She doesn’t date hockey players, and he needs to earn the respect of his new team, but they're willing to break all the rules for just one kiss. As long as they keep their relationship a secret everyone wins.
Since their parent’s death, Chloe Schultz has put every ounce of her energy into her twin brother, Erik’s, NHL career. She won’t let distractions—like dating—get in the way of keeping the Utah Fury as the championship team. Until she meets Reese.
Reese Murray was shocked when he was traded the week before the season started. He’s bitter, but he won’t let that stop him from proving he’s the best. The Fury welcomes Reese, with one warning, stay away from the marketing manager, Chloe Schultz, if he wants to stay on Erik’s good side. Too bad she’s the first woman that’s caught his eye in years.
Can Chloe and Reese keep their focus while trying to hide their growing attraction, or will their secret come out and tear the team apart?
Brittney has been an avid reader since she can remember. Her parents' form of punishment for her growing up was taking away her books and making her go outside to play. She was born and raised in Southern California, with a brief hiatus in Arizona. She loves the beach, exercising, sleeping in, and cookies. She is an obsessive dog lover, although her affection currently has no outlet. Something that she is planning on remedying soon. She and her husband currently reside in the Rocky Mountains exploring and hiking as much as possible.
I liked this story. It's a cute clean romance about a new addition to the NHL team, the Fury, finding himself drawn to a woman who doesn't date hockey players. The romance and chemistry between the two leads was sweet. And I was successfully entertained.
But a few things about this story bugged me. 1) There are minor grammatical errors and editing mistakes. You'll catch them while reading the book. The biggest one is that a secondary character's name changes from Sasha to Sophia as the story progresses. 2) To me, Eric's characterization wasn't believable or consistent. I won't give spoilers, but his actions at the beginning of the book are completely contrary to how they are at the end. With no growth in between to make you believe the change. I don't exactly believe his reasons for why he acted the way he did either. 3) I wish there was more balance in the relationship between the leads. Reese ended up apologizing and making up for things way more, even if Chloe was in the wrong. I wanted there to be moments where she fought for him.
I don't think these flaws are enough to keep you from enjoying the story, but they might affect your flow while reading the book. And I liked this story enough to be curious about the next installation, but I don't think I'll read this again.
This was my first read of this author. And I absolutely loved Chloe and Reese story, it was such a cute read. I can't wait to read more of this series. 💜
Puck Drop is the first book in the Utah Fury Hockey series by Brittney Mulliner. This was my first read from this author and I was excited to find another hockey sports book. Chloe doesn't date hockey players. She is there to support her twin brother and do her job as head of digital marketing for the team that have now become her family. She doesn't want to do anything to jeopardise that.
Reese has just been traded in from Boston, from a team he began his career with and a team he thought were his family. He thought Boston would be where he played his whole career out but things change and now he is in Utah. He has to try to make the most of things and continue to do his best. He has one rule “no dating” during hockey season but then he meets Chloe and well he's ready to throw that rule out the window.
She wouldn’t have to go out with me if I were dead. And I was pretty sure I would be if I knocked on Erik’s door and asked for his sister.
This was a really nice and sweet read. Although there was a little drama thrown in and Chloe's yo-yoing and double standards got on my nerves a little, overall it was an enjoyable easy read for me between heavy books. The secondary characters were nice to read and I will definitely be reading more in the series.
This had a lot that I thought would work well for me - hockey romance, no sex (according to reviews), dual POV, forbidden love, etc, but it just didn't pan out how I hoped. Honestly, I struggled a lot with the FMC and her immaturity (like writing a super negative blog post as the marketing manager for the team about a new player, and refusing to take it down when her boss asked her to) just was too much. There was also the toxic relationship between her and her brother where she was basically his mother and his maid in one, yet he also basically never allowed her to date? This could get addressed further in the book, but I hated it, especially since he was always hooking up with women, so it was completely hypocritical. Overall, I tried but I got to a point where I just didn't want to read more, so I stopped.
I got so f-ing frustrated with the MCs that I couldn't finish this book.
First, the FMC has this air of entitlement that grated on my last nerve. Her backstory had a lot o potential but the way the author wrote her made her completely unlikeable. She was supposed to be the best, but if she is going to be the "darling" for everyone, we need to have some kind of vulnerability that we as the reader are privy to. That wasn't there so she was just this cold, aloof character who was better than everyone else and was always right (even when she was so so wrong).
She was so put out by his initial standoffishness, when he is the newbie. Shouldn't she have tried to make him feel a little better? Then she was a complete dick to him with that initial "blog post" and SUPER professional with her boss. Some people... *Shakes head in frustration*
Then the MMC. What a fool. She ran right over him at every turn and it was super unattractive. At first, he came across as this strong, alpha, feminist and I was like, YES-HERE WE GO!, but immediately his personality was replaced with a doormat and my lower half dried up.
Their constant back and forth in every single chapter without building up to anything didn't give up a relationship to root for, just made it more annoying.
Hopefully the hair I pulled out from reading the first half of this book grows back.
Chloe has sworn off hockey players . She is worried if she gets involved with a hockey player she will lose her job.? Her brother Eric plays on the same time as Reese. Reese is another obstacle to get by . She is worried that Eric would not her dating his teammate Reese. Reese is warned to stay from chloe who is Eric’s twin . Chloe works for the Utah fury as the marketing manager . Reese was traded right before the hockey season started to the Utah Fury . Chloe has always taken a back seat to her twin brother’s hockey care .
What happens when the newly-traded starting player falls for the team’s publicity assistant? Oh, who also happens to be the twin sister of one of the best players? The hockey season is just beginning and so are the feelings between these two who are just as surprised as everyone else. If you love a good hockey game (and even if you don’t) you will find lots of fun and twists in this delightful book. Go FURY!
Nice comfortable read. Was a little disappointed about the outing. But worth a read if you like hockey romance. Going to buy the next book. The author introduces hints as to possibilities of other books in the series. I hope Erik’s is next. I loved how the author didn’t make the WAGs out to be stuck up women and how the women in the book supported each other. We need more of that. Recommend read.
First of all, I have to say that I love this book so much, I have reread it at least 4 times that I can distinctly remember. Chloe sounds so sweet and caring. I love that Reece helps her set healthier boundaries with her brother and become stronger. Chloe and Reece really grow in this book and I really think that that’s what love is supposed to do.
A good book, which I enjoyed very much. This is the first book of the Utah Fury Hockey series, but not the first book in the series which I have enjoyed, I am reading them out of order. It is a good series which I am enjoying.
I love hockey romance, this author was new to me, but she didn't disappoint. I already love the characters she's starting to build the team family with, I can't wait to read Eric's book next
I was excited to find another hockey series and this one is worth the read! I can't wait to start Erik's story... Cloe & Reese will be a tough act to follow
This is a sweet and fun romance with a little bit of everything in it so it will keep you on your toes from the beginning til the end as they journey towards their own love story.
First time reading Brittney Mulliner. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the relationship between Chloe and Reese. I liked how the author developed the conflicts and allowed them to work them out. Loved it and am looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed this book. The details with the characters and their surroundings were well developed and written. I really liked the main couple and I wanted to see how their story ended. A great recommendation from a friend.
Chloe is very much loved by everyone on the team. She's kind of like a sister to all of them. All but Reese. He didnt know she was supposed to be a sister. He never looked at her like that.
Fhis was a pretty good book. It's a clean story. Only kissing. No sexy times. Chloe runs the media arm of the Utah Fury hickey team. She lives and breathes the team and does everything for the players, almost like she is the team mom. Her twin brother, Erik plays on the team and they live together. He is very protective of Chloe, so much so that she hasn't had a date in over 3 years. We can't say the same for Erik who is quite the player. For the first half of this book, he was not my favorite character. I felt that he took advantage of Chloe and expected her to do everything for him, including picking up his dry cleaning. At the start of the new season, there are a few new players. One was surprise last minute big trade, Reese Murray. Reese is not happy to have been traded. His Boston team was his family and he thought he'd be there until he retired. He's not sure where he fits into the new team. They don't exactly go out of their way to make him feel welcome. Reese is smitten with Chloe but is warned away from her. He has no clue that she is Erik's twin sister or that she basically takes care of the team. The team is nice to her an loves her but she let herself be treated like a doormat. At a team diiner, Reese sees Chloe busting her butt to dote on the team. He especially sees Erik treating her like it is her role in life to serve him. Reese calls him on it and it doesn't go over well. My issue with this book is that this is supposed to be such a loving team yet no one saw fit to give Reese the lay of the land. He has not a clue about the inner workings of the team. Chloe and Reese relize they have feelings for each other. Chloe always had a hard rule that she didn't date players. She was afraid of making someone mad at her. Reese is leary of being with Chloe because Erik and other team members have warned him away. They do eventually get together but there are a lot of issues and misunderstandings.
This was mostly ridiculous - I gave 3-stars only because Reese was awesome.
Chloe had lived the majority of her childhood, adolescence, and teen years secretly resenting her twin hockey star Erik for sucking the life and finances out of their parents who tragically died in a traffic accident while they were still teenagers. After they lost their mom and dad, they clung to each other, whereupon Chloe sank her whole attention, energy, support, dedication and social/personal life to ensuring Erik's every comfort, training, focus, talent and skills were developed, honed and perfected to make him an integral part of the Utah Fury professional hockey team. Of course, she made herself into his personal crutch and gopher by default, which is how Reese came to view her when he first got thrust, in complete shock, into the world of Fury, Erik and Chloe after being surprised and slapped with a trade between Boston and Utah. Reese is the leading forward in the nation; Utah traded three players for him. Still, he hadn't been forced to move around since he'd been drafted, so he had anticipated retiring in Boston, and his trade left him reeling and bitter.
Naturally, he wasn't in the best frame.of mind as he met his new team, city, and Chloe, and he made a poor impression. Gah! At that point, I couldn't believe the audacity and delusional cloud Chloe and Erik existed in. Their relationship was weird and unnatural, and Reese was a Saint for putting up with and going out of his way to accommodate her and her neurotic end to keep her brother happy. She was ridiculous. And, Reese was truly one of the most genuine, perfect men she could have hoped to attract. Three stars - the trope was kind of unrealistic and dumb, but Reese's attributes made up for Chloe and Erik.
The Utah Fury Hockey team is, going through some changes. Several trades have been made for, Reese Murry. A top-notch player from, Boston. The team lost Horran, Merck, and Benning, one of which is a goaltender. After coming off their second win of, the Stanley Cup, it's a blow as, to why they would spoil, the apple cart.
At this first practice, the WAGS (wives, and, girlfriends)can see the discord, between the old, and new players. Every move is sluggish, labored, and unsure. Reese’s indifference didn't go unnoticed, by his new teammates. He needed to get with the program. His irritation with his old team is rubbing off, and affecting his acceptance of, his new team. Mainly, Erik.
The same day they needed to update their team pictures. Chloe happened to be there directing everyone. She was checking their hair, making sure they had the right shirt on, and reprimanding a player for having a bimbo visit on a non-visit day. He couldn’t get over how beautiful, she is. How her long brown hair is almost, to her waist, and, the way she commands, a room. But, he is also warned by the other players, to stay far away from her. Giving him the impression, she is, Erik’s girl when, Hartman says, ‘Something like that.’
However, this somehow only intrigues, him more. Reese thinks of ways he can talk with her. When simultaneously, Chloe is doing the same thing. See if they can come up with a way, to do it without sending up, red flags. This is a cat-and-mouse game. Where Erik is the cat. Reese wants full disclosure and, Chloe is living in fear of, Erik finding out, and starting trouble. On, or off the ice. This is a read. I definitely recommend this book.
The start of the book didn’t suck me in but as the story progressed, I liked the banter between the characters. There was some romance but it was a clean read. (Meaning no sex) I really liked the hockey aspect and you could tell that the author loves the sport or did great research. Like liked the hero because he really seemed to care. I got made that he kept apologizing for things he didn’t need to apologize for but that also made him seem sweeter.
At times I felt like Chloe’s job too more center stage then the buddying romance between the two main characters. I get that her job revolves around the hero’s job but the time they spent just them seemed to be short and it made it very hard to feel like it was a genuine relationship. Add in the fact that Chloe was so wishy washy. We should tell him (her brother), no, are you crazy we can’t tell him. All in the same breath. Overall it was a cute book and I would be willing to read more in the series. 3 stars #2OCCJD
DNF - quit at 68% I don’t know, I really tried to keep reading, but it just wasn’t working for me. I needed more , not even sure what that more is. It felt very immature & high school angst driven, and very predictable. The character development is very shallow, & Chloe’s jealousy was off the charts -even before they had a first date. I didn’t feel the real chemistry between Chloe and Reese either (the jealousy aside). I don’t know if the book was intended for Y/A audience, because by the point I quit, there were only a few goodnight kisses exchanged, not that it has to have crazy monkey sex every chapter. This just seemed off for a NHL hockey player/team themed book to not have more adult themed writing when it’s one of the more volatile sports.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
My biggest complaint with this series (or, at least, with the books I've read of it) is the pacing. I'm not specifically talking about the pacing of the romance (although it is a little weird to have so many couples falling into true love in the space of a week or two. I mean cmon). It's more like the pacing of their dynamic. They meet each other and then open their whole hearts, have these deep or super honest conversations with literal strangers. idk it kind of kept spoiling it for me. Too bad because I liked the characters and the premise A LOT. A LOT. There was a lot of potential. But it needed a few more chapters early on of just plain interactions between characters, a way to build them into a normal relationship before they decided they could tell this perfect stranger things they'd never told their friends. It got to be too much disbelief for me to suspend.
