This is book 9 in the Lin Coffin series by USA Today Bestselling Author J A Whiting.
The main mystery is solved in each book but you will enjoy the stories more if they are read in order.
When Lin Coffin and her cousin, Viv, visit a deserted island off the coast of Nantucket, a ghost makes an unexpected appearance asking Lin for help. Between trying to learn what the ghost needs from them and discovering the strange history of the island, the cousins are stymied at every turn. As they work to solve the mystery surrounding the ghost’s identity and his cause of death, Viv discovers something surprising and unforeseen that changes the way they gather the clues.
Will Lin and Viv be able to give the spirit what he needs in order for him to finally rest in peace?
This story has ghosts and some mild paranormal elements.

This is one series that I buy the day it's released and read that day, then I'm so upset it's over! Will be waiting for the next one!!! And it Will be awesome X2!!!
Lin Coffin this time has another seeing ghosts....
...in this next adventure they have to solve a ghost's identity, who killed him and find a way to take him home.
Their ghost surprised Lin whilst on Canter Island enjoying a day out with Viv her cousin, Viv's boyfriend John and Lin's boyfriend Jeff. John borrowed a motor boat, which was convincing Viv he was heading for a mid life crisis.
Everything is confusing with the ghost not giving many clues to what happened.
Jeff, Lin and Leonard are working for Dr. Mitchell who has both a connection to Canter and family history there too.
As the case slowly starts to be exposed, the case gets muddied by lots of different aspects of the island.
The ending is sweet and for that reason I am looking forward to the next book.
The story was slow. Very slow to be honest and it was hard to finish, however it did suddenly pick up near the end and was enjoyable for the ending.
The details were slow to emerge and the characters were missing their usual energy which made for a slow read. If you are reading the series then it is worth the read. If you are new to the series an earlier one would be a better read.
I am totally invested in this series. Every time I received an 'Author's' notice from Amazon, I quickly turn to see what J.A. Whiting has written now. This ninth book in the Lin Coffin series was certainly a joy to read. In fact if I was to find any fault? It would be that the book always seems to short to me.
Cousins, Lin and Viv, are busy with their work and their boyfriends. These two ladies do almost everything together, including solving dead person cases. In this book, as Viv worries about her long-time boyfriend's preoccupation with selling his beloved sailboat and slightly distancing himself, Lin runs into a ghost that actually communicates with her.
As they research the island where the ghost resides, a fascinating history about the island is revealed. What does this ghost have to do with treasure, smallpox, Civil War, etc? Can the Cousins find the truth and make sure the ghost gets home?
The blend of history and fiction is seamless in this novel. Truly it is one of the best (yet,) in this series. I eagerly await the next volume. Also, I loved the ending, but no hints here.
A terrific read. But they do seem to be getting slight simplistic. Maybe the series needs something new to be added to the mix - the girls partners getting some sort of power? The two couples have gone for a day trip to a nearby island. The island as had a checkered past and she is amazed to see a ghost but also because her cousin suddenly appears to be able to see something too. The ghost has asked for help to get home. Can the girls solve the riddle of who he is and where home is? Also will her cousin find out why her partner is acting strangely and will she share the family secrets? A good plot but lacked something to make it great. Whilst the characters are as good as ever, the animals played a negligible part in this book.
Lin, Jeff, Viv and John go to an island on a day trip.Viv hears her first ghost. Lin and Viv go back to island and find that some of the grave sites destroyed, looks like by weather. Lin and Viv go to police station to report damage then call state board of health. Lin gets a call back that the state that two excavators have been sent repair graves and seawall. They talk Dr. Mitchell whose grandfather was in charge of the island during the smallpox epidemic in early 1900s. The ghost reappears to girls. Viv is now involved with the ghosts directly. The girls need to find out who killed William and why. Good story.
This is the first book I have read in this series. I will be sure to go back and read every one since this book was really good. Lin is funny in how comfortable she is with seeing ghosts; Viv is just the opposite. The characters in this book were well described, enough so that you felt you knew them. The plot was very intriguing and original. Found the premise of pirate treasure and an island with a jaded past both entertaining and fun. Will definitely read more of Ms. Whiting’s books.
On a visit to a nearby Island Lin sees the ghost of a young man who manages to communicate with her. He wants to go home, who he is and where home is are going to be very hard to find out. Cantor Island was used.as a quarantine station, people at risk of having smallpox were sent there, some were local but most were immigrants fresh off the boats into America. this mystery may be one Lin and friends cannot solve at least not without some ghostly help.
This was a pleasant book, but not as good as others by JA Whiting that I have read. All the signs were pointing very clearly to the answers, to me, but not to the characters. I found I was getting annoyed at the author for making her heroines so dim! But still it was an easy read and I did enjoy it overall.
This series just gets better and better! I love the coastal setting, the closeness of the cousins and the intricate story details that make up this series. The books can be read separately, but I would recommend reading them from the beginning to get more details and background on the characters.
I do enjoy the Lin Coffin mysteries but this was one that I figured out whodunit very early on so I was not surprised at the reveal. I like the twist about Viv and that there is a hint she will develop further. It was a little cliché about the ending but all in all, though a quick read, it was still enjoyable
Thoroughly enjoyable cozy Lin Coffin mystery. Once again on order to solve the mystery of what a ghost needs help with, much research is done until the identity of the ghost is found and Lin and her friends work on the puzzle pieces from there. Lovely twist at the end too.
Once again, J A Whiting, has written a superb mystery that I couldn't put down. Imagine being able to discover a long lost relative and bring them peace. So many of us have family members for whom records have been lost.
I like the characters Lin and Viv as well as Anton and others. The story was very good. Hopefully you'll include them in future stories. I really enjoyed the story. Thank you and stay well.
Recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good mystery, Lin and Viv are great together and I am so glad that Viv has the same good fortune at seeing ghost as Lin does. Looking forward to reading more of their ghostly adventures soon
This is an awesome series. The characters are so likeable. You feel like the cousins are friends or family. The story lines are fun and informative also. The only problem is you must wait for the next book to be released.
I enjoyed this book. The characters are entertaining and growing into their skills. Relaxing reading. Interesting storyline and descriptive scenery. Off to get next one.
It's about time. Eight years is plenty. I jumped the gun by a book but am happy all the same. Can't wait to pull up number 10. Only one question, what happened to the treasure?
Love the history in these stories, I don't know if its all real history, but love what J A is writing it makes the stories interesting. Glad the cousins got engaged. I'm not usually into ghost stories but ha these aren't scary .
J A Whiting is my favorite author Her books are easy reading and keeps your attention I have read many of her books and looking forward to reading many more of her books
This is a very good series. I'm really enjoying it. I get a kick out of the fact that Lin and Viv work all day and still have time to fix meals, take bike rides and hikes around the island, plus solve ghost mysteries. Ah, but they're young and anything can happen in a book. 😊😉🌠
Lin sees ghosts and follows clues to help them rest in peace. She gets allot of input from her historian friend and others. A little romance thrown in for good measure.
¹This series keeps getting better. I love the storyline and the main characters are like family. This boOK is recommended for those who love cozy mysteries.
Like all stories by J. A. Whiting this was a wonderful job by the author. The characters and the setting for the story was outstanding! I'm ready for MORE!
While I spotted the reason for John's weird behavior from the first time it was mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised by Jeff. This was a sweet story that I really enjoyed.
