I need the next book !!! My heart is singing and oozing with cheesy good feels.

Grayson - typical sad, broken boy trying to discover his worth. Loved him. Even at his peak of stupidity I still was rooting for him.

Lily - this girl. Her gestures were so lovely. Eeeeek so damn cute ! I had myself one too many awwwwww moments over what she did versus what he did !!!

Now this is a first. My cheeks hurt from this dimply smile I have going on. My heart is ridiculously smiling over this book !

Book Description

There are three absolute truths in Grayson Lee’s life:

1. His existence was a mistake.

2. No one is good enough for his best friend, Lily Jacobs, especially not him.

3. He loves her anyway.

Grayson is a troubled boy, feeling like his being is worthless, like he's nothing extraordinary. Having an abusive family is slowly draining the life out of him, they don't physically abuse him but mentally abuse him enough to leave scars on his tortured heart and the only way he can make it better is by seeing his best friend Lily who he just happens to have more than friendly feelings for.

Lily is a strong girl who doesn't give up on anything she wants. She's stubborn, colourful and loves hard especially those closest to her, especially Grayson, the boy next door. Her friendly feelings aren't that friendly anymore, she soon begins to see Grayson in a different light.

Lily is there always when Grayson needs her cementing their relationship closer together, she makes him open up and see what his future holds even though she rips out his heart and stomps on it whilst doing so. He's lost, broken and alone and it helps him on the path he takes.

Will Grayson be able to mend his broken heart and fix things with Lily? Well you'll have to read to find out.

This was a beautiful, beautiful story and heartbreakingly sad. I felt every single emotion Grayson went through and I absolutely loved that. I had in my head the way I thought this would end but boy was I wrong, it kept me on my toes that's for sure.

This is my first read by Lindy Zart and I can't wait to get started on Complete.

"With her, I am whole. With her, I am not a mistake; I am not unloved and unwanted. I am not me."

Incomplete by Lindy Zart is a Young Adult book. It is about Grayson, a lost high school boy who's living in a broken home, who's totally & madly in love with his best friend, Lily.

The description of the book really intrigued me. While I wasn't wow'ed at the execution of this story, I did enjoy it. It was a pretty quick read. The story dragged for the first half of the book. Every chapter was about Grayson hating his life. Loving Lily. Realizing he can't never have her because he isn't good enough for her. I was a little frustrated because instead of the repeats, we could of gotten more details about the characters. Yes Grayson grew up with parents who showed him no love, but getting to know more about his childhood, about his parents, more about Lily, Aidan, Ana, Garrett. I wanted more detailed chemistry between Grayson and Lily. I wanted to swoon over Grayson. Instead, I just ended up being frustrated.

Many readers who will read this book will be able to relate to Grayson. Since Grayson can remember, his life has been far from perfect. His dad works a lot, his mom is an alcoholic and he had to raise his 11 year old brother.

Greyson feels unloved. Unwanted. One time he overheard his parents fight and he heard his mother speak to his father:

" I never wanted this! Any of this! I never wanted a son. I wouldn't even be with you if he hadn't been born. The only reason I'm here is because I got pregnant. And then it was too late."

We all know words hurt. They hurt even more when a child hears it and keeps it inside for a long time. Grayson is struggling. He is lost. He is suffocating. He hates living in that house. He hates the town he lives in. His loves are: Aidan (his brother) and Lily. He also has love for music. We learn that he has quite the talent. He sings and he writes his songs.

Lily has been there for Grayson since they became friends at the age of 7 &8. Lily knew to an extent what was going on with Grayson, even though he did not speak of it. They have this awesome friendship, one that blooms into more. But it isn't hearts and flowers. Oh no. Grayson finally makes his move. He kisses Lily. Then he keeps putting himself down for doing it. He decides not to pursue it again. But our Lily is a smart and confident cookie!

"Grayson, I want us to be together."

 photo kissing1_zps7bca32b9.jpg

Then he does the unthinkable and hurts Lily. (he thinks he is saving her) I was so frustrated, I wanted to scream but I couldn't because I was in public! (ha)

"That kiss - it didn't mean anything." - Grayson

We get to see both of them struggle in their own way. I do wish we also had Lily's point of view in the book. It would of made the book more interesting.

We also see them be happy. They share the love of music. They share the love of running. They share love for Dove dark chocolates and they collect the foil wrapping that has sayings on them. ( I won't give it away but I thought that was awesome) I loved the idea. Scored points right there!

 photo dovewrapper_zps34405ccc.jpg

Through out the book we see how Grayson is coping with his hate for his parents, his love for his brother Aidan and for Lily. No one deserves to live with an alcoholic but Grayson had no choice. He now has a chance to get out of this house. Get out of town and leave those he hates & loves behind. Will he go? Will he stay? What sacrifices will he make?

You will have to read this book to find out.

Incomplete is part of a series. The second book will not be out until 2014.
My hope for the next book (which I will read) We get to have Lily's point of view in few chapters. I hope we get to find out more of his mother's past. Find out Aidan's struggles.

I found the story to be lacking and boring. It really felt like the Grayson was making problems where there really wasn’t any and he was a bit whinny for my tastes.

I love stories about unrequited love, but the immaturity and over the top angst of Grayson and his self flagellation about not being good enough for his best friend and love of his life, Lily was ridiculous. The way Grayson acts doesn't make any sense. The author tries to show why Grayson has such low self esteem because his mother is an alcoholic and distant father, but it fails because his parents are more like wallpaper if anything.

There's nothing admirable or amazing about Grayson. He is portrayed as very annoying and more spoiled than anything. The push and pull with him and Lily is another thing that doesn't make any sense. He wants her but refuses to act on his feelings just because. but then when Lily acts on her feelings and accepts Grayson, she pushes him away for no reason. The angst has no real meaning or depth here and there isn't any real meat or actual story underneath this tepid and poorly executed tale.

This reads more like a first draft if anything and should have been rewritten and revised many times over before it was ready for publication.

Big pass.

This was a beautiful, heart-warming story about best friends. I loved it. It is brought to us strictly from the male POV. He thinks he is not worthy. His family issues play a big part of that. Lily is his rock in more ways than one. The relationship is very real. I shed a few tears as well as laughed. Lily and Grayson are meant to be. Will they end up that way? I don’t know; it seems I have to wait until 2014 to find out. I like this author’s writing. I wasn’t bored at any time, and she kept me focused on the story. I will definitely read something else by Ms. Zart.

Do you know how it feels, that a boy, have you as the center of is world and to take all his love and feelings and throw it back in his face!

I'm getting ahead of myself. Greyson Lee is a troubled soul with an abusive family relationship. Not the type of abuse that leaves physical wounds, the kind that hurts the mind and heart, making you think negative thoughts about yourself.

Greyson thinks that something is wrong with him. That if he was not alive the whole world would be a better place; that is why even though he is in love with his next door neighbor and best friend, Lily, he thinks that he is not good enough for her.

Lily was the one that forced him to open up, Lily was the one that really saw him, Lily was the only one that allowed him to be himself and Greyson fell in love with her, before he even understood what love was.

He lets out his love for her through the songs he writes and sings out his emotion for her when she is not around, telling himself that he must save her from himself.

Lily is the type of girl who does not like to give up, and when she sets her sights on Greyson, she mean's she has got to have him. But with Greyson's pushing her away and deliberately hurting her so she would be "happy" she was not having none of that. So she does outrageous things to get his attention, and oh does she get his attention.

Want to know how she throws all his love back in his face... well unfortunately I do not wan to totally ruin the book for you so you have to read the book for yourself, and believe me, you will not regret it. I have read this book walking and bumped into many things along the way just so that I don not have to put down the book and I have been late for work because I could not be appeased until I found out what had happened.

I felt cheated since their story does not end there and I wanted to get the second book "Complete" right away, which luckily I had. Look out for my review on "Complete" by Lindy Zart, who is a wonderful writer with a dark-side. That is what I get from her writing, she also has a romantic and a funny side and they all came together to produce this wonderfully amazing book.

Received from: Lindy Zart (in exchange for an honest review)

Grayson, an aspiring singer/songwriter, believes he was never supposed to be born. He believes that his parents had only married because of him and he believes that was the beginning of the stress within their family. He does not allow himself friends, because they may see his alcoholic mother or emotionally distant father. He tries to shield his little brother from the toxic situation in their home. There is one friend; they have been together since he was eight. Lily knows the home situation and the fears of Grayson's heart, but does not press him to speak of anything that makes him uncomfortable. Grayson knows that he loves Lily, but he cannot allow himself to do more than dream of her in his lonely bed every night. What will it take to lead them to their HEA? Can they have a HEA?

I’m blaming Ms. Zart for a sleepless night and for waking up my hubby with my crying (but I’m not telling you which part had me crying). This story was fabulously written. Ms. Zart has provided us with fully-developed characters and a heart-wrenching story that sucks you in and holds you captive.

Two warnings: You will need Kleenex and you will crave Dove dark chocolates. Luckily, I had both within reach while reading this wonderful story.

Recommended for: 18+ due to adult situations and sexual content

This is a YA book and is about Grayson and Lily who have been best friends since they were about seven/eight. Grayson is in love with Lily but won't tell her, he doesn't feel like he is good enough for her. The story follows their journey from friendship to love and as I don't want to give away spoilers I won't give too much away about how that unfolds.

This was an angsty read so if you enjoy angst in your story, this book is for you. There are a lot of ups and downs in their relationship and I did enjoy that because I love some angst! I also liked the characters. Grayson is a sensitive soul and loves hard. He comes from a troubled home and looks out for his brother trying to shield him from the stuff going on at home. Lily was also a likeable character and I loved the friendship that these two had.

Incomplete is a pretty emotional rollercoaster ride of a book. It is told from Grayson's POV which I enjoyed although I would have preferred dual POV but that is just me and what I prefer. There will be another book so keep that in mind but I do highly recommend this book.

Well... that was depressing

hoping the next book will be a little more uplifting. I liked Lily for most of it, but can't help but hate her when she damn well knew he was being destroyed by her actions...

also, they never talked about going to college together?!?! sure, he's a year older and all, but they could have talked about him holding off for a year and working and making money and then them going to college together... he could go to his music school and her to another college close by. Because of this lack of communication, this lack of planning, between 2 BEST friends, it pulls me out of the believability of the story and brings it down to about a 3.5 star rating... but it's so beautifully written i rounded up to 4

Wow! Thank you Lindy for allowing me the opportunity to beta read Incomplete. Once again Lindy created another romantic, page turner and fiction takes precedent before anything else in my life, coming of age novel. The characters Grayson Lee and Lily Jacobs are friends that grew up together. As high school graduation approaches, Grayson is caught between a rock and a hard place in deciding if he should move forward with his musical dreams or stay in the name of love. Lily only wants what's best for Grayson no matter the outcome.

I highly recommend Incomplete, it has everything readers look for in a book, love, respect, commitment, sorrow, joy/laughter and hope. Enjoy!

Rating: Well/House, definitely pushing it's way to a Top Shelf. Can't wait for the follow up.
Anticipated Release Date: Sept. 6th, 2013

I became an instant fan of Zart's writing after I read   Take Care, Sara  (a NA romantic/tragedy/drama).  I was beyond excited to sample her Young Adult genre and interested to see if there would be the same connection between the author and the reader.  I was not disappointed.   Zart's writing emotionally connects you with the character from the first page to the end.

Incomplete tells a story of true love from young, eighteen year old, Grayson's point of view.  Grayson is a 'closeted' singer-songwriter and because he is completely in touch with his emotions, every feeling is a thousand-fold.  Grayson's family is broken and he looks for comfort in his childhood friend, Lily.  Until recently, he never realized or acted upon his utter love for the girl next door.
Without thinking, I lean forward and brush the tear away with my lips. It’s warm and salty. Lily’s eyes widen and her lips part and I can’t stay away a second longer. If I don’t kiss her right now, I will break. The past year has been destroying me, and I can’t do it another second. I didn’t even realize it all until it is now rushing up to suffocate me.... My heart is going to explode and I can’t get enough; I want her so bad and a kiss isn’t enough; I need her; I can’t live without her; she is everything—on and on the thoughts stream through my head, merging together into a senseless litany that makes perfect sense.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

From my own personal experience, when an author takes on the challenge to write the POV of the opposite sex (in this case, a guys reference), it's often disconnected or ultra-masculine/feminine; trying too hard to achieve the desired result, to have the reader believe.  Never did I question Grayson's actions or language.  Grayson is written perfectly, and although I know some guys that would dismiss the magnitude of devotion to Lily, I believe that these same guys would act similarly  if their true love was in jeopardy.  Zart briefly mentions a look Lily's father portrays while assessing the interaction between Grayson & Lily.  No words are spoken, just a look, and it's a confirming moment.
Lily is my most needed and treasured appendage; the one I cannot live without. She is what makes me forget, makes me smile, makes me content; makes the hollowness inside me close. She makes me whole. She has so much of me; she has all of me, and Lily doesn’t even know.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

Lovely Lily is down to earth, romantic and very aware of Grayson's needs.  She doesn't waste time getting to the point of the matter.  Lily is a friend first, and always.  She reminds Grayson continually that all is not lost and happiness can be achieved if you go after your dreams.  Grayson is momentarily lost in love and Lily is there to make sure he gets back on track.
“Do you...do you love me?” I inhale raggedly. “Because I love you, like, a lot.”
Her smile is tender and sweet. “Always have, always will.”
“Say it.”
“I love you.”
My chest squeezes as I interlock my fingers with hers. I touch my forehead to Lily’s, inhaling deeply. “More than chocolate?”
Laughing, she says, “More than chocolate even.”
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

Unlike Take Care, Sara , where I cried and hurt and retreated into my own thoughts of loss, Incomplete is painful when things seem hopeless, uplifting when truth and love are welcomed and witty when you remember they are just kids.
She gives me a look over the hood of the car.
“Somebody’s a grumpy bear this morning.”
“Grumpy bear?”
“Would unprovoked asshole work better?”
I fight a grin. “Grumpy bear it is.”
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

The secondary characters, Aidan and Ana are a wonderful support system for Grayson when he doesn't even ask for their help. They keep the story going strong, and Grayson from going over the edge. Aidan, Grayson's little brother, is well aware of his parental misfortune and the responses to his home life push Grayson to find the silver-lining and take care of the boy he loves.
“What’s the real reason you won’t tell her how you feel, Grayson?” Ana quietly asks.
I swallow around the tenseness of my throat. A lengthy silence ensues. I blink my eyes and look away as I finally say, “I’m not good enough for her.”
Ana doesn’t speak for a long, long time, and when I can’t stand the silence another second and glance at her, it’s to see an expression of utter sadness on her face.
“Why don’t you let her decide that?” she says and flounces away to actually do some work.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

I want to know more about why Grayson & Garrett truly hate each other with a blinding rage. This duo is intriguing and although I believe  it's all in Grayson's perspective and he's protectiveness of Lily, I feel like there is a story there that needs to be fleshed out.
His brown gaze flickers to me, his smile dims—which makes mine appear—and he unenthusiastically opens the door wider. “Lily, Mia...Grayson,” Garrett grinds out, his facial expression showing how distasteful he finds the sound of my name on his lips. Totally mutual, buddy.
I pat him on the shoulder—hard—and walk into his house. The fact that he is so completely unhappy about my presence at his party has lightened my mood considerably. It’s not like he is going to tell me to leave because if I leave, Lily leaves, and he doesn’t want that to happen. Sucks to be him.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

This review was difficult for me to write. I LOVED this book. I LOVE the writing of Lindy Zart. Why not Top Shelf then? I felt like I was reading a little bit from S.C. Stephens and a little bit from Colleen Hoover (which, hey, that's not so bad), or similar story-lines, meshed together. I just don't like to be reminded of another author's storyline while reading a new book.  Incomplete does end with a cliff-hanger and I WILL REQUIRE THAT ARC!

More beautiful quotes:
Today, I feel, is going to be a catastrophic fail.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

I look from Aidan to Lily. “I pity the day you two realize you could have been way cooler had you only liked asparagus.”
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

“You’re wrong, you know.” When I stiffen, she adds, “That’s all I’m saying. They love you. I know they do. And no one who knows you could ever think you were anything but meant to be.” Warmth flows over me at her words. Lily pats my back. “You should probably go before you’re late for work. It’s almost two.”
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

I never realized how much I relied on her presence until I can’t have it. I can’t have her smiles, I can’t have her laughter, I can’t have her attention, I can’t have any of her— because I’m trying to be noble. One thing I have learned about being noble: It blows.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

I breathe, my chest heaving with each one I take, feeling dampness trickle down my cheeks. I whirl around the kitchen, searching for something and not knowing what—something to destroy. I fist my hand and slam it into the wall, hearing a crunch, fire blazing from my knuckles. It’s not enough. I swipe an arm against the bowl on the counter holding bananas and apples. It crashes to the floor, shattering. I thought I could have happiness. I kick at the garbage can, toppling it over, garbage spewing onto the floor. I thought maybe I could forget all my problems and have Lily and that could be enough. I grab my head and squeeze. Stupid. I was so stupid.
Zart, Lindy. Incomplete. ARC. August 2013

Sorrow blindsides me, fast and without notice. It pains me to think of all that could have been and wasn’t, because of actions on both of our parts. Maybe I could have been more forgiving; maybe I could have tried to understand more. Maybe she could have opened up to me, tried harder to reach me. Anyway. None of that matters now. All that matters is how we decide to be from this moment on.

Pov: male

Main characters: Lily & Grayson

Minor characters: Aidan (his brother), Garrett (his nemesis), Sam (her boyfriend), Ana (his coworker)

My thoughts:

This one tried really hard to be deep, but it didn't quite make it. There were a lot of thought out moments where Grayson really dives into his family's problems and how it affects him and Aidan. But at the same time he sort of glosses over why he can't be with Lily. There were barely any moments with them together before they're broken up. If the whole point of the story is how he feels incomplete without her there should have been more of him and her. And then all of a sudden he's a musician getting signed.

The pacing felt rushed, which might have been due to the lack of explanations. I get it takes place over one summer, and that he's supposed to feel cheated because he didn't get much time with her. But there weren't really any moments of them together. There was a lot of telling and not a lot of showing.

The story was good, but the execution was a little off.

Synopsis:

Grayson lives with his alcoholic mother and distant father. He overheard his mother yell at her father once, saying she wishes she never had him. He hates his life and thinks he's worthless. The only important things to him are his brother Aidan and his best friend Lily.

Lily lives across the street and he's been in love with her since he was 8. He knows he's not good enough for her so he keeps his feelings hidden.

He's about to graduate high school and he doesn't know what he's going to do. He got into a music school in San Francisco but he doesn't want to leave Aidan behind and Lily still has a year of high school left.

One night his mom comes home drunk and he escapes to Lily's house. She tells him she was invited to Garrett's party and asks him to go with her. He hates Garrett and thinks she might like him, which makes him jealous and angry.

Lily's family takes a road trip every summer and she tells Grayson he's invited. She tells him she knows things are going to change between them and they only have the summer left.

At pe one day Garrett hits him in the head with a basketball on purpose. He slams the ball into Garrett's stomach and dares him to do it again. Garrett tells him he'll be gone next year and Lily will be alone. Grayson gets angry.

At lunch their friends tell Lily what happened. She gets mad at Garrett.

Grayson works at a bar and gets along really well with his coworker Ana. She knows he's unavailable and he can tell she's weary around men so they flirt often. One night Lily comes in.

He thinks something's wrong but she explains she just wanted to see him. That she misses him. He's concerned she walked to the bar at night, which makes her feel like a child. She notices Ana and gets jealous and leaves.

He goes to see her that night and she tells him she's worried about them. That she's worried they'll drift apart when he graduates. He feels awful and kisses her. She kisses him back.

He realizes what he's doing and pulls away. He tells her they shouldn't have done that. She asks why and he won't tell her it's because he's not good enough for her. She asks why he hates Garrett and he won't tell her.

He knows they can't be together so he tells her he kissed her because she's a good enough replacement for Ana. She's devastated and slaps him and tells him to leave.

The next morning she meets him for a run like always. She apologizes for slapping him and tells him she knows he was lying. That he would never say something so hurtful to her unless it was a lie.

She asks why he really kissed her and he tells her he was just curious. She knows he's still lying and asks how she did. He tells her it was ok. She tells him she's going to find another boy to practice with, maybe even Garrett. He gets mad and tells her no. That he'll go to the party with her to keep guys away. She tells him he seems jealous, but he says no.

They go to Garrett's party and Grayson keeps an eye on her. Someone spikes the punch and she gets drunk and passes out. He confronts Grayson and he ends the party. Grayson carries her outside and pours water on her face to wake her up.

She wakes up and he's so relieved he kisses her. Their friends see and interrupt and Grayson pulls away. She tells him she wants to be with him and he says no. He doesn't want to ruin her life with all his problems so he lies to her. He tells her he doesn't want her. That it was just teenage guy hormones but it was like kissing his sister. He suggests they take a break and she decides they aren't friends anymore.

A week passes and he's miserable without her. He notices she's starting to dress different and her personality is changing and he's jealous. He sees her with Garrett and he's jealous.

One day he sees her leaving in a short dress and he confronts her. She tells him it's not his business anymore. That she doesn't know him and maybe he didn't know her either.

One day he goes to the movies with his friend and sees her with Garrett. He sees them kiss and he's devastated.

One day he sees her at the market and he snaps. He decides he doesn't care about pushing her away because of his issues. He finds her in an aisle and tells her how much he's missed her and how much he wants her.

She accepts his apology and tells him she wants him too. She tells him she was acting different to get him to notice her. That Garrett was helping her make Grayson jealous and that they don't like each other. He's relieved. They tell each other they love each other and start a relationship.

He decides not to leave for college because he doesn't want to leave her. She doesn't want him to put all his dreams on hold and she knows he needs to get out of his house.

He graduates and his parents give him $5000 as a gift. For Lily's birthday he writes her a song. He can't stop thinking of sex and asks why they're waiting. He's embarrassed he asked, but she tells him she's ready too.

One night she sneaks into his room to seduce him. They have sex.

Halfway through the summer they both feel frantic. He knows something is wrong. One night she tells him they can't be together anymore. He's shocked and confused. She tells him she can't let him give up his dream to be a musician. That it makes her feel guilty and she knows he'll grow to resent her.

He begs her not to break up with him but she doesn't change her mind. She tells him she will always love him but she's letting him go. She tells him if he stays in town she's going to ignore him. He's devastated.

2 weeks later at work Ana asks him to sing at karaoke night. He doesn't want to but she begs. He sings and her cousin, who runs a label in LA comes to hear him sing. He sings an original song and sees Lily come in with Garrett and her friends. He can tell she doesn't want to be there and he gets angry.

He meets Ana's cousin and finds out he wants to sign him. Grayson tells Ana he doesn't want that yet. That he wants to go to school first.

He gets a tattoo of a lily over his heart.

One night his parents wake him up with their fighting. He confronts them and tells them they're both awful. That they never support him or Aidan. He tells them he's leaving but Aidan deserves better.

Lily starts dating a guy named Sam and he hates it. Sam is a nice guy from a nice family but he hates him. He notices Lily is changing and he hates it.

He decides to sleep with a random girl from the bar hoping it'll make him get over Lily. He sleeps with the girl and feels awful after. He knows it was the wrong thing to do, but also that it'll keep him from trying to get Lily back. He doesn't think he deserves her anymore.

One day he gets a letter from Lily in the mail. It has a wrapper from a candy that says to look forward and not dwell on the past. (They used to save the inspirational wrappers for each other). He's furious that she won't let him go and confronts her.

Her brother stops him and tells him Lily is with her new boyfriend and is finally getting back to herself. That she was a mess for a while and he knows it was Grayson's fault. Grayson punches him to get to Lily.

They talk and he asks why she's dressing differently. She tells him Sam told her classy women don't wear flashy clothes. He's furious she's letting Sam change her. He tells her not to settle for Sam. That she deserves better, and if it's not him he just wants her to be happy.

On the day he leaves for California his mother stops him and tells him he was right about her. She's decided to go to rehab.

As he walks to the car Lily appears. She kisses him goodbye and gives him one last wrapper. It says to take care of yourself.

A year later he's doing his first show and he sees her in the crowd. He runs to find her but doesn't. He finishes the show and finds another wrapper in his dressing room. It says you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Not for me

I dont like to rubbish books. Any author who lays their heart and words on paper and sends it out into the world is a legend. But I do know what I like, and this book just wasnt for me. I couldnt connect to the characters at all, especially Grayson. To me, there was way too much time spent on Graysons inner monolouges and frankly, he scared the hell out of me. I was waiting for him to kidnapp Lily, put her in a basement and wear her skin. He was crazy obssessed that came across as mentally deranged.

Im sorry for my harsh words, but this book was almost an incomplete for me, I pushed through to the end, and I may read the next, just to see how it ends but it wont be a rush to do it.

The angst was so heavy in this. And, of course, that is my jam. Grayson story revolves around his best friend, Lily and nothing else. He was so madly in love with her it was sickening at times (in the best way). There was a lot of push and pull between the two because they were navigating their segue from friendship to more.
I really didn’t understand the major conflict in this… I won’t give spoilers, but I felt that it could’ve been handled better and we wouldn’t even need a second book.
And while we did get a book two, I wasn’t as in love with it as book one. Halfway through, it was just TOO MUCH for the sake of being too much.

So I have mixed feelings about this book. The story line was good and I liked most of the characters. But the main character was really whiny and I had a hard time with it at times. I'm curious to see how the second book goes.

Wow what a freakin' ride! This book had me cheering and screaming, sometimes at the same time! I loved the hero and the heroine equally. You can't help but root for the hero in the story in more than just his love life but in his home life and career as well.

When we meet Greyson, he is completely in love with his best friend Lily. Lily is clueless. Greyson believes that he isn't good enough for Lily but no one else is either. When he see's that he can no longer keep Lily from having interests in other boys, Greyson has to make a decision.

"This is beyond jealousy. This is all-out maddeningly consuming fury at the thought of any guy besides me touching her. It just isn't going to happen. I know it's ridiculous to think it won't ever happen, but I have to think it's true, or I will seriously lose my mind. I have to lie to myself just to get through every day without going insane. I cannot imagine her loving some other guy, kissing him, letting him touch her, marrying him, having his babies, growing old with him, because that guy-he's supposed to me. I know it like I know my own name. If we lived in a different world, it would be so."

Lily is just as in love with Greyson but she is scared to say it out loud too, because she doesn't want it to ruin their relationship, but also what if he doesn't feel the same way? I really liked that Lily is strong and stands up for herself, she doesn't let people push her around. But on the flip side of that some of the decisions she made during the book regarding her and Greyson's relationship drove me bonkers. I wanted to shake her and tell her that she is stronger than that and that she should fight for what she wants.

"I am happy, when I'm with you, and only when I'm with you. I'm sad and miserable when I'm not, Greyson. Is this what you wanted? Are you working some kind of reverse psychology or something? Because if you are, you really need to stop. You're terrible at it."

When Greyson and lily finally get things out in the open, and things heat up, and they allow the feelings they've kept hidden for so long to grow between them, it's magic! Chills and all! I have said it before and I will say it again when a book gives me chills, I am in love!

"This is what you want? You're positive?" "So positive." I take a deep breath, briefly closing my eyes. "Good. Because I'm done with being apart from you. I'm not letting you go. No more of the past few weeks. You're mine, Lily Jo Jacobs." Lily pulls back, swallowing. "I always have been, always will be, Greyson Daniel Lee," she whispers. "Do you…do you love me?" I inhale raggedly. "Because I love you, like a lot." Her smile is tender and sweet. "Always have, always will." "Say it." "I love you."

I really loved this sweet story, but there were some things I didn't love so much about it. What I didn't love about it and what kept it from being a five star read for me was that it has a cliffy. I am not a big fan of cliffhangers. I know some won't agree with me but they make me crazy. Not that everything has to be wrapped in a perfect little bow at the end, especially if it is a series, but I would like to feel like the HEA will happen at some point in the near future. I didn't get that feeling at the end of this one I literally just felt - incomplete (and in need of my own Dove bar or 5!!). The other thing I felt was missing was Lily's point of view. The whole book is in Greyson's POV and I really felt like we needed to get more insight into why she made the decisions she did, that eventually made their relationship go in the direction it did. I can't wait for book two, I'm dying to know what happens with these two!

"I was told I could be anything I wanted to be. You always told me. But what if I told you all I wanted was to be with you?"

I wish there was more background information on Lily and Grayson from when they were childhood friends and neighbors. It's hard to connect from this point in high school speculating on only the words given on the type of relationship these two had. These were my original thoughts from the beginning but then upon further reading I realize this was not the significance of the story.
So weird to read a story about an eighteen year old working at a bar. It had not occurred to me that other states allowed drinking at the age of eighteen. In California the drinking age is twenty-one. Grayson seems too young to be a bartender. Again this was not significant in the aspect that I took it. What was most important was the relationship established with Ana who worked at the bar hers parents owned.
It's sweet the adoration Grayson shows for Lily. I'm puzzled by his constant negativity towards not being good enough for her. Besides his mothers issues I'm not understanding what his mothers problems have to do with him. When his mothers issues surface and all is unfolded I gained a better understanding for how Grayson felt cheated during his childhood. I commend Lindy for making Grayson brave to confront his parents. That alone was groundbreaking and set many key steps into action. A milestone was achieved.
Lily is a straight forward character. I like her. Lily is a go get them type of girl. When she sees something she wants to takes it. Lily was a strong hearted character that was very selfless. Lily was brave to allow Grayson the freedom to go after his dreams.
I think it's wonderful how protective and caring Grayson is with his brother Aidan. Although it's confusing why he feels the need to include him when he should be out with kids his own age. Not to mention there father is still present in their life so why are the guys not bonding? Upon further reading I discovered the significance of this situation. All is revealed later and answered. The story filled in the missing pieces of the puzzle very nicely.
Grayson is realizing his actions and choices have a direct impact on the lives of others. Grayson's decisions or lack of decisions sets the motion for other major occurrences. Grayson's decisions put forth major changes for all the people he loved.
Sometimes life's choices bring forth the perspective you need to make other hard choices. When Grayson sets forth to achieve his dream of course he can reflect back on the decision to let go of the small town he grew up in because without having tried he would not have had that perspective to reflect back on.
The vibe I am getting from Lily is that sometimes what we think we want as a young adult is not necessarily what we need in our future. Grayson's determination to hold himself back is going to backfire and also stunt the growth of their relationship.
Without realizing it we have the beginning stages of stardom in the making.
The story had a lot of ups and downs. I'm not a patient person and this one was a challenge to my impatience. I may not agree with the choices that Lily made for Grayson but it's not my story to tell. I had no idea going into this story that it would end up becoming a rockstar in the making. It's easier to reflect back and have the clarity for the turnout.

Once again, you had me at awe, first was Take Care, Sara – now Incomplete.

One thing I have learned about being noble: It blows.
My sentiments exactly – this is where their problem started: sometimes you don’t get to decide what is best for the person. He or she may not need the best, and just needs you.

Grayson and Lily had been best friends for a very long time. Just like the old plot, he fell in love with her. HARD. CONSUMING. INTENSE. But he’s not acting on it – he’s not good enough for Lily (no one else is for that matter). He has a lot of problems at home, he’s going to California after graduation and their friendship? It’s too perfect to be messed up.

Lily was something else. I love her character – she’s shy, kindhearted, down to earth, a really great friend, she easily forgives and understood. Grayson may have hurt her feelings and broken her heart with his words – but she knew deep inside how he felt and she was willing to fight and take a risk on him.

But sometimes, loving means letting go, even if it hurts, even if it kills you. Will their love be strong enough to withstand this? Or will the pain of letting go shred them apart?

I would love to have this in alternating POV and knowing what’s inside Lily’s mind too. But being inside Grayson’s mind and knowing what makes him do and decides on some stupid things allows me to understand him better. He might have pissed off me at one time or the other – I wanted him to finally make up his mind and decide or open his mind and see reason. Overall, however, he’s a great guy, who’s not lucky enough to have good parents. He tasked himself in taking care of his younger brother and protecting him from all the shenanigans that is happening inside their house.

Both of them wanted the best for each other, but the BEST is tearing them apart. Incomplete is a story about friendship, family and love. It’s about letting go, selflessness, and sacrifices. It’s about Grayson and Lily who finally found love in each other but is tested by fate.

Lindy Zart had wowed me AGAIN with her emotionally-gut-wrenching words, heartbreaking scenes and strong characters. I don’t know what to expect with the ending. So I held my breath until I reach the final page - it was bittersweet, but perfect. I can’t wait until the next book!

Received ARC for an honest review

Incomplete was the first book that I had ever read by Lindy Zart and I was unsure at first when I started reading but I kept going and I must admit, this book had some great moments.
The story is told from our leading man, Grayson's point of view which was new for me to read about love from a mans point.

Grayson is a senior in high school and is graduating that year with every intention of heading to California to fulfil his dream of becoming a performer in a band. However, this is a scary move for anyone and especially for Grayson who has some deep rooted issues where he does not believe that he is worthy of very much. His childhood has not been easy. He has had a hard time and this does affect him throughout the story. Especially when it comes to his best friend, Lily, a junior in high school.

The girl who has captured Grayson's heart but he refused to do anything about it because he fears that he could lose her if the feelings are unrequited. He would rather have her a friend than not at all. That is of course, until Lily starts receiving attention from other boys at the high school and his green eyed monster comes out. Through the help of jealousy, he gets the girl and the romance starts. Grayson and Lily have an amazing connection but when Grayson refuses to leave for California, Lily does the only thing she can to ensure he never regrets his life...

The overall story is about young love, growing up and discovering who you are.
Grayson was great at detailing what was going on in his life and we got a great insight into his mind and his heart but at times, I really wanted to throttle him. When he got jealous, I also found him to get childish. He also had a bit of anger problem that he really needs to get in control of but some times, I was just screaming at him to please keep his mouth closed because I knew he was going to say something that was sarcastic that was really going to annoy me...he always said it anyway.
But as I said, this story is about growing up and we do get to see him mature slightly throughout the story.

Lily was really sweet and it was easy to see that she loved Grayson but at times, I was sure she pushed him to get a reaction out of him. However, when it came to him leaving, I really got angry with her. Not for her decisions but the way that it was said. Again, we saw Lily grow up slightly but I really wanted more maturity from both of them especially when they were having disagreements.

However, the epilogue to me, was one of the best parts of the story and it did leave the story a little up there. Not a cliff hanger...maybe a hill hanger?

Overall, I did enjoy this story and I do want to know what happens in book two, Complete. I am rooting for these two characters. I gave the story a 3.5 because of the way it did annoy me at times and the way that I wanted the characters to mature some more but I'm sure that I will see this happen in book two. The love between the two characters was very sweet and it has the possibility of producing an amazing book two. If you enjoy an easy read with a sweet romance book without any major drama then this book is for you.

Title: Incomplete

Series: Incomplete bk 1

Author: Lindy Zart

Genre: Romance

Blurb: There are three absolute truths in Grayson Lee’s life:

1. His existence was a mistake.

2. No one is good enough for his best friend, Lily Jacobs, especially not him.

3. He loves her anyway.

Thoughts: I thought Lily went about all wrong

Originally given 4.5 hearts at Rookie Romance.

Gah, what an emotional rollercoaster! I went through every emotion throughout this story, and I loved it!

Grayson has always felt rejected and unwanted, something brought on by his parents' constant fighting and his mother's destructive drinking. If it wasn't for Lily, Grayson would have been lost to his pain. He's always loved Lily but he doesn't feel good enough for her, so he's determined to keep their friendship platonic. But he is also eaten up with jealousy at the thought of Lily being with anyone else. He has a real artist's soul and loses himself in his music- music and Lily are his two loves. I loved how passionate and intense Grayson was. He's also utterly selfless, he never does anything for himself and always puts Lily and his little brother, Aidan, first.

Lily is exactly the type of sunny, optimistic girl Grayson needs. She's always there for silent comfort and unquestioned friendship. Even when he pushes her away, she pulls him back to her. She sees the amazing person he is and the potential he has. She pushes him to realise that potential and refuses to let him throw away his dreams, no matter what.

There's a great build up to allow us an in-depth insight into Grayson and Lily's friendship, and we can see just how close they are and how much Grayson needs Lily.
They have a special connection that comes from two souls finding their match. Their close friendship becomes a sweet and passionate romance. But do all good things come to an end?

I was giddy when they finally kissed and squealed in happiness. Then I was crying on the train because I needed them to realise how much they deserve to be together and how right they are together. I seriously was put through the wringer with this!
Each character is so well-developed that I felt like I knew them personally, and it meant that I could feel their pain. This is alternately heart-wrenching and heart-warming, and occupied my heart and mind thoroughly. I am already incredibly impatient for book 2, Complete, so I can experience the rest of Lily and Grayson's amazing journey!

*I received an ARC from the author, for my honest review. Thank you!

This book was aptly named, because it felt incomplete. Not only because you get absolutly no resolution to, well, anything, but also because there was so much missing from this book. I felt as I was reading it that it needed a few more beta readers to help the author tear it apart so it could be put back together as a really solid read. There is a good story here. In fact, I'm almost certain there is an amazing story within this book. I just felt it was missing so much.

1.) There was a lot of history around why Grayson (I love that name) was broken. However, his love of music is mentioned, but you don't really get a lot of detail around the fact that he is very musically inclined and what his plans are. That kind of came from nowhere and it would have been good to have a bit of history on his music.

2.) The relationship between Garret and Grayson seemed so forced and as though it was only used in order to create a bit of tension. You never find out why they dislike each other or any of the history between them. This also resolves in the craziest way I've ever seen. It didn't flow, it didn't feel real, and it felt like a plot mechanism to force a situation and create a bit more drama.

3.) The relationship between Lily and Grayson seemed so unrealistic at parts I found myself rolling my eyes. There was no explanation behind when the feelings turned from friendship to love. The 'sacrifice' is rediculous and again felt like it was only in the book to push the plot.

4.) I'm sure I'm the only one, but the Dove candy wrappers drove me nuts. How convienient that they always said just what the character needed them to say at that moment and was relevant to what was happening in their lives.

5.) The ending. It wasn't an ending at all and felt like half the book was left off. It isn't really a cliffhanger (you know where the characters are and what they are doing), but nothing resolves.

6.) Grayson is unlike any other 18 year old boy I've ever met. I'm sure they exist, but he (even with his brokenness) has an amazing ability to love and give to others that seemed way beyond his years and at times he came across as obsessive and a bit over the top.

I'm not sure if I'll pick up the next one. This was almost a waste of $0.99 which is sad because I really wanted to love this book and these characters.
