CONQUERING PASSION:

This is how I wish history had been presented as a student. Anna Markland is one of the very best authors to explain the history that is going on around Ram and MaBelle and how it influences them.

Just as there are bad in this world there is so very much good. Ram is one of those rare knights who, had he been king, would have rivalled the legend of King Arthur. He does not believe in the cruelties that many Normans are known for and because of this he begins to amass quite the extraordinary legacy.

And, then there is MaBelle. MaBelle lost her home when still a child. At her irascible father's side they travel from noble home to noble home until people tend to get irritated with MaBelle's father. Ram is sent with his men to get MaBelle and her father's castle back, yet, they don't have a chance. Arnulf, MaBelle's half-brother, who is ten times as worse as his father, dies under suspicious circumstances. Of course, no one liked Arnulf so no one investigates his death.

MaBelle is once more a lady and her father marries her off in a political move to Rambaud de Montbryce.

Theirs is a romance that could easily have been neglected but both want to make life good for the other. Long beyond when either will admit to having fallen in love with their spouse a situation rears its ugly head and they both finally understand what they mean to each other.

A very good story, and a very good start to the Montbryce Legacy.

A MAN OF VALUE:

Caedmon is the illegitimate son of Ram de Montbryce. I have come across a few reviews that hate this book simply because Ram slept with another woman (one he did not rape; it was mutual) and he had not gotten to know MaBelle.

REMEMBER THESE BOOKS TAKE PLACE IN A TIME WHEN THIS WAS ACCEPTABLE!!! I think some readers forget that.

Anyway, Caedmon has been brought up to believe he was the legitimate son of his mother's husband. It nearly devastates him when he finds out this is not so. A good portion, shown in Caedmon's journal, is his own journey of accepting who he is even though his father, Ram and MaBelle and their children have accepted him. Joining the People's Crusade in order to both punish himself, and to find out if any bit of him left is worthwhile.

Ram proves that Caedmon is worth living, worth Agneta, and is a valued member of the Montbryce family.

IF LOVE DARES ENOUGH:

Hugh is a refreshing hero; a virgin. But he is terrified that something is wrong with him because he was aroused during a battle. Back in those days they were unaware what adrenaline did to the human body. Thus, Hugh has decided he shall never marry.

FATE chooses to ignore that and before Hugh knows it he is stealing a battered woman and her family from a cruel, duplicitous man who claimed her home and her body.

Devona is a woman who will do anything to keep her family safe including selling her body to a cruel man who regularly beats her, and threatens her family. When the chance to finally escape, Devona does not hesitate. She not only crawls through an awful tunnel to freedom but she sends her family through that same tunnel along with two rather large dogs.

Hugh's brother is Antoine and he is a notorious rake who is certain never to settle down and have a family. That is until he meets Sibella de Giroux. Sibella has been hidden away until the right time when her father can sell her to the right moneyed family. FATE takes hold of Antoine, and just like Hugh, he takes a woman who does not belong to him.

This opens a terrible feud between the Montbryce family and the Giroux family.

PASSION IN THE BLOOD:

This is the fourth and last story in the Montbryce Legacy. Although the story centers around Robert Montbryce and his trials and tribulations, his brother Baudoin also figures highly.

This is an epic story that manages to follow everyone in the Montbryce family since Rambaud de Montbryce. There is also a good deal of the fight for one English king, Henry or his brother Curthose.

This is a mighty novel to wrap up the wonderful legacy of the Montbryces. You will chuckle, weep, and cheer.

Now More Than "1"

Well unbeknownst to me and my everlasting love of all things sci- fi (shocked ya' there a bit didn't I.!!!!) I've been on a Medieval kick. Don't worry I've read more than one genre at a time before, shhhh... and will happily add Anna Maryland to the winner's column!
I think it was due to my fav gift from my Babe of 36 years (who never reads, gasp - fiction) of a Kindle fire and "unlimited" subscription.
I believe this is the start of ANOTHER something Great!

Enjoyed absolutely!

I have more then enjoyed this series a lot more then I can say. I recognize, I have already read one or two and loved reading again. There are a lot more books that go with it but I have already read some of them. Who knows? I might read them all again, down the road.

Excellent family saga and a bit of history. Love all the characters. Some names are not to my liking. Glad to read of strong female characters, and the men who let them be that way. Baudoin needs a story.
