From the world of NYT and USA Today bestselling author, Aurora Rose Reynolds. See how the Mayson clan began. You've read their sons' stories, now it's James and Susan's turn. Experience the boom all over again in this action-packed novella of insta-love and suspense from Author CP Smith.

“What if I’d never broken down on the side of the road?”
Images looped in my mind’s eye like a movie on a spool, pulling me back toward the past. Me in my nurse’s cap after moving to Murfreesboro. James in his uniform, a sexy smirk masking his features as he leaned against my car. The old convertible Mustang I used to drive recklessly. They all swam together in a collage of my life.
I fought the onslaught, as well as sleep, but eventually I drifted to that place where memories and dreams collided—both the good and the bad—and pushed back against them, trying to avoid the darkest moments of my past. But sometimes, no matter how hard you tried to forget, the past demanded to be revisited—if only to appreciate what life had given you.

Until Susan, by C.P. Smith, is part of the Happily Ever Alpha World. This is my second book by this author but HOLY WOW! I was not prepared for the amazingness of this book! I was riveted from the very beginning. This is how James and Susan Mayson got their start. And it was everything!!

Susan Elizabeth Montgomery Mayson and James Mayson have been married for twenty eight years, have four sons, and are blissfully happy. This book is how Susan reminisces about how she and James got their start. We jump back to the summer of 1985. Susan has only been a nurse for the local hospital for a couple of months in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She’s tired and hungry when her car gets a flat. And the sexiest man she’s ever seen comes to her aid. Only this man has a reputation with the ladies. One she wants no part of, no matter how dedicated he is to his pursuit of her.

“I knew he was dangerous to my senses, but I was wrong. He was lethal.”

James Mayson was the deputy sheriff of Murfreesboro when he first laid eyes on Susan and he knew! Boom! That was it. She was his. She just didn’t know it yet.

“What do Susans look like? Like warm fires, Christmas morning, and the first snowfall of the season. Susans look like home, hearth and family.”

This book was just everything. James was everything! He checked off every one of my perfect hero boxes. He was all alpha, jealous/possessive, bossy, grumpy but had a heart as big as his house when it came to Susan. Their chemistry was white hot! But there is also SO MUCH suspense in this book. I don’t know how the author managed to put so much in this short story! I couldn’t put it down. Every time I read one of these books, I swear it is my favorite. Well, right now, I just don’t know how any of them could top James. But I guess we’ll see if that holds when I start the next one!

“He was wild. Untamed. And it was beautiful. All of it.”

100% SAFE

Back in 2013 Aurora Rose Reynolds wrote a book about an Alpha male who fell in love. His BOOM! walked into his life and with that one book, a dynasty began. 16 of us have now taken on the responsibility of continuing the rich legacy of the BOOM! I adored writing James and Susan Mayson's HEA because every great family starts somewhere, and all of those boys had to learn to be the way they are from a Grade A, prime example. So, dear readers, I give you James Trevor Mayson. The original, arrogant, bossy, full-of-himself MAYSON!!!

It's Live!

Another Hit

I have always been head over heals for James and Susan Mayson. I would venture to say that for me, this was the most anticipated story of the series, the "crown jewel " if you will. Who better to deliver the matriarch and patriarch of the Mayson clan, than CP Smith. Her ability to bring the alpha was a must have for the original Mayson alpha male. She poured her heart into this book and it was evident. The standard was set high and she showed us exactly where those boys got it. I loved the 80's references!

HERO~ James Mayson - the original Mayson alpha. The father of the notorious Mayson boys. He was brave and protective. He knew the minute he saw Susan that she was his #boom. In true alpha fashion, he went after her, no holds barred and got his girl. There was nothing he wouldn't do for the love of his life.

HEROINE~ Susan was as sweet and kind all those years ago as she was when we first meet her in Until November. While she was kind, loving and considerate, she wasn't a pushover. She took time to think about James and the things she had heard about him, but she was open minded and realized that you can't always believe everything you hear.

SEXUAL HISTORY~ Neither were virgins. James was not the "casanova" he was made out to be either.

OM/ DRAMA ~ None that caused problems in their relationship

STEAM plenty of steam

VIOLENCE none of a sexual nature

SAFETY Safe - neither are with others after they meet. Insta love 💜

ENDING~ Short, steamy epilogue. It was perfect. This story is unique in that we get a slice of their HEA every time a new book releases in the Until Series. From their kids, to their grandkids and if we are lucky, their great grandkids. It was amazing to read their story and see how it all began.

OMG... Talk about PERFECT original BOOM!

Seriously, Until Susan completely blew me away! I'm sure there isn't a Aurora Rose Reynolds' fan that hasn't wanted and craved to know more about the original Boom, James and Susan, the parents of the all that Mayson goodness. Well C.P. Smith turned out to be the perfect author to give us these two's story. Until Susan was #Boom Perfection!

On duty or not, I wanted him to know, in no uncertain terms, that even after all these years together I still wanted him like he wanted me.
Mind.
Body.
And soul.

Ms. Smith was already one of my all time authors and automatic one-click for me, added that she's from the same generation as James and Susan, ARR couldn't have chosen a more perfect storyteller to invite into her Until world and give us these two's romance. Pure insta connection, pure BOOM!

He knew then he wanted her in a way he hadn’t wanted a woman in his life. But Fate had confirmed it for him when she’d placed her hand in his. He knew then it was more than just want, but fucking destiny that had her breaking down in front of his home.

He’d been looking for Susan most of his adult life, and destiny had seen fit to drop her in his lap. He wasn’t about to give fate a chance to change her mind.

James was all about his job as a deputy and as SWAT, living a quiet life in his family's farm and fully devoted to his county, but when the recently moved Susan Montgomery breaks down next to his place and sparks fly that first sight, James is not a man that needs more than that to know what Fate is trying to tell him. He instantly feels is BOOM and will anything to get Susan on the same page.

The kiss was meant to announce his intent to pursue. To lay claim to her in no uncertain terms.

He’d just wanted a taste of her, to see what an angel felt like wrapped in his arms.

He's an Alpha through and through and Susan better be prepared for all that power, his charm and charisma alone could melt her on the spot, had to that a smoking hot package and their off the charts attraction, Susan didn't stand much of a chance.

I was trapped like a fly in a web. And he was the very delicious looking spider.

From the moment I met James, I’d felt drawn to him. Like he was the answer to the question of life.

The setting, the characters, the emotions, were all so perfectly portrayed that I couldn't have helped being transported into the eighties right along with James and Susan, and lived through their feelings and unconventional, full steam ahead - SO very Mayson - courtship and romance!

“Not gonna let you shake me off. Not after I’ve had all the facets that are Susan. Been waitin’ for-fuckin’-ever for you to show up. So brace, babe. It’s full steam ahead.”

What started out as a novella, became without a doubt one of my favorite books of the author, and one of my favorite reads of the year. As per CP Smith's usual, the suspense element took it to another level, and their moments between the sheets - or against the wall, lol - just tied up perfectly to an already emotional and unforgettable romance! Until Susan surpassed all expectations and fit in perfectly in ARR's HEAlpha world, perfect symbiosis of ARR's BOOM with CP Smith's extraordinary voice! One memorable story! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

“BOOM!”
Thank Christ, she finally got it, and felt it too. That indescribable feeling of belonging.
Closing his eyes in relief, James dipped his forehead to hers and whispered, “BOOM!”

“BOOM,” I whispered, because I’d truly, finally, gotten its meaning. It was the shock to your system when the right person waltzed into your life. The overwhelming need to be with them at all cost. A sense of two souls finding each other, of belonging to someone so completely that you didn’t know where one began and the other ended.

I am not a HUGE fan of novellas in general. I've read some that have been outstanding, but most tend to fall short. But the HAPPILY EVER AFTER crossovers intrigued me so I figured I'd give a few of these a try. That said, it KILLS me that I have to pay 2.50 for such a short book <--- anyway, not important I just felt the need to grumble a little. *lol*

description

I enjoyed this one quite a lot. Although at times It felt like I was reading a KA book. *shrug* Still, the story was sweet and the characters likable. I would have probably rated it 4-Stars if it weren't for the stupid over the top cartoon villain OW drama at the end. My eyes figuratively rolled out of my head. But all in all, it was a pretty decent read, and I enjoyed getting a look at how James and Susan Mayson got their start.

I can't tell you how much I loved this book! It's beyond amazing! C.P. Smith wrote the perfect story of the Mayson boys' parents. A story that will stay with me for a long time.

It's about James and Susan.

He's the deputy sheriff of Murfreesboro and part of the S.W.A.T team. She just moved in town a month ago and works as a nurse at the St. Thomas hospital.

On her way home, her car broke down in front of his house and he helped and changed the tire.

He knew at that moment, he found his 'boom' but because of the rumors she heard about him, she didn't want anything to do with him. But when you're destined to be together, nothing will keep you apart.

I loved how he loved her! So sweet! Both of them were amazing characters.

I loved the epilogue!

C.P. Smith does it again!! We’re treated to a novella from ARR Kindle World of Alphas, I must confess, I haven’t read any of the other books in the Until series, but, after reading James and Susan’s story, I’m definitely looking to remedy that.

Susan leaves her hometown of Nashville after finding her ex is cheating. She finds a job at the local small town hospital she moved to, determined to start fresh and single. Susan and James meet when James comes to her rescue after breaking down late one night. James instantly falls for the beautiful Susan and Susan feels a spark but, later decided based on rumors of James’ reputation to avoid James Mayson....however, James is determined to make Susan his, especially when it looks like someone is out to harm her.

We get an action-packed romantic suspense novella with C.P. Smith’s unique brand of snarky humor and totally realistic insta-love. I've read all of CP’s books and have loved each any every one of her her strong (sexy) alpha men and the women who eventually capture their hearts. In US she weaves romance and suspense, and creates memorable characters that you wish you were part of.

All-in-all, I throughly enjoyed getting to know James and Susan. However, knowing this is part of a series was a distraction for me personally (I’m a bit OCD about book order LOL). CPS’s writing was flawless, I’ve been waiting for another CPS book so it was like getting a taste of your favorite comfort food, so delectable, and missed when it’s gone. Looking forward to reading more of ARR Until books.

The Mayson brothers had to come from somewhere, and that start was with James, the man that would become their dad, and his boom, Susan.

Needing a new start after catching her no ex-boyfriend cheating, Susan, an ER nurse, left her hometown and moved. Things are going well until a flat tire one night, but that too brought on a new change in her life, and his name is James.

James had been sitting on his porch, enjoying the quiet night, until he went to look into the unexpected car near his house. Upon finding Susan, he was immediately intrigued and protected at the same time, and learned what his dad meant by the boom.

Susan, having heard rumors and warning about James' ways since day one, tried to ignore his persistence and their obvious mutually intense chemistry, but James refused to give up. He also calls Susan out for believing the lies about him.

When Susan needs to get away to clear her mind, she encounters someone in desperate need and does what she can to help. However, Susan's gentle nature leads danger to her doorstep and the possibility of not being able to explore what she and James could have together.

As James and Susan begin spending time together, and a lot of it considering he's watching over to ensure she's safe, their feelings for one another grow, quickly, and Susan soon figures out what James already had...they're meant to be together.

Unfortunately, even though one obstacle is taken care of, another appears, and this time from an unexpected source.

Can James keep Susan safe? Who is after her and why? Will James lose him boom after just finding her? Psst...we know they get their HEA as a series is devoted to their four sons finding their individual booms, but the journey James and Susan take to get there is something you need to read.

One-click now and follow along as two people discover their soul mate and must fight to ensure they get the future they're meant to have.

Gah! I loved this so much! I’m a fan of the Boom! When a man can take one look at a woman and just know she is the one and life as he knew it won’t be the same, well...it wins me over every time.

C.P. Smith is a new to me author and this was a great introduction to her writing. I loved it. I loved her take on the couple that started it all for Aurora Rose Reynolds Until series.

I’m usually not into the time jumping but it was perfect for this story. She took us back to see where it all started and showed us how much these two still love each other years later.

You can bet I’ll be checking out more from this author.

For such a short read, I was thoroughly sucked in.
I have a soft spot for 'Until November" (If not all AAA's books) and was drawn to Susan's story because of how she claimed that James chased her for 2 months before she gave in. I so wanted to read that, but in the prologue, Susan says that was made up.
I was bummed and even considered DNFing right there.

So glad I didn't!

James was better than his sons! How refreshing ; )

Susan moves from Nashville to Jame's neck of nowhere Tennessee to work as a nurse and get away from her loser cheating ex. Her car just happens to get a flat tire right out front of Jame's house...
I don't want to give anything away, but there's drug dealers and a crazy person. A nice balance of action, romance and lust.

I will definitely have to read more by this author!

Until Susan is probably one of the most wanted books of the kindle world Happily Ever Alpha. Everyone who knows about the Until Series wants James and Susan's story. CP not only brings life to these two original ARR characters ... she also bring a story I never thought of when I thought of them. And trust me when I say... It is fucking amazing one at that.

CP is another amazing addition to the Until World and her work fit perfectly with Auroras. I am in awe of just how perfectly CP wrote the parents story.

I adore ARRs world and I can say that I was not disappointed in this story at all. So if you are like me and are an Until Addict.. then don't miss this story.

Thank you for the chance to read it early ❤

EEK! I got the BOOM!

Yeah, so, up until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't read any of ARR's Until books, so I really had no clue what the big deal was about the BOOM. Then when I heard that one of my top favorite authors would be writing in a Kindle World for ARR, I picked up a book and got introduced to the Maysons and to the BOOM. You don't have to have read any of ARR's books if you were in the same boat as me, though. The way this book was written, I learned all I needed to know, although at least knowing a bit of Until November's story line did enhance the scene a bit more.

Anyways! I freakin' LOVED James and Susan's story! CP Smith brought her characters to life in a way only she can and made me fall head over heals for both James and Susan. I wanted to be Susan so I could have all of James' attention directly focused on me. And James is the kind of man I ADORE as a book boyfriend - bossy, strong, confident, devoted (aka, alpha!) and the icing on the cake: got a badge and a gun! The connection between the two of them sparked off the page and made my heart stutter and melt over and over again. I felt everything they did, from the anticipation, the bracing, the joy (oh, was I laughing alot in this!), the fear. It all drew me into their world so that I was stuck there and really wanted to sweetly request (read: demand) for more because I didn't want to hurt from having to close the book on the last page. That's how you know you've discovered an amazing story.

When they're done well, I love prologues and epilogues -- and the way they were done here? PRICELESS! haha! Absolutely stinkin' loved it!

Great origin story!

I loved reading about the story of how the Mayson boys' parents met. James and Susan's story was well written and the sex scenes were pretty steamy. Who knew parents could be so hot? Lol! I love the action and suspense that only CP Smith could weave into a romance storyline.

“I don’t play games. When I want somethin’ I go after it. So like I said, brace, baby. I never lose. Not when it’s somethin’ I want.” — James Mayson

I have always adored James and Susan Mayson. From day one when we first meet them in Until November you just know that their story had to be something amazing. Well, with CP’s story it wasn’t just amazing.. it was EVERYTHING.

James Mayson is the original Mayson alpha... he’s sexy, cocky, charming, sweet, protective, loving and stubborn. He’s found his BOOM and nothing will stop him —
“You’re caught now. I won’t ever let you go”, he growled.
“Try it and see what happens. I’ll hunt you down, baby. To the end of the earth.” — James
The Mayson boys definitely get it from their daddy!

Susan was everything you knew she would be. She’s gorgeous, caring, TOUGH, smart, loving, sassy, and a good girl. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. I loved getting the chance to go back in time and witness the original Mayson “BOOM”.

This story has everything you want and need.. it’s got humor, suspense, action, love, steam, and a hero and heroine who are perfect for each other. This book will have you laughing, swooning, sitting at the edge of your seat and then smiling so big with its happily ever after!!

CP Smith is a master story teller. The amount of depth she puts into her books is absolutely amazing and this is one of the reasons she is one of my favorite authors

Ya’ll ever wonder how the Mayson brothers came to be? BOOM, it be just like that. CP Smith is one of my favorite authors, and she did not disappoint in this fantastic novella about the infamous Mayson brothers parents, James and Susan. It was so good, from the Prologue in real time, to the flashback of their story, and James knew Susan was the one instantly, his BOOM. This book had everything, and was absolutely the perfect story for James and Susan, CP Smith nailed it.

Safe read. Great storyline about soulmates that stand through time, and can take anything that comes their way. I love that we got their real story, not the one she tells everyone, and I loved how Asher got his name. This will definitely be a re-read for me, because these two were hot af relationship goals. If you want a feel good hea with some suspense, this is it. Loved it.

This was my first CP Smith book and I am on the hunt for more.

I loved everything about this story! I have been a big fan of the ARR Until series and have read them all - perfect kind of easy to read, alpha hottie, HEA type stories. This book gave me such a fresh look on the series and I loved the author's dialogue and James was the perfect alpha. Dominant but not OTT and Susan had a spine. I love it when the heroine is a bit feisty. There was plenty of action in this one and the sexy times were HOT!! Definitely recommend this novella.

I received an ARC of this book.

Until Susan is part of Aurora Rose Reynolds's Until series. I have not read any of that series, and even though this is the origin story about the parents of those characters, about how they met and fell in love, I did not feel lost at all. I am sure there are plenty of little hints and nods at that series, but I did not feel like I was missing something. Now, the story itself was great. Plenty of romance, humour and two great lead characters who you were cheering would find their way to each other. I fell into this story so easily and completely recommend it to romance fans.

The Until series is one of my absolute favorite series, and I can't remember how many times I've re-read each book. So to finally read Until Susan (and I'm 100% berating myself for not reading it sooner), it just puts the cherry on top of an already spectacular series! We finally get James and Susan's epic BOOM , and it DID NOT disappoint. It all started with their love story and it couldn't be more perfect!

***ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review***

-Updated after I had the day to digest and very quick reread-

This is my first time reading from CP Smith and also my first time reading a Kindle World book.

I was most excited to read this one out of any of the Happily Ever Alpha books. I mean, it's where this all started... Susan and James. *heart eyes*
It was nice to see the story behind the two after hearing their story and getting to know them in the Until books.

So to be honest, I was really debating on what to rate this. I think the author is a good writer and I'm looking forward to reading more of her novels. This was just a change because through the writing, you can tell it's not ARR (WHICH I KNOW CANNOT BE HELPED because they are separate authors and have two separate writing styles, I get it. It’s just hard... but I’m excited to read more from CP Smith and discover her books and her worlds and then come back to read this with more knowledge from her POV.)
Again, I know this is from CP Smith and it’s her work. I think she’s very talented and I am looking forward to reading more from her.
It was different seeing the Until world from another author’s POV.

It was a good story. There was a lot happening in such a short amount of time and for such a small book...but that's how these work, right? I guess that's why I'm not a big fan of novellas.
Well, I guess I shouldn’t say that I didn’t like some of things that happened but it was just a little too much happening for my liking, which I’ve seen in other novels too.

One thing that did throw me off and I didn't care for... during Susan's POV, it was written in first person "I...me...my.." but in James's POV it was all third person "he...his...James..." Didn't really love that. It just really threw me off when I was reading. I had the go back and read some parts because I was confused and lost for a minute. I sort of got used to it but I still had to backtrack in some places.

I'll be reading the rest of the Happily Ever Alpha books...hopefully I'll get used to them being short and from authors with writing styles I’m not familiar with (I’ll probably have to read them all once and then go back and do a reread).
Like I said, I’ll definitely be coming back to this one after I read more of her books.

BOOM! That’s what I felt like when hit with all that is James Mayson. Holy shamoly! There is no doubt that the Mayson boys came by their drop dead sexy alphahole ways honestly. With Until Susan, Daddy Mayson himself proves without a doubt he’s the swoon-worthiest of them all.

Almost every line of James’ worked for me in all kinds of delicious, I mean wonderful ways. In fact, I think I highlighted half the book so I could easily refer back to his words, you know, when I need to ummm…research alpha males.

As for Susan, that is one lucky woman. She was sweet, kind, strong, smart, and everything James deserved in a woman. It’s also good she had a backbone and some sass as we know she ends up raising a passel of Mayson boys.

I loved Until Susan, with its touch of suspense, a bit mystery, lots of sexy times, and more than a few smile-worthy moments all wrapped together in a quick reading novella. My only teeny tiny issue was that I wasn’t quite sure how to take the twist at the end and the true story of how Asher got his name. Still, I read this in one sitting, smiling constantly, and enjoying every sexy, thrilling minute of it.

I’ve been so excited to read this book since I heard it was being written! I am new to this author. She wrote their story perfectly! I felt like I was pulled into this book from the first page. I loved learning the history of Susan and James. Each of them as a character was so interesting to me. Their love story was unlike any other Until series book I’ve read. Their story is real and I loved it!! This story has some twists and turns, but what good story doesn’t? That’s what makes this story so unique! You don’t know what is going to happen next. I couldn’t seem to put this book down once I started it! I just wanted to know if they got the happily ever after ending ❤️ I just loved these two together and what they have is such a hard thing to find nowadays. BOOM BABY!!

You don’t want to miss out on this read! I really cannot wait to read more from this author ❤️

I think it's safe to say that any fan of the until series has been dreaming of the day this book is made, and let me say, this book goes above and beyond anything we could have imagined it being...

CP Smith came up with a brilliant story from start to finish that will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

It's easy to see that ARR made the best decisions on who should write these books and CP Smith isn't letting her or us down.

There is no way that you can put this book down until you've soaked up every last word.

You must read this book!!

James Mayson has felt the boom the minute he went to lend a hand to a woman who was having car trouble. The problem is he has a reputation as a love them and leave them type and the gossips have gotten into Susan's ear. James needs to show Susan he is a one woman man, but there is a danger he didn't see coming that could threaten everything.

Such a fan of this series and reading James and Susan's story fell right at home. James oozed all the magnetism that the Mayson's do in the other books. I thought this was wonderful, would liked if it had been a bit longer but none the less worth picking up.
