Marcus Renauld gained the crown in the middle of a battlefield as he watched his father be cut down.

He wasn’t the son others in the kingdom thought should rule in a time of war, but he was the one his father had chosen. And he wasn’t going to let him down.

War was a cycle, giving way to peace before returning again. But the earth had a long memory and its scars didn’t fade with time. This time, it may be too much for it to handle.

Standing amongst the blood and horror of his crowning day, Marcus finds the one thing that gives him hope. The one thing that strengthens his will.

A girl with fire-kissed hair and more skill with a blade and bow than any of his soldiers. Only, she was the enemy. An enemy with information and secrets and eyes that told it all.

Marissa Kane wasn’t only there to change his life.

She was going to alter the fate of Dreach-Sciene.

If she wasn’t too late.

A story of an impossible love amidst chaos and ruin. This is Marissa and Marcus, twenty-years before the events of Prophecy of Darkness.

Michelle MacQueen is a USA Today bestselling author of love. Yes, love. Whether it be YA romance, NA romance, or fantasy romance (Under M. Lynn), she loves to make readers swoon.
The great loves of her life to this point are two tiny blond creatures who call her "aunt" and proclaim her books to be "boring books" for their lack of pictures. Yet, somehow, she still manages to love them more than chocolate.
When she's not sharing her inexhaustible wisdom with her niece and nephew, Michelle is usually lounging in her ridiculously large bean bag chair creating worlds and characters that remind her to smile every day - even when a feisty five-year-old is telling her just how much she doesn't know.

I really appreciated that the people with Earth magic are so attuned to Nature. It was a part of them and not merely waiting around at the whim of humans.
The relationship between the two main characters reminded me a bit of the solution to The War of the Roses – join the warring factions with marriage.

What a wonderful start to a series of action, where honor and integrity are backed by the sword- after magic is taken.

I pretty much gave it all away in the title - sorry... It really is a story of evil versus good. Where sometimes the good guys don't always win every battle or in this case the current war. It is also a story of the might and strength of character to preserve and live to fight another day.
There is a surplus of action and suspense to quickly carry the reader to the end.

I love prequels. They're not always necessary, but they're often fun. While the Legends of the Tri-Garde series is a wonderful, epic fantasy series, it's nice to delve into the backstory a little more. You don't necessarily have to read this book (though you should, it's a very quick read) to understand the rest of the series, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to.

Well done Ms. Lynn!

A short story showing you how the magic was removed from Dreach-Sciene. You get to see how Marcus and Marissa meet and fall in love. An exciting story that was hard to put down. Enjoyed the beginning of the series.

Good prequel story with likeable characters, action, love & betrayal.
Needs more editing to fix a few typos but this series has potential
