I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Audio: the narrator did an excellent job. He had a versatile range and adopted character voices proficiently. I wasn't sure if I would be a fan of the ambient background noise that accompanied each chapter but the arrangement actually added depth to the narrative that I didn't expect. The ambiance kind of framed the action and gave it tone and context. I hope to see this technique in more audiobooks in the future.

Overall the prose is competent and the world that the author created had potential. But the action was stalled time and time again by unsurmountable walls of exposition. The author divulged mountains of lore and history in nearly indigestible chunks and it made the progression of the novel slow to a crawl. At times it read more like a textbook detailing the persons and histories of a science fiction world. I'm not sure if this was information I could have gained in the author's previous works or if it was all new information unique to this book. Either way, the plot structure didn't work for me. Some people adore this kind of over-indulgence in the minutiae of a fictional universe, but I much prefer that it is incorporated into the story in hints here and there.

Non-stop action adventure. Kept my mind off the 2020 election, so it was v-e-r-y good. Audiobook well performed (in different accents and voices) by Edward James Beesley.

"Mad, crazy or cold calculating."
Grady is a Mutant Hunter, one of, if not the, best. But had also used as a spy. Now he was to become a full agent with total A.W.access powers. Tensions in the Clone Worlds are increasing and he is sent back to the Arco sector where resources have been discovered on a planet where possible indigenous life had also been found and other hunters sent to illegally clear the planet of them. Things are going to get tricky ...

Set in the complex politics of the Clone Worlds, an introductory session at the beginning, repeated again at the end, brings the reader a résumé of the background situation and political and business bodies which had power within, as well as a brief history of the universe as it now existed. If there is a criticism of the text, it is the frequent use of the numerous initial letters of these groups. The complexity can make the story alliances confusing initially.
That aside, the story is intriguing, fast paced and action filled with unexpected twists to add savour. The ideas, too, are thought provoking.

Narrator, Edward James Beesley, reads clearly with good intonation and expression, his character voicings individual and reasonable although not always properly representative - his male and female characters all having a similar timbre. Behind his narration, throughout the book, is a softly playing ambient sound track, too quiet to disrupt the speech but sufficient to bring a welcome sense of place. It is a well executed and clever idea which really enhances the overall experience.

Although I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next, it was not (for this reader, at least) an easy listen, demanding concentration throughout and I found myself repeating several sections after losing track of some plot situations. But ultimately this was worthwhile. My thanks to the rights holder of Mutant Hunter who freely gifted me a copy, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. It was a full and satisfying read. Thank you..

A solid 3.5 stars.

I received an audio version of this book for free in return for a review.

...that was, unfortunately, two years ago. I'm sorry I never got around to listening and reviewing the book in time, but now that I did I'm glad!

The concept, the universe and the setting are very intriguing. I've always been a fan of what cloning could mean for the future of humanity and the ethical and/or biological concerns that may arise from it. There is a lot of information and background to the world that is provided throughout the book and that is the sort of thing I personally like because I want to know everything! For some expecting only pure action these parts may feel a little dense but it is worth it to understand the world better. The only thing I'll say I didn't much care for in the story was but your mileage may vary. I enjoyed the story aside from that and this was made just that much better with his fantastic narration. If the synopsis of the book interests anyone, I highly recommend purchasing the audio version.

I loved this book. Grady is a likeable main character and although Shrilla is a bit 'shrill' she's an excellent foil for his personality and throughout the book helps us judge Grady's actions by normal Clone World standards. The whole concept of the 'dispersal' is new SF and Roote should be applauded for pushing the boundaries of recent SF and producing something 'out-of-this-world'. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction (and there's plenty of action) of the characters. Book two looks like it might tread some very new ground in SF terms. Waiting (im)patiently.

Fast paced action packed sci-fi adventure story

Fast paced action packed sci-fi adventure story... i enjoyed the book. A bit heavy on the assumptions - not a lot of time was invested in weaving the background story for any readers new to this world / reality - which is he why I held back one star

Cracking good read.

Fast paced, wide ranging action, engaging characters, political intrigue, with enough originality to keep my interest piqued.
I recommend the first volume in the series, and look forward to more of the people and Grady.

Good vs Evil

A wonderfully told tale of plots inside plots growing with each chapter. I enjoyed the characters, the believable science, and personal conflicts. A secret agent in a space ship, underwater, or jungle all just part of the job of fighting for good over evil.
