A Whisper In The Grass is the first book I have read of Warren Hately, and it will not be the last. Warren Hately engaged me from the start with the way he portrayed his characters and their interaction with each other throughout the book. A Whisper In the Grass is well written and researched by Warren Hately. I like the description of the settings and the way they complimented Warren Hately plot for this book.
The readers of A Whisper In The Grass will learn about the problems small rural newspapers have in surviving in small isolated Australian communities. Also, the readers of A Whisper In The Grass will learn about Flanders a district in the northern region of Belgium.
In my opinion Warren Hately has written a suburb novel with this work and would be a great movie. Attention to detail and a roller coaster ride for the reader. A nail biter.
The protagonists have to become as ruthless as those they are up against. Violence builds as the plot develops. The carefully detailed setting underpins the action to such an extent that it becomes almost like another character.
A whodunit set on the mid Western Australian coast. The lead detective, as to be expected in the genre nowadays, battles his own demons, with a surprise ending. A good Australian noir read.
This wasn’t a bad story but it was a little difficult to get through because of the Australian lingo. The other issue is that it ends in a cliff hanger and I didn’t know that.
