"Those with the desire to rule often do so with only their intent in mind, not that of others.” What a fantastic sequel to the series! I’m totally wowed! The plot, narrative, and character in-depth is fabulous, as the rest of the series. The overture with stealthier, faster and deadly creatures is terrifying. A wonderful ending to a marvelous series. Pity it had to end. I’m sure Herron will give us yet another delicious surprise! I definitely recommend to read it! Thank you to the author for this ARC. It’s a voluntary review with pleasure.
This was a really wonderfully enjoyable trilogy. Excellent writing, and characters that are well developed and well rounded. The world-building is excellent, and the plos in each book are well written and thoroughly enjoyable both as a scifi novel and as an adventurous tales. Most definitely recommended.
I thought the concept was good as well as the plot. I felt the author was not able to deliver when the story started to get exciting. The action seemed to get muddled and skipped on
I stopped reading about 80% through the second book. There were some glaringly unrealistic interpersonal interactions that disturbed the flow of the narrative. That and the villainous former colleague, just didn’t ring true enough. The translocation, alien abductions, alien extinction piece...Some imaginative stuff there, but not well crafted. Pretty bad for me to bomb part way through the second book.
A hard core science fiction book that follows scientists as they create a device that allows travel to different planets. Reminiscent of Chrono Trigger with aspects of Stargate, I wanted a more from the series than was written but the fast paced chapters and plot kept me turning pages to see where it ended. An entertaining read about human nature, past meeting present, an alien encounter, and the fine line between doing your job as a scientist and getting too involved.
Overal a good book written seamlessly. The information and description was good, and easy to perceive the details of worlds and characters described. However, must say that while reading these books I felt vibes from Apocalypto, predator, Indian Jones, Mummy returns and even Eragon book character (Letherblaka) The story moved quickly and was very interesting as we got to the end.

The first book started out well enough and was exciting, but somewhere in book two, things started to go downhill. Towards the end, it felt like reading the script of a bad family movie - with a crazy amount of gory details. There are lots of cliches, and eventually, the science became truly unbelievable along with some glaring plot holes.
An interesting concept for space travel combined with archeology. Well thought out and great pacing throughout the story. Characters have depth of personality and feelings.
WOW! Very interesting. I never read a story like this before. It pulled me in from the start. I got very attached to the characters. They were very well fleshed out. Some questions I had took a while to be answered but well worth the wait!
Loved the storyline. Many twists and turns. Just the right amount of technical stuff as well as archaeological information. I binge read them. Now to chase down some more books by this author to see if his other series are as interesting.
A great deal of unnecessary detail and a huge lack of science (fiction) ruined an otherwise interesting plot line. It reads like a screenplay rather than a novel.
