The Meredith Potts Cozy Mystery Anthology gives a sample of five cozy mystery books from different series written by Meredith Potts. Each has a different style to it with four different protagonists.
In College Can Be Murder, Melanie Cooper, PI, investigates a case for a pastor named Mark Richardson, whose 19-year-old daughter, Jennifer, disappeared three weeks earlier. The local police of her small college town have written off her disappearance as suicide by jumping off the high gorge that makes the town famous. However, Jennifer’s father doesn’t believe she would have killed herself, as the death of her mother in a car accident a few years earlier instilled a strong appreciation for life in Jennifer.

This anthology contains the following books in this order:
College Can Be Murder The Last Frontier of Murder Deadpan Murder Killer Amnesia Murder in Happy Creek
In College Can Be Murder, Melanie Cooper, a private investigator, was hired by Pastor Mark Richardson. His daughter, Jennifer, is believed to have jumped off a gorge. Mark doesn’t believe Jennifer committed suicide and wants Melanie to figure out the truth.
In The Last Frontier of Murder, Andrea McDougal’s boyfriend, Jake, a private investigator, doesn’t show up for their date, which is very unlike him. When Andrea finds him murdered in his office, she vows to find his killer. She teams up with her friend, Detective Adam Stone, to uncover the truth.
In Deadpan Murder, librarian Poppy finds out her good friend and mother figure, Lara Peabody, was murdered. Poppy has helped her boyfriend, a police detective, solve cases in the past, so she decides she will help with this one too. Unfortunately, the suspects are Lara’s three children.
In Killer Amnesia, we see Melanie Cooper again as she is running in the woods. She finds a scared and bleeding woman calling for help. The woman doesn’t know anything about herself or how she got there. Melanie’s boyfriend, Detective Steven Griffin, finds out the woman’s name is Amy, and that she was presumed dead after going missing over a year ago. When he tracks down Amy’s husband, things even get more mysterious. Melanie and Steven work together to find out what happened.
In Murder in Happy Creek, Rose Calahan is very sad because it is the 4th anniversary of her late husband Harold’s death. When her daughter, Kaitlyn, a police detective, asks her for help, in a murder investigation, Rose jumps at the chance. Rose’s former boss, Syd Harper, who was a private investigator, was murdered and the only clue is the label sticker of an old case file. The case was solved a long time ago when Rose was working as Syd’s secretary. All the people involved in that old case are now suspects.
Each of these stories were unique and entertaining, although a bit far-fetched. All the main characters took over the investigations like they had a right. I’m pretty sure in real life, that wouldn’t be an option.
Marley Welling as narrator for these books wasn’t my favorite. Although she has a really nice voice, her pronunciation of some of the words made me cringe. I think she may do very well with young adult books.
Author Meredith Potts is talented and imaginative and these are light and fun "cozy" tales. That said, they are somewhat formulaic in resolution despite wildly disparate concepts. I listened to a box set audio of stories that come from different series, with different heroines, but each protagonist has a knack for observation and helps the local police/her boyfriend on murder investigations; each is told in a highly detailed, first person account; and each adopts a fairly aggressive and confrontational interrogation technique which basically doesn't vary from suspect to suspect nor investigator to investigator. Despite this structural sameness, there are usually interesting details and clever motivations that set each story apart and, frankly, keep me "reading." From a college campus to Alaska at the start of winter (with temperatures of cold, frigid, and frozen)--five novellas in all--each setup is unique.
Narrator Marley Welling's high-pitched, determined voice is perfect for each female lead (except, maybe, the septuagenarian), but she is basically reading aloud rather than acting; I also found myself disagreeing with many of her pronunciations, but overall enjoyed the various stories and trying to figure out Whodunit.
Five stories, four locations/protagonists, all well done. COLLEGE CAN BE MURDER: Pastor's daughter is missing and presumed a suicide but the PI doesn't give up. Wisconsin. THE LAST FRONTIER OF MURDER: She finds her PI boyfriend dying of a GSW in his office and becomes an amateur sleuth by working with an old friend who is on the force. Alaska. DEADPAN MURDER: Librarian finds her friend murdered in her own home. She is an amateur sleuth who works with her friend on the force. British. KILLER AMNESIA: Out for morning exercise, she encounters an injured woman with no memory or identity who is found to have disappeared from another part of the state a year and a half ago. WI. MURDER IN HAPPY CREEK: Widow of a cop who died of a heart attack, Rose and her detective daughter investigate the murder of an old family friend in Smalltown, Anywhere. Each story is just the right length. I have the Whispersync, and the narrator needs a better sound booth at least. I found her voice to be grating, but her cadencing and interpretations were fine.
I own both the Kindle & audible versions of this book so I was able to follow along while being read to. College Can be Murder, my second short read/listen from author Meredith Potts. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery & even though the ultimate ending was given away in the first quarter of the book it was still an enjoyable read. The Last Frontier of Murder, my third short read from author Meredith Potts. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery, an enjoyable read. Dead Pan Murder, my fourth short read from author Meredith Potts. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery, an enjoyable read. Killer Amnesia, my fifth short read from author Meredith Potts. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery, an enjoyable read. Murder in Happy Creek, my sixth short read from author Meredith Potts. A cute, well-written clean cozy mystery, an enjoyable read.
The mispronunciation of words by the narrator took away from the listening enjoyment of a professionally narrated audio book. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This cozy mystery set has 5 books in it. Murder in Happy Creek, Killer Amnesia, College can be murder, Deadpan Murder, Last Frontier of Murder. I like that Meredith Potts uses no sex, harsh language or bloodshed. So you can share time with your young kids/grandkids and enjoy reading together. I feel the characters are believable and likable. The stories are independent of each other and you could do a story a day. I love how she likes her sweets. Marley Wellings does the narration in Audible and keeps your interest despitea few mispronunciations. I enjoyed this set and I I reccommend them for you to have fun with your daughter or son enjoying these cozy mysteries.
This is a compilation of 5 cozy mysteries. I enjoyed all of them. Each book has a different female lead character and many of them are working to solve mysteries and 3 involve boyfriends who are in law enforcement. One is working on her own after the death of her private investigator boyfriend and one is an older woman, working with her police detective daughter. I appreciate a woman character who is clever and hardworking.
I listened to the audio version. The narrator is good. She has an interesting voice. Each book does have several mispronounced words but that didn't interfere with my listening enjoyment.
This is 5 books in one :-) a great deal. The titles of the 5 books are: College Can Be Murder The Last Frontier of Murder Deadpan Murder Killer Amnesia Murder in Happy Creek They are a fun quick read. I enjoyed the stories. Marley Welling was the narrator for this collection. Her narration was okay but not great. I found her pronunciation of some of the words frustrating. I was gifted this audio book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
Five cozy mysteries with the Potts trademark of sweets and incompetent police. A nice break from gory murder books, although totally unbelievable - the police bringing a civilian along to question and solve the crimes. Each story is located in a different city with a different heroine solving the crime. If you are a fan of "Murder She Wrote " this is for you. I was gifted this from the author.
The stories themselves I really enjoyed. All five stories are unique and independent of each other. I love cozy mysteries, even if they're a bit far fetched to be real. College Can Be Murder and Killer Amnesia were my favourites.
Marley Welling's narration didn't work for me. Her voice was pleasant but she didn't 'perform' the story. There were multiple mispronunciations and some lines were repeated.
These cozy mysteries are short, to the point, and most of them are predictable from the start. College Can be Murder was my favorite of these because it wasn't predictable like the others.
I liked this narrator for the most part because her voice is pleasant to listen to and her pace and timing are just right until I listened to Murder in Happy Creek. It seemed like she just read that story. Also, in all of the books, she had some pronunciation errors.
Another great set of books from Meredith Potts. I just love these books they draw you in from the very beginning and have me guessing until the very end. The characters are believable and likable. They are quick reads and so in no time you are finished. I haven't found a book from this author that I didn't like. So if you like cozy mysteries ( no gore or bad language) these books are for you.
I thought these books were adorable, I enjoyed them :) I thought it was a very entertaining read all around, and the narration was good. If you're a cozy fan, I think this is a great addition to your library. Cozy on up and enjoy! :) Great value and fun stories :) I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Meredith Potts Cozy Mystery Anthology by Meredith Potts was a good read. This anthology consisted of Killer Amnesia, College Can Be Murder, The Last Frontier of Murder, Deadpan Murder and Murder in Happy Creek. I enjoyed reading this anthology by Meredith Potts and can't wait to read more by the author.
It was trite, poorly written. Descriptions were overworked and so "wordy". Plots were absurd. It honestly felt like it was written by a child with not much imagination that likes to read the dictionary and throw $2 words into conversation.
5 mystery from different series, protagonist, all enjoyable. Meeting a pastors daughter, or finding boyfriend dying, to a Librarian turned sleuth. Stories are good narrator was okay.
Good, clean reading and keeps you interested without vulgar language. Thank you Meredith Potts, I really enjoy your books. Looking forward to reading more.
