Sad end to an engrossing series!
I am so very thankful to the author, Gretta Curran Browne, for her very human portrayal of this magnanimous gentleman, Lord Byron.
The finale to this extraordinarily insightful book on the life and works of Lord Byron includes letters, quotations and poetry as written by this very gifted, eccentric man. He lived his life "his way" unapologetically as his every move was mercilessly scrutinized by his adoring, or otherwise envious, public. What a shame his life was so short.
Having previously not known much about Lord Byron other than some of his poetic works, this series has been of enormous interest to me as the author meticulously lays out the evidence of a most gifted, passionate, loving, paternal, brave, intelligent and generous-to-a-fault being who have all of himself to the world. His love of his children, friends, animals, sister and the fight to break the chains of enslavement in Italy and Greece are as equal to his personal/private love of his beloved Teresa. The tragic circumstances that constantly snapped at his heels never heeded his endeavors to better everyone else's lives be it lowly servant, starving citizen, any strays he had knowledge of or his friends, colleagues and love.
To put it bluntly, this man put his money where his mouth was including physically putting his life in danger for causes he championed verbally and in writing. Yet Byron was a very modest man as the reader will find in this amazingly written biography of his life.
I laughed many times as I read through the antics, practical jokes and satirical poetry. I cried as if he died yesterday. This author is to be commended on such a thoroughly investigated portrayal.
Needless to say, I absolutely recommend to readers of historical fiction. This is the life story of a man told so very humanly it is priceless in historical as well as identifying a true humanitarian.
