All the stories in the Second Chances series were terrific. These books were great reads and definitely capture the reader in the storylines, but that wouldn't work if she didn't have good characters. They were real, they where honest, they could be me, or you, or your best friend. All have troubles to overcome, some common and some not so typical.
I absolutely love this author. I don’t think that I’ve read a single piece of her work that hasn’t held me captive. This series definitely holds up to that standard.
Rough Edges
Allie is newly divorced and wants a fresh start to her life. She wants a job to add to the income from her own business so when her mother tells her that Braden needs a secretary for his woodshop, she applies for the position. It was hard for her to ask him for a job because she had crushed on him in high school and never forgot him. But when she applies Braden tells her he doesn't need a secretary. He regrets it immediately. He remembered the feelings he had and, still has, for Allie and didn't want to mess up the chance to get to know her again. The next day Braden went to Allie's house and hired her. He just hoped he could handle seeing her every day. Allie loves her teenage daughters to bits but teens aren't easy to live with. They were very different from each other. One was is hard to like since she never said anything nice to anyone while the other is sweet and kind.
Mending Hearts
This is not your typical romance since it's about a couple who have been married for ten years and separated for one year. They badly want children but remain childless. This is devastating for the wife, Candice, making her feel like she was a failure to her husband because she could not give him the family she thought she should be able to provide. When their attempts to get pregnant weren't successful, they tried adoption. When that failed too, Candice believed she had to divorce her husband, Logan, so he could find someone who could give him children.
This is a very emotional story that makes you think about relationships and how marriage can be so hard. It shows how important communication is between couples. It's much easier to go through hard times when you have someone you know you can rely on and talk to.
Fresh Starts
Bree's stalker is about to be released from prison. In order to keep her safe, her brother moves her to property far from where she lives. Leaving her two children with her ex-husband, she goes into hiding. She didn't know that her brother also hired a man to protect her. While at her brother's property, she is managing his orchard. Working there helps her blend in so she wouldn't raise suspicions. She met up with Greyson, who she knew in high school. They were immediately attracted to each other. Little did she know, he was the person her brother had hired to protect her.
This romantic suspense is exciting and easy to get caught up in. You can feel the fear Bree had about the stalker finding her and the romantic feelings between Bree and Greyson will have you smiling.
