good in theory, but poor in execution. she needs to stop unloading massive amounts of trauma on her characters, and also depicting the trauma so graphically. even as a dark romance lover i was uncomfortable and did not enjoy those scenes at all. additionally, valerie gaining her voice back? the way it occurred was so cheesy and cliche. overall, i was extremely disappointed by this book.
