He created a pseudonym based on the names of his sister and his sister-in-law: Rajeshwari and Ananthakumar. Prior to writing full-time, Kumar spent five years teaching, with a degree in education from Ramakrishna Vidyalaya. When he grew bored with this, he worked as a sales representative for an industrial rubber goods company.
Kumar's first published story was in 1968 or 1969, in the college magazine of Government Arts College, Coimbatore, where he earned a degree in botany. He has attributed this to a prank by another student, who used Kumar's name when volunteering to submit a story for the magazine; when his professor refused to allow Kumar to back out. The next day he reluctantly submitted "Vaazhndhu Kaatuvom", a love story.
Later that year, he submitted the crime story "Unnai Vidamaatten" to a short story contest in Maalai Murasu; this was the first story for which he was paid. In 1977, his work began appearing in Kumudam, starting with the short story "Idhu Nyayama".
His first novel, "Vaadagaiku Oru Uyir", was published in 1980. He subsequently told of how the editor of Kumudam had seen a porter on a platform at Egmore Railway Station engrossed in one of Kumar's stories. The porter had also forgone customers just to finish the story. It was then that the editor decided to make Kumar write a novel. In 1986, his publisher asked him if he could produce a novel a month; as a result, he became a full-time writer.
As of 2019, Kumar has written over 1500 novels; [dubious – discuss] his son, for whom digitizing the novels into e-books is a full-time profession, has been able to locate around 1,000 of them. He has also written over 2000 short stories, and scripts for over 250 television series, as well as the 2015 film Sandamarutham. He received the Tamil Nadu State government's prestigious 'Kalaimamani' award in 2009.

பெண்பித்து மூர்க்கமாக இருக்கும் உள்ளத்திடம் கருணையை எதிர்பார்க்கலாகாது.
டீ எஸ்டேட்டில் வேலை செய்யும் அண்ணன் வெங்கடேஷ் வாரத்துக்கு ஒருமுறை பணம் கலெக்ஷன் பண்ண கோவை வரும் போது கூடவே வரும் பத்மா, சுசீந்திரனிடம் காதலை வளர்கிறாள். இந்த முறை ஊருக்கு திரும்பி போகும் வேளையில் கையில் இருக்கும் பணத்தை வழிமறித்துக் களவாட ஐந்து பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் முயலும் போது தப்பித்து ஒரு வீட்டில் தஞ்சமடைகின்றனர்.
அவ்வீட்டின் உரிமையாளனும் அவர்களின் ஆள் என்று தெரிந்த பிறகு தப்பிக்கப் போகும் நேரத்தில் உடம்பில் குண்டடிபட்டு வெங்கடேஷ் விழுந்து விடத் தப்பித்துப் போன பத்மா போலீஸுடன் அவ்வீட்டிற்கு வரும் போது இடம் முற்றிலும் மாறியிருக்கிறது,அது மட்டும் போதாமல் பணத்தைத் தூக்கி கொண்டு ஓடிபோயிட்டான் என்ற பழியும் வெங்கடேஷ் மேல் விழுகிறது.
வெங்கடேஷின் முதலாளி அற்புதராஜ் பத்மாவை “வைத்து” கொள்கிறேன் என்று சொன்னதைக் கேட்டு பொறுக்க முடியாமல் வேலையை விடப் பார்த்தவனை மடக்கத் தன் ஆட்களையே ஏவி விட்டுப் பணத்திருட்டை நடத்தியது மட்டுமில்லாமல் குண்டடிபட்டு மறைவாகத் தன்வசம் சிகிச்சையில் இருப்பவனை முழுவதாகக் கொல்லுவேன் என்று பத்மாவிடம் வீரவசனம் பேசும் அற்புதராஜை தன் காதலன் சுசீந்திரன் மூலம் மடக்கி போலீஸில் ஒப்படைக்கிறாள்.

A different kind of writing from his usual crime/thriller narrations by Author 'Rajesh Kumar'. This story is a terrific Thriller which has quite a lot of sadness in the Tale. 'Padma' is the younger sister of Venkatesh who is an employee at a Tea Estate in Ooty. Both are orphans. Venkatesh comes to Coimbatore regularly for office related collection purpose. Padma studies in Coimbatore and has a lover by name Suseendhran. One fine day, their love is revealed to Venkatesh and he accepts both of them gracefully. Things go fine, until a robbery is attempted by few persons on the bus in which Venkatesh and padma travel. Escaping from them, they both take shelter in a bungalow where a old person lives. Later it is found that this person is in link with those robbers and they both escape again. This time, Venkatesh gets hit by a bullet and falls dead. Padma alone escapes and reaches the police station with the help of a lorry driver and his cleaner assistant. When police comes to investigate, the bungalow is neat & clean and has no traces of any blood or human corpse. Rumours afloat that Venkatesh ran away with the collection money. Later Padma is invited to Venkatesh's Owner's house who owns the Tea Estate and other business. He is a big shot. Padma learns from him that he had earlier proposed to Venkatesh to keep Padma as his concubine for which Venkatesh didn't accept. Hence, he devised this whole plan of theft and unfortunate murder of Venkatesh. Padma informs this to her lover Suseendhran and they both plan & nab this Evil Tea Estate Owner with the help of Police.
