During that time, he flew counter-narcotic missions in the Eastern Pacific and counter-piracy missions off the Horn of Africa. He was a flight instructor in Pensacola, FL, and helped to run ship and flight operations while embarked on a nuclear aircraft carrier deployed in the Middle East.

Max Fend is an international playboy, the son of an avionics billionaire. He also used to be a spy. Now out of the business, he's taking steps to take over the family business, when he's framed for corporate espionage, and has to get to the bottom of things. He recruits a former girlfriend, who just happens to be a hacker to assist.
There are a few surprises here, and the action stays fast and furious.

Once again Andrew Watts has created a hit filled with action, foreign intrigue, multiple intelligence agencies, cutting edge aviation technology and a little love interest thrown in for good measure. Just the idea of pilotless commercial aircraft could make for a great story, but when you add in foreign interests and various intelligence agencies it just get that much better.
His new character Max Fend is well developed and quite believable. I'm looking forward to reading more Max Fend books in the future.

This was my first time to read this author – and I was most pleasantly surprised!! This is a whole new fresh thriller series for me, and I intend to read more of him soon! Not sure why he isn’t more widely followed, as in my mind his story-line, intensity and writing skills are in the same class as Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills, Brad Thor, Daniel Silva and David Baldacci. Great book!!

No need to look over your shoulder the future is here in front of your eyes! This tale is fiction but is so realistic it is almost impossible to set down ... once you start do not make any plans. It is a captivating tale inclusive of todays realities, terrorism, brutal criminal organisations that reach across the globe, domestic and foreign intelligence services, switch back plots with countless possibilities, brutal murders, assassination attempts, edge of the cliff fight for your life action, car and motorcycle chases, cutting edge aviation innovations and so much more. The scenarios are not only plausible but many are already in use today and others just a heartbeat from going into production soon regarding (AI) assisted commercial auto pilot capabilities, ballistic chutes on light aircraft, drone and driverless car technology (these last two are not in the book but are a reality), the list goes on and on. So if realism is important to you ... this is the one! I can not wait to see this adaptation on the big screen, it has that potential. I was provided with a complimentary copy with no strings attached and I happily give this review. Enjoy ...wow what an impact!

Course, you can't help but include the alphabet soup agencies and all of America's enemies who want this technology at any cost. The plot is twisted, action is swift and quick. Thanks for a great read.

Too simplistic
This did not have the grit or twists I expect from a thriller. Every character--especially the protagonist, Max Fend--was one-dimensional and not at all sympathetic. I might have enjoyed this book in sixth grade, but it seriously lacks depth for an adult audience.

"MI-6--if that's indeed who they were--leads me to believe that there was more to come in terms of evidence against me. The man who helped me to escape warned me not to let myself get taken into custody. He informed me that someone was trying to set me up. Knowing that I was innocent, his advice seemed of high quality. Plus, I tend to believe folks like that."
"Folks like what?"

~~A drone airplane being tested in Iceland, which I imagine looks similar to the Fend 100. However, Watts takes a fictional leap by putting passengers in his Fend Aerospace drone.
Meet Max Fend--he's young, good looking, and just recently returned to the States after spending several post-college years partying it up in Europe. His father, Charles Fend, is the powerful CEO of Fend Aerospace, an already successful corporation that is now poised to win the NextGen drone contract with the US government. Charles entertains hopes that his son will retire his play-boy persona, and accept a position at the aerospace company. If nothing else, it would reduce the embarrassing tabloid pictures.
But mere days before the 100% drone piloted passenger aircraft, Fend 100, is set to make it's maiden flight up the coast of Florida, the Fend Aerospace computer system is hacked. Suspicions and theories abound, and the FBI is called in to investigate the threat level this hack could pose. As the dust begins to settle, it looks like Max could have had a hand in the hack. He made some unsavory Eastern European friends while overseas. But why would he hack his own father's company. He appears to be sabotaging his own future! And who exactly is helping him elude the FBI? There is clearly more at play here then just some simple hacker high-jinx.
My two cents: Watts has given us an interesting thriller premise, centered around emerging drone technology. Unfortunately, his prose fails to live up to the promise of his plot. Max is a flat character, and his support cast isn't much better. There are a few twists and turns to the story arc, but they are easy to spot for anyone who isn't new to the thriller genre. Given 2 stars or a rating of "average". Recommended only as a library check out.

P!ease hire an editor
Parts of the story were exciting and compelling; however, the continual editorial errors and punctuation errors became so annoying, I almost didn't finish the book. I won't look for more titles by this author who boasts he churns out a new novel every few months. Slow down a bit and spend time with a professional editor. The story itself is fine.

Max Fend has potential and maybe he will develop as an action hero, but he is definitely not there yet. The young Mitch Rapp was much more interesting as was the young John Rain. In both these characters, we see mistakes, such as Max makes, but we see Rapp and Rain learning from them. Also, it feels like I am learning more reading a Flynn/Mills, Eisler, Baldacci, or Childs book; Watts alludes to AI as a technology but we learn nothing about it, nor about spy craft.

Getting into it and am enjoying the characters. Max Fend’s unfolding character is the type of guy I enjoy. The story line is also very interesting, investigating cyber hacking. Then I see a moment of stupidity that Watt could have avoided creating, with Max learning something and still walking right in? Why do it? Max was smarter, and now he gets a case of the dumbs? Oh well, it all works out, I just don’t like character flaws. Good book. 5

Andrew Watts, finished Glidepath last night. Great job, one of those rare books that I could not put down and had to keep reading to the end.

Excellent! I can't wait for the next one!
I loved the War Planner series and have been hooked on Watts style of seduction and espionage since then. Glidepath is a combination of boy next door meets Bruce Wayne and James Bond. I am looking forward to several books with the Fend family.

I read this book through the Prime Read program. What a great book. Once I began the story I couldn't put it down, it was so good.
The story begins with one of Max's informants meeting with a Russian who wanted info on Fend Aerospace.and how to access their data center. This individual would not take no for an answer and once her got what he wanted, Sergei the informant was dispatched. As a result of this action, Max got implicated in a data breach at Fend, a company his father was the major stockholder of and its' CFO.
Go forward in the story and Max and his father are eating when all of a sudden, the FBI wants to talk with Max about the breach. Max agrees to go and gives a statement of his time there. Eventually, an individual who says he is Max's lawyer arrives and he and Max leave. As they are leaving, Jake Flynn received what he was waiting for and then made an effort to arrest Max. The lawyer sped off before this could be done and a chase started to apprehend him. Max was able to get away.
Max decided to look into who was really responsible and contacted Renee, a former associate and girlfriend of his to help him. After Renee eventually was obtain the information needed, they began their move to stop what the Russian wanted to do.
To learn who initially helped Max, how Max was cleared by the FBI and what events Max and Renee were involved in and what exactly the purpose of the breach was, then you need to read this book. You won't be disappointed as I said earlier.

This story had both some good and some less enjoyable elements for me.
As a techno thriller, it posed some questions about what threats could result from the use of AI technology in commercial aviation. There was also an element of espionage that was a bit of a throwback to the Cold War era that I enjoyed. The pacing moved the story quickly.
As a lead character, Max Fend frustrated me in many of the same ways I was disappointed by the emergence of Jack Ryan Jr. as a focus of stories. I just did not feel the character was either likeable enough or multidimensional enough to be the focus of the story. While the threat in the story was cleverly hidden, I also didn’t find the arch villain to be as believable a global threat to lift the overall rating of the story. The surrounding characters each felt as if put in place to meet the criteria of the genre, but I wish at least a couple of them were more developed so as to feel as if there was a team element. I know this is the first book in a series, so perhaps future installments may flesh out the characters, but I don’t know that I’ll seek them out.

A little work
I was glad to see this author go in the direction of a series character but as much as I like the story line and the authors commitment to detailed story telling, I was left unimpressed with the max character and the Renee character. Max in my option did not have a commanding presence. He did not capture me like a Mitch Rapp or a Jack Reacher character. A d his past resume did not lend itself to a person that could actually engage a d win against a tier one operator, there should have been better character development. In my option Max is not in their league. I will read the next book to see how he develops button not very optimistic I can see him in the same light as the other characters in this genera.

The premise of this book was a good one but the execution could have done with a little work. There was one twist which I thought was very obvious from the beginning and the narrative style was, in places, a little too direct. This was noticeable from the very first page, where a character's life story was summarised for the reader as part of narration. It would have been more effective to have this information come out organically, rather than have the reader feel like the plot was being interrupted so the narrator could tell us things. That said, I enjoyed the story and finished the book quickly. If crime/espionage thrillers are your sort of thing, it's worth giving it a try.

really enjoyed the novel-right up to the end. No spoiler here. However, it seemed like the author just decided that the story should end and wrapped everything up in a chapter or two. The ending was a bit unsatisfactory as there was a big lack of motivation for a pivotal character's actions. I don't want to give away too much - you'll know what I mean when you get there.
Overall, a pleasant read. I like Andrew Watts so this was a little bit of a disappointment. Hopefully, the next novel will be a little tighter.

Suppose one of the largest air craft companies in the world was able to develop a commercial plane that could completely fly itself. Suppose some really bad guys, Russian maybe, wanted to steal the technology and blame the theft on the owner's son. There are an unlimited number of outcomes that could result and this story takes you through several of them. Very well thought out plot line and interesting reading! Looking forward to the next one.

I enjoy a thriller but I love a mystery! I figured out the villain but not their ties! Having lived in jax area, it was almost like old home week! Very good story, good references, good read! We are 114 years since two bicycle repairmen flew for the first time and with all our interventions, this book is very believable, when you look at the google cars!

Good book… can't wait to see what Max Fend will be up to next. The AI controlled plane plot is a sign of the future and a warning, think of "Skynet". Nice twists and turns, but some are predictable. Fun, fast read. This was my first book by Andrew Watts, which made me want to read more from him. I couldn’t what for the sequel, so I just got the 3 book set of “The War Planners Series”, hope they are as good.

This is a well-written and fast paced book about espionage and cyber attacks. The world's first autonomous commercial airliner is getting ready to take off when Max Fend discovers something is horribly wrong. The plane is suddenly out of the control of the company that made it. Who is now controlling it and what do they want. This is a book you won't want to put down as you read faster and faster!

Although I finished this book I didn't really enjoy it. All a bit contrived for me. A whodunit is not this authors strong skill set. It was all a bit obvious and I pegged early on who the bad guys/girls were. The author also needs entering into the really bad hero naming club. With two characters, a corporation and a plane all called Fend it got a bit much. Having to read the name Fend 40 times per chapter gets a bit tiring. The espionage back story is also very weak and contrived.

Developing new aircraft instruments is especially interesting when they fly a plane from take-off roll to taxiing to the terminal. Many twists and turns along the way, with an interesting sub-plot involving a foreign agent or two. Holds your attention and moves at a good pace.

This is a decent thriller, but Max Fend doesn't live up to the hype of being as good as Jason Bourne. He's certainly brave enough, but he's careless and unskilled compared to Bourne (either the one by Ludlum, or the movie character). I'll read more books by the author if they are available on Kindle Unlimited, but I wouldn't want to pay for them.

Interesting
I don't usually read spy novels anymore but I thought I'd give this a try. The writing was smart and the scenes believable. The stock spy characters weren't bad and without getting a lot further into the book, you never know where their development if any, leads.
I guess that I'm not ready to tackle spy novels again. I didn't finish it.

Mixed Bag of Spies
This story would be thrilling for a bit, and then a smart, trained operative would choose to walk into a trap, or send his partner out of a cleared area and allow capture. Even the story's news media know the CIA is operating in the USA. And she isn't carrying her phone because her hands are full?

An exciting thriller!
I love action and adventure thrillers and Glidepath had it all. It kept my interest throughout the book even through moving and unpacking chores. As soon as I completed my reading, I immediately went online to acquire the second book in the series. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Unfortunate
Book had great pacing, but lacked a lot of attention to detail. Lots of technical information was subtly wrong or hand-waved away and many events unfolded in unbelievable ways. Characters were also very bland and simply served the overall plot. Author has a good grasp on story structure, but probably needs to do a lot more research for future novels.

Great book!
If you like a good mystery and some edge of your seat maneuvering, you'll like this book. It's another peek into the world of spies. Many of these folks move in the shadows and this book gives you a chance to follow them. Really enjoyed a good ending. Sometimes the bad guys do get what's coming to them!
