and just when I think I can't get any weirder, in walks Dr. Bentley...
Around the 50% mark, characters and storyline started coming together and I felt it was going to be smooth sailing from here....
The story goes from confusing to downright FUCKED UP......
Hillary: Tail of the Dog IS DEFINITLY NOT FOR EVERYONE. I literally cringed, gagged and downed a few pepto shots while reading......I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!.

This book was really good, but it is not for everyone as it is downright gritty, psychological, twisted, and so gore infested that some people will be having night terrors the rest of their lives!
So definitely HEED THE WARNING that if you can't take anything that has to do with, rape, torture, and cannibalism then do not read it. This book is not a romp through fairyland, it is a romp through the most worst serial killer's mind you could ever imagine. When reading this book think of Jeffrey Dahmer possessing the body of a 15 year old girl and then you will know what this book is about.
The book revolves around Hillary Grayson, a 15 year old girl, that wakes up in a room tied to bed with no clothes on and nothing covering her body. She is not able to move her body and she is not able to remember anything about herself. She is being taken care of by two doctors and one woman.
Doctor #1: Dr. Morrison is a neurosurgeon and he administers shots, takes her vitals, and supposedly keeps an eye on her (but he is not all what he seems and he has some twisted plans that are unethical in store for Hillary).
Doctor #2: Dr. Bentley is a psychiatrist and he sits with her taking notes, trying to elicit responses from her of nightmares/dreams she has been having since she has been in their care (but yet again he seems to genuinely be concerned for her well being and yet he lets Dr. Morrison keep her tied up, so his intentions are not true either).
Woman: Dr. Morrison's wife - she takes care of Hillary by bathing her and looking out for her general welfare (but all that changes when the crap hits the fan halfway through the book).
To understand the intriguing depth and plot of this book, you would have to understand the girl Hillary as she is not really what she seems either. She is not the sweet innocent teenager next door as she is something far much worse and the main reason she is tied up is to keep her twisted mind and body from going into hellish overdrive.
This book will take you so deep into the depths of hell that you will wonder if you can ever recover from the psychological, demented, twisted, gory bloodfest that is within these pages. I read this book in about 5 hours and I am giving it five stars for one hellbent, crazy, and twisted ride.
(This is now directed toward Angel - someone said in one of your reviews that you are the Queen of Gore - after reading this book I would say that title should be official!) :)
Update: I have decided that Angel's nickname the "Queen of Gore" be changed to the "Queen of Extreme". That has a better ring to it too! :)

Well..it's not often that I admit that a book kicked my ass. This one not only kicked my ass. It picked me up and body slammed me.
I don't think my measly little mind will ever be the same.
At about 67% percent..I almost gave up. But what did I do? I kept reading the dang thing.
Cuz..well
This book is NOT for everyone! Don't say you weren't warned.
Angel..you just slayed the evil queen.

5 Almost Pissed My Pants Stars!
What the hell is that collage about with all those house hold items in it you say? Those tools will never be used again without an image attached to it that's all I'm saying!
Read the warning label on this book before you read! It's not a romance! It's not full of rainbows and unicorns. It will most defiantly have you gagging...
and going....
Hillary a 15 year old girl wakes up panicking after a nightmare. She has no memory. She doesn't know what her name is or where the hell she is. She's scared and she can't move her body. A man comes in to check on her. His name is Dr Morrison. He tells Hillary that she's in his home and being kept there for her protection. Hillary doesn't trust him. She wants nothing to do with him. She must escape.
After a failed attempt of escaping Hillary wakes up tied to the bed. She still has no memory. She's still having these scary nightmares and she must figure out how to get out of this house. I was reading saying this though...
Monica is Dr Morrison's wife and she comes in to take care of Hillary. Bathing her, brushing her teeth, exercising her arms and legs. Hillary doesn't trust Monica either. But Monica just might be of use to her.
Dr Bentley comes in the picture. He says he is there to help Hillary. He's a psychiatrist. Hillary likes to look at Dr Bentley. He has a great smile and makes her feel things she's not sure about.
The first half of the book had me thinking hard! Are these people really Drs? Why are they holding Hillary there? Will Hillary escape?
Hillary just wants to go home! Does she have a home? What is chasing her in her nightmares? What is wrong with her?
I can honestly say that my mind was fucked! I could NOT put this book down! I watched the sun come up! I was texting Kirsten all night! She's the one that dragged my ass into this book! Let's read this she says! Check out the warning! Check out the reviews! It's going to get us out of our book funk! At times I'm sure we were both thinking...oh shit! WTF have we gotten ourselves in to? Lmao!
I'm so glad we were reading this neck to neck! We definitely needed the support! Do you know how hard it is reading a book peeking through your fingers? Hahaha!
As the book goes on you will start seeing something similar to this....

That will have you once again looking like this....

4.5 Stars..
I have read a good amount of Horror,abusive,twisted books in my life. But This book Made all the "horror" stories that I've read like a walk in the park...
..
How would you react, If one day you woke up in a unfamiliar place: Naked, tied to a bed. barely moving your limbs. and on top of all that you can't remember who you are??!!.. (I would be scared shitless)..And that's where Hillary Greyson found herself..
Waking up to face two complete strangers. Hillary would do anything to escape this place that she believes she is being captive. Regardless on how many times Dr. Morrison, and Dr. Bentley assures her that they are her psychiatrists..
The Plot of this book was really good. that i had to wonder which Character that mind-fucked-me worse. I had understanding/hate toward hillary at the beginning, with getting deeper into the story i realized that not only she's one (I don't know what to call her after that!), but also .. Although you have to admire her for being one clever girl..As for Dr. Morriosn, Dr. Bentley,and Monica. loved how they were reasonable with each tactics. but at some parts i felt they were narcotic.
Loved everything about the story. yet i felt some parts were to slow,and others to darn fast! but that's okay a person needs a slow pace while reading these kinda of stories!!

5 -Most Imaginative Torture Ever- stars!!!
First of all....
Bravo, Angel Gelique!!! You have a beautifully warped mind! I am still gagging and in awe of some of the things I read about. That was some of the most brutal scenes ever described. After reading this, there are certain regular household items that I will never be able to look at the same way again! Kudos!
Oh boy, where does this girl begin?
I will just give the barest minimal plot.
As with all mindfuck reads, you have to experience this for yourself.
We have four main characters in the story.
Hillary- A 15 year old, who is confined to a room in Dr. Morrison's house, undergoing a project of sorts.
Dr Morrison- A neurosurgeon who is testing out a new drug he's been working on.
Monica- Dr Morrison's wife, and partial caregiver to Hillary.
Dr Bentley- A psychiatrist who is working with Hillary's mind.
When Hillary wakes up in a strange place, she has no memory of not only where she is, but who she is.
The doctors are trying to help Hillary regain her memory, but there are some bumps along the way. She is not making this experiment easy for anyone. All Hillary wants to do is go home, and she is going to manipulate everyone in hopes to gain freedom.
Met with resistance, Dr Morrison is forced to treat Hillary a little more harshly then expected.
When circumstances arise, everything will change.
So....
You should be!
First and foremost:
Take the warning to heart.
This was seriously sick, disturbing, and extremely graphic. If you cannot take horror-like books, do not proceed. You can not erase some of these images told. It sticks.
A big fan of the mindfuck read, I stumbled upon this gem in my recommendations. After skimming a couple reviews, I knew I had to see what this was all about. And without a doubt, I had to get my fellow dark junkie friend, Michelle to hold my hand during the process. I'm so glad I did. It definitely was the change of pace we needed to step away from our usual romance genre.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, which is hilarious because I am not into horror movies at all. This kept me on the edge of my seat and peeing my pants in total shock.
The first 60+% was all about fucking with you. I didn't know who to trust, who was telling lies, and what all the little "hints" were about. I loved trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
Then Shit. Got. REAL! If my mouth wasn't open in shock and horror, my face was contorted into some weird half gag/ half pained look. I bet I looked really cute!
This continued for 20%, and then the rest of the book I was an anxious mess! My heart was racing and I was stressed out.
All in all, a very exciting read that totally messed me up.
I will pick up the rest of the books in this series, eventually. For now, I need a break.
Mindfuck+Gorefest+Anxiety = 1 exhilarating book! ❤️

Hillary, a teenage girl, wakes up from a nightmare to face a new reality. She is nude and tied to a bed, with no memories of who she is or how she got there. The doctor caring for her tells her that she is restrained for her own good, but offers no details or hints of how she came into his care. Hillary is encouraged to remain calm and to try to regain her own memories. Once they do come back, there will be hell to pay. Even if you like your horror vicious and in explicit detail, this novel will surely make you cringe and maybe even close your eyes to the graphic prose. But you will have to open them to finish. You may even want more. Happily, there are two more books in the series. Newcomers, you have been warned.

It’s the first time I read a book from Angel Gelique and I loved it !
I thought I knew what I was going to read but I was mistaken.
This book is unexpected and so very brutal !!
At first I wanted to tell the characters to leave poor Hillary alone. Then I suspected something was wrong with Hillary. And then BAM !! Hillary happened !!
I love stories with deranged psychopath , but I wasn’t ready for that level of cruelty and violence.
Don’t let the cover fool you, appearances are deceptive.
I highly recommend this book to extreme horror’s fan , only !
If you’re a fan you must read it.

wow where to begin?
I consider myself quit twisted and I tend to push myself to watch, listen or read the gross just to prove I can, that I don't have many limits (I do have some but...) and I honestly thought I had read some of the sickest books out there. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to see if the cartoon network is still running at this late hour or to find a fluffy love-dovey rom-com to try to erase these horrible images.
I consider myself quit twisted and I tend to push myself to watch, listen or read the gross just to prove I can, that I don't have many limits (I do have some but...) and I honestly thought I had read some of the sickest books out there. My own book...so I can't write an unbiased review, though I'd like to think it is good! It is a gory, violent, sick, twisted and disturbing horror novel, so if you are easily offended, skip this one!

Wow Wow Wow….what a little gem my girls found here!! I don’t even know how to review this mad-cap of horror and gore. I can tell you that I couldn’t put it down…my status updates will show you graphics of disgust, head spinning and pure amazement. Is it possible for a 15 year old girl be as psychotic as Hillary was? What made her the way she is? Is this a product of nature vs. nurture or a combination of both?
I have to ask….do you think she really did lose her memory the whole time? Do you think she was playing nice-nice or really was cooperating and couldn’t remember? Is a child that young able to be as manipulative and conniving as Hillary was? So many questions – so much information I want to know about Hillary….I want more and more to understand the reason why this child feels the need to mutilate, torture and eat others.
I do feel for her…something in her life made this monster – this monster that has a stomach of steel and a heart of ice. A child who laughs about the suffering of others, a child who preys on fear – what more can we ask for in a story about horror!
You know…I rooted for her – even after all the atrocities – I fucking rooted for her! Yeah – Hillary go after the army guy and eat some cannibalistic ass!!
Now – the reason for the ½ star deducted – I have a hard time reading 3rd person POV and there were times that I had to go back and re-read a section because it switches so fast between characters that I was getting confused. This is mostly my problem because of speed reading. It didn’t take long though and the story flowed flawlessly!
This author is a genius….you know when you think about horror stories – the first thing that comes to mind is MALE authors ---- oh, the woman’s heart is too soft or filled with too much empathy that there is no way a woman can write a true horror story.
You know what I have to say to those prejudices? Go fuck yourself…you haven’t read a story by Angel Gelique --- this far surpasses any horror that Stephen King has written – this is raw and this can be non-fiction…that’s what makes it so fucking scary!
My hats off to you Ms. Gelique for sharing such a horrific tale in the mind of a psychopath!

5 ♪ ♫My Favorite Things ♪ ♫ STARS
Thanks to my girl Kjean Lara que se animó a leer este libro conmigo y me ayudo a darle un poco más de sentido.
Si tuviera que describir este libro en una palabra seria: EVIL
La escritura y desarrollo de la historia es maravilloso, teniendo en cuenta que las escenas que nos muestra son crueles y detalladamente perturbadoras.
La primera mitad del libro me la pase dudando de todo, y todos. La protagonista despierta amarrada a una cama, sufre terribles pesadillas y no recuerda nada. También vemos la perspectiva de los demás personajes, y la poca información que nos daban simplemente me hacía dudar más de todos. No confiaba en nadie y sentía que cada detalle era clave para resolver el misterio escondido.
Como no sabía qué tipo de historia era, al inicio mis teorías envolvían un poco de todo, desde hombre lobo, hasta desordenes de personalidad.
Después de la escena de la hipnosis que es el detonante para que los secretos salgan a la luz, la historia tomo un camino completamente diferente y vemos al peor monstruo al que debemos de temerle, un psicópata.
Mi parte favorita
Este libro me gustó mucho porque nos muestra un personaje que es pura maldad, disfruta de torturar y asesinar personas sin el menor remordimiento. Que si bien si tuvo un detonante que desato su locura yo creo que nació siendo de esa manera, la tragedia que le sucedió solo le dio un pretexto para matar. Que es también lo que me da más miedo de esta historia, que este tipo de sujetos existen en la realidad.
No recomiendo este libro si son muy sensibles, es más para las personas que disfrutan de la violencia, el gore o simplemente están buscando salir de su zona de confort.
A mí me dejo muy perturbada y me mantuvo con ese escalofrió todo el tiempo, no tenía ganas de continuar la trilogía, pero el final me dejo con muchas dudas y pues si la seguiré.

I just wrote a long ass review on this book, but it didn’t save, AND disappeared!! WTF!!
Anyways, I had read really great reviews about this book, and didn’t want to get left behind, so here goes.....
The story centres around a 15 year old girl called Hillary, who wakes up, strapped to a bed, and is being experimented on by 2 doctors. At the beginning, we don’t know the backstory of Hillary, and tbh I thought the story was going nowhere, and this sweet innocent girl would be strapped to this bed throughout the whole book....oh how wrong was I!! One of the doctors one day, removes her restraints after feeling sorry for her....AND this is where the story really begins. Gone is the sweet and innocent 15 year old...we find out that Hillary is a serial killer, but not just any old serial killer, but a complete f**cked up monster of a human. This book is BRUTAL AND VISCERAL, with hella blood, gore, torture, rape and cannibalism. This is only recommended to those who love their ‘extreme horror’ and who have a strong stomach. I really liked this book, and am looking forward to reading the others in this trilogy. The first part was, for me, a bit tedious as there wasn’t much of a backstory at the beginning, and I thought it was going nowhere, BUT when she is released from her restraints, is when the book becomes what I wanted it to be....HELLA BRUTAL!!
I gave this 4 disgustingly delicious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and not 5, as the first part was a bit 🥱 but stick with it, and soon the good stuff will happen!!! 🤘🏼

I’m a huge Angel Gelique fan. Have been since I picked up and endured the emotional beatdown her writing gives you. If ever there was truth in advertising with books, Gelique’s are all that. The content is brutal but never salacious for its own sake. I’m never unclear about what is happening. The writing is ALWAYS a model of clarity and very very engaging.
And I’m never anything other than completely terrified about what the next word on the page will bring.
Hillary Book One was no different. It’s another series I am anxious to get back to. It tells you the story of Hillary, a poor young girl who’s enduring some pretty monstrous conditions and experimentation upon her. You think, man the guys that are doing this to her a MAJOR JERKS. And they are.
But as the book goes on, you realize Hillary is not all what she seems. At first, Then you learn more. And then
No big surprise that Hillary gets out of the horrible confinement. I find Angel Gelique’s work interesting because nobody is really “a good guy” type of protagonist. But I definitely feel connected.
So once Hillary gets out of the confinement, the stuff hits the fan in a big way. Does she just run away?
Hillary 1 is an engaging book, but heed the warnings that the author puts on it and the reviews mention too. It may not be for everyone but if you can take it, you will get another volume from a very talented writer in my opinion.

I read this because Shelby told me to. Well, not really. Actually, I’m pretty certain she tried to do the exact opposite, but I’m a glutton for punishment so I read it anyway. What did I find upon clicking the old Amazon one-click?

Yep, that about sums it up. This book is completely f-ed up. The only thing I can think to compare it to when it comes to the gross-out factor is:
I’m giving this 3 Stars, because I’m completely befuddled on how to rate this book. I’ve never read anything like it before (and doubt I’ll actively seek out anything like it in the future). EDIT: I TOTALLY ACTIVELY SEEK OUT BOOKS LIKE THIS ON THE REGULAR NOW. OH WHAT A DIFFERENCE A FEW MONTHS CAN MAKE! On story alone, it might have earned 3.5, but with a “meh” title (I would never have even noticed this book were it not for my Goodreads friends reading it), confusing cover art, and enough typos to make me take note I can only give it 3.
Completely worthy of the Van Der Beek barf gif. Read at your own risk.

I like to mix up my diet of classic horror with material from new writers whenever I get a break in my reading, amd I've seen a lot of rave reviews for this work from friends on Goodreads, so I figured I'd check it out.
This is the first book in a trilogy.
I have to preface this review by saying that I'm a primarily story-driven reader. I like to get swept up in a plot that takes me to places I never dreamed I'd go when I started. I guess I like surprises when I read.
So it's my fault that I assumed the plot of this book was going to have a big reveal, a major twist that would blow my mind and make everything I'd read be seen in a whole new light. The cryptic, Memento-type first chapters certainly helped bolster the idea that everything was not as it seemed.
But it was.
And I say this not to spoil the plot (I don't believe I have), but to set proper expectations for readers interested in checking out this title. To me, this book was about torture and gore, and not a whole lot else. And I feel that it suceeded in a achieving that goal magnificently. If you're looking for torture/exploitation porn, you've truly hit the jackpot here. The torture scenes were genuinely twisted, churning and original in their horrors. The prose is sparse and efficient.
But torture is the main attraction here, as throughout the entire book the action primarily exists within the confines of a single room, the plot only advancing a single step to the left near the end. Without a a single truly sympathetic character (it's hard to be sure where your sympathies should lie, as the POV continuously shifts through the narrative), I suspect you may find yourself watching the horrors unfold with more bemusement than terror for the individuals involved. Suspension of disbelief is required at a certain point, but that's not a major issue with the overall hard-to-swallow premise upon whcih the story is founded. I don't believe total realism was the intention.
Ultimately, the gore-to-plot ratio was too off-kilter for my tastes, but that's just me. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for hardcore, creatively disgusting mutilation and bloodletting. Definitely not for the squeamish.
3.5 stars for successfully starting a new reign of blood, but only for fans of this genre with a taste for non-stop slicing and dicing. (rounded up to 4 stars on Goodreads)

This is unequivocally the most galling and sadistic book I have ever read. What's more perturbing is how engrossing it was and how much I actually enjoyed it.
This engaging story will have you on the edge of your seat one moment, rooting for some, only to have you despising them later.
The story line and characters are brilliantly thought out. It plays out like a horror movie of the worst kind. The mental images you are sure to conjure in your mind, will with out a doubt, haunt your dreams for some time. I have to wonder how this will affect my dreams.
This is NOT for the faint hearted or for those with a weak stomach, as this will certainly make you nauseous. I am neither, so it's on to book two for me.

Not gonna lie, I kept putting this off due to the terrible cover and despite reading Man Cave (which is one of the most brutal books I’ve ever read, loved it!) I probably would’ve bypassed Hillary if it wasn’t for some fellow readers giving me FOMO. Overall I enjoyed it, the first half of the book was starting to get a little tedious but then shit hits the fan. I definitely wanted and expected more but I guess that’s why there’s two more books in the trilogy. I’ve already read the prologue for book two and woah! Angel Gelique writes brutality extremely well.

What the fuuucccckkkk did I just read!?!?!?
I'm still not sure how I want to rate this book, so I've listed a few different rating stars below. This is a book that I normally wouldn't read but I was craving something different and I got exactly that. I read the warning and still wanted to read it. I read the blurb and was interested and intrigued.

Please don't be detoured by my rating. This was a very well written book with a fantastic storyline. My rating is based on content and my personal comfort level. This book is not for everyone and I thought about stopping 3 or 4 times but I wanted to see this through. I'm happy that I did but my journey was a horrific trip through the mind of a psychopath. Think about a cross between Silence of the Lambs, Freeway I and II, Jeffrey Dahmer, American Psycho and Twilight Zone all wrapped in one little scary book. This was a mind fuck like I've never experienced.
Fifteen year old Hillary Greyson wakes up form a nightmare only to realize that she really is in a nightmare. She is alone, naked and strapped to a bed. She has no memory of who she is, how she got to be where she's at and has completely lost her memory. She soon discovers that she's at the mercy of Dr. Morrison, Monica and Dr. Bentley. Are they real doctors? Are these people really here to help Hillary? Or are these people psychotic and bent on torturing a teenage girl? How long will her nightmare last?
At 4% in I was already pretty grossed out and woke my husband up in the middle of the night say "Oh my GOD! What the FUCK!!!
At 12% the POV switched so much I was thoroughly confused as to who I was reading.
At 15% I was begging for no pedophilia. And Monica has some seriously fucked up morals. I'm paraphrasing here but it was pretty much like this; "Oh, it's totally fine to use a child for unethical science experiments but I draw the line inappropriate touching." Really?
"He was conflicted between his intense yearning to touch her and his duties as a professional doctor... not to mention his marital vows."
At about 50% in shit really starts happening. I thought I had a hard time at the beginning... well Im about to get a lollipop triple dipped in psycho.
At 71% is where I almost threw in the towel. I had to take breaks and almost put it down for good. This is just so fucked up and twisted and downright evil.

I feel the following can be best described in a series of gifs.
Overall, it was a great book. It took me to a place I've never gone before and I'm not sure I can go again. I need a therapist a priest a shower and a Disney movie STAT! I wanted to read with my eyes closed, it made me cringe and loose my appetite. Only a great author can pull this much emotion out of me. So bravo Angel Gelique! Bravo! At this point I don't think I can finish the series. I may come back to it later down the road but for now I have to put my melted brain back together.

The first 50% of this book was the calm before the storm. We meet Hillary a fifteen year old girl who has no memories of her life. She's being held by Dr. Morrison, his wife Monica and Dr. Bentley. I sympathized with Hillary and felt terrible about the way she was treated until...
The last 50% of this book was a gruesome bloodbath, gore fest, the stuff nightmares are made of that makes you afraid to walk alone at night, and you sleep with the light on. Imagine Jeffrey multiplied by 100.

If you're a fan of horror, torture and generally enjoy fucked up shit, then this is right up your alley. If you're a chicken like me, and sleep with the lights on you may want to stay far away from this. The author's warnings should definitely be taken seriously. This is not for those with easily upset stomachs. There's a part of the book, where the title clicks and it all makes sense, after reading it all I wanted to do was cuddle my puppy.
I'm off to eat some ice cream and read some smutty romance to recover from this.

The old adage of never judge a book by its cover should also apply to its summaries. Hillary: Tail of the Dog is by far the darkest, heinous and most disturbing read for 2016. This isn’t your typical feel good love story with an erotic twist.
You won’t find any happy, wholesome loving relationships or endings. Nope not here, instead you’ll be horrified with disgusting, gruesome events that takes place with a fifteen year old. You’ll experience her nightmares, traumas as the past collides with the present.
Angel Gelique takes you on a hellish journey where the vile twists and turns leave you gasping, "what next?" This read isn’t for the feint of heart or those with triggers. Even a seasoned pro such as myself was stupefied in this climatic five star read! ENJOY!

So this promised to be the most gruesome and horrific story, the 5 star fan girl reviews paint it as chilling and gut-wrenchingly graphic.
My thoughts:
The idea that a psychopath could be cured is an interesting one, one that could spawn a great number of intriguing and horrific tales, but alas, Hillary's tale is anything but.
The writing is clunky and juvenile, littered with repetition and superfluous adverbs and adjectives. It is also written in a way that places the reader at a distinct distance from the story.
For those who can't stomach the gore, this might be a good thing, but for me it just served to make this story bland and withdrawn.
The first half was long and boring and really didn't need to be spelled out like it was. The meandering way it plodded on only further removed me from the story instead of giving background and encouraging empathy for the characters.
I seriously questioned the plausibility of some of the events, particularly in the second half of the book.
I liked no one in this book, they were all superficial and cardboard cut out characters with zero believability.
This book was meant to be horrifying, and it was, but purely for the reason that it was poorly executed (pun not intended) and not for the horrific things that transpired.
The story needs a serious edit, to cut the waffling and repetition, but also to catch the numerous errors and grammatical issues.
There were also a number of continuity issues:
57% - Dr Morrison (Bentley) grabbed the longest remaining rope...
73% - replaced a screwdriver in the bag when she had the coat hanger.
74% - corkscrew was already on the bed not in the bag
91% - jugular severance would result in spurting blood, not dripping blood.
If you're planning to offer up gruesome and grotesque go hard or go home...
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone. The content was graphic simply for the sake of shock value and offered zero in the way of progressing the plot. This seriously missed the mark.
I won't be reading anything by this author again. I implore you, dear reader, don't waste your time!

This is by far the scariest, the most gory, mentally traumatizing book I've EVER read. As disturbed as I was, I loved it. Pay close attention to the warning the author puts out! If anyone is easily offended then don't even open the pages. I literally need to read book 2 right now!

There's a very clear disclaimer that states, in effect, beware, for gross things are about to happen. I read this, understood, and took it to heart. Gross is fine. This book series, though, is a little less than fine.
Shock value is one thing. This book series is aimed at the fans of Ellis's "American Psycho", and those who think the film "Hostel" is a fun Saturday night with popcorn. The literary style is fine, and the skill of the author equally capable, ie. not dribbling over themselves and writing in crayon. The language is high, the grammar completely feasible. But then there's the subject matter. And the author fell face first not into wanting to shock for the hell of it, but merely because that's the only thing the books have going for them.
I read the prequel first, "Hillary: Flesh and Blood", and you kind of have to, in order to truly understand what's going on. Otherwise this one just reads as a bent kidnapping/torture sequence. Book One: baby is 15, wakes up tied to a bed in a doctor's home, and is visited by the doctor, his wife, and a shrink. Baby is suffering from almost complete memory loss, and begins to remember the events of the prequel very...very...very slowly. The reader never quite realizes when she gets to full capacity; one minute she's whining about something (she whines a lot), and the next minute,
There was a chance here to take the subject matter and elevate it: an exploration of the exact nature of a serial killer, it's triggers, whether she had it in her to be so cold and merciless at the start or did her father truly create her, etc. But Gelique never rises above, content to take the b-movie craptastic gorefest further and further down torture porn lane. There's nothing here to appreciate, really. No villain you would love to see succeed and triumph to butcher another day; no hero who succeeds against all odds and missing limbs. Absolutely no one in the books at all are even slightly likeable. (Note: I even hated the dog in the prequel. The likeability of these characters is that bad.)
To sum up, I didn't hate this book. I read it all the way through. I wrinkled my nose a bit at the obvious delight the author displayed when having Hillary But I did finish; hell, I read them both. Would I do it again? No. Will I read the last in the trilogy? If it were sitting on my desk, probably, but only to watch the "heroine" die. Preferably painfully, brutally, and graphically. Will I buy it or recommend it? Not even.
I appreciate the author exorcised a few demons writing this, and I commend her for the attempt, but also cannot shine a positive light on the work. There's just nothing there that even hints at redemption. I understand and can even condone "eye for an eye", have even considered it every so often, but with writers, as well as with super heroes, with great reader-base comes great responsibility. Someone has to believe somewhere that eventually you get to kill the monster in the closet. Not become it.

Hillary Greyson, just 15 years old, has been kidnapped and is now being experimented on by Dr. Morrison, his wife Monica, and a psychiatrist, Dr. Bentley.
She can't remember who she is or how she came to be naked, strapped to a bed, an unwilling patient. But her captives do and maybe it's best if she never remembers. Some things are best left forgotten.
The writing was surprisingly good. A few errors, but really well done.
The idea was also a good one. The execution though, left a lot to be desired.
The plot, however, was minimal. I was creating scenarios in my head of how she was a vampire or a wolf and has been killing the townsfolk and she wakes us after each transformation with her memory gone and the doctors are running tests to see if she can be cured. Not bad, right? Oh, how disappointed I was to trudge (that might be too harsh) through over half of this read to find out that there was no big "bang!" and no I didn't-see-that-coming moments. It was one long torture-fest which I have to say was over-done. Anyone exercising some demons here?
For a seasoned horror reader this story missed the mark. The fear, dread, and anticipation needed to make this read a truly frightening read was non-existent. The way the author tried to keep the reader in suspense as to why's of why she was really there and what they were doing were, offset by the fact that the scenes of the room and the doctors kept being repeated with only tiny variations which dulled the impact of what was happening for the reader.
The pacing of the first half was slow and never really varied. This was also a problem for me.
This played out like a typical "B" movie where I would be yelling at the screen for the characters for falling for the evil bitch's manipulations and how dumb the doctor was for removing her bonds.
Like I said, the writing was well done, I just wish that there were more twists and a varying pace. There's talent here and I suppose that's why I'm so critical.

Dnf. Not because of the 'shock' factor, or the gore or the horror. The writing was stilted and jerky, with numerous punctuation errors and I was always aware that I was reading a story, instead of losing myself in the words. I found the start of the book confusing in that 'Hillary' doesn't seem to know who she is, but the writer uses her name throughout the story, as if trying to force the name on the reader.
Hillary struggled to remember her last memory and found to her horror that she could not remember who she was, let alone how she ended up in this situation. What was her name?
........
Hillary held her breath, waiting for an answer. Who am I, she wondered.....
errr....Hillary..???
Horror, to me, has to be something believable, something that makes me shudder and feel scared and desperate to find out what happens. To make me read with the lights on, having checked that the doors ARE locked...
And when it came down to it, I just didn't care enough about anyone in the story to invest any more time in reading further.
