When a young corporate, Swati receives a set of envelopes at her office table, she is shocked by its contents. Each envelope has a date and time of its opening written on it. Also, each envelope has a warning message scribbled on it. “Please open this envelope at the time mentioned below your name.” She ignores, tears the first envelope and pulls out the page inside it. She uncovers a thick drawing sheet scratched in the middle with pencil; a hand-written line in the centre of the sheet. “I requested that you open the envelope at 12:30 PM. Envelopes not opened on time will lose their contents. The time right now is 09:00:25 AM” Swati checks her wristwatch and exhales sharply; her wristwatch ticks round to 9:00:25, accurate to the very second. Who sent her those envelopes? What exactly does he or she wants if he doesn’t want Swati to know the future before hand? ---------------------- A Soul is nothing but an energy with a conscious. A wave that can move across space, time and matter. The wave that your mind finally releases when you die. But a few gifted ones have the ability to leave the shackles of mind and return to physical self at will. What if I told you that there are people on this planet that can leave their body and travel the universe as a soul, they can travel both forward and backward in time. Some manipulate the world for their own selfish interest & a few devour themselves with the responsibility to harmonize and protect the world. The question is, are you sure such people don’t exist? -------
The theme of the book checks all the boxes for me. It has time travel, ancient mysteries, social message and dilemmas, biblical feuds, protected secrets, romantic arc (which I'm hoping to be more developed in the next book). The author creates a world that lies between humans and souls where the characters Arjun and Swati wind up fighting evil humans and soul reapers to protect the world and their loved ones. But Arjun has more to do apart from saving his sister. He has greater responsibilities that lead him to uncover the mysteries of the Universe and time travel. I enjoy reading this sci-fi a lot and definitely recommend it.
Time Guard – The Awakening is the first book of the series. It is a fiction story based on time travel. The story is about Arjun, whose soul can travel through time and is on a mission.
The story is a medium-paced suspense story but my main complaint is errors. There are too many errors which could have been avoided during editing/printing. Since it is the first book of the series nowhere was it mentioned till the end of the book, which is a bit misleading. Though the pace of the initial few chapters was slow, it becomes an interesting read in later ones. The characters are well described and the blurb gives an interesting insight into the story. The book is a nice mix of time travel, mythology, suspense, and relationships.
Writing is a tool that gives us the power to imagine and reimagine but there are concepts etched in our universe which do hold true to some extent. And dwelling on one such concept is Anmol Batra in his novel Time Guard.
The novel follows the story of Swati who has received some suspicious letters. These letter ought the be opened at a particular time and on a particular day. This confuses her. What follows is the chase to unearth this mystery.
The novel is over 200 pages and can be read in a single sitting. We say so because this one is a pageturner and will keep you hooked till the end. It explores the concept of teleportation. And with much dexterity the author blends science with Hindu myth. The language is quite lucid and the book is fast paced. The thriller is sufficiently peppered throughout the novel and the author even infuses the Indian socio-political situations to add an edge to the story. With detailed description of the events, characters and situations, the author easily paints the picture on the canvas of our minds.
Overall, we think if you like thriller, mythfic, or/ and mystery you ought to pick up this book. This book holds potential to be made into a series.
From the very first pages I found the book engaging as things were happening so fast. The characters gripped me and I couldn’t put down the book.
Best moments in the book?
The scenes that lead to the female lead realizing the powers of the protagonist were filled with a sense of thrill and tension. After the revelation, the path both decides to take increases my interest on the plot line up a notch.
I loved the haunting dream sequences which were descriptive and had the desired impact on me.
The final showdown of the protagonist with his enemies; the mental battle escalating to a surprising revelation
And, although certain scenes were being repeated to carry out the story forward it did not seem tiresome to me. Actually, it helped in understanding the going – ons and capture the missing elements.
But, coming to the matter of missing elements, there were many characters whose origin or fate remained unknown. Moreover, the end of the book seemed abrupt with introduction to many new concepts that remained unexplained. Maybe it will be expressed in the next book in the series; ‘Time Guard II: Reborn’.
Another drawback while reading the book was the presence of a few grammatical mistakes which should have been corrected while editing the book. Also, sometimes, the appropriate words were not used; thus, the author was not able to express a few situations accurately.
Other than that, I enjoyed the narration. The character of Zaffar was pitiable and that of Howrang admirable. When Arjun rose to space, I traveled with him across places. Overall, there were some plus points as well as some minus points making it a book that I liked but not loved. Hoping for the next one in the series to change this opinion. However, there were certain factors within the book that I did love -
What I loved the most?
I loved the overall idea behind ‘Time Guard’ The author took an interesting concept and weaved it into a story of suspense and adventure.
I also liked the illustrations along with the prose that helps in visualizing the plot line.
Also, I loved the way the author introduced the different ideas from Science, Mythology and the supernatural, explaining the proposed theories so that the readers are not lost in the narrative.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would recommend it to anyone interested in a fiction based on Astral Projection and Time Manipulation.
The software professional turned author Amol Batra's "Time Guard: The Awakening" is a remarkable and beautifully written story set in different time zones and it has salient features of its own. Unlike the mainstream fiction writing, the novel seems an amalgam of science-fiction and fantasy. It has elements of mystey, suspense, thrill and imagination. He manages to club different styles of writing together and create an altogether different kind of writing of his own. The fact that it is based on time travel and teleporting makes it a science-fiction text and the mode the author has expressed to make time travel possible is what comprises the fantasy element. At the same time the author has cleverly explored other themes and subjects side by side. These subjects include human relationships, workplace issues, stress, worries, anxieties, importance and love for and towards family. The way the author has begun the novel is intriguing and holds the attention of the reader by introducing the element of mystery. Very artistically, he unravels the mystery at the right time and hence not testing the reader's patience too much. This indicates that Batra is knowledgeable about the reader's psychology and patience. Since the author has experience of corporate life, it is vividly reflected in the initial stages of the book which gives a glimpse of corporate life to an outsider from the perspective of a female. Also, he has successfully portrayed and described life in the capital city. What is remarkable is that he has gone beyond the dimension of his experience and explored and narrated aspects of time travel which only a person with a fertile imagination can do. Also, the author has skillfully used images here and there throughout the book to demonstrate what he had been saying all along and attempts to ignite the reader's imagination. So, even the readers who have a bit difficulty in understanding the author's idea, the images serve the purpose. It can also be said that the usage of images concretizes whatever the reader had imagined on the basis of the author's words. The character depiction and development by the author is also a salient feature of the book. He has individually built up life-like characters who appear to have targets, issues and problems of their own in their respective lives. He has taken up building characters from both the genders and none of them appear flat infront of the other. They are strong, emotional and dynamic which makes them look like all the more living and breathing. From the cover of the book, the reader begins making wild guesses of the subject and plotline of the book. The reader does manage to reach the point but still not exactly clear what the book is going to be about. It seems like a man who is looking at the city from a height which makes him seem like a superhero. He holds his fist in the air which implies that he is on a mission or has a specific purpose in mind or has to do something and is keeping himself focused on that. The blurb of the book gives quite an idea of the plotline and the manner in which the events are to unfold but still the author manages to keep the mysterious element and keep the main plot under wraps for some time. With all this, he also explores subjects like international politics, terrorism, smuggling of drugs and the people who do that. A noticeable feature of the book is the timeline the author has created to write the book. The reader keeps going back to the dates the author has mentioned to connect the events as he narrates which makes it become a page-Turner for everyone. This is a commendable talent of the author. By the usage of this timeline technique, the author simultaneously explores different plots which go parallel and progress. For science fiction lovers, the book serves as a treat. For the ones who are fascinated by the idea of time travel, the book is worth a read. For the ones who simply want to read a new story with different ideas, the book will fulfill the purpose. So for almost all age groups and for all categories of readers, reading the book can be a good experience. In his first book, the author has emerged as a master of plotline as he manages to balance a diverse category of points and features and all keeps the plotline as tight as needed. The book could have been written at the proportions of an epic but the fact that it is short becomes the biggest asset of the book. This can give a hint to anyone of the potential the author has and also and idea of the promising writer he can turn out to be in the future.
Time Guard – The Awakening by Anmol Batra is a book about the protagonist Arjun’s ability to travel as a soul both backward and forward in time. Do people like him exist in this world? Have you ever come across someone like Arjun or heard a time-travel story?
Swati, a young corporate when receives a few letters during her office hours mentioning the exact date and time to open them, she is shocked to the core. Some letters include a few sketches about the happenings in her life at the exact time when she is asked to open those envelopes. Upon finding the truth about the person responsible behind those envelopes is Arjun, her junior in the office and the reason behind sending those letters to her, she agrees to help him in the journey to save his sister Ankita from a life-threatening situation.
The plot simultaneously covers various aspects like insights about human relationships and socio-political situations during the timeline mentioned in the story. How certain mishaps could be avoided in this world if a person can see the future and skilfully uses this ability is also fairly narrated in this book. I found the sketches included in various chapters to be very helpful in understanding the plot in a better way.
I read this book cover to cover in one sitting as the story-line is fast-paced and intriguing with every chapter unfolding the mystery. I could teleport to the exact scene while reading about it, the narration is quite impressive and the writing style of the author is very descriptive. Anmol Batra, the author knows how to keep the reader hooked onto the plot without any hindrances. In my opinion, this book has the potential to be sold to a big publishing house and gain fame. However, the only hindrance I feel being a self-published book is the poor editing and the size of the font which makes it a little difficult to continue with enthusiasm.
The way the story-line of Time Guard - The Awakening reaches its end with leaving the space for the second part of the series to fill is very appreciative. I would be waiting for the second part to get published soon.
Time Guard: The Awakening is the debut novel written by the author Anmol Batra and its a truly intriguing and gripping story.
The story starts with a catchy and grasping storyline, which the author Anmol Batra has written in a lucid and exciting manner.
I liked as the storyline started with mystery, suspense, excitement, the author Anmol Batra has maintained the flow throughout the book, and it kept getting better and better.
The highlight of the book is the storyline, which is amazing to read and the author Anmol Batra has written it in a very creative and imaginative way. The characters are well developed and there expressions and emotions are expressed perfectly.
I liked how the letters were given importance, with that I could also feel the confusion and curiosity at the same time along with the character, to open it, or to just throw it. Throughout the story, there are many things that will amaze you and will make you gasp. Also, the sketches drawn in between some chapters were beautifully drawn. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Overall a truly amazing, interesting, and must-read book. I will highly recommend this book to others. So if you are looking for a book that will make take you to a whole new excitement and adventure, with interesting and never forgetting storyline then click here and read now Time Guard: The Awakening written by the author Anmol Batra.
Book Title: Time Guard: The Awakening (21st Century Book 1) Author: Anmol Batra Format: Kindle
Book Title: The title of the book ' Time Guard: The Awakening (21st Century Book 1) ' is riveting and elusive.
Book Cover: The cover image of the book is a photograph of a superhero looking towards the city. It can be derived he is a savior.
About the author: Anmol Batra is a software professional turned author. This is the first book in the series. It is a fiction story based on time travel. The author now is presently working on the second book which is named Time Guard II - Reborn. The prequel to Time Gaurd I. The Second Story is more focused on Hirath, the banished soul reaper and the main villain for Time Guard - 21st Century Series.

My review: This book ' Time Guard: The Awakening ' by Anmol Batra is a fiction work based on time travel, teleporting, mystery and suspense elements. As the blurb says, one fine day a woman receives mysterious envelopes that are marked with specific timestamps to open. The envelopes also create a mystery in her mind as the sender knows everything about her. Like the butterfly effect, by the time this woman receives the envelopes form some anonymous person, a doctor gets missing and a player from Pakistan in the Common Wealth Games gets arrested. None of the victims have any clue about what is happening. As mentioned the phrase ' the butterfly effect ' all these three incidents are interconnected though not apparent.
To be very honest the story starts at a very low pace. One has to be very patient to absorb the story to experience a thrilling narration as the story progresses.
As the book is based on the time travel concept, one has to be very watchful for the little details the author would be providing in his work. Especially the front and back of the timeline, the imagination and the visualization of teleporting are a matter of interest. If the reader is not familiar with the time-traveling concept, the book may be felt absurd.
With many characters, the story takes U-turns and the back turns and lots of twists the book seems to be a great game. Though unsettling, once the story's soul is caught the reader finds the book fascinating. With some knowledge, I have on time travel and teleporting I found the book a very interesting one. The characters of Arjun and Zaffar long with Swati are totally worth briefing about.
Arjun's character is well etched with great enthusiasm whereas Zaffar's on a low note. Swati in a key role happens to be a central part of the story most of the time. The kidnapping episode, the revealing of the common enemy sequences between Arjun and Zaffar are written well.
What I like: 1. A novel concept in the plot line 2. The small sketches in between the story that explain what is happening are nice. 3. Brilliance in narration 4. At some places, the artistic tough on Hindu Mythology added beauty. 5. As a reader, one can travel to many places with the characters in the story.
What I didn't like: The editing and printing errors must have been taken care of as they are a matter of concern.
Characters: There are both main characters and secondary characters. The characters of both antagonist and protagonist are drafted well. The character portrayal is worth appreciating but there are few drawbacks like the sudden appearance and disappearance of a few characters from the many in the story. I hope these missing details will be incorporated in the second book if they have a role. Other than this, the details with which characters are built is really well.
Narration: As this is a book that has combined themes of emotion, time-travel, sci-fi adventure, and drama, the narration must be a strong one. The author has sustained the reader's interest in every context and thus made the book a compelling and nice one. With some setbacks, the book definitely is a page-turner for such highly imaginative conceptual book lovers.
Language & Grammar: Simple and easy language is used in the story. At many places, word and grammar errors played the role of speed breakers during the reading. Though irritating, because of the elements in the story which are gripping, finishing the book was an interesting and herculean task.
My Final Verdict: Enthusiastic and interesting
Book Title: 3/5 Book Cover: 3/5 Plot: 3/5 Characters: 3/5 Narration: 3/5 Language & Grammar: 2/5 Final Rating: 3/5
Its a fast paced, easy to read thriller, fun to read... Merging old (concepts from Indian/ Hindu mythology) with new (scientific facts and current socio-political environment in Indian subcontinent), this is an excellent effort by a budding writer and promises a lot more exciting reads in the future. The research work done by the writer for this first installment, is clearly visible on the pages of Time Guard - The Awakening - the concept seems to have an excellent potential to becoming a series of books, delving deep into the plot & characters introduced.
The story twitches with Pakistani athlete trafficking drugs to India and gets detained, thrown in Tihar lockup and then escapes.
It’s all about time, Swati Sharma must now find envelopes and open it right at the time cited and the story goes laterally.
So it’s all about time travel now that you have understood the plot of the book mentioned in the blurb. I have not read many books of time travel as such, but I could re-count time travelling in flicks like Predestination, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Primer. One of the books that I admire is “The Time Machine” by H.G Wells and my fresh read Dark Matter by Blake.
To be frank, this is Anmol unveiling book, but the pieces of literature say otherwise. Anmol has written this handsomely and literature inside is a clinger. ‘The Awakening ‘is the foremost book of Time Guard series. The subsequent book would be ‘Time Guard 2- Reborn’.
Time Travel construing is an art and this book explicitly needs you to be in the moment, check out the time and date so that you can digest it well else you will mislay yourself in a labyrinth. There were times when I went back to check the time noted in the book just to be certain. The format of the date, time and place have abetted the book though out.
The book is filled with turns and these spirals are hefty and sometimes intricate. They’re daunting at first, but eventually a foundation of travel respite. There are many resplendently over-the-top actions sequences throughout the book
I loved the portrayal of Arjun and Swathi. I also liked the small sketches in between the reads to give this book more pictorial plea and to comprehend the story well.
This book may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are into make-believe, magical realism, science novels and more importantly time travel- then this book is a must-read.
This book is so captivating and thrilling that I read it in one go. Time guard is a suspense thriller which has many fold narrative.
It is a fiction work based on time travel, teleporting, mystery and suspense elements. This is story of Arjun and his unique abilities . A corporate woman , Swati received few letters with specific instructions to open them. A young doctor went missing ,and a Pakistani shooter caught drug peddling in india. How these events are co related and what is Time Guard ,this story revolves around these. This is a story full of thrill and suspense .The events keep happening . The language is flawless and easy to read . The narration is many fold and medium paced. This is a book that has combined themes of emotion, time-travel, sci-fi adventure, and drama, you have to keep eye on menial details. The cover is mysterious and blurb doesn't reveal much . The story is strong and characters are impactful. The author has done in depth research about time guard and drug peddlers, and their modus operandi. This story will leave a deep impact on you and left you longing for more. An Enthralling Read !!
Time Guard: The awakening is Anmol Batra's debut book that brings a spicy mix of mystery, thriller and suspense with a teleportation capable, time travelling hero to the readers.
A woman receives mysterious envelopes to be opened at specific times with the sender knowing her future actions in advance, a doctor disappears from work and a Pakistani player set to participate in the Commonwealth Games is arrested. So many random incidents with normal people seemingly unconnected to each other are put forth by the author. You keep deliberating how they are connected and what is the mystery but you need to have patience because though the story starts slow, it soon picks up pace and the picture starts to get clearer.
I enjoyed the novelty of the concept and the admirable way in which the author weaved his concept into a story. The book has everything from mystery to suspense to a superhero like protagonist to the blend of Hindu mythology in the story.
The writing is lucid and crisp with beautiful sketches of the events thrown in to make the story more realistic.
I enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in the Time Guard series.
The only point that I think needs improvement is the slow start. The story doesn't make sense as a whole until a few chapters with events seeming disconnected and rapidly changing locations with different characters. The readers will have to be patient and persevere for the first few chapters until the story starts connecting to give a clear picture.
All in all, Time Guard: The Awakening is a promising debut by Anmol Batra that had me travelling places as the story progressed. I enjoyed reading this book that is so pleasantly different from the other books that I have recently read. Njkinny recommends this book to anyone and everyone looking for story that is engrossing, entertaining and a whole lot different from the usual books in the market.
4 stars out of 5 to Time Guard: The Awakening by Anmol Batra and I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.
Brimming with characters, concepts and ideas that challenge the readers imaginative power, the novel – Time Guard: The Awakening has various genres combined to provide a single representation of a wonderful concept.
The story is run parallely between 3 leads Swati, Zaffar and Arjun in present day India and Pakistan whose lives intertwine to unveil new developments. A lot of events described in this book is a bold attempt to the abstract details of a big idea by Anmol and it doesn't go noticed. The rest of the time he writes about a life that staggers on the edge. He produces an Astral time traveling idea as opposed to the entire body like in the time travellers wife and is something to read about. This novel so marvelously encouraged: the chance to use our imagination. That’s the positive of any science-fiction concepts where the most evocative descriptions with concrete images are painted vividly. The author tries to end the book with a cliff hanger, which was a bit of a hit and a miss. He took a quantum leap forward in providing visuals that helped paint a clear picture without being a drag. Plus, for the number of pages, the book was surprisingly quick without missing a beat on the flow of the story-line. An added excitement to this was combination of sci-fi/mythology, thriller and time travel amongst other things. Keep your expectations in check, and you will be amazed.
Despite such bold choices with the concepts as a time traveler weaving mythological and current day politics, there is a missing emotional connection and trowel over huge plot holes.
It all adds up to one good time-travel novel since a while that has seized something wonderful. The closer you get to understanding, the more mysterious it becomes. He has written a deeply conceptualized book.
I liked it for the ideas and for the characters but not for the plotting. Nevertheless, I look forward to read the sequel hoping to find some answers.
Time Guard - The Awakening by Anmol Batra is a supernatural/sci-fi thriller based in India. It’s the first book in the series and sees the journey of the protagonist, from a carefree youth to a responsible protector of the Earth.
Zaffar, a young gifted archer from Pakistan is caught smuggling drugs into India on the occasion of the Common Wealth Games of 2010. Due to some corrupt officials, he is first let off only to be humiliated and put into jail later. He swears revenge when he escapes a couple of years later. Arjun is a young man in the city of New Delhi. Harrowed by the kidnapping of his sister, he teams up with an unlikely person, Swati, who also happens to be his boss and embarks on the journey of bringing his sister back to safety. Unknown to either of them, both Zaffar and Arjun have a common enemy, one who is trying to use them for his good, and at their expense. But for them, they are each other’s enemy. Will they overcome their short-sightedness and see the shadow lurking in the dark? Will they, after knowing the truth, be ready to accept their fate or turn a blind eye?
So, it’s been ages since I wrote any review despite all the reading. Why? Because I thought sometimes a book should only be read, for fun, for entertainment, and for one's own self. But now, am back in business after a rather long break and reviewing again. Written in the present tense, the book could have done better with thorough editing and subsequent polishing. The plot is simple and revolves around a singular goal. All other subplots converge to the main plot though it doesn’t seem evident in the beginning. There are a number of other characters other than the mains, and their arcs are dubious. Their origins and ends aren't justified and a few of them seemed unnecessary. Same goes with a few other things in the story. While they are introduced and keep recurring, it seemed that they would serve a purpose later, which unfortunately they don’t, and all is lost. While reading the book, I felt as if I was reading a screenplay rather than a novel. The scenes were moving in my head like that of a movie. The descriptions were that of a video/audio and not of the written word. Coming to the relationships between the characters, I must say that despite the leads being built well, their camaraderie felt imposed and sudden. Instead of being built gradually, it was as if each was waiting for it to happen and jumped into it. What I liked about the book was its pace and the fact that it can easily be made into an audio-visual, a series or a movie maybe. There wasn’t a stagnant moment in the whole 200+ pages story. Another thing that is commendable is the in-depth analysis and the research that has been done in regards to the protagonist’s abilities and its explanation though I would have liked it to be explained in a little more simpler manner. But then, not all are as technologically challenged like me. Also, the author’s ability to take a timeworn ability and use it as a superpower in the 21st century in the current stressful setting of social and political environments deserves a thumbs up. A one time read this book is recommended for thriller lovers and those who like supernatural and sci-fi stories.
If you love suspense thrillers like me, then Time Guard : Awakening is the book that you shouldn't miss.
The protagonist Swati receives a set of envelopes. Each envelop is marked with date and time when it is to be opened. The envelopes open a new world for Swati.
The book is a unique combination of science fiction and fantasy. I loved the way the author brings on board everything – India mythology, science and socio-political scenario. What I liked is the way the author has adroitly weaved all this together to give us a blockbuster.
The success of any thriller depends on its pace and the Time Guard succeeds on this count as well. It is extremely well written and is fast paced. I am sure once you start reading it, you will be so intrigued that you wont put the book down until you have completed it. The characters are well sketched and real to life.
This is the first book in the series. I am so impressed from the first installment that I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come. Just buy this book, you will enjoy it.
The author challenges the readers to think outside the box and imagine a scenario where Astral Projection may be used by the gifted few to influence the mass for their own benefits or the ones who practice it for the benefit of the World.
The end of ‘Time Guard: The Awakening’ seemed abrupt with the introduction to many new concepts that remained unexplained. Maybe, these will be cleared in the next book in the series; ‘Time Guard II: Reborn’.
This book may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are into make-believe, magical realism, science novels and more importantly time travel- then this book is a must-read.
I got about 60% through this one before I abandoned it. My reason for picking this book up was the topic of time travel. It is set in India and Pakistan. I try to read books from time to time that are outside of my comfort zone. From the beginning of the book, I thought that it was poorly written. The language was pedestrian and completely on-the-nose. I kept reading on the hope that it would tighten up or that I would develop an appreciation of the author's technique. It did not get any worse but it definitely did not get any better. I dislike giving a bad review, especially when someone has actually completed a novel, but this one was a dud, at least for me.
