Four months ago, Jo Clarke and her friend Lizzy McGowan stole an airship in Amprad and flew off to see the world. Now they're out of money. But when they down a blimp to rob it, they get much more than they bargained for. Someone has already shot the passengers. Only one wounded young man survives and he's not talking - except to lie. All Jo and Lizzy salvage are some coded paper that hint about a powerful weapon - a weapon sought after by the emperor of Ampra, the king of Hule and the notorious air pirate Keez. If Jo and Lizzy turn the weapon over to Amprad or Hule, they'll be pardoned for air piracy. They'll also start a war. The only way to avoid war is to join up with the cold-hearted Captain Keez - and steal the very weapon everyone wants.
Packed with intrigue and adventure, SKYTOWN is a super fun read. Fast friends Lizzy McGowan and Jo Clarke are doing quite well airship pirating (thank you very much) until fate intervenes. A blimp take-down goes a bit hinky, and when they save a young man named Dominic--well, Delios, that's entirely OTHER story--they end up complicit in secrets they don't quite understand. Then Captain Keez arrives and things REALLY go sideways...whoops! Better stop there before I give too much away.
An engaging page-turner that had me laughing and cheering and staying up late at night to see what was going to happen next. Grab a copy of SKYTOWN and gobble it down--you won't regret it, I promise!
What starts out as a lighthearted aeronautical romp perhaps aimed at a younger market actually has several darker moments and plenty of blood and gunfire, with a chase-led plot that barrels through to a satisfying climax. The brief chapters help to make this a fast-paced read, and it's a relief to read something not quite so relentlessly grim and world-destroying for a change.
