Anastasia Larson, a young girl with Asperger's Syndrome, is about to start her first day of high school. However, she soon discovers that she has awoken a magical ability. She and her friend, Fletcher, are thrown into a hidden world where other people with special needs have powers too. She soon realises that there are a few obstacles in the way to find out who she truly is.
Born with Mild Cerebral Palsy and later diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in June of 2008. J.J. has a passion for all things fantasy. He hopes to continue writing novels that inspire people with Special Needs to believe in themselves.
Inner Reflection is a fun, chaotic, middle grade adventure with a lot of heart. I love that JJ Fryer has created a magical world where people with special needs have special powers. “Your power is connected to your emotions. All autist people have control over the weather like you do.” Young Anastasia is a girl with Aspergers, who is nervous about starting her first day at a new school. Little does she know she’s about to dive head first into a world of magic. Given my son, RJ, has Aspergers I really enjoyed reading from Anastasia’s point of view. What makes this even more interesting, is that the author JJ has Aspergers, which means it’s written from a genuine autistic perspective. From walking, talking trees and Mother Nature herself, to mermaids, to witches, and much, much more… This story has a bit of everything to keep the excitement going. My favourite aspect of the story were the portals. “I was poking my head through every portal that I could properly see, deciding where I should go to get breakfast: Rome, Paris, New York, there were too many to choose from.” Can I have these magical portals fitted in my bedroom please .🙏 The possibilities would be endless.
A sweet book with beautiful characters who will stop at nothing to help each other. A fantasy world filled with magic and adventure. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down.
A wonderful depiction of disability with remarkable ability! The story is written with real heart with clear representation that many young people will relate to. Loved all of the magic in this book!
