Raina Black steals treasures from warlords, spies on governments and corporations, and sleeps like a baby at night. But after a particularly rough job where she inexplicably wakes up in a tomb in Cairo, things get weird.

First, Noah Mason, a man she swears she saw die, approaches her, claiming to be a demon hunter. Then, Noah insists she must fulfill her family legacy by helping him restore the Immortal Brotherhood... before all hell breaks loose.

But Raina wants no part of it. Going up against dark supernatural forces is above her pay grade. However, when the promise of a cure for her terminally ill sister hangs in the balance, Raina decides that the Immortal Brotherhood could solve her problems.

Between dodging bounty hunters, non-sparkly vampires, and Noah Mason’s smoldering gaze, Raina has to use her skill and wit to pull off the most dangerous job she’s ever taken on.

You may try to deny the existence of the supernatural world, but when you see a man walk around casually shortly after you've seen him die.. yeah, that pretty much shakes all your beliefs.
Raina's line of work was nothing short of danger. Being an intelligence analyst in her day job could have been enough, but her sister's severe health condition forced her to perform tasks for the underground elements. The Nightwalker, as she called herself, simply needed the money for the expensive cure. However, this time, the job did not go on smoothly, and Raina got herself bound to the supernatural world without realizing the consequences of her intuitive actions. Now, she isintroduced to the world of her family by Noah, an immortal, and only starts to understand the dangers and threats of the power hungry evil.
If I did not have to interrupt reading this book, I'd have it finished in one go within mere hours. Adventurous, fast-paced, and full of tension, the imminent danger drawn across the pages has the power to keep the reader alert every minute of the reading experience. Well built magical world with great potential still has a lot to offer and to explore, promising to reveal its secrets in the future.
I very much liked the plot, especially the surprising twist at the end - I totally haven't seen this coming. Thinking backwards, maybe I could have, but the hints were so subtle the greatest discovery took me by absolute surprise. Not that I am complaining, that's great. I also loved both main characters. Raina is composed and logical, keeping calm mind even in the most heated situations, yet she is emotional enough to let her feelings drive her actions and do whatever is in her power to protect and help those she loves. Noah is a bit tempered, emotional, and as Raina told him, needs to grow up, but being thrown into the world of immortals as he was, I admire his courage, determination, and devotion. Both of them suffered heavy losses, yet they haven't given up and continue to fight, picking their battles and nearing their goals one step at a time. The secondary elements were all very interesting, too, strong individuals with unique contributions to the story. Whether we talk about Thomas and his odd manners, Bev's presence and abilities, or the Reaper, they are all very refreshing and together create an awesome set of characters that drives the story forward. I really enjoyed the book and would love to continue Raina's journey in the future.

** I was lucky enough to get an ARC in exchange for a fair review

This Urban Fantasy adventure starts off with an espionage bang with main character, Raina Black, who sometimes moonlights for ethically-iffy mercenaries, head-to-head with the latest of her sketchy employers fighting over a package Raina was hired to deliver, but decides not to.

I love it when stories drop you right into the action and give you just enough sense of the world that you can figure stuff out as the story goes along. The Immortals accomplishes that nicely. I soon got a sense of Raina as a pretty hardened, action-oriented girl just trying to make enough money from her mercenary gigs for money to pay for an experimental treatment for her beloved sister's cancer.

But when things with her latest employer goes south, Raina ends up with the contents of her package stuck to her-- and with it, an introduction to a world of magical bad guys she didn't even knew existed.

She also meets Noah, who is already in the brotherhood fighting the magical bad guys, and between the two of them we get some interesting spins on family legacy and duty and inheriting crap from your parents you never asked for in the first place.

There are also some satisfyingly quirky characters in the Brotherhood who take Raina under their wing, each of whom could probably have their own book, really.

All is well until like the last third of the book. And that's where it just didn't gell together for me. We have Raina, who for the entire book is solely focused on basically living her life, compromising her morals, etc, for the one family member she has left in the world: her sister. And I can't say much without a major spoiiler, but she seems to drop that focus/feelings with too much ease. There's also kind of a split focus on bad guys. There's the two bad guys (ex-boss with the package and demon who killed Noah's parents) we see show up in the story that Raina and Noah fight, but then there's talk of two other ones and the conflicting priorities of who to go after felt more confusing than interesting.

There's also just the slightest hint of a romance. (my personal taste is for a heavier hint)

This is a somewhat shorter-feeling story (240 pages according to Kindle) and the ending leaves everything unresolved, leading you quite naturally into getting the second book.

Review can be found at https://smadasbooksmack.blogspot.com/

Raina has been moonlighting as a thief to help cover the cost of her sister's medical treatments, but this time she is in over her head. When her morals kick in and she refuses to turn over her stolen item, Raina has no idea that she just became a target for something she does not understand. Noah has always known of his family's role in fighting evil, he just never knew that he would have to step up so soon after tragedy. When he is sent to protect an unknown woman who is thrust into the middle of a supernatural war she knows nothing about, he ends up botching the mission. But it seems that Noah and Raina are going to meet again whether they want to or not and the fate of the world rests on their shoulders.

The world that the author created was completely unique and creative, with all kinds of supernatural powers including immortality, time travel, regeneration, and all kinds of psychic gifts. It is like every previous supernatural book came together to have this interesting paranormal baby! Vampires were hinted at and briefly appeared, the most creepy and unique version that I have ever seen and I can't wait to see what other changes the author will make to the usual supernatural.

I was super confused when The Immortals started. The reader is thrust right into the middle of a hostage scene with no backstory and only hints of what is going on, something about an artifact and morals and hinted at violence, and then lots of dangerous getaway action with a few deaths thrown in for flavor. And still there was no backstory! It took a few chapters before I could start to piece together what was going on in the supernatural world and with the overall plot. I will say that I usually love being thrown into the action in a story, but this was harder to understand so I felt a little disconnected to the book. I think I would have been more instantly engaged if there had been a chapter or two lead up before. I think about half way through I became invested and there were some crazy supernatural battles and giant plot twist to keep me on my toes.

The ending was surprising and now I can't wait to jump into the next book! I have no idea what will happen to Noah and Raina next but count me in for finding out.

*I received a copy for an honest review*

What is more badass than a woman who moonlights by stealing precious items from powerful people? How about being a badass whose family legacy is helping save the world from evil? Meet Raina Black. She is a spy that works for a company called Hyperion (I, for one, will never see Disney the same anymore…) but moonlights after hours to help pay her sister’s medical bill. On her recent assignment, things go wrong… very quickly. The item she was hired to procure is a part of her family legacy and has fixed itself to her. The Immortal Brother to her aid. Meet Noah. He has a powerful and dangerous gift. He can regenerate! (I thought of Doctor Who, but it’s a bit different!) Noah helps Raina escape, but convincing her she needs the Brotherhood as much as they need her… well… he’s out of his depth. Will Raina be able to save her dying sister and help the Brotherhood, or will the two conflict? If so, who will she choose? The life of her sister, or the fate of the world?

There is chemistry between Raina and Noah. While it is acknowledged, it doesn’t go beyond the acknowledgment. On one hand, I’m glad it didn’t. Romance isn’t the focus of this story, so to take it beyond the two noticing the other is attractive would have definitely taken away from the story. On the other hand, I so wanted them to be together, and perhaps they will be. THere just wasn’t room in the first book for every element. I would like to know more about the organization Raina worked for, Hyperion. How do they tie into The Brotherhood and the evil forces they are up against? The characters are quite interesting and I need more of them (particularly Bev) in my life. I will be continuing this series because I need to know what happens to the bad guy?! This is a good start to a series!

4 CRANKY STARS

I enjoyed this story but can only give it 4 stars because for me it seemed too predictable. It’s a modern-day story of secret societies, immortals, magic and double agents. The heroine, Raina is an agent of a group that I never could figure out what they did but spy. She also, has a side job as a thief to earn extra money to pay for her sister’s cancer treatments. As the infamous Nightwalker, she commands huge fees for the relics and weapons she supplies illegally to people of disreputable reputations. It appears that her whole existence revolves around illegal activities.

On her latest job, she refuses to give up the package. In it is a lovely but strange pendant. Of course, she puts it around her neck and the clasp hooks. As in all these stories, it now can’t be removed and imbues her with magical powers. She doesn’t know this at first but as the crooks stalk and try to kill her, she learns. This is when she meets Noah and learns about the Immortal Brotherhood and the Servi Mortis. Just which group is good, and which is evil remains a question until near the end of this book.

Everyone is after her and that pendant. Her sister’s cancer appears to be worse and then there is a surprise twist. Things are not always what they seem especially when good and evil are connected. Can all our characters survive to the next book and what will lie in store for them. Also, what did her family have to do with these organizations? What a twisted web this is.

This was a great book, full of action, weird occurrences, mystical artifacts, demons, necromancers, warlocks, and of course, humans meddling where they are not supposed to. Overall amazing combination of impeccable writing, great plot, realistic characters and urban setting.
The main character is Raina, an analyst in a private military company, who moonlights as a thief of rare artifacts to pay for her sister's cancer treatment. Then there is Noah, a powerful immortal, who dies five minutes after they meet. After which they embark on an adventure together. The romance is practically non-existent as the story focuses on one particular artifacts and all the individuals and groups trying to obtain it. I find this approach accelerates the pace of the story. I felt like I was racing with them and I couldn't put the book down.
Regardless of the lack of romance, the authors paid a lot of attention to character development, inter-character relationships, and especially complicated family dynamics. There is a lot of anger and resentment between some of the characters, but there is also a lot of love, care, friendship and loyalty among others. Nothing is black and white, and little is what it seems, considering the secrets that are being unnecessarily kept.
I expected a cliffhanger, and I got one. The story cuts off in a very intense moment, but it is clear that a completely new part of the adventure starts. And I immediately started reading the next book. Great series. The story continues in A Discovery of Faeries (The Immortal Brotherhood Book 2).

After signing up to get emails from Ms. Escobar, I was eager to get a chance to read The Immortals. In truth I was not familiar with her previous work, despite it's bestseller nature, but the plot of this novel sounded very promising. I was not disappointed in the slightest.

Ms. Escobar has an incredible handle on fantasy. The characters are multi-faceted with just enough background written about them to understand not only who they are, but also how their past makes their present possible.

The descriptions in regards to the scene settings reflect an attention to detail that I personally appreciate, as it helps me see the surroundings from the characters’ point of view.

The dynamic between the characters, especially when Bev is involved, is done in a believable way and never awkward (unless that is the point of course), and often with great humor.

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of the writing, especially because the pace was great even with the detail mixed in. Definitely recommend this read!

In full disclosure, I receive this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

wow this action packed super natural novel blew me off my feet, yet kept me rooted to my sofa from beginning to end! A very fast paced exciting read, with unexpected action full of twists and turns on every page! The characters of Raina and Noah are both very likeable characters and the immortal brotherhood is also a very interesting group made of very intriguing characters all with their special powers! In this first book in the series we get to encounter, immortals who die and rise again almost immediately to Raina's surprise, demons, sleazy thieves and mercenaries and the big surprise to top it all off quite near the end of the book which is the cherry on the cake! the plot is all very well planned and builds up to a fantastic crescendo and it's all tied to the seer pendant which Raina went to steal but instead has attached to her neck and cannot remove. Apparently this is her legacy, a legacy which got her parents killed and she knew nothing about. A great read, can see this turned into a fantastic action filled film too!! Have to read the rest of the series for sure!

A sister who will do anything to save her sister's life, she will do whatever needed to fund her sister's treatment.
Another sister who only wants to live a normal life, she will call forth the powers of even hell to save her own life.
A group of people who will do anything to access objects, talismans & more that will give them the power they need.
Another group who guards the lines between the humans and the Fae & will do anything to protect both worlds

What will happen when their worlds clash???

A thrilling, intriguing chase across Egypt, UK and America will keep you at the edge of your seat in this phenomenal war between the good & the bad. I've already read the 1st and the 2nd books in this series and have enjoyed it.

FAST AND FURIOUS RIDES AGAIN!!!
A wonderfully written, fast paced, easy to follow, action packed read that grab me from the first page. I was sucked right in. With so many twists and turns and surprises, it kept me glued to my seat. My eyes were focused solely on the pages, I couldn't look away. The characters are relatable and so realistic I was captivated. With such graphic detail the scenes come a live. Emotions off charts, adrenaline rushing through, heart pumping, I was cheering for the two main characters. Explosive energy and danger hanging overhead they were a force to be reckoned with. The plot was fantastic and well thought out. Everything came together beautifully, smooth flowing and mesmerizing. Alesha didn't pull any punches she totally nail it. Excellent job Alesha.

A first book interesting. In the beginning I was hooked and dived eagerly in. Yet in the middle of the book I was thinking it was lacking consistency. Some part could have been developed and not just go as little incidents. I was disappointed because I really think the world of the Brotherhood of Immortals could give much more. The encounter of Raina with the creatures in the pyramids is an example. And the ending was just coming too fast with not that much suspense.
I can still compliment the author on the characters that were very good and original. I liked them, and I think they have some starks traits that make them stand up in the genre. Their array of emotions was always relevant to the situation and their personality. We can feel their souls behind the words.

Raina Black is a woman on a mission she steals certain objects from powerful people all in the hope that she can get enough money together to help her sister with an experimental treatment for her cancer. For her next job she steals a pendant but it sticks to her, she put it around her neck and now it won’t come off. Raina finds out that the pendant is part of her family’s legacy and from there a whole new world of magic and things she never thought possible open up to her because of the pendant. That’s all I’m going to give you guys so if you want to know more then you need to get this book. A fantastic read and I really enjoyed the characters, I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Book 1 in The Immortal Brotherhood series, Raina Black is introduced with a bang. In the midst of immortals, necromancers, and the delightfully shady, Raina becomes embroiled in an immortal war.

Noah Mason lends his hot, electric hand, and the pair begin their adventurous journey.

The storyline is intriguing but falls a little short. The story could have been expanded more, and the characters more comprehensively written, as it became a little confusing, which left me feeling like parts of the story were missing.

I am a big fan of Alesha Escobar and will continue with the series, hoping for more of a glimpse to the Immortal Brotherhood.

Three and a half stars.

I received an ARC of The Immortals and this is my honest review.

She’s a thief and a spy and yup a bada$$ who sleeps good doing it. It’s all for a good cause after all. But when she decides there’s a line she won’t cross things change. . . big time. Now it’s time to put her big girl pants on cause it’s about to get real. Things she never knew existed, places she had never heard of, a past that has more questions than answers, groups and villains. Things will be revealed that will change it all. Loads of action, second guesses, lies and secrets make this an awesome read.
This is my first read by this author and I loved it. I want more and since this isn’t a standalone I will be reading more of this series. Great start to a new series.

How could you not get sucked into a world of action, Magic, and double identities. For Raina lands a job, that goes awry, did she imagine her world would be shaken upside down. Being chased by a crime lord and watching a man trying to help you die, she didn’t expect to find Noah Mason walking literally back into her life. Her life only gets stranger by the day and she is trying to figure out how reality has become fantasy. She just wants to find a cure for her sister and resume her life. This story pulled in and kept me engrossed until the end. Twists you don’t see coming and turns that make you said whoa. A fantastic addition to the urban fantasy world.

I enjoyed this book. Filled with lots of fun stuff to keep you entertained - Necromancers, Warlocks, Vampires, Demon Hunters. Raina teams up with the Immortal Brotherhood and learns about her Family legacy, the Seer Stone, with the hope to save her sister from a lethal sickness but she is not prepared for everything she encounters in the process. This story started off really strong and kept pace throughout, it tapered off a little towards the end but there is enough action and suspense to keep you reading along.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. There was definitely a lot going on in this books. I enjoyed the story but I did find at times that I had to go back and re-read some part of to make sure I did not miss something. Raina is a agent/thief who is kind out for herself. Then she wakes up in tomb and has to deal with a request to bring back a secret society. She is not on board with any of this craziness until she is made an offer she can't turn down. This flips her world all around and she has to keep her wits about her if she wants to survive this.

This felt like Assassin's Creed meets Wanted meets Da Vinci Code supernatural style. It was full of wonderfully done action scenes, information that left you puzzling things out, and more twists than a licorice stick. The possible slow-burn romance took a backseat in the book, but I look forward to seeing how it plays out. It sucked me in from page one and I can't wait to see what happens next!

3.5 stars for me. I’m on the fence about this book. I liked the unique cast of characters and would love to learn more about their powers and what they’re capable of. As far as Raina I’m not sure how I really feel about her yet.
The story itself was good full of magic, demons and warlocks but I was kind of hoping for something more.
