He Will Find You by Diane Jeffrey is a Psychological thriller that had me hooked from the first page. Kaitlyn sees an old school friend on Facebook and sends him a friends request. They start messaging each other and after a whirlwind romance they marry. She soon finds that she has made a very big mistake, her life becomes a story of manipulation, self doubt and lies. I enjoyed this book even though I guessed most of the twists. I would like to thank NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Diane Jeffrey was born and raised in North Devon, UK, but now lives in Lyon, France with her family. Her debut psychological thriller "Those Who Lie", was a Kindle bestseller in the USA, Canada and Australia and in the top 100 Kindle books in the UK. She is an English teacher and enjoys both reading and writing as well chocolate, beer and holidays! Her books are perfect for those who enjoy Sandie Jones and BA Paris.
"He Will Find You" is Jeffrey's second novel set in the Lake District and Somerset and the beautiful settings are one of the things that attracted me to this book, especially the Lake District locations as I live close to Cumbria just over the border in Northumberland. If i'm honest, it took me a while to get into the story but once I was I enjoyed it immensely. You are always on red alert as you cannot completely trust any of the characters and their development was excellent. Alex is a particularly evil individual and when his wife realises he is hiding a multitude of secrets from her she asks him to tell her the truth. Having denied her she resolves to find them out for herself.
Thrilling and well paced, this is a great domestic thriller that becomes increasingly dark as time goes on. I am glad I stuck with it so if you find you're not loving it as much as predicted, keep reading a little longer as it becomes more suspenseful in the second half. The denouement was a satisfying and fitting conclusion to the story.
Many thank to HQ Digital for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Disappointing domestic noir - disjointed, poorly written with minimal originality.
Despite the ludicrous premise being a big ask for readers to swallow and necessitating a heavy suspension of disbelief, I was hopeful for a fast-paced and atmospheric psychological thriller. Sadly this wasn’t it and He Will Find You proved to be a familiar story of a woman discovering the skeletons hidden in the closet of her new husband and the next two-hundred pages following a predictable course of gaslighting, silent phone calls, manipulation, coercive control, dark looks and menacing behaviour. There is very little new added to what is a routine story with a weak-willed female protagonist without an ounce of common sense supposedly holding a doctorate and lecturing at a university! Tension is seriously lacking due to the pathetic lead character behaving submissively from they get-go who for a woman of thirty-eight-years-old is irritatingly naive, until she suddenly develops a backbone in time for the rousing final one-hundred pages. Then, lo and behold, a rushed ending packs in multiple twists and the supposed events become too far-fetched to make for compelling or plausible reading matter.
The story starts strongly with Kaitlyn Best seeing her new home for the first time and Diane Jeffrey’s skimming over the events that preceded it with a summary of how a Facebook friend request nine months earlier reconnected Kaitlyn with enigmatic school heartthrob, Alex Riley, who she last saw as a teenager. A one-night stand, unplanned pregnancy and rash decision to leave her boyfriend of a decade and move to the other end of the country sees Kaitlyn pulling up outside an austere, isolated and sprawling Georgian house in the Lake District to begin a new life with Alex and their expected baby. Despite having seen Alex only once in the past twenty years it is only on arrival that Kaitlyn starts to realise just what a monumental decision she has made and begins to have her first nagging doubts. In no short order Kaitlyn’s concerns start to solidify with Alex’s secretive behaviour, unwillingness to discuss specific topics, offhand manner and controlling nature giving her a glimpse of the darker side to the man she has chosen to make a life with. For some reason Kaitlyn does not confront these concerns and she displays absolutely no curiosity even once her suspicions becomes aroused with the reader led to believe that she forgets about a sealed cardboard box and does not even bother reading the name of the hidden medication that she stumbles upon in her husband’s drink cabinet. These are just two of the occurrences which never really rang true and even when Kaitlyn’s narrative gives a passing mention to her concern that her new friend, Vicky, does not work at the company she claims, she fails to investigate or follow her instincts, Soon gormless Kaitlyn is giving Alex the benefit of the doubt, defending him yet starting to fear just what he might be capable of. Given that Kaitlyn has had a previous serious relationship and life experience her acceptance of Alex’s all or nothing behaviour (smothering or dismissive), rather bemused me.
Disappointingly Diane Jeffrey never takes the opportunity to seriously explore the psychological make-up of Alex or develop his character and he remains a rather shadowy figure throughout what is a relatively short novel. Likewise there is little rationale given for Kaitlyn’s decision to leave her partner, abandon her old life and commit to a man who she has not seen since her school days except that she was “stuck in a rut” and there was little passion in her old relationship. Although He Will Find You is written in the first-person and should therefore easily allow the reader to sympathise with Kaitlyn’s predicament, the disjointed writing style makes this difficult. The path the narrative follows lacks continuity and disrupts the readers flow with Kaitlyn’s detailing a days events in excessive detail only to then fast-forward several weeks. It is difficult to invest in her plight and it all feels like a contrived sequence of just about every example of domestic abuse imaginable with the glossing over of weeks making a mockery of what should be a toxic and claustrophobic environment to live in. I found Kaitlyn’s narrative repetitive and given the first two-hundred pages have been done to death in a multitude of psychological thrillers I found it rather dreary and very formulaic. The uneven pace does not help with the first two-thirds detailing Alex’s behaviour and the events in Kaitlyn’s new life dragging and overly descriptive and the last third feeling condensed and happening at breakneck speed.
A mediocre domestic thriller in a genre saturated by far more superior examples of what has become a commonplace scenario of a woman learning the true nature of the man she has chosen to make a life with. Hardly groundbreaking but undoubtedly an easy and quick read.
My first piece of advice to you, if you’re planning on picking up this book, is to make sure you have plenty of time set aside to read it. Don’t do what I did, which is to start it in bed at half 10 at night as you will then be a very tired and grumpy reader the next day having stayed up till half 2 in the morning avidly reading this gripping thriller! But OMG it was so worth it!
There comes a time in your life as a parent that you have to hope you’ve given your children a good enough upbringing for them to make their own informed decisions that you proudly support. But I have to admit that I would really have had to bite my tongue if, like Kaitlyn, one of my kids packed up their entire life to go and live with someone they had only physically met once since their schooldays. Fair enough plenty happened in that one encounter (as Kaitlyn is now pregnant) but the internet is an untrustworthy medium for a truthful relationship and that is how their entire courtship is conducted. So when they finally start living together, things don’t go quite as smoothly as they were hoping!
Diane Jeffrey has really upped her game with this, her second novel. I was constantly on edge throughout as she really did rack up the tension between Kaitlyn and Alex. The gloomy atmosphere of Kaitlyn’s new home made it feel incredibly spooky, as though there were ghosts hiding around every corner, and as the dark clouds appeared on the horizon of this relationship I mentally prepared myself for the storm ahead. There were twists that made such a natural entrance into the narrative that they created a real sense of surprise for me and, as I said before, I was gripped enough to want to read this in one entire sitting. It was just so addictive!
So my second piece of advice to you is….make sure you check out Diane Jeffreys books if you’ve never read them before! I have enjoyed both of them now but He Will Find You just has the edge over Those Who Lie for me. It had the perfect pacing for a page turning psychological thriller in my eyes and I absolutely loved it!
Hey, the title ‘He Will Find You’ hits you as soon as you read it and you get an idea just by those 4 words that this is going to a tense psychological thriller....it conjures up a picture of what lies ahead...
Kaitlyn is bored...she sends a friend request on Facebook to Alex, an old school friend she sees on mutual friends threads, she had a ‘thing’ for him....he accepts....after a string of emails ( that you see ) and FaceTime chats they meet and have a ‘one night stand’ in a hotel......from that moment Kaitlyns life will never be the same again...Alex is not as he seems, he couldn’t be further away from the image he gives people....Kaitlyn finds this out as her life turns into one big living nightmare, her heaven has turned to hell.. You are drawn into the story by the authors great writing style and feel the pain, horror, worry, anxiety and determination of Kaitlyn as she faces the opposite of what she expected her ‘happily ever after’ to be The book has many twists and turns and keeps you hooked throughout, you never quite know what is going to happen except that ‘He Will Find You’...... Gripping, scary, atmospheric and worryingly believable, I loved it 😃 10/10 5 stars
I’ve wanted to read this book for so long and I’m so thankful I did. I was hooked by this book and was desperate to find out what happened. Throughout the book it reminded me of the book behind closed doors which is one of my favourite books. I felt so bad for Kaitlyn going through all she did and especially whilst being pregnant and having a newborn. I won’t reveal what happened in the book but I would definitely recommend it as it was excellent.
This was a tense domestic thriller but sadly I had some problems with it.
After Kaitlyn reconnects with an old classmate and becomes pregnant, she decides to uproot her life in Somerset and move in with Alex in the Lake District. Alex seems like the perfect guy, but after they get married, he starts to change. Is he really the man Kaitlyn thinks he is?
Kaitlyn was a kindhearted and good protagonist but I found that she was way to trusting. Maybe I’m just not very trusting, but it’s one thing to have a one night stand with someone you barely know, but living with them? On the other side of the country? Why?
Alex was pure evil. Seeing him turn from this nice guy to this controlling and manipulative monster so quickly was quite scary. Mainly because it does happen. He was so secretive and cold, abusive and calculating that it was horrible to read Kaitlyn suffer.
It took awhile for me to get into it, but when I did it was thrilling and tense and so very creepy. Sadly I did have some problems with this book.
Firstly, Alex’s emails. To me, they came across as very creepy and even stalkerish (I don’t think that’s a word but oh well). Alex proposed to Kaitlyn via email. WHO DOES THAT? If I were on the receiving end of these emails I would be spooked not flattered, but maybe that’s just me?
Secondly, I really want to know what happened with Alex’s daughters, Poppy and Violet and their mother. Throughout parts of this book you are made to believe Alex has done something to them. Then you find out he hasn’t buried their bodies in the backyard but you don’t find out anything else. What happened to them? Where are they?
Thirdly, Hannah takes Chloe’s hair for DNA testing without Kaitlyn’s knowledge. While the outcome of this was very good, if I were Kaitlyn, I would be furious that Hannah thought she had the right to do this. While she had good reason to believe that Alex was not Chloe’s father, what gave her the right to test the DNA of a child that wasn’t hers?
My last issue with this book was that I felt the ending was really rushed. During the ‘showdown’ between Alex and Kaitlyn, I felt both of them were really rushed and could have been longer. Also, I really don’t understand why they didn’t just call the police after Kaitlyn killed Alex. They had proof that he assaulted and held her captive, so they had no reason to believe it was anything but self defence.
Overall this was a decent domestic thriller, I just wish I had liked it more than I did.

OMG This could really happen This gets in your head and worms its way round and round A great read - uncomfortable at times due to the subject matter of domestic abuse - but very cleverly done
This is a psychological thriller/domestic noir. Kaitlyn is coming out of a long term relationship and discovers she is pregnant after hooking up with an old school friend. She then makes the astonishing decision to pack up her life and move north to live with Alex the old school friend. They have been communicating via email. Quite frankly the emails would have been enough to put me off him, creepy and clingy!!!
Anyway it soon transpires that Alex isn't all he is cracked up to be. He is controlling and abusive and Kaitlyn's lovely dreamy life begins to crumble. There are triggers of domestic abuse in this book.
Kaitlyn becomes isolated and dependent on Alex. Whilst the storyline was good and Alex was a great bad guy I did have some issues with it. If a friend of mine took hair from my baby without permission for a DNA sample I am sure I would be extremely angry. Secondly what actually happened to the first wife and the daughters. I felt some questions were unanswered.
Kaitlyn isn't happy with her partner and when she meets her teenage crush Alex again, she has a one-night-stand with him. When she finds out she's pregnant they start a whirlwind romance and she decides to leave everyone she loves behind to move in with Alex in a completely different part of the country. Alex lives in The Old Vicarage, a large house in the Lake District. As soon as Kaitlyn enters the place she feels uncomfortable. There's no homely feel and Kaitlyn briefly wonders if she's made a mistake. How well does she know the man she's moved in with and is supposed to get married to?
Alex is secretive and can be controlling, but he also regularly surprises Kaitlyn with a gift or a romantic outing. She can never let down her guard when she's with him though. Kaitlyn is about to become a mother and to find out more about the man she's going to have a baby with, she decides it's time to search the house. What will she uncover? Is Alex the kindhearted man he wants her to believe he is and is Kaitlyn safe with him?
He Will Find You is a fantastic gripping story. Kaitlyn and Alex haven't been together long when they decide to get married. Kaitlyn's pregnancy leads to quick decisions that are exciting, but also scary. Kaitlyn is a kindhearted woman and she deserves a loving and caring husband. Alex appears to be perfect, but he almost seems to good to be true. Kaitlyn never feels completely at ease while living with him. She has many questions and Alex doesn't provide any useful answers. Slowly Kaitlyn discovers the truth and finding out what that was kept me on the edge of my seat.
Diane Jeffrey has a great compelling writing style. He Will Find You is fast-paced and difficult to put down. It's filled with unexpected twists and turns and plenty of suspense. I love it when a book grabs me immediately. I read He Will Find You in one sitting and was completely captivated by Kaitlyn's situation, I couldn't stop reading. Diane Jeffrey completely spellbound me. She has written a magnificent thrilling story with a terrific oppressive atmosphere and an amazing bone-chilling plot. I highly recommend He Will Find You, it has the exact right creepiness factor.
Kaitlyn Best, after having a one night stand with her school crush, Alex Riley, discovers she is pregnant. Within quick succession she finds herself married and living with him at his house, The Old Vicarage, miles from her home town of Somerset. She finds herself becoming increasingly more isolated from the family she has left behind, and notices Alex beginning to change. Should this be a cause for concern, or is Alex’s protective nature harmless?
It’s been quite a while since I’ve felt gripped by a novel, and this one really did grip me. Diane’s writing is phenomenal and I really felt such a rollercoaster of emotions as I progressed through this book! Kaitlyn was a great protagonist and I really felt every emotion with her.
The number of twists and turns in this book is astounding. I didn’t guess any of them which is unusual, but very welcomed! Domestic thrillers can all seem very ‘samey’ if not done correctly but this novel’s originally is fantastic.
The only thing I did think, however, was that the ending felt a little rushed compared to the rest of the novel. I think I would have liked a little more to it - but I wouldn’t say this put me off.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When Kaitlyn Best sends a friend request to old school crush Alex Riley, she doesn’t expect him to accept it, let alone the conversations with him that follow. Alex is kind, funny and charming, exactly the person she remembers. Gradually their new friendship grows into something more. When Kaitlyn discovers she is pregnant, she agrees to move in with Alex at The Old Vicarage in Grasmeer, a home that has been in his family for years. It will be a fresh start. A new life for the happy family. A way of banishing all her bad memories and beginning again. Alex will be the best father their baby could possibly have. He will be supportive and caring, there every step of the way.
When he proposes, Kaitlyn immediately says yes, visualising the happy life stretching out before her. Their wedding goes without a hitch. Surrounded by their friends and family, life seems perfect. But it is too good to be true. Realisation is about to cut that mirage in two. And the world Kaitlyn has built will crumble.
Things begin to go down hill on her wedding day. At first Kaitlyn thinks it’s just emotions running high but slowly she begins to dawn on her that it is so much worse than that. I think Kaitlyn rushed into the relationship because she wanted to be happy. She suffered a terrible loss as a young girl and this coupled with a recent break up with ex-boyfriend Kevin, who she never quite clicked with, left her wanting a fresh start with someone new. I really felt for Kaitlyn as Alex began to change. The mask slipped, her life splintered. And she had to face all of this, caring for her baby. It’s very emotional to read.
Diane Jeffrey explores some very strong themes, one of which being domestic abuse, which has a huge emotional impact on the reader. She delves into the psychology of her characters and depicts them with searing prose. He Will Find You is a fast-paced, chilling psychological thriller that will steal your breath away.
This was a cracking story. It drew me in from the first page and had me hooked throughout. I made some guesses of what I thought was going to happen but they turned out wrong! I really enjoyed this psychological thriller and look forward to reading more by this author.
This is another great page turner and another great thriller which plays on the universal themes of jealousy, obsession and fear.
Kaitlyn is a likeable protagonist. Jeffrey has created a character which readers can relate to - she's lovely, kind, straightforward and trusting. We are pleased to find her in love, starting a new life with a man who seems to be the answer to all her problems and maybe even the man from her dreams. It's exciting and we are caught up with the fresh start and the beginning of this new journey but, we've read the title and we know our thrillers - and Jeffrey does not disappoint. We also hear the concerns from Kaitlyn's friends which although supporting their friend's new relationship, there is a sense of trepidation - a nagging worry that even Kaitlyn can't quite ignore. There's a melancholic air to some of the passages, there's a lingering sense of threat and there's that 'I-can't-quite-put-my-finger-on-it-but-something's-not-qutie-right' feeling which unsettles the reader from the beginning.
Jeffrey's writing is full of pace. She drives the story forward and we are whisked along as events unfold and Kaitlyn finds herself further and further into this new life with a man she suddenly realises she did not know as well as she thought. I liked that we kept moving through the action as it created a sense that Kaitlyn wasn't quite in control of her destiny and that sense that you set off on one course of action and very quickly find yourself in much further than you imagined, struggling to slow down or even grasp fully what's happened or where things went wrong. Jeffrey captures the dynamics and relationship between Kaitlyn and Alex very well and I loved the moments when after dropping his guard and revealing his true self, he tries to excuse, cover up or justify his actions. The reader is as torn as Kaitlyn - well, until things really take a much darker and deadly turn for the worse. When Kaitlyn realises the seriousness and true horror of her situation, things become more urgent, more intense and the writing rattles along towards the dramatic conclusion.
This is a great read and perfect for fans of the domestic noir and the psychological thriller. It's got pace, tension and suspense and the last third of the book is full of shock, danger and really steps up what is at stake. The characters are believable, the friendships well depicted and the dialogue always realistic. This is a great page turner and a great book to read over the weekend or a holiday. The pages are as chilling as the title suggests. Recommend!
The first thing I will say about this book is that I had to suspend disbelief a little too much for my liking, and whilst the beginning few chapters of the book were believable and built suspense, the latter chapters were pretty far-fetched. Anything too far-fetched for me and at odds with a likely reality means I don’t really enjoy a book. I was quite disappointed by the ending here, but I enjoyed the writing style therefore I persevered.
The premise here is that Kaitlyn meets an old school friend on Facebook after finding each other on Facebook, and what quickly develops is a relationship and a pregnancy. Kaitlyn moves North to live with her new partner, but very quickly she discovers some concerning aspects of his personality and she begins to have regrets. I think the plot is fairly predictable from the plot summary.
He Will Find You is the second psychological thriller from Diane Jeffrey. I enjoyed reading her first novel, Those Who Lie, so I was interested to see what she had come up with for her next book.
We follow Kaitlyn who after having a one night stand with her former school crush, Alex, begins a relationship with him and in the matter of a few short weeks they are married. But the best news for Kaitlyn is when she finds out that she is pregnant. After the vows have been exchanged and the marriage certificate signed, Alex begins to change leaving Kaitlyn in an unnerving situation. And soon she begins to fear for both her safety and her daughter’s.
Diane Jeffrey explores the effects of psychological abuse as well as physical in her latest book. When Kaitlyn arrives at her new home The Old Vicarage, eager and excited to begin her new life, I straight away felt that this was all too good to be true. Alex is a cold and calculating character who knows how to manipulate people and a situation. As I began to find out more about him my opinion of him did keep changing, particularly as we begin to understand the trauma he suffered in his past. This is how Diane keeps up the suspense, is he going to do something terrible, is he going to keep his promises to Kaitlyn?
We also learn details of Alex’s former relationships and that he has two daughters from a previous marriage, Poppy and Violet. But little more is said about them and this intrigues and frightens Kaitlyn. Why doesn’t he have a relationship with them, why are there no photographs of his children around the house? Just what is Alex capable of?
For me I think the pace in the novel did increase more after Chloe was born and this is where I found the plot to become tense and more gripping. At the start I was intrigued by Kaitlyn’s decision to marry Alex so quickly and I became invested in her character as this was a very big decision for her. In the first half of the novel there are some parts in the story which really hit the reader but it is quieter than the second half. We do however get to see Kaitlyn’s character develop and this is essential, I think, in helping us to understand her and the predicament she is now in. Diane conveys this well in her writing by giving us hints of what is to come, especially in scenes when Alex’s personality begins to change and also by allowing us into the inner workings of Kaitlyn’s mind as she starts to question her marriage. Towards the end there were some surprising twists that I didn’t see coming and one in particular really gave me chills, I just had to keep reading to the end to find out what was going to happen. If you’re a fan of domestic noir novels then I definitely recommend this book.
This is a story where once you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down! He will Find You is a brilliantly written gripping novel with dark elements and unexpected twists that will pull you in from the first page and have you desperate to find out what happens. It's a story that will have you intrigued and absorbed from the very beginning, I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to reading more from Diane Jeffrey.
When main character Kaitlyn Best reconnects with her old high school crush Alex on Facebook, sparks fly. He seems like the perfect guy — or at least perfect for her. When Katie ends up pregnant after their in-person hookup, she accepts Alex’s proposal of marriage and moves hours away from her friends, family, and career to be with him. However, from the second she arrives at his home, she senses something’s not right. Alex doesn’t ‘feel’ like the man she fell in love with online. It’s not long before his controlling behavior and unprovoked anger toward her prove that he’s not. He’s far more dangerous. But will she figure it out before it’s too late?
Tense, frightening, and completely consuming, “He Will Find You” by Diane Jeffrey is a domestic noir novel that explores the terrifying progression of controlling, abusive relationships through the characters of Kaitlyn and Alex. Accurately replicating the anxiety, fear, and self-doubt felt by the abused — as well as the common behaviors of abusers– it can be difficult to read at times if you’ve ever been through something similar. Yet, it’s nearly impossible to put down.
Author Diane Jeffrey has a talent for writing stories that unravel slowly while moving along at a brisk pace. In her debut, “Those Who Lie” she did so through continual twists. In “He Will Find You” she uses steadily-building suspense. You want Kaitlyn to leave Alex. You mentally will her to leave Alex. You might even want to scream at her to leave. Each chapter is more chilling until the book reaches its disturbing climax. But it’s not over yet. While all books in this genre have a shocking final twist, this one will bowl you over.
“He Will Find You” was hard for me to review compared to other books. Usually, I jot down notes as I read to remember things I want to mention later, but I got swept away by this one. I lost track of time and place and forgot I was reading! To me, that’s the mark of a truly great book.
I couldn’t really fault Kaitlyn for wanting to give it a go with a man she falls pregnant to after one night. The Old Vicarage and the surrounding area, sounded such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Alex seems charming and it looks like her life will be all rosy. As we get to see more of the relationship between Alex and Kaityln though, without a doubt, rosy is the last thing that this marriage is going to be.
Suspense and intrigue is round every corner throughout the story. There were certainly some things I didn’t see coming of which really keeps the reader on their toes. I loved Kaitlyn’s family, who are a great support network, of which you don’t always see in this genre of book. Alex, I grew to dislike the more I got to know him.
He Will Find You is a truly gripping read that draws you in and holds you there. With little twists here and there, it sure does make for a page turner of a read of which I read in two sittings. My first book by the author and certainly won’t be my last.
My thanks to the author for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Totally loved this book and had me wanting to read and read. Totally addictive that will keep you reading for hours
Kaitlyn leaves her boyfriend for a man she went to school with and got pregnant from a one night stand with him. What think she’s is the perfect relationship it all soon changes once Kaitlyn and Alex marry. Is Alex who Kaitlyn thought he was? Dark, twisted secrets come out. Self-doubt and condition overrides Kaitlyn. When will it end. Well it all gets worse, before it gets better
The fact that the main character let her husband treat her so shitty and controlling for so long infuriated me and made me not want to continue reading it. I actually hated this book
I really loved this author's debut "Those Who Lie" when I read it last year so I was quite excited to get my hands on this, her follow up book. I say excited, I also mean scared, scared it wouldn't meet my, admittedly quite high, expectations. Well... I'm very pleased to report that, yup, loved this one too! Kaitlyn is in a bit of a rut in her life. So she does what I guess the majority of us do on occasion and starts to think about people from her past and sends a Facebook friend request to old friend Alex who she spies popping up on others' timelines. After a bit of a flirt on email and FaceTime, they meet up and have a liaison in a hotel, the events of which leave her pregnant. So, cutting to the chase, up she gets and leaves her life to move in with him. But the reality of what she finds there, living with Alex, is not the future she imagined for herself. Not. At. All. And, as Alex's true character starts to come out, the tension rises until, eventually, her every nightmare is realised, with shocking repercussions. I know I should be thinking - well Kaitlyn, you made your bed, you gotta lie in it (quite literally!) - and I did to a certain extent. But then, as more of the nasty side of Alex started to come through, I just wanted to scream at her to swallow her pride, admit her mistake, and run. Oh my days, what a nasty nasty person, and some of the things he does... well, you'll have to discover them yourself. Love really can be blind sometimes, especially when it strikes as quickly as it did for Kaitlyn. Woods and trees and all that. As well as the main shenanigans going on with Alex and Kaitlyn, we have quite the dynamic going on between other characters, some of which also have interesting things going on in their own lives, making for a veritable supporting cast whose own stories complemented and added substance to the main plot perfectly. I'm being deliberately oblique in my review here for obvious reasons but it would be remiss of me to not give them some kind of a mention, even just in passing. Indeed, there were some characters that were full of surprises when push came to shove. It's dark and claustrophobic and very very compelling reading that really did grip me from the first page and kept me hostage throughout. I'm glad I read it on a day off work with nothing really pressing in my life that couldn't wait til I'd finished. There are absolutely no wasted words or superfluous padding and the pacing is darned near perfect for the genre. Luckily the author did give me the odd lighter moment for me to have a bit of a breather and prepare myself for the uptick in tension that followed. All in all, a great follow up to what was one of my favourite debuts of last year. I'm definitely keeping my eye open for the next one. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Great suspenseful tale. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, have a baby, girl leaves all her family behind so has no support, boy turns out not to be who he first seems - this may all sound like one of your usual psychological suspense tales but here you meet Alex who is another kind of evil altogether....... This was such a good read that I finished it within 24 hours, followed the author on Facebook and am now planning to purchase her first book. I really recommend this book! Thank you to the author, her publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this in advance.
I loved this book! It was full of twists, turns, and thrills! Diane keeps you on the edge of your seat. Both of her books are amazing. She is great in writing psychological thrillers. I highly recommend her and am anxious to read more! XXX
With thanks to Netgalley for the book in exchange for an honest review. I thought this was an excellent psychological thriller, so good I had to read it in one day. It was tense and taut throughout and very well thought out. An excellent read and highly recommended.
I have a confession to make. This is slowly becoming a habit. Although I have Diane’s first book ‘Those Who Lie’ on my mountainous ‘To Be Read’ pile, I haven’t actually read it yet. Sorry Diane. I love discovering new authors and I eagerly dived into ‘He Will Find You’. Blinking Nora it was certainly a read and a half. I absolutely loved it but more about that in a bit. It took me a little while to warm to Kaitlyn. I can’t put my finger on why that is because it’s not as if she did anything to upset me. I got that she wanted to live a happy life and that she thought that she would find happiness with Alex. For goodness sake, she hadn’t known him long before she left her old life behind to move in with Alex. She was certainly naïve and accepted Alex at face value. Of course the fact that she found herself to be pregnant after a one night stand with Alex complicates things ever so slightly. As for Alex well I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him. He appears nice, kind and gentle but he sometimes lets his mask slip and he ends up showing his true personality. He is loving and attentive on the surface but he struck me as a control freak. Every so often a book comes along that grabs me by the throat (well not literally because that would be weird) and keeps my attention throughout the story. I couldn’t believe how good this book was. The story hit the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. It didn’t take me long at all to get into this book. I had my own suspicions about certain characters and what would happen in their story and I was keen to read on and on to see if I would be proved right or not. In some respects I was right but in others I wasn’t. I became completely absorbed in the book and reading it became a serious addiction. The more I read, the more I got into the book and the quicker the pages were turning. Before I knew what was happening I got to the end of the book. I had mixed feelings about finishing the book. Don’t get me wrong I was pleased to finish because I knew how the story ended but I was enjoying the author’s writing style, the story and the characters so much that I just wanted the book to continue. Reading this book was much like being on a very scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with no idea of where you are going to end up and with more than one surprise along the way. There were more twists and turns in this book than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board. The tension level in this book tootles along at a gentle pace but after a while the tension gradually increases and builds before ending with a tense and dramatic conclusion. To conclude, I really, really enjoyed reading ‘He Will Find You’ and I definitely recommend that you read it. Fans of psychological thrillers will particularly enjoy it. I can’t wait to read what comes next from Diane Jeffrey but in the meantime I will definitely be reading her first book. The score on the Ginger Book Geek is a well deserved 5* out of 5*.
My Review: Wow!!!!! Loved!!!!! Let this book be a warning and make sure you know the person you are with and don’t rush into anything. Take you time and really think about if this is what you want. This author is no stranger to me. I’ve read another book by her and loved that one as well. This book had it all. What wasn’t there to love is the real question. I loved all the characters and how they fit so well into the story. The story line was believable and I could be something that could have happened to any one of us. I really immersed myself in it and it made me wonder what I would do in that same exact situation. That ending shocked me at one point and I couldn’t believe what what I was reading. There was only one thing I didn’t like and that was there was a small mystery in the book that wasn’t solved. I would’ve liked the author to tell us what happened but that’s ok. It didn’t affect the main story line. I would definitely recommend this authors book and I can’t wait to read more of them.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to Diane Jeffrey, HQ Digital and Netgalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy in return for an honest review, This book introduces us to Kaitlyn who begins an online relationship with Alex, whom she knew from school, many years ago. Despite being in a relationship, Kaitlyn meets with Alex and becomes pregnant. After ending her current relationship, Alex proposes and Kaitlyn leaves the security of her family in Minehead to move to the Lake District to begin a new life as Alex's wife. From as early as the wedding night we begin to see a different side to Alex, than he presented himself to be, during their earlier online relationship. A classic case of psychological abuse begins with small things, for which, excuses are made then escalation.. Despite doubts the relationship continues. We soon see multiple examples of manipulation, undermining cofidence, controlling and deceptive behaviour, Alex even being complicit in the diagnosis of post natal depression.. Yet still Kaitlyn feels love for Alex, until there is evidence that he has been drugging their baby daughter. This is the turning point and she intends to leave Alex. We then see dramatic changes in Alex's behavioiur leaving Kaitlyn in immediate danger. A friend she has met is hiding secrets, but she comes to the rescue aiding Kaitlyn and her daughter Chloe in their escape. The book is fast paced and gripping with the ending revealing years old secrets and a death. It is a very enjoyable book, fast paced and a page turner, Every step of the way the psychological abuse builds and the reader is left hating Alex, and urging Kaitlyn to escape her abuser. A very good read and great addition to the psychological thriller genre,
