Fergus Lloyd stared into the window at the back of the old school bus. The reflection in the dusty glass was so much younger than he, childlike and distant. Those wide blue eyes once harbored gentle innocence and curiosity. He used to wonder where it had gone but now he knew.He could blame his brother Lucas for telling horrific bedtime tales about the Jimmyman but it was more than that. It began with an accident on the same bus, resulting in minor brain trauma affecting his speech. The inability to communicate his thoughts succinctly coupled with the frustration and confusion of always being misjudged gave Fergus the outward appearance of a boy suffering much greater challenges. Few people took the time to understand, fewer even cared.As an adult he tried to find peace within memories of a younger Fergus. Thoughts of his sister Annalee and his mother Hannah would warm him, soothing the conflict in his mind, but Lucas and the murderous Jimmyman were always there. Fergus knew the Jimmyman wasn’t real but his fertile imagination and delicate psychological balance sometimes combined to blur the line between reality and fantasy. As he stared out through the bus window he knew that somewhere in the night the shovel-wielding entity was about to cross that line.
