Threats to the free world never end. Their job is never done.
At a luxury resort on the coast of Uruguay, Jessica Petrovich and a select team of Black Flagged operatives prepare to kill Dr. Anatoly Reznikov, the elusive bioweapons scientist responsible for designing and selling a lethal virus to America’s enemies. At the same time, a Mossad assassination cell moves on a Russian mafiya boss believed to have offered Reznikov’s bioweapons to the Iranians.
There's only one problem--BOTH TARGETS ARE LOCATED IN THE SAME HOTEL SUITE, and neither team knows the other is coming!
Covenant takes place between books 4 and 5 of the Black Flagged Series.
Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. His extensive journey spanned the globe, including a two-year tour of duty in Japan and travel to more than twenty countries throughout Asia and the Middle East.
From enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq as a maritime boarding officer in the Arabian Gulf, to directing aircraft bombing runs and naval gunfire strikes as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) assigned to a specialized Marine Corps unit, Steven's "in-house" experience with a wide range of regular and elite military units brings a unique authenticity to his thrillers.
He still wakes up at "zero dark thirty" to write for most of the day. When "off duty," he spends as much time as possible outdoors or travelling with his family--and dog.

Daniel and Jessica Petrovich along with more of General Terence Sanders’s elite Black Flagged operatives are preparing to take down Dr. Anatoly Reznikov once and for all. As the most dangerous bioweapons scientist in the world Dr. Reznikov has been captured and liberated more often than a cat with nine lives. The Mossad has a team going after Reznikov’s handler. Both groups are targeting the same place at the same time. Neither knows the other is there. The fireworks are about to begin!
Konkoly’s latest entry into The Black Flagged Series, COVENANT: A Black Ops Thriller, book 4.5 is right on target. It has all the thrill and suspense you’ve come to expect with this series. Fast-paced action, well-developed characters, and a Russian mafia are all packed into this novella. It is also professionally edited.
This story focuses more on Jessica’s character. While not a back story it does show you how she processes a situation out of the norm for an op. I was not originally a fan of the cold-blooded killers that the Petrovichs are. Konkoly has made them likable and somewhat normal.
Konkoly strength in writing is his ability to set up and execute field operation action plots. He does this really well, and it is the bulk of this books story.
The story was is so poor that it's embarrassing. Did Stevo have to make a deadline or was he in some desperate need for the very small amount of revenue this book produced.
Nevertheless, it was an insult to our intelligence and has left a "brown" smear in his reputation. Almost the entire book was just an all out gun battle. The first gun fight is [approx] half the book and the second is the last quarter.
At least it was short.
And this is what his fans thought of it:-
4 star ratings only had 3 reviews 5 star ratings only had 7 reviews - and this was my favourite: I wish to thank Steven Konkoly for the free readers copy. In return I offer this completely unbiased review. “Yeah Right”
It's unusual to find a book marked 4.5 in a series of 5 (so far). Having read the first 4 and in the beginnings of 5, it was an easy step to get into this. Having just critiqued another series where there was a great deal of backstory, I will say that the same applies here. Without having read prior material most of this will devolve into simply a series of shoot-em-ups for the reader.
The major failing is the minimal character development. They are all the same at the end as they were at the beginning (unless they'e been killed off.).
Other than that, I read it in one sitting and now can almost remember it. Nothing earth-shaking, just action.
This short by Steven Konkoly is just what we would expect from him. Assassins at their best going after a long time foe. The whole gang is squeezed into this fantastic novella, the Petrovich's, Colonel Sanderson, Karl Berg, Alexei Kaparov, plus a whole smattering of other well known assassins. And, not to mention the bad guys! So much going on for such a short story. Not much time to take a breath with all the action happening. What an enjoyable read.

This novella is not on par with the rest of the series. It is lacking in storyline and depth. It is only useful to read as there a few referrals to it in book 5 of the series. At least it is short. Even the action is done poorly. It takes under an hour to read and I’d feel like I could have missed something if I didn’t read it. I hope this does portend to a future confrontation with the Mossad.
This v4.5 was mercifully short, but still packed with a lot of action, shooting, cutting, grenades, etc. The inclusion of a foreign shoot-‘em-up team only muddied the waters, distracting from the ‘real’ story (where the latter was just an intermediate after-thought between Volumes #4 and #5 of the series).
Decent but with another somewhat dissapointing ending
I really like the black flagged series, but the last 3 books (prequel, book 5 and this one all start great but seem to end poorly in that they seem to rush to the end and end without a satisfying conclusion. I am hoping book 6 reverses this trend as it is ruining the series for me.
A blacks ops operation with Mossad that Omega hadn't planned on. Mossad is holding one of their key operators hostage until the mission is complete. This is a fast paced novella. Enjoyed immensely!
Here we are treated to a relatively short story chronicling another attempt by Black Flag operatives to finally close the case on Anatoly Reznikov. Black Flag’s smoothest operator, Jessica Petrovich is on hand with a small team to put an end to Reznikov’s long string of luck.
Konkoly writes a fast paced, very believable, action filled story! Placed in our time, it paints a believable story of behind the scenes action being played out under our normal everyday lives. Well worth the cash and the time .
Another segment of the ongoing saga of the Russian scientist gone very bad. Once again the so called experts in American black ops fail to get their man and the Mosad fumble the ball.
This is an expansion of something mentioned in book 5 and it's about what someone would expect to read at this point. Solid but not spectacular like books 3 and 4.
Eh, OK, but no where near as good as the last two. This is a short installment with a new set of characters and little time to develop them. Also, the idea that Mossad agents would willing capture and kill a US agent to gain leverage on an op is not credible. The blow back of such an act is unimaginable. But, the story continues and is a good read.
