Thin Places

Rate this book
Eight men from the Midwest packed their bags and traveled to Iceland to find a cliff they'd seen in a music video. They went to remember. They went to reconnect. They went in search of a thin place.

Thin places. The Celtic Christians used the term for those moments when the space between heaven and earth disappears, and we come face to face with God. Thin places stir our souls and shake us out of routine. They alter our perspective and sometimes change our lives.

Journey with Tim Bohlke, founder and director of Harbor Ministries, to the cliff, the beaches, the mountain tops, and the quiet of his own living room as he recounts he own experiences of thin places. Learn from him how to incline your heart toward the quiet nudges from God so you'll be ready to turn aside and experience thin places.

There was much of this book that I loved. It was interesting, inspiring, hopeful and readable. The down sides for me were parts that felt like an advertisement for the author's ministry and the "vaguebooking", so to speak, about his personal life. While I don't feel he was obligated to share those details, the repeated mention, with overly descriptive words, made it distracting and somewhat annoying if he didn't intend to share those stories.

I read this book last year and somehow missed it on Goodreads. Tim and his ministry, Rhythm in Twenty, has played a huge role in my life. The book is a good one. Below is my review from last year.

This book is great. Tim has written a book which is authentically in his voice as he advocates for space in our modern lives, especially in the realm of our faith. Could we do what he is suggesting? Of course, but so few do. I am so thankful for Tim putting together a more comprehensive call to quiet and space in which one can pursue both the peace and growth the modern life doesn’t offer. Check it out for sure
