Edge of Night is a short story by Dave Kosak featured on the official site. It is the ninth in the Leaders of Azeroth series, released on September 27, 2011, and centers on the Forsaken's ruler Sylvanas Windrunner.
To me, this story is essential reading if you wish to understand the changes in game in Deathknell at the beginning of the Cataclysm expansion. It was interesting to see the changes Sylvanas Windrunner went through when the Lich King was vanquished. A well written and recommended story!
I somehow missed this short story before the release of Cataclysm 15 years ago.
It depicts Sylvanas' existential crisis now once Arthas is gone. She dedicated her whole life to revenge, and now when the champions of Azeroth killed the Lich King, what was her life worth?
It progresses her character quite drastically but it felt quite short. I wish there were more substance to the story and less back and forth between Gilneas storyline and Sylvanas' storyline.
All in all, an OK addition to the lore to evolve her character from a machiavelist to a caring leader.
This one is my favourite, especially because of Sylvanas being my favourite character. It starts exactly where Wrath of the Lich King ended, we can see Sylvanas' thoughts, her lose of life sense. After some important moments we are drawn to the start of the events of Cataclysm. Great read!
Her story is darker than any other. Full of pain, heartache and fear. He past still haunts her but she presses forward to make a future for the Forsaken.
