I was not expecting Wins & Losses to be so good! The drama wasn't overstated or understated. It had just the right amount to keep the storyline interesting. I didn't just fall in love with Carmen and Nassir. Jordy stole a little bit of my heart too. The dynamics of his and Carmen's relationship was the highlight of the book for me. I love how the death of their father brought them closer together. Carmen and Nasir were perfect for each other. Given the drama she went through with her trifling azz fiancé and so called bestie, the progression of their relationship still managed to be natural and organic. The author didn't rush their union. She let it progress accordingly. Speaking of Will and Maxine, I do believe they have tied for the number one spot as the worst people ever. I don't think I've ever wanted to whoop a character's azz as much as I wanted to whoop Maxine. That backstabbin' heffa deserved that azz whoopin' Carmen gave her. If a wolf in sheep's clothing was a person, it would definitely be Maxine. But that's okay because, in the end, she got hers. Or, should I say, she didn't get hers. Meaning, she did all that scheming just to end up pregnant and alone. God don't like ugly. Nasir's parent were a hoot. Tina and Martin are the parents we all deserve. They were hilarious! Alexandra Warren really hit it out of the box with Wins & Losses. The characters were easy to connect with and you found yourself rooting for everyone. The author takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions from grief and loss to passion and betrayal! This book was a winner!

4.5 This was very very nice. I don't read M/F often because it's usually steeped in low key sexism so this one was a nice change of pace. The two MCs really supported each other but let each other breathe if that makes sense. There was drama but it did not feel OTT. I don't know anything about basketball but I was able to follow, no problem. My only niggle was the representation of safe sex. They used condoms but he was the one responsible for providing and she did not take any contraception (which has no bearings on the story but it annoyed me). And the pull-out method? Condoms are not only there to prevent pregnancy, what the hell was that? That's a small thing obviously. The villains were well drawn and properly dealt with. I would recommend!

This was so good! There was nothing over the top about it, it just felt like real people going through real issues. I enjoyed their relationship with each other and Jordy. I really liked seeing Carmen slowly step into a more parental role and Nasir stepping up for Jordy. This book touches on so much but it never felt like too much. It was very well paced. Of course, the epilogue was perfectly short and sweet too. I’m glad I stumbled across this book!

This was a great story with even better characters..... And I had my Nas & Carmen aha moment about 47% into the book! LOL (I was like.....ohhhhh... I get it!)

But Coach V and Carmen had it bad for each other the moment they were reintroduced as adults. Although the circumstances surrounding their reunion were quite sad, the pairing and united front they presented for Jordy was a joy to watch.

Loved this story and loved the HEA!

Carmen and Nasir!!!! I was not prepared to enjoy this story as much as I did! Folks at work thought I was crazy the way I screamed out and cackled listening to this audiobook! Wesleigh did her thing per usual. Chance was just ok 🫣.

Carmen returned to her childhood hometown after the untimely murder of her father. She was reunited with Nasir after finding out he was her brothers high school basketball coach! This title wins & losses was very fitting.

Carmen was engaged at the time and while all the signs were obvious her triflin fiancé Will was cheating it was not who we expected. Whew baby when that secret was exposed!!!!! I howled!!! They tried it!!!!!!!!

Jordan, Brittany and Alysa’s high school drama was so familiar 😫😫 Brittany said I’m not the one nor the two 🤣😅 I know that’s right! Alexa play Upgrade You by Beyoncé! He later redeemed himself but still sis said you not gone play in my face!

Nasir’s parents kept me in stitches!!! They were a hoot during the basketball game!

Bravo Alexandra 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I truly enjoy this story, the events of this story took me on an emotional ride....from tears to laughter...I absolutely adore the organic development of Nas and Carmen's relationship. I also must admit that I love Jordy....he was a great little brother. I loved his relationship with his big sister and how the two of them really went the extra mile to take care of one another....I thought Uncle Jordan might have stepped up because of the untimely death of his brother....but he wasn't in the story as prevalent as the others. This was a really good story about life....and Wesleigh was extraordinary as always as a narrator.

3⭐️🌶️ Carmen and Nasir had chemistry from the very beginning, and Nasir showed that he would do anything for the people that he loved. Plot twists I wasn’t expecting, but I was expecting the happy ending. Also, the villains of this story all got what they deserved.

I enjoyed the story. Wesleigh is always on point. Male narrator wasn't terrible. But didn't flow to me as well as she did. The story was a dose of realism. I am always a fan of a good love story.

Loved It!

Awesome storyline. I felt bad for Carmen and Jonah losing their dad in a senseless crime. There is a lot of senseless crimes that is going on in this world today that I question if life truly matters at all to some. It should and it does to me. Wish more could feel the same, especially the ones doing the crime. Well anyway this was a great story because we all win some and lose some. It's all about our reaction to the action. In Mr. Wellington's home going things were put in perspective for those closest to him. His daughter had to realize that the man she had was not for her and her brother needed her. His son needed guidance and someone in his corner. He also needed to learn to be his own man living without his dad. Nasir had to become that protector for Jonah and Carmen. He had to become that calm before the storms that they definitely encountered. I'm glad they were so strong that they couldn't be torn down. I'm glad everyone came out fighting to get their happy ending. Great Read! ReneeG 👍

Alexandra never disappoints. This read was a bit different from her others but good nonetheless. I loved Carmen, Jordy and, Nasir! They were all likable characters with very relatable storylines. Alexandra is one of my favorites and I can't wait to see what's next. Her growth is apparent with each book she writes! Great read.

Nasir and Carmen had sparks instantly. She was engaged and couldn't help but be intensely attracted to Nasir. As her life kept falling apart, he was right there. I really enjoyed this story. I loved seeing the two of them fall in love. I loved how Nasir wanted to take care of her and her brother. Great book!

Carmen & Nasir

I think it's safe to say this wasn't a love story. It was more of a drama than anything. The beginning was a bit hard read for some reason. This was well written, especially the portrayal of the teenage boy athletes.

3.5 stars I liked the story and the characters, and as usual I enjoyed the author’s writing. However, I wanted more time and development with the couple to balance out the heavy issues and the drama.

Definitely winning!

This was such a cute story! Carmen and Nasir were perfect for one another! Her trifling fiance and so called bestie were a trip! Through the untimely death of Mr Charles a beautiful romance emerged as well as an ever greater bond between Jordy and his Minnie! Loved it!

Major Win!

Wins and Losses by Alexandra Warren is about high school gym teacher/basketball coach Nasir Valentine and business consultant Carmen Wellington. Carmen returns to her hometown after the tragic passing of her father. Her younger brother Jordy is having a difficult time dealing with the loss of their father so decides to stay in town and support him. Carmen has a fiancé, Will who is the epitome of useless. He offers no support during her grieving nor does he show any understanding of why she needs to be there for her little brother. It should be no surprise that she connects with her brother’s basketball coach Nas as he is supportive and reliable (also very attractive 😍). From the moment Nas and Carmen meet it’s heated stares, tender hugs and innuendos, trust the chemistry is there! Nas and Carmen went to rival high schools where they were basketball stars now they’re rooting for the same team. Their competitive natures lead to fun sexy times! I love how Jordy encourages them to get together. Although Carmen and Jordy are going through a difficult time they always have each other’s back and Nas adds to that relationship (unlike Will). This is a sweet read, the losses only make the wins sweeter. 🥰 And that epilogue! 🥰

This book was so good. I found no faults with the book. It's the story of Nas and Carmen. Nas is a basketball coach and former player. Carmen is a former basketball player too. When we meet Carmen and Nas, they are attending Carmen's pop funeral. He was murdered in front of his store. Carmen is engaged to a jerk who fumbles her by cheating on her with her best friend. Carmen's little brother lived at home with pop and is coached by Nas. After pop dies, Carmen moved back home to look after her brother. Things heart up between Carmen and Nas. Once Carmen drops that dead weight (her ex) she ends up finding HEA with Nas.

So much more happens in this book. Do good. Worth the read.

Where is the application to join the Alexandra Warren fan club?

Are the board positions filled? I can definitely step into the secretary position if needed.

Whew! I finished Wins & Losses and your girl is shook! She put her whole entire foot in this book.

First of all: the cover is gorgeous. JUST GORGEOUS. I love a good green and chile, with this couple in the grey and white in the background? I’m going to need a paperback.

I spend a lovely Sunday afternoon reading this latest release and I was definitely not disappointed.

Let’s get to the storyline before I lose my train of thought.

Carmen Wellington is back in town after the death of her father sends their family reeling. Her main focus is her brother, a budding basketball player, and making sure he successfully finishes his senior year and is off to college. Moving back home is not a decision she makes lightly and she’s in for quite a rollercoaster ride as she’s faced with a few surprises that throw her for a loop. The biggest surprise of them all might be the sexy ass and super attentive, Nasir Valentine, her brother’s basketball coach. This is Nas’s first year as coach and while a championship is his priority, he is also intent on helping his star player cope with his immense loss.

Nasir and Carmen were a really good match. They meshed well together and had great chemistry. While they both had a lot to deal with, stress and outside influences threatened them on a few occasions, they just felt great together. This wasn’t necessarily an easy storyline as Wins & Losses had many layers and a complex plot as we dug into Carmen’s father’s death and saw how easily teenagers can be influenced. However, Alexandra managed to give us a solid story with a deep sense of family and plenty of moments where I let out a laugh or two. I especially loved Nasir’s parents! His mama was a trip, in the best possible way.

Treat yo’self and pick up Wins & Losses, trust me, you won’t regret it.

I saw the character visuals from @ariesreadtoo on Instagram and was drawn in by her review because she mentioned that she was in a reading slump and this reread for her pulled her out. Wins and Losses also helped me overcome a reading slump, let’s talk about it a bit.

We are introduced to Carmen Wellington and Nasir “Nas” Valentine’s in this read. Carmen is a non- sense, defense readiness professional, who once was a star basketball player, and is highly competitive. She is also battling the grief that comes with the loss of a parent as well as the anger that comes when it was due to gun violence. Nasir is a laid back high school teacher that coaches the high school male basketball team. His star player happens to be Carmen’s little brother - Jordy. Nas is book bae material, tall, supportive and arrogant in the bedroom. 🤤

This read had a grit to it when I really enjoyed it instead of the traditional romance. Everytime Trip appeared on the page I would tense because he just didn’t take instruction well and seemed like the type that wasn’t just talk. I would have loved to have had a bit more from him just to understand why he was so invested. It was nice that with such a heavy event at the start of this read that some comic relief was offered throughout from the likes of Jordy, Peter and Mr. and Mrs. Valentine.

I was able to listen to @audible of this release and @wesleigh_siobhan and @chancesmolders performance was awesome! Alexandra never disappoints with the steam and the building of the world around her characters and they were able to add to my visualization. 4 stars ✨

What a journey

Where do I begin with this one. I loved how Carmen came into the picture with her brother both are great athletes that unfortunately lost the last person they have to love and nurture them growing up after their mom's passing so young. I think trip deserved more than just a sentence and nasir should've squeezed the life out of him regardless of family ties, sometimes you have to cut them off if they don't mean you anygood. As far as will old ass goes with Maxine I hope that baby is hi so he can live with that karma for the rest of his miserable life, that was so coldblooded how he messed over minnie like that. Nasir is the man baby for putting her back together again and making her fall in love with him from mr. Right at the moment to fiance and baby daddy. I could re-read this story all over again because it was so good and lengthy also. Five stars isn't doing this book justice keep up the great writing Alexandra I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of your books!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The sarcasm, flirting, ass-kicking, and everything in between. I was here for it. I was wondering how sis thought she was gonna be able to stay with her brother when her fiancé was already acting a bit too much into himself in the very beginning. But, that fool is a whole karmic conversation all on his on. It's usually very telling when everyone in your family is saying something isn't right about your significant other or "I only tolerate them for you".

Anyway, I appreciate that the book was an open and shut case without an upsetting cliffhanger. Carmen got all the things she deserved after all the tragic circumstances and Nasir's good guy personality rewarded him very nicely in the end.

This was my first book by this author and I feel like I chose well. I normally try to read the author's work from the first book if possible. But when I was deciding on which author to choose from, this book was like, "Forget all of that. Pick me!!!" So glad it did not disappoint.

Warren for the Win

And another one, and another one,... This was such a good read! It definitely was different from Warren's previous works, but this was a notable effort. Regardless (how do people write out the word regardless, and still say i-regardless?)... Regardless of the unfortunate string of circumstances that brought Nasir and Carmen together, it was clear that they were meant to be. Nasir is a stand-up dude, good looking, walking with a big stick... Carmen is a loyal to her friends and family, but she will throw them hands. They are both extremely competitive, and love a good game of basketball 🏀. I'm so glad we didn't have a " play you for your ❤ moment! These characters are easy to connect to, and you easily find yourself cheering them on. Warren engages all of the emotions from grief and loss, to passion and betrayal!!! This one is a winner!!!

Love❤❤

This was a very good book that taught many lessons especially about love and family. I knew Will wasn't the one for Carmen when he was detached at her father's funeral. I love how Carmen responded to Nasir's hug at the cemetery with a low moan. I hate it was her so called best friend, Maxine, who Will was cheating with even to the point of her getting pregnant by him. What started out as a casual relationship between Nasir and Carmen turned to love and being their for each other though good and bad times. Carmen made a huge sacrifice to uplift her life and move to be the rock that Jordy needed. I'm glad that Nasir made the sacrifice to keep Trip away from both Jordy and Carmen. I'm glad that everything worked out in the end for Nasir, Carmen, Jordy and trip was taken off the streets so he couldn't pull more kids to a life of crime.

Alex has done it again!

The growth Alex has gone through as a writer since her very first book is amazing. She as always been a great storyteller with amazing characters but she has grown so much over time. This book is evidence of that. Carmen and Nasir both have been through life challenges that should have crippled them but they kept pushing forward. They should have been jaded but weren’t and that is the beauty of the story. They still saw beauty in the ashes. Now, my heart skipped several beats at different points in the story and in others I was just angry, but that shows you how great a story this was. And Maxine, Will, Trip and Stephanie all got what they deserved but I still want them to get even more. (I’m petty lol)
