SCIENCE AND RELIGION are not mutually exclusive. In fact, an examination of the scientific principles behind scripture events and gospel teachings can actually enhance and strengthen our religious beliefs. Join scientist and scholar Scott Frazer as he uses modern scientific discoveries to reinforce doctrinal topics such • The Big Bang and the Creation of the Earth • The Beginnings of Life and the Evolution Debate • Noah’s Ark • The Word of Wisdom Diet • Authorship of the Bible—Who wrote it and when? • How Genetics Challenges our Definitions of Mortal Life STRENGTHEN YOUR TESTIMONY with this compelling exploration of how modern scientific findings align with eternal Latter-day Saint principles.
Look at ya girl, guys. She reads science-y books, she's an educated woman *hair flip* I was nervous about this book going in, since it's WAYYYYY out of my usual genre. I'll be totally honest, I bought this book several years ago with the intention of just keeping it on my book shelf and if some cute boy just so happened to see it he would think I'm super smart and I don't just read sappy romance novels, hehe. BUT, I had the urge to fit it into my line up this month, and I'm so glad I did. Within a few chapters, my mind was blown clear out of the water.
Brother Frazer's directive with this book is to show us that God undeniably exists and using science as a tool to do that rather than what we usually see. Atheists adopt the thinking that science created the universe over the Christian belief that God created the universe. Brother Frazer says, why can't we believe in both? Why not instead believe that God created science and used things like the Big Bang and evolution as tools in his grand creation of the earth and life on it? WHAT?! Science and religion are not opposing ends of a magnet, rather they are simply two sides of the same coin. They compliment and reinforce each other. His ideas are very well researched and explained in simple enough terms that even I, a humble little English major, could understand them. I am very impressed and I will be sharing this book with whoever will listen. 5/5 stars.
Absolutely amazing study on the relationship between science and religion; a must for anyone with questions on how The Big Bang and Evolution fit into a gospel discussion
This book was a little different than I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect that the author would discuss so many specific topics, but appreciated that someone actually "went there" with a lot of science and religious issues that I have pondered for quite some time. It is somewhat apparent that the author is not an author by profession, but only marginally, as the writing is still very readable and the book flows pretty well. I appreciate the insights, and though there are many things we don't and can't know right now (and don't need to just yet), just realizing that we can think differently about many of these supposed "conflicts" is a good thing for sure. A good reminder to keep an open mind and remember that, often, God's ways are not our ways.
In a World Where so many people Believe that it is Either Religion or Science, this book proves that True Science and True Religion cannot exist without one another. what a wonderfully uplifting and even spiritually scientific book this is.
Secularists like to frame the debate of science vs. religion, while casting religion as a primitive, backward, irrational belief system.
This book makes a strong case that when it comes to the LDS faith, there is no conflict between science and religion, in fact they are very compatible.
