Was Lysa’s sacrifice enough to save the Earth? As the enormous spacecraft named Fluffy floats above a stunned Earth, humanity is again thrown into chaos. Humanity thought the Portal Invasion was over. The portals stopped as suddenly as they began, and Earth has barely begun recovering from the terror. If only they could get humanity to stop fighting each other long enough to help save their own necks. The galaxy can open to humanity, if only they can summon the bravery to step through the door. In the thrilling conclusion to the Into The Galaxy duology, unlock the secrets to Hub, Earth’s past, and the future of every living thing on the unique planet, the one and only Earth.
Ann lives by the sea under the benevolent rule of her canine overlord and an incredibly foul-mouthed cat. A scientist and Navy officer by profession, the writing bug somehow got inside her during her travels. She's now stuck with it and can't stop writing.
She writes fully immersive works of science fiction and apocalyptic fiction. Ann is also a voracious reader, and adores a well-done audiobook. If she's not writing, then she's reading or listening.
Really enjoyed this second half of the Portals story. I was pleased it was available so soon after part one.
While present day, hard science fiction is my usual preference, I thought this fantasy was great. A delightful story. I loved all the characters, and the computer AI with the rules they followed were right on the money. The Malleton society in the story was amazing. Such interesting detail, what an imagination the author has. Nice conclusion, as I admit it didn't go as I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised.
The story had lots of funny bits in it, with enjoyable aliens to ponder. I sure laughed out loud when the young girl caught her mom messing around with one of the aliens. This was a very unique book compared to the run of the mill science fiction books of today. Ann Christy is a great story teller.
Like book one, this is written in the first person- the heroine of the story, Lysa. It isn't as "mushy", losing much of the first love 'Jack this' and 'Jack that' that I found made the first book a bit more geared towards teens. It was well written, the author excels at character description, as well as bringing us into "her world". It is void of foul language or sexual situations -suitable for teens to adults! (Refreshing). Easy read - faster paced , some surprises-and yes 👍, I look forward to seeing more adventures from Lysa and friends!
The 2 books in the Portals universe are so well written, and so thrillingly paced that I couldn't stop reading to save my life. I had to know what happened to, and with, these incredible characters. Does the earth survive? Do Lysa and Jack work out? What - or WHO - will Heather become next? OMG Barb and Drives??? Like I said in my first review of the first Portals book: I want to marry Hub. Now I have to add that I want Fluffy to be our child. I really hope this isn't the last book🚀
I absolutely loved this book, and the imagination it took to think all this up is just crazy wonderful!! I needed a break from the sad things I have been reading and all the excitement was just what I needed. Thank you to Ann Christy for your beautiful imagination, thank you for taking the time to write this book and for not making it longer with many cliffhangers, I think it was the right decision also!!!
This conclusion to the, Let's Save Earth tale, is a lot more suspenseful than I thought it would it be. We get to meet new aliens, and see how far a young girl will go to keep her species safe. It really is a story about hope, family and survival. Beautifully crafted, and ended in near perfection. I fully recommend this series, and ALL of Ann Christy's works.
What a great read. This book continued with Lysa’s adventure as we thought she may be dead in a cliff hanger of a first book ending. Hoping against hope she would survive our hope was fulfilled. Although I couldn’t quite work out exactly how she did maybe a paragraph would have helped there I was so pleased she did make it through. In this book Lisa returns to Earth and has to deal with Earth politics and suspicions, meanwhile trying to come up with a plan to save earth from destruction. Through it all this story is well written and the premise of human’s hurting humans contains a real twist. Great story great read.
The writer was described as a great storyteller by another reader and I heartily agree. Another reader of the first book described her writing as vivid and again I totally agree. Her writing provides a level of detail that's uncommon and makes her characters and the story pop to paraphrase another reader and it's totally the case. Another reader says that it's an optimistic approach to humanity's entrance to the wider galaxy, again a paraphrase and I totally agree. Thus is a good series for a broad audience and not at all limited to YA.
This is book paints a galaxy full of life and connects humanity to all of it. The human race isn't conquering the galaxy and isn't the center of all galactic concerns. It is just discovering that it has a lot of neighbors and they all bring something new and valuable to the picnic table. These two books are optimistic about humanity's future, despite some serious challenges.
Aliens come to Earth, not to conquer, colonize it or destroy it. They come to watch, monitor and protect life. To me, that is an incredible mission. A space ship shows up over a Washington suburb by accident. The crew talk to the president because she's close and has good connections to the most of the rest of the world's governments. And it's all because of a family connection to Washington's Virginia suburbs. Washington, D.C. as an accident and a convenience and not as a center of power, is refreshing. I wish more American writers could envision something similar.
The characters alien, human and human-ish all feel real and worth reading about. The twists and turns caught me by surprise. I enjoyed knowing more than some and less than other characters for most of the story. There is danger, intrigue, mystery woven throughout. It held my attention from the start.
I hope that you get the opportunity to read some of this writer's books.
Although this was the book where Earth was saved, I didn’t love it as much as book one. Lysa and her crew of collected alien mates scheme behind the back of their lovely ship, Hub, and the rest of the human race and go it alone against the bad guys. Sure, they’re successful but it felt a little empty. Still, I’d love to read more in this universe which these delightful characters!
This time around the story asks "What makes us, us?" and explores the challenges inherent in making hard decisions. Life is messy and life is risky. If we choose to embrace truly living our lives, we ought to give some thought to being accountable for the decisions we make. One character observes, "We second guess everything and use revisionist history almost as much as actual history" . It is a gentle criticism but no less accurate.
There was less emphasis on the relationship between Lysa and Jack this time and I was disappointed. However, all of the characters we came to know in the first book are back and Heather, in particular, rapidly became a favorite of mine.
The bad guys are bad, but never one-dimensional. And the ending has an interesting twist.
Let's see. Last time (in the first book) we saw Lysa she was dying from the effects of the toxic Kassa atmosphere.
The ship heals here. Now all she has to do is find a way to stop the asteroid that is on a collision course with her, find out who sent it and why, figure out how to stop them, imitate them, infiltrate their highest government level, and prevent Fluffy from doing a suicide run on the asteroid to try to deflect it.
Oh, yes. Also deal with Kassa, who has take on human form, and his relationship with her own mother.
She devises a brilliant solution to their problems, well thought out. Of course, she could still really get Hub angry at her for violating scads of rules, not counting the hostile sort-of but not totally alien race that is out to destroy the Earth.
It is quite refreshing to read a science fiction story that doesn’t base all of the plot on exploding space ships and terrifying BEM’s (bug eyed monsters) but instead based on acceptance of the person and not their appearance, something that we seem to have a real problem with today.. All the characters are indeering, problematic, not working to rid the world of others but changing to change the way they work together.
The chactors are all so easy to bond with and enjoy and the situations that they get in to are fresh. I was really disappointed in that there isn’t a book 3.
I chose this rating because, while the author might not be as polished as some others, the 2 books written by her about the worlds she offers us are delightful and entertaining enough to both keep my attention and be willing to buy the second book. Please be sure I do not intend to Damn with faint praise!! I would absolutely be happy to read another sequel. Keep writing, Ms. Christy!
I enjoy reading science fiction, especially when it involves space travel. It seems most of the books in this genre are filled with amazing amounts of sex and many vulgar words. That was not the same here. This book, and the first one, this being a two book series, was a book I would feel comfortable with my 17 year old daughter reading as they were written with wholesome family type values. I highly reccomend this book!
Fun read and a satisfying conclusion to Book One! I really appreciate an author who can manage to conclude a story without endless the serialized cliff-hanging so common today. Still, I'd be happy to see the story continue with a new crisis for the intrepid teens to handle.
This book is everything I could possibly want! It has incredibly well developed characters, a unique and engaging plot, and a wealth of fascinating world building. Please read this amazing series!
Great story. Great characters. Lots of action. And the kind of AI you want in your home (without your paranoid wife knowing). I like the books that, just maybe, it could be true! Truly a fun read!!
I've read both books in the 'Duology' and have to say was enthralled, good characters and a riveting story, I really do hope this isn't the end of our friends adventures.
Engaging examination of species and life in the grand universe.
It was an entertaining read based on some clever concepts concerning other species on other worlds. Wasn't transparent as to what was going to happen to the protagonist.
Love the characters. The storyline is so much like what iv imagined I would do if I had a spaceship. Lol. The writing is uncomplicated and fun. Some cool ideas and it makes you think about what you really know..
This was a good read. Ms. Christy's writing was excellent, very few typos. I was along for the ride, as if I was there. It did drag a little in the middle, hence the 4 stars, but we'll worth your time.
This was a wonderful read. I loved watching the characters develop. Great job. I really hope there is, or will be, a continuation with these characters. Such a fun mix ! Thank you.
