Falling in love was easy. Breaking up won’t be so simple.
When Shea and I were still only teenagers, we had our first baby together, months before we’d even gone on our first date. Shea was my first love. My first kiss.
My first…everything.
So when, after eighteen years of marriage, we went our separate ways, my world fell apart. It wasn’t the first time he’d broken my heart, but I’m determined it’ll be the last.
Except Shea isn’t ready to let me go.
Quitting isn’t in his blood. Every day of his life has been a fight—a fight to save his brothers, to put food on their table, to hold on to the tattered shreds of his dignity—and he’s prepared to keep fighting.
For me.
He’s hellbent on saving our marriage, but can we salvage the shattered pieces of what we once were?

“Eighteen years. The porcelain year.” Porcelain. Like a toilet. Seemed fitting.
“Is this my T-shirt?” He rumpled the cotton in his grip. “I’ve been looking everywhere for this.” “Hmm? Oh, you must’ve left it here by mistake. I sleep in it sometimes.” A smug smile curved his impossibly pouty mouth. “And I also wear it when I clean the toilets.”
“You know what’s crazy?” Sophie nudged Isobel with a soft elbow. “Your only real flaw is your perfectionism.” Isobel narrowed her eyes. “I don’t want to be friends with you anymore.”
My Review:
The Last Heartbreak was an angsty and insightful read featuring a failed marriage where both participants had starved the relationship to a skeletal level. Yet the bones hadn’t quite been picked bare. I held my breath for this deeply flawed couple, they were struggling with each other as well as their own complex issues and family dramas. While I was rooting for them I wasn’t sure they could or should find their way back to each other.
I recall feasting on the first two divinely written books of this series two years ago yet seemed to have lost track when the third and fourth books arrived. I am drawn to this family of complicated brothers as well the author’s skilled and agile style of storytelling. As with my previous experience with her work, Ms. Olle’s engaging narratives were emotive, observant, and heart squeezing with lashings of wit and sensuality – oh my, at one point I was actually gasping for breath and in desperate need of libation.
It’s clear that the MCs still love each other. They're high school sweethearts. Met when they were 16, got a surprise pregnancy at 17, and married when they were 18. They've been married for 18 years at the present time but living apart for the last two years—not divorced, just separated.
Anyway, they have some unresolved issues from their past that are impacting their relationship now. Also, it was implied that every time they interact, it just ends up in arguments. Sooo, both of them have their flaws that played a part in the problems in the marriage.
I just feel like that if Isobel hadn't had the opportunity to be featured in a magazine, these two would've never found a way to work on their marriage. With the way I see it, they both kind of give up fixing their problems. 🤷♀️
For two people who are married for almost two decades, they really struggle to communicate when it comes to the important matters. Most times, they keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves, and there are moments when they make decisions without checking in with the other. Then again, their fears are in the forefront of their minds, and these always get the best of them.
The story had a bit of angst, but it felt way too short, tbh. I think it should've given a more in-depth discussion of what went wrong with their marriage.
Obviously they talked, but it felt pretty rushed most times. They didn't spend enough time really understanding each other's hangups. They might get it to some extent, but they probably don’t fully grasp how it impacts them individually, as a couple, and as a family. I really think that when everything's out in the open and both of them finally lay it all out, things will be clearer.
Also, there wasn't really any progress with Shea and his son’s relationship. Things got strained even before he left their place, and even though they tried to fix it up a bit, it just didn’t cut it for me. I want to see some real progress on how they're working on their relationship, but unfortunately, we didn't get that.
Then there's the ending that was rushed. I didn't read the other books from this series, but I know this is the last one. I thought we’d see more, maybe a glimpse of their lives years later, but all we got was them back together and a setup for a new series.
There was an exclusive epilogue, but readers need to sign up for the newsletter to get it. I used to be fine with that, but man, that's another email subscription. Anyway, that extended epilogue jumps ahead four years to their son's college graduation.
Overall, it was okay. I just feel like this should've been longer. It's already short, and then there are these other side plots that sort of take the focus away. So yeah, I think if there were more chapters centered around the main characters, it could've really changed things up. 🤷♀️
wow this book is so amazingly awesome and emotional hurricane. What I took away from this is Shea and Isobel were young in high-school they lived together for seventeen years with three kids they were the perfectly flawed couple.
4.5 stars. I would have dropped a star for the editing issues, but it's been a loooooooong time since I last enjoyed a new book this much, I figured it deserved to be bumped up!
Never read this author before. Haven't read any of the other books in the series but definitely want to. I will say the heroine frustrated me, especially toward the end, but the hero more than made up for it. I would have liked to have read the conversation between her and her father, but at the same time I'm glad I didn't. I wasn't ready to forgive him so I really appreciated the author chose to not have every single storyline wrapped up in a pretty red bow.
Oh and Finn...yep...I DEFINITELY want to read his book when he's older lol
Blurb: Falling in love was easy, instant, and dangerously all-consuming. Breaking up won’t be so simple.
Shea and Isobel were teenagers when they had a baby together, months before they’d even gone on their first date. Now, after nearly eighteen years of marriage, the heartaches have piled one on top of the other, dousing the fire of their passion and drowning the memories of a life built together. Though he is her first and only love, two years spent living separate lives has convinced Isobel it’s time for them to let go.
Except quitting isn’t in Shea’s blood. Every day of his life has been a fight—to save his brothers, to put food on their table, to hold on to the tattered shreds of his dignity—and now he’s in for the toughest fight of them all: the battle to win back his wife. But with Isobel already one foot out the door, is it too late for their second chance at happily ever after?
Of the Nolan Brother series, I believe Last Heartbreak is my favorite. I found the characters so authentic and relatable, and the story of the gradual disconnection in a marriage so compelling, that I couldn't put this book down. And, as always, Olle writes with confidence, using her trademark wit and flair for passion that draws the reader into the world on Thief Island. I highly recommend this novel, and wait anxiously for Olle's next.
Amy Olle has done it again with this story about the Nolan brothers. We have read about each of the Nolan brothers and this story is dealing with Shea and Isobel. Shea is the oldest brother and he was the one who looked after the other brothers and tried to keep them safe from his abusive father. We have met him before in the other brothers books, but I couldn't really understand what the problem was between him and Isobel. Why were they living apart? The story really shows the depth and character of Shea. I found after reading this that he soon became my favourite brother. Don't dispare there is more surprises that happen and this won't be the last book about the Nolans. A must read series.
I really enjoyed this story, Shea, Isobel and their are such relate-able characters. Easy to see how this could play out in the real world. I would have loved for the story to explore and expand on the some of the relationships with other family members. Answer a few more questions in the wrap up. Overall I enjoyed this book and could not put it down. Can't wait to see what the author writes next.
This book has cursing (including f-bombs) and on-page sex. If those things will cause you to leave a bad review, this isn't the book for you.
While Last Heartbreak is part of a larger series and reading those might help you understand the dynamics between the characters, you DO NOT have to have read those to enjoy this one - it stands alone. (But you should read them because they're really pretty great.)
This book was so beautifully written that I didn't want to put it down to do real life things, and when I had to, I found myself thinking about these two and wondering how they would work it out without breaking each other completely. This review might read like this book was nothing but angst and heartache, but it was actually a beautifully written story about two incredible characters fighting for a second chance at love. Beyond the angst there was humor and the kind of friendship bonds that make small town books such great reads. While it is an emotional book, it is not depressing and (slight spoiler if you don't read a lot of romance/women's fic) it comes to a beautiful, hard-earned happily ever after.
While reading this book I felt like a voyeur in Shea and Isobel's relationship, and that's meant 100% as a compliment to Ms. Olle's writing skills. I was on the edge of my seat as I read, totally invested in how they met, when they fell in love with each other, what lead to their marriage, and how things all went wrong. In the previous books we had gotten glimpses into Shea and Isobel's broken marriage and the fact that they weren't happy, but in this one we were immersed in not only their current angst and the pain that they were suffering which made them both incredibly sympathetic, but we also got to feel the current of hope and love that never went away, no matter what their issues were. Although Shea could be heavy handed at times, his undeniable love for Isobel was sometimes almost painful to read – he loved her so much that it was gut-wrenching, but he struggled to make himself known without being a bit of an oaf, and it was so realistic that I just wanted to tell him to keep the faith and to ease up a little. And Isobel's own inner thoughts also made me want to hug her. She was trying to do the best that she knew how, and although I was frustrated with her at times, reading her backstory meant that I also understood where she was coming from and why she was feeling the way she did. Beyond the beautiful couple relationship between those two, one of my favorite things in this entire book was Noah's relationship with Isobel – seeing the way that those two bonded and became as close as blood siblings over the years was really something special.
THE BIG TWIST MADE ME SO INCREDIBLY HAPPY. Without spoiling anything: I was pretty sure that the reveal was going to be what it was, but I honestly didn't dare to hope. I AM SO EXCITED to see how this plays out. (And I really, really just want to spoil the crap out of this twist because I'm that excited about it.)
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a second chance romance story. Or to anyone who just enjoys a well-written story about two characters who you just know belong together from the first moment they're on the page together.
I have really enjoyed getting to know the Nolan Brothers, I mean come on how can you not. Shea was always the elusive one who dominated and was untouchable as the oldest so we never really saw him we just knew of him. Now though we see that while everyone thought it was perfect and that they were good, that they weren't. The book is emotional because slowly we are shown what's happened as each one grapples with their individual pain and for once actually hears what the other is saying. Once they start looking internally you see the shift. Shea oh Shea he bout broke my heart with all that he is. Iz going through her own revelation that her fear, if she lets it, will be her downfall. A downfall she may never recover from. They may have started off as kids but now as adults it was time to do some adulting and that meant communication, something they realized they would need to make this their last heartbreak.
Absolutely in love with this author and this series and thank God she figured out a way to give us more. Love her twist and background noise she has going on in her reads which make them all the better. If you are looking for a one dimensional read keep going, only stop here if you're ready for some realism with you coffee.
This fifth book of the Nolan Brothers series is about Shea and Isobel. They’re truly authentic, relatable and likeable characters, with real worries and problems.
They’re going through a very rough patch in their marriage, and are pulling away from each other. But, Shea will NOT give up on his wife, his marriage, and the life they’ve built together.
It’s an emotional whirlwind, and is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Definitely worth the read!
At the end of this series, all I can think of is… surely you can’t go wrong with an Irishman ;)

I've read the entire series now and although it was enjoyable I had higher hopes for this installment. Not to say it wasn't enjoyable but I found it a little drawn out, repetitive and hoped there would be more heat/passion from our leading couple (not just between the sheets). I liked Shea and although he'd made a few mistakes along the way he was really trying. She is a Latino lady and I did think her character should have had more fire than the broken girl that I was reading about. I just didn't believe she should have been as broken as she was.
This is book five in The Nolan Brothers series. This is Shea and Isobel's story. These two have a history that is longer together than separate but their marriage is in trouble of crumbling and falling apart. Shea wants to save it and will do anything and everything in his power to do so. Isobel believes it is time to let go. This story is the amazing and heartbreaking journey of how two characters find their second chance at love and happiness. Enjoy!

I really liked this. The story was good. The characters were good. I did leave with some questions and ways I wish it were different.
* We have no idea how the conversation with the brothers went about Aiden, which was annoying. * We have no idea how the conversation with her dad went … or if it changed anything- it shouldn’t have cause he didn’t care about Finn, and honestly the whole thing was unforgivable. * I have questions about Sydney * I have questions about the store and the article etc
Overall, it was good, but man Isobel upset me a lot.
I love this series. This is book 5. It can be read out of order. Isobel and Shea met when she was 14. An instant attraction formed between them until circumstances put a wedge between them. Isobel wanted to help, and Shea took it the wrong way.
Present day they're separated and have kids. Shea won't give up. It's been 2
years, and Isobel feels that they should let each other go.
I thought, I already had my favorite Nolan Brothes Story. But Shea's and Isobel's Story knocked me over. I read it in one sitting with a pile of Kleenex. My Heart realy hurt for Shea and Isobel. Amy told this story so realistic, raw and with her talent for expressing emotions that at some points I wanted to shake some courage into Isobel and buy Shea some glases. This story is so mature, so real-life full of fears, love, guilt, passion.
This is the first book I will read by this author, and this is real good. It tugs at my heart all through the day. Even though the heroine tried my patience, it was kind of okay. I tried to see things from her point of view, after all she was only a child when she got pregnant. It is good to read what comes after HEA. It was real, and painful, but, heart warming. Borrowed through Kindle Unlimited.
My favorite book about the Nolan Brothers ! I didn’t think Shea would turn out to be my favorite brother, but he is ! His and Isobel’s story was so real and heartbreaking! Very emotional and at times frustrating! I wanted to shake some sense into them at times and cry with them at others. Really loved it !
I love Sheas and Isobels story! 💕 It's heartbreaking. Emotional. Real. Full of love and the will to fight. Because of Amys wonderful writing style that brings the characters to life I could feel their inner turmoil and doubts and I suffered with both. Can't wait to read more of the Nolan brothers! 😊
I really wanted to rate it as five stars but couldn't because the poor editing irritated me. Loved the book but I am the grammar police when I read. I would definitely read other books by Amy Olle and definitely recommend this book, but she needs someone to do a better job with the editing!
This is about Isabel and Shea. He's the one who kept all the brothers together but being married so young, an having a child right away. They find themselves married for 18 years and things are not going as well as they hoped it was a beautiful story. An now thanks goodness there's more to come can't wait!
Shea & Isobel have been in rocking grounds and things are coming to a head. Isobel would love to do more with her dress designs and has sold a few but things in her head keep telling herself she isn't good enough. She's needs a way to get her back. The twist and turns in this story are great with a few new surprises. Can't wait to read more.
Last Heartbreak is the fifth book in A Nolan Brothers series and is an emotional second chance romance.
Isobel and Shea are wonderful characters that have got through a lot in their young lives and are unhappily married. Will Shea be able to break down Isobel's walls and win her back?
I have lived this series. Every single book. I wasn't sure what to expect from Shea and shovels book. We had seen hints of their struggles and issues through all the other books and I am happy to say it was a wonderful journey. I can't wait for more from Amy
Great story! I appreciated the love between these two as well as the pressures and insecurities they experienced. Both were dealt a crappy hand but made their family a success after a LOT of trials and growing up. One hint for everyone in love: communicate, communicate, and then communicate!
This is the final book in the series. This one focuses on Isobel and Shea. Their story just drew me in and I was hooked. They have overcome real life problems and they just tug at your heartstrings. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a hot steamy erotic romance story perfect for a quick afternoon read. A great heart pounding read. The story was very well written with great characters. It drew me in and I had it finished in one sitting. I would highly recommend this read.
It is a beautiful love story! Love conquers all! Early marriage is not easy! But love conquers all!! Communication is a significant factor for better understanding! Read the book! You won’t regret it!! Can’t wait for the story of Finn!
