Haven Hart #3

A Dangerous Dance

Rate this book
Finally working for a man he can trust has given Bill a new purpose. His boss, Christopher Manos, commands respect and absolute loyalty, and Bill has proven himself worthy of a seat at Christopher’s table. Becoming best friends with Christopher’s husband, Snow, has further proven his allegiance and cements a place for him in the Manos family. When Snow’s life is in danger, Christopher places his full trust in Bill to destroy anything and anyone that poses a threat to his husband. But hunting and wiping out the enemy for the safety of everyone Bill cares about means partnering with the one person he has vowed to never see again. Mace wears a mask of vain cockiness and uses his model good looks to his full advantage. Known to many as Without a Trace Mace, he’s a deadly assassin well known for wiping out whole families and getting away without a trace. With a dangerous past and an unknown future, Mace uses his veil of conceit to keep others at a distance, rarely trusting anyone. When his boss, Black--the one man he trusts above all others—gives him his next assignment, he learns his newest partner is none other than Bill, the man he’d do anything to avoid. With the safety of the Manos family on the line at the hands of a brilliant maniac, Bill and Mace begrudgingly put their differences aside to ensure Snow, and his loved ones, are protected from harm. With their lives in grave danger and the clock ticking towards zero hour, they navigate deathly perilous situations and uncertain outcomes, hoping they survive long enough to keep the Manos family safe. Bill and Mace’s traitorous hearts draw them closer together no matter how hard they fight the inevitable. With the lives of their loved ones hanging in the balance, they find themselves in the middle of a dangerous dance. But when the music stops, will they both be left standing?

This is another brilliant addition to the Haven's Hart series from Davidson King and possibly my favourite of the three.

There's not much better than an enemies to lovers trope done well and that's what you get here. Although it's probably more accurate to call them associates rather than enemies as there was always that frisson of interest while they were whinging at each other!

The suspense element of this is paced perfectly, the villain not too over the top insanely powerful but also not a chump either and it's definitely a good sense of accomplishment when he gets his just deserts.

This one is probably a bit more tight in the narrative as it focuses down onto mostly Bill and Mace and their efforts to kill the guy threatening Snow.

In between, the two guys get a little bit more physical then either expected and it was such a hot scene discovering Mace's willingness to submit and bend a knee for Bill.

Their relationship is actually pretty sweet and the ending and epilogue were so gorgeous.

Now, what do we know about Quill and the mysterious Mr Black...

We are back in the world of mob bosses, Christopher Manos, the Marks family, and more.
**** Assassins Bill and Marks are assigned an extremely important task. Bill is Snow's friend, works for Christopher, and while the Manos family goes into to hiding,
he'll be hunting.
* Bill, hard, tough, fierce, ruthless and loyal,

will be on the deadly job with Mr. Black's lead killer,

* Mace, who's stealth, wild, fearless and brooding.

These two haven't gotten along, but here they will. Plus, once they learn each other's past stories, things change. Their attraction explodes into raw, hard, dirty, powerful, lusty sex and they fight the strange feelings they have.
Theirs is not a hand holding,
lovey-dovey mushy romance, n o p e !

All Hell breaks loose when their target hits back; a war is on.

We see intense action, brutal torture, with escapes, searching, and finally rescues.

Never a dull moment here. Wow !

Our author gives us this action packed thriller, with a side of a M/M relationship we rarely see, and a few items we can look forward to. It amazes me that this is only about the fourth book she's written.
I highly recommend this book. ENJOY !

Life with Mace was never dull. Every second was perfect. He irritated me as much as he owned my heart and soul.

Knowing Mace had been a dangerous dance. One I’d do forever without complaint as long as I knew he was my partner.

Mace laughed when I pulled him into a fireman’s carry and ran as fast as I could to the bedroom.

I feel a little like Goldilocks when it comes to these books. Minus the blonde hair, bears, porridge, beds etc. But you get the gist.
The first book was too soft and fluffy for a mafia read. But I liked the characters.
The next book was still light and the story was lacking. But I liked the characters.
This one was...

So again I liked both Bill and Mace, the way they were with each other and the sex scenes were hot and sweet.
It’s just again I had issues with the story and I didn’t like that they were out manoeuvred at every turn. They just seemed to bumble through but I didn’t like it.

And don’t get me started on Black he’s a complete and utter arsehole. But Quill is cute and intriguing so I can’t wait for their story.

This is a true enemy-to-lovers story. You could feel hate emanating in waves from Bill and Mace in the beginning of the book. How are they going to work together without shooting each other? It is a clear case of judging a book by its cover. That's what they both did - they assumed things about one another and based their feelings on them. The road to success and love is paved with blood, bones and bullets. The time is running out, everybody is angry and a little bit scared.

Bill was a loner but in Snow he found his family and he will die to protect it. Mace is an enigma. He is one tough guy with secrets he keeps close to his chest. In order to complete their mission they will have to band together and in doing so many truths are uncovered and both their eyes are open to the possibility that they misjudged one another. And they realize how thin the line between hatred and love is.

The book is thrilling, keeps you on edge. It's fast-paced, steamy and emotional. It's the right kind of crazy, vicious and tender. The end is a sacrifice. Who will walk away unscathed and who will die? Who will win? There is no going back when you are are up against the wall. So good! I loved it. I highly recommend it!

Vicious, violent, brutal, ruthless and unconditional commitment.... these are the head words to describe this story.
When you are known with this Haven Hart Universe series... then you know Snow... dear Snow who holds everyone in his spell, dear Snow who always talks to the heart.
Snow was the main subject but not really... it was all about Bill and Mace.

They hate and admire each other, and now have to work together for one important case...
Keep people safe at all times and without any terms.

The structure of this read is amazingly done, build on strong pillars. For the ones who just rolled in part three without reading the first two (are there?) a few important points are explained, clever woven into the first chapters to understand how and why we are at this point.

It’s fast paced told by Bill’s and Mace’s their pov and good god I just had the feeling I was running, hiding, hunt and plot with them, it was so captivating and vivid.

I loved it how this was again completely different but also inseparable from the other two of this series. I loved the dark environments, the dark subject but also the mellow, vulnerable and emotional sides in this read. All the men had the most strong personalities, strong like you hate them and strong like you love them.

Between all those dangerous men with big mouths I just cried silently because damn.. there are layers with hurt and feelings, Bill and Mace..holy cow do they have a story to tell, a superb one.

Bill and Mace

With Dangerous Dance , we get deeper into the ins and outs of working as a professional assassin and for a Mafia organization. And folks, it isn't a walk in the park!

Bill and Mace go through very intense and cringe worthy situations, where their lives are in constant danger and upheaval . Yet, somehow , in the middle of chaos and deaths , two lonely and damaged men , find a reason to live for.

I enjoyed reading this entertaining , enemies to lovers , non stop action adventure , romance story.

I loved this book!!!

I really do think that everyone should read every single book in this Haven Hart series. Book one "Snow Falling" will always be my absolute favorite, Cause of Snow... But these books just keep getting better as we get each new one that comes out.

So far every book in this series has stolen a piece of my heart in different ways. The writing and storyline are beyond entertaining and interesting to read about. This one, just like the two others before it pulls you right in from the very start and you wont want to set this book down.

I love the characters Mace & Bill and their explosive interactions with each other, especially when their feelings turn from hate to heat. I mean what could be better than an intense hired killer and a mafia enforcer trying to keep his friends safe from harm. I really appreciate getting a chance to see how Bill and Snow's relationship has developed over time as well, I really like how that aspect is installed in this story as well. And like the last two books this one isn't really dark either. While we do get to see the ruthless and protective side of these men we also get to see what others don't; them being vulnerable in their relationship together too.

I Cannot wait for the next book and I really hope we get to see where Quill and Black are headed and if they end up together or not, I can only imagine how well that will go over from what we know of those two so far.

This is my favourite of this series so far. The pairing between an Mace, an assassin and Bill, a mafia thug is perfection. Author tends to pair assassin with goody people and I'm glad to see that Bill got someone who is as scary as him.

I don't remember Bill hating Mace in Hug It Out, when Bill got partnered up with Mace for a mission, his disdained for the man was surprising. I find that Mace is pretty chill about everything, but can be irritating as fuck at the same time and Bill can't stand him. Bill is more straight laced in a thuggish way, while Mace seems more cunning and villainy.

Seeing these two alpha males trying to one up the other is really interesting. Their chemistry is undeniable and incredibly hot. The thing with alpha male is they don't talk about their feelings and whenever they have an intimate moment, they look away and change the subject. Is kind of hilarious to see them both growing feelings for each other.

The suspense was very well crafted as well. We have a maniac who wanted to hunt down Snow. Mace and Bill were tasked to off him and we were thrown into a game of cat and mouse. There are parts whereby I'm holding my breathe praying for their safety. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this latest instalment for Haven Heart Universe. I wonder will we get a book for Black. That unfeeling monster deserve some love too.

So many plot-holes, too much tell and not enough show, there weren't even any "I love you-s" so the HEA was practically non-existent as well [though the HFN was passable and it's heavily implied they get their future together, so yeah, HFN for sure], and all in all this was JUST okay!! Lots of info was left out too, which makes me wonder if it's because it was sloppily done or if it's just the growing pains of a new author!! Meh! Like I said, just okay!! I AM intrigued by Black's story (with Quill) and I want a follow up with Christopher and Snow - I anticipate those two books being much better than books 2 and 3 in this series!! Crossing fingers, toes, and whatnot ... so we shall see!!

This one is darker than the others

Darker, real violence and a psychotic sociopath.

But, it lost me in the middle. Meandering assassin and crime boss’s muscle. Neither gave the impression they were good at what they did.

Their relationship building worked, the chase didn’t.

MAce and Bills book!

I loved how action-packed this book was but I wish more page time was given to the new couple instead of the epilogue. My romantic heart needed more!!

Once again, the story was not perfect and characters made very questionable choices but it was still enjoyable overall.

WOW. This was a bit intense than the the first two.

Was this my favorite couple? I haven't decided yet. I still love Snow and Chris more but that latter part broke my heart a bit. Definitely hot AND dangerous.

The plot though? My goodness! This series is getting better and better so far. I got excited with Quill and Poe's reappearance from Book 3 but NOW we have the Hart's heir mentioned and things just got a little more mysterious with Haven Hart and these 'families'.

I can't wait to read more! 😍😍😍

Consigliato ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

A Dangerous Dance is the third in the Haven Hart universe, behind Snow Falling and Hug It Out. Despite thoroughly enjoying Snow Falling, I was less impressed with Hug It Out. So I wasn’t sure what to expect with A Dangerous Dance and what I got is a great romance and some really conflicting acts of violence. We’ve met Bill and Mace before and throughout this book we learn the truth of their troubled pasts and gain a greater insight into what drives them forward. They’re a good couple, not exactly cuddly and soft, but I wouldn’t expect two stone cold killers to be filled with the warm fuzzies. They’re rough and violent men who have a strange but powerful sense of loyalty to one another and their employers. They fit one another and if their romance is far from traditional, then that suits them as well.

Still the same.. epilogue is waaaaay to short, I wished we had more of them being a loving couple, but eh guess it won’t be their thing.

Can’t wait for Black and Quills book!!!

3.5 stars

I will say the abrupt ending lowered the rating for me. Haha I was so ready for the epilogue to be at least 5-10 pages longer but no it just ended and sat there like, “ummm Ms. King... do you know the book can’t be finished right now?!”

But other than that shock (that for some reason I can’t get over) I enjoyed Bill and Mace they were the perfect yin yang relationship. But I still think Christopher and Snow are my favorite so far out of the three books so far.

I wished this story was longer... but hey Black’s story is next soo I am not complaining I can’t wait to get in to his head!

3.5 for another solid installment... I’m warming to these characters and Bill & Mace proved to be a fire cracker of a pair. While working together to kill off a lunatic, their relationship of love / hate continued to develop until their mutual heat and need for each other overtook everything else. It’s nice to see even bad guys find their happy !

Audiobook review

If you've read (or listened to) this series from the beginning you might remember Bill; goon for the sleazebag from the first book who's head was offered as payment. Now he's fiercely loyal to and protective of Snow and has earned the trust of Christopher Manos, his new boss. When a threat against Snow reaches them, Bill is tasked to take care of it. But the task is bigger and more dangerous than one man can accomplish, so he will need to work with a man he can't stand - Mace.

This book was a bit darker than the previous books. It wasn't all dark - far from it, but parts were definitely more explicit than I expected. I do like it when books surprises me though and there are few things I like less than when everything is smooth sails all the way through.

The chemistry between Bill and Mace is great. From that animosity seeping through every word and look in the beginning. Then slowly changes to a simmering heat that you know will end with one epic explosion. I liked their dance around each other, it was fun. As with the previous books in this series, don't expect something credible. Suspend all beliefs and listen (or read) it for the great entertainment they are and you'll come out of it one happy reader at the end.

I had one main issue with this book and that was actually on the technical side. A Dangerous Dance is narrated by Philip Alces and Joel Leslie, alternating chapters depending on which main character was narrating. That part all works out really great, and more on that in a bit, however it's painfully obvious that they are using different equipment and settings as the volume changes each time. Which has the listener lowering or increasing the volume each time they switch off. And it's not a minor volume difference but one will hurt your ears and the other is barely audible. I really wished that had been corrected in editing.

As for the narration itself I am a big fan. Joel Leslie is a great narrator who captures the characters and moments just right. He takes you into their world and makes you experience it all with the characters. And while he might not be my first choice of narrator for assassins and criminals he does it really well. Though I do prefer him for the lighter contemporary romances - and his historical romances (but those are m/f so I'm speaking quietly about them).

Philip Alces has the perfect voice for this kind of book and characters. It's rougher and deeper - I'm a huge fan of it. He doesn't quite compare to Leslie's ability to truly emerge you into the story, but he's not that far off. Their dual narration worked really well for this book - and this series in general - and I'm looking forward to see what else they have in store.

A Dangerous Dance by Davidson King was a great continuation from Snow Falling but I missed the second book Hugging It Out, but that will be rectified in a minute.

Bill and Mace had an enemies to lovers vibe going on It was impressive how she weaved their hatred into slow burning love. I hope she continues this series with a book about Black and Quill. The more the merrier, I say.

Really loved this installment of Davidson King's Haven Hart Universe series. Bill and Mace developed a passionate relationship while looking for an enemy intent on harming Snow's family. Both men who previously held nothing but animosity towards each other. Such a great read.

Now of course I will be fiending for the next installment.
