Loretta "Lolly" Novak has a great job as a project manager for a construction company in San Francisco. She likes to work hard and play hard. But when she begins to experience her life in a male dominated world, Lolly realizes the hat she chose to wear is harder than she ever imagined.
A memoir (I think though the author does not make this entirely clear but I'm sure its based on her own life experiences) of a woman who works as a project manager for a large construction firm. The story takes placed in the late 80's (I think as the author only hints at a date) and this woman is working in a world of men, both those for whom she works and those that she directs. This is a self published book and the writing especially in the early pages was often hard to follow, the author does improve as she moves into her story. This book covers one project Lolly (the narrator) is in charge of. It begins with her being hired for the job through various problems that occur during various stages of the construction and to the final completion and after party. For a first effort I found the story easy to follow and tied together well. The author often failed to explain certain terms and seemed to be writing a story it would take some experience in the building trades to full appreciate. I'm hoping some of the male/female relationships in this book are dated and women, presently, do not have to "try to be one of the boys" to the extent that this woman did.
