A small part of Madeline had hoped to call the Salr home, but hope can be a cruel thing. Now it’s up to her to find what everyone else is looking for, and she’ll have to commune with the dead to do it. The real question is, what will she do with the ancient charm when she finds it?Enter the mischievous Viking. Mikael seems to know more about Madeline’s quest than she does. His ancient vendetta will take her back to his homeland. Unfortunately for Madeline, Mikael was born about a thousand years ago. In order to return home, Madeline will face the massacre of an ancient village, less than friendly Vikings, and the spinners of fate themselves. The stakes are higher than ever, but at the very least, Madeline finally knows just what, and who, she’s fighting for.

I'm really into this story line! My husband is of Norse descent and, being native American, the power verbal history is amazing to me. This is a twist on Norse history presenting itself in modern times. I'm going to continue!
This book was much better then the first one in the series. Maddy really starts to develop who she is and the chemistry between her and Alaric become a little more intense. Every scene in the book makes you want to read more. On to book 3...
So this is book 2 in the series Bitter Ashes and Madeline has since been kidnapped, and then tortured, then nearly sacrificed to acquire an ancient key which so many Vaettir were looking for. Then she became shackled to the said key that seemed to have chosen her as its next guardian. To top it all she was pregnant and was now being hunted by most of the Vaettir so trying to return to her own time after a bit of time travel and being soaking wet whilst doing so was just the cherry on the cake. She had met the Norns and was travelling in the company of a Nordic Doyen called Mikael who she was not sure could be trusted. The more she was using the power of the key the closer they became but what was she to become a partner to the key or its slave? When her life, her free will and her very soul are hanging in the balance what else need she fear? Will she have to sacrifice her life and that of her baby to rid the world of the force of chaos which the key thrived upon? Wow so much going on and it’s a really fast paced read, full of thrilling adventures across time and place! Also love the characters as even the baddies are nice and romance is in the air too. Looking forward to reading book 3 to see how this story is going to continue or end one way or another!
I. AM. SHOOKETH. So many twists in this book. So much action. So much romance. So much wow. Can't wait to read the next one. I'll probably finish it in a day as well.
This book, the third in a trilogy, was a good read. If you don't like mistakes which should have been picked up by the editor, though, you may want to skip this one, although, truly, I would strongly suggest reading it if you read the other 2 books.
The author left it open for another sequel if she wishes to do so. Personally, I would kind of like to see what happens after the "new birth." Birth of who or what? won't say any more about that because I don't want to ruin the story for any readers.
I have to give kudos to the author because these book have a good story line. In addition to that, she is great at helping the reader to "see" what is happening because of her skill with words. You don't need a follow-up movie if you are reading this series!
