Wow! Anna B. Doe really delivers in this beautiful YA fairy tale romance. Underwater was truly a light and fun summer read. It's unique, refreshing and absolutely magical.

Without giving too much away, the story follows Marissa as she bravely risks her life to save the boy that she has loved for years. But in order to do so, she had to bargain and now must uphold her end of the deal. She has just three months to complete the task or her world will be forever changed.

The gorgeous cover and intriguing blurb are what drew me to this novel, but the story-line is what truly hooked me. It was wonderfully written with a well developed plot and endearing characters that I fell head over heels for. I am completely enchanted by this whole new world that Anna B. Doe has created.

I Loved this book!! It was super refreshing, and adorable to boot. Don't be mistaken, this book isn't sugary sweet, but it's for sure safe for younger teens to read. There is language in a few spots, lets be real, your teens says this words.LOL The story was light, but there was a message to be had. The characters were well thought out, the world created by the author is magical, no pun intended. This is a paranormal YA romance, even if it's not your thing, this book is just pure enjoyment. I think I have been reading so many mature YA and NA romances lately, so this was a breath of fresh air. Told in dual pov, it's a great summer read.

The first thing that drew me into reading this book was the fact that it was a retelling of one of my favorite fairy tales—The Little Mermaid. But with Underwater, Anna B. Doe put her own magic twists and delivered her very own version.

A wonderfully modern fairytale of young, unrequited love that will definitely keep you turning the pages. Cute, sweet, and with its own brand of angst and longing.

There were a few times where I wanted to punch Marissa so bad, I just wanted her to open her eyes and see what was in front of her. Caleb, on the other hand, was my favorite character—he was book-boyfriend material, and I loved him to pieces.

Overall, 3.5-4 stars! If you are in the mood for a story with a fantasy feel and a summertime vibe, this is the one for you! Be ready to dive Underwater!

A modern day fairy tale with a whole lot of angst, unrequited love and an unexpected forever.

To save the life of the boy she’s been in love with for years, she makes a deal with the ocean nymph. She has three months to break the curse, or her life as a human will be over and she will become a mermaid forever.

Seems like an attainable task to make the boy you love, love you back. However, it’s not when he never “sees” you as anything more than a friend. She’s got to up her game plan.

Marissa is willing to do whatever it takes to make Ty love her, including making him jealous by dating his best friend Caleb. Nothing like a fake boyfriend to make him notice you. It seemed like a great plan at the time.

This was a fun fantasy read. I enjoyed these characters and the love that developed. Caleb was the bad boy with a big heart. Ty was completely clueless in all things to do with Marissa. Marissa was self-sacrificing and had tunnel vision when it came to matters of the heart. Good thing they all eventually figured out the way things were meant to be.

It was a story that I enjoyed. A great escape for something a little bit different. And they lived Happily Ever After.

Uživala sam u ovoj knjizi. Likovi su interesantni kao i zaplet. Knjiga se lako čita i vuče te da vidiš kako će Marisa da se izvuče iz problema u koje je upala... a osim toga.. Sireneee!!! Kome treba nešto više od toga? :D

I love fairytales. I love fairytale retellings. I love seeing different ways stories we grew up with, written in the eyes of different authors with their own spin to it. The Little Mermaid was always a favorite of mine and Anna did not disappoint. She took the classic tale, bringing it into modern day with adventure, double unrequited love, lots of heart pitter patters, sweetness, sadness, anxiousness, and happiness. Let me tell you, the way this was written, you could visually picture everything. Ms. Doe wrote this so well, I was entranced. This book flew by for me, I was literally watching a movie in my mind.

Marissa has been in love with her friend Ty for as long as she can remember. But its unrequited. In a moment of dire emergency, she is in the midst of a deal, unbeknownst to her, a curse that is time sensitive. While her major heart eyes only saw Taylor over the years, there is also someone who is carrying that unrequited feeling for her. She is trying to figure out how to get out of her mess, because her life as a human is dependant on her breaking the curse. I could feel my heart breaking for our hero but while I won't divulge too much, BUT.......they do get their happy ever after and I was soooo there for it!!!!!

This book felt quite magical. The cover is GORGEOUS. It fits the book perfectly. Dual POVs, which I love. If you love fairytales, this one will easily pull you in from the beginning. If fairytales aren't your thing, Anna's writing, I think still will hook you in. I could not put it down unless I absolutely HAD to. I simply enjoyed it very much.

"I see you Marissa."

Such a great, easy-to-read story! I read this in one night - I couldn't put it down!

Underwater was a fast-paced, fantastically written story of mermaids, unrequited love, fake relationships, secrets, with a little suspense added to the mix.

Marissa risks her own life to save the life of the guy she loves. Now she's on a mission to save her own life before time runs out.

The story wastes no time diving in to the drama. I loved how the fairytale retelling gave us a glimpse of the "friendly" mermaids we loved as kids and mixed it with the sirens that aren't as nice. Marissa's necklace was such a great touch to this story.

I loved how it mixed high school and all the issues that come with it to a fantasy/ fairytale.

If you love drama and angst in a new adult romance, I highly suggest this. Just note - there is heat between the two main characters but no sex.

I love this twist on the classic mermaid tail. Plus who doesn't like a good fake relationship story.

You get to experience what it is like to swim underwater and be a mermaid with Marissa.

Then there is Caleb. He's a bad boy with a heart of gold underneath. The whole time you are rooting for him to get the girl, and just like what makes Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid one of my favorite princes (even thought he's not a prince himself) is he fights for his girl.

I'd recommend diving in to this book.

This is a perfect YA read. It’s fairytale like so I wasn’t sure if it’d be my thing but it absolutely was! Anna’s writing drew me in from the first chapter and I continued to flip the pages to find out more about Marissa and her new adventure (which lets be real, how interesting are Mermaids?! So intriguing!). This YA was like nothing I’ve ever read before. I highly recommend for a light, intriguing summer read! And have you seen that cover and blurb?!! 🙌🏼

"Underwater" by Anna B. Doe is a young adult romantic novel, a modern fairy tale, fantastic elements and with very handsome surfers that you will hesitate who you choose. This is the first book I've read by this author, and it's been a long time since I've read a book like this and I've enjoyed it the most. This very original story captures you and makes you want to be the protagonist in countless times.

Marissa is a teenager who lives on an island of Hawaii quietly, until the day the guy she likes is hit by a wave while surfing and disappears to the sea bottom. Marissa doesn't hesitate to come to his rescue, and she will find an ocean nymph that will help her, without realizing that everything has its price.

From the beginning, I knew how to choose the character with whom the curse would be broken. Before it all happened, I knew that this character would steal Marissa's heart. I loved that the curse gave enough time, and the necklace was a perfect element. The scenes in the water were very well detailed, and I loved the dolphins. I have no doubt that I will read it again in the near future and I recommend it to everyone because it is a very magical story, unique and impossible not to enjoy.

This is a good reinvention of a fairy tale. It is well written and interesting. I’m sure the young adult readers will enjoy it. I can see this as a folk tale being told around a large bonfire on a beach. The wise old grandfather would be emphasizing the major points in this story- Be careful what you wish for, and don’t take everyone at face value. Question, question, question your decisions. Sometimes there is more to someone than you could imagine. Look at what is right in front of you before you make a hasty decision. I think you understand what I’m saying.

Back to the story. Marissa is a high school senior living in Hawaii. She has loved Tyson since she first met him years ago. Of course, to him, she is just a friend. In her pursuit of him, she will do anything. This almost brings about her downfall. When he is caught surfing in a dangerous storm and pulled under, she must save him. She pulls it off with the help of a magical creature but her life changes forever. She has three months to get the man holding her heart to admit it or she will be doomed.

Then, along comes Ty’s best friend Chad. He is actually in love with Marissa, but she barely tolerates him. In a bid to make Ty jealous, Chad pretends to be her boyfriend. When all the truths come out, this becomes a cute little love story. I would recommend this book to all ages who enjoy light reading.

Underwater was so unique, original and different from anything I read so far,and I loved it. While reading it I found myself lost in this fairytale created on the little island in Hawaii. I enjoyed it so much, and I liked every single character in it, witch is rare for me.
Marissa is someone who reminded me a lot of myself and my friends in our early high school days. Her love for the ocean is something that I could easily connect to, since I grew up by the ocean myself.I could understand what drew Marissa to Ty, but my heart was owned from the first moment he appeared by Caleb. Kind, charming guy with warm hazel eyes. I have to admit that I liked him a little bit more than Marissa and I enjoyed reading his POV. It made reading this book even better for me.
.
▪️”How does he do it? Most of the time he’s driving me crazy, but then there are times like this. Moments when he’s my anchor in the middle of the storm.”
.
▪️”The boy who sees way more than he should see. The boy who looks at me with those taunting, beautiful eyes, like he knows way more than he should know. Like he feels way more than he should feel.”

Underwater is magical and perfect summer read. I don’t want to talk a lot about things that happen in it, I think people should go in it blind and enjoy it like I did.And I have to say that this cover is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen, I couldn’t stop staring at it. Can’t wait to have paperback version✨

I loved this refreshing modern day fairytale. It’s a little different but it’s a fun and enjoyable book that’s takes you away for a moment.

Marissa and Ty were great together, their story was very interesting and I couldn’t wait to see how it would unfold. The angst of wondering whether or not Ty would return Marissa’s unrequited love had me biting my nails.

Underwater is a great escape that I recommend reading.

There is something magical about this story that is swoon-worthy. Underwater by Anna B. Doe is a story that makes you sigh that happy sigh at the end and just love it. It’s a fast-paced story that has all the details and feels throughout. It had me wanting to slap Marissa upside the head at times, but I still loved her determination.

Marissa is just a normal girl living life by the water in Hawaii until one night, a nasty storm rolls in and changes her life. Risking her own life to save the boy she loves and then dealing with the consequences of her own actions from that night.

Going through the emotions of what she has done and figuring out to reverse it all is one challenge where Marissa needs to step up her game.

One thing I loved about this story is that we get to jump into the mix of things right from the start. From there on, we just keep going not stopping till the last page. Sometimes I don't want to read the slow burn and build up, and this story was perfect for me!! Jump in and let’s go!!!

Underwater sucked me right in and I was so curious to see where it would go. Marissa is trying her hardest to save the love of her life from drowning and to do so, she makes a deal with an ocean nymph. She has three full moons and if the boy who has her heart doesn't confess his love, Marissa will take the ocean nymph's place in the ocean. The ocean nymph will get Marissa's legs and place on land.

This story started off really strong for me. I loved that Marissa was curious about the curse and even asked her grandfather about mermaids. Then it fell kind of flat. It was odd that someone who is facing a curse like this doesn't research it more. I mean, of course she'll go after the guy she's been in love with, but that is where it kind of ended. Accepting something so easily felt odd, because it was clear she was fighting to break this curse.

Marissa has been in love with Ty all her life and he's clearly clueless. So to get him to finally see her will be quite the task. Enter Caleb, someone Marissa knows and feels some sort of attraction to. What's a better way to get Ty's attention than to make him jealous by dating someone else. This did have some fun moments, because it's clear there is a connection.

This love triangle made it hard for me though, because at a certain point I felt like the book was only focusing on the romance. Marissa was going back and forth between her feelings even though it was obvious to everyone she was in love with Caleb. I mean the romance will be a big part of the book, because of the curse, but it just felt like too much. And I am a fan of romance.

Underwater is told from both Marissa and Caleb's POV (even though I would've liked more of his from time to time). It does give us a bit of more of the story and I loved Caleb, but I missed some more about him. It's like the character development stayed on the surface. I just needed a bit more.

All in all, it was a fun summer read. Marissa's best friend was hilarious and I loved her trying to help Marissa solve her boy problems. I also loved the little references to Marvel and stuff like that. Authors adding some of my favorite fandoms is always a plus. If you're a big fan of love triangles, this book is definitely for you.

Let me just comment on the playlist for this book first... It’s freaking perfect for this book and I’m currently listening to while I’m writing this review.
Okay, now about this book... Underwater was exactly what I wanted. Exactly what I needed. It was perfect and made me heart swoon. I felt like I was missing something these past few days but after reading this, everything just clicked in place. I needed a heart warming book that would make me feel light, warm and fuzzy. I was not expecting this book!

Marissa Davenport has been crushing on one of her friends for years but he has no clue. He only views her as a friend but that doesn’t stop her from saving his life after nearly drowning. That heroic attempt set a curse in motion. Marissa is now a mermaid (something she didn’t know existed) and if she doesn’t accomplish her task in the required time, she will forever be stuck as a mermaid. She gets help from an unexpected source and that changes everything. Her time is running out and she is more conflicted than ever.

One of my favorite tropes is fake relationship and the fact that this book had it made me love it all the more. I found Marissa really relatable and my heart broke at how much effort she put in trying to make the boy notice her. The only problem I had with this book was that I wanted a bit more clarity on our hero and if anything happened between him and the girls he was with. That didn’t change how much I loved him though. He was incredibly sweet and endearing. I was rooting for him from the start. I will definitely be re-reading this book. It gave me Aquamarine and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before vibes.

I loved how different this story was. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with the blurb on this, and I think that's why I decided to read it! There were aspects of the story that were your typical "fairytale" and your typical high school romance, but Anna gave us some really great twists and turns along the way.

Marissa's character is sooo strong in this story. I adore her and Noel, they are everything you think of for best friends who live next door to each other. Part of this, includes boys and secrets! Marissa had a HUGE secret throughout this book, and I thought it was super interesting that she never told Noel. For that matter, I was shocked she kept her secret to herself as long as she did. My favorite part of their friendship was that Noel knew her so well. When it came to Ty and Caleb, Noel was the first person to know how Marissa was feeling, probably even before Marissa.

Now, throw in Ty and Caleb. From the moment we meet them I knew each was special for very different reasons. Ty was your typically boy crush, the boy that the girl pined over all of her life. I really liked that Noel wanted to help push Marissa to finally show how she felt! At the same time, I couldn't believe the lengths that Noel went to help Ty. Then we have Caleb, who was the super hot, bad boy type. In so many ways Caleb helped rescue Marissa. Seeing Marissa have her inner turmoil over which guy to pick was everything in this story.

One of my favorite parts of a YA story is the raw and real emotions. The emotions that both Caleb, Ty and Marissa all feel are SO relatable! I will always remember the crush that I never told, or the guy who liked me and I didn't know. So many things! Throw in best friends like Rob and Noel, and you definitely have a great high school story. I really enjoyed this story a lot. I liked how it was different and I liked how it had a lot of layers too it. It was a lot more than you might expect from the description, and that's always a plus!

We all are know the story of the little mermaid. We are all fimiliar with the stories of this mythical creatures that roam about the dept of the deep blue oceans and are equally beautiful and dangerous. This story is not about a mermaid but about a highschool girl who was in love with a boy for as long as she could remember. According to the story, little mermaid gave away her voice to be with the Prince. But here our protagonist gave away her freedom and her life as she knew it to save the one she loves. The story starts with protagonist's the long time crush- Taylor being swept under the sea when a storm hits the coast. He would have been killed in that incident if not for Marissa who saw the whole thing and rushed to save him almost dying herself. But she was saved by a mythical creature in exchange for a pact. A pact- where Merissa will change into a mermaid as soon as she touches the sea. And she will forever be a mermaid in three moon's time if the boy whom she loves doesn't confess his love for her. Thus, begins a beautiful story of first love, misunderstandings, first crushes,a blooming romance, late night dips in the sea, mythical creatures and a curse which threatens blur the lines between real and mythical. This story is so surprising and lovely that I loved it from the very begining. And it also has a twist that you won't expect( sorry I can't tell you. @annabdoe won't allow me😌)
This is a lovely story with both light-funny contents and dark humour. I loved Merissa's sense of humour and her pure heart. Also the supporting characters are awesome. I loved her bestfriend and her mother and also her grandpa.
And the chemistry between her and the boy-who-owns-her-heart was swoonworthy. It was a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟read for me. (P.S. the edit is mine but the p.c. goes to pinterest). Hope you all love it. It comes out on 28.06.19

A YA fantasy that lets you escape to a world of fantasy, magic and love. You’ll never be the same after reading this story.

Can I just say I love this book!! When I first started it, I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. As I was reading, it was done in a matter of hours. The fantasy of mermaids has to come to life in this book! This young adult story is a surprise that you will want to unwrap again and again. The author has created a jewel in the rough!! Anna B. Doe has created a fantasy world that comes to life right in front of you.

I have never read a story quite like this that makes you believe in magic and love again!! Seriously- an amazing, well written, emotional story that helps you see sometimes you need to open your eyes to what is right in front of you. Anna B. Doe has another hit on her hands!

The characters and plot were spot on and it kept your attention from the beginning to the very last page. The chemistry between the characters sizzle and is very natural. The authors words help you escape from the real world and live in this world for the short time you are reading this book.

Marissa - Caleb - Taylor - and Noel - they are these amazing people who have been friends for a long time. Marissa saves someone and gives up a piece of herself to save them. She comes up with a plan on how to save herself from her fate, but the it turns out to be more than she expected. It works out how it is supposed to with many twists and turns. It has all the elements of YA that you love, along with with fantasy and mystery. Go one click this book now!!

Very impressive!

Underwater is a great story, beautifully written. The characters were really good-written and likable. The ending was just wonderful and so emotional.
Marissa & Caleb had a great connection. I really like their story and enjoy reading Marissa POV.
It’s very different from Anna’s previous work. It’s an easy beach read and perfect for the summer. I love the whole imaginary world that she has created.
This book is an amazing fantasy adventure. Wonderful YA fiction. But something I missed there and because of that I only give it 4 stars. I know that Anna can do better and I would love to read more fantasy stories by her. Hope she will soon write another one.
You can find here fantasy, romance, teen drama, mermaid, dolphin and much more… So if you fan of all that and if you prefer easy quick reads this one is perfect for you. I would recommend it!

Underwater
Genre: YA Fantasy, Romance
Book Cover: I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I can't stop staring at the cover the first time I saw it!
Plot/Setting: I loved the storyline and how Anna interpreted her own version of "The Little Mermaid". It actually wasn't what I expected, which was really good. I loved that it also had summer vibes which is a good time to read for this season.
Characters: I loved the hero more than the heroine. She kinda annoyed me a bit but given the circumstances and her age, it's pretty reasonable why she acted that way. The hero was great! I loved him! He was really sweet.
Romance: It was sweet! I loved that my ship sailed and not the other way around lol.
Overall, 3.5-4 stars! It was a good YA fantasy read, I wished that it was a little bit longer and Anna could have written more depth with the story and of course the romance. I wanted the leads to have more moments but otherwise GREAT READ!

5+ Stars

Underwater was a fabulous book! I love a good fairy tale, especially a modern fairy tale that rewrites an old favorite and gives it a twist. When I read the blurb for Underwater, I just had to read it! I was not disappointed.

Marissa is a loyal friend and incredibly brave. I admire her selflessness; I’m not sure if I could be as brave as she is! Caleb has the patience of a saint and is very sweet with Marissa. Everyone should have a Caleb in their lives. Taylor made me so frustrated! I wanted to shake him more than once! He was rather clueless and immature. I guess that may be in part because they are high school students.

The plot was somewhat of a slow burn. The beginning felt like it dragged just a bit, but then it picked up and had me on the edge of my seat. I was so worried for everyone involved! Underwater is a sweet story and not very explicit, which didn’t detract from the book at all. The epilogues tied everything up nicely and gave me a sense of closure.

This was my first book by Anna B. Doe. I thoroughly enjoyed Underwater, and I hope she will be writing more modern fairy tales. I would definitely one click them!

ARC provided for an honest review 🧜🏼‍♀️

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the twist Anna B Doe put on the classic tale “The Little Mermaid.” This book reminded me why I love dabbling in reading YA. It was beautifully written, fast-paced, and intriguing for a summer romance.

Marissa makes a deal with an ocean nymph to save the boy she loves. In return, she has three months to break the curse or live the rest of her life underwater. But can she make the boy she loves, fall in love with her? And what else is she missing along the way? And is being a mermaid for the rest of your life really that bad? (I added that in because let’s be real it seems like a good time 😉🧜🏼‍♀️🐠🐚)

I enjoyed all of the characters in the story! And Anna did a fantastic job describing and illustrating the surf culture of today! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet summer read!

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

A BRILLIANT TWIST ON A CHILDHOOD FAIRYTALE THAT TOOK MY BREATH AWAY! Underwater was smart, angsty, unique and had a message that called to the very heart of me.

This is my first book by Anna B. Doe and one of the BEST things I have read in a long while. Sweet, mesmerizing and with unforgettable characters and a plot that kept me engrossed from start to finish, this story was unbelievably appealing. I loved getting lost in the waves of the story and watching a young woman find that sometimes, what you are looking for can be right in front of you from the very start. This book had some great feels too. I enjoyed it greatly and can't wait to read ALL the stories from Miss Anna B. Doe!

Underwater gets a BRILLIANT FIVE BREATHTAKING STARS!

This modern take on a fairytale is a joy to read. It’s so well written that after a while you forget that it’s fantasy and accept that mermaids exist.

Marissa trades her humanity to save her childhood crush from drowning. In order to remain human, she has to get him to confess his love from her within three months.

This is easier said than done. She has to get him to notice her first. With no one to confide in, she accepts the help of Caleb, a boy who has very much noticed her.

The longing, the angst and emotions of unrequited love are all present in full force in this book. I couldn’t put it down and practically devoured it. A sure fire must read.

This modern day fairy tale started a little slow for me. Marissa makes a crazy decision to save the boys she's been in love with for years. But now she's gotta deal with the consequences of making the deal. She only has three months to break the curse or she will be a mermaid forever. Making Ty love her isnt easy though she even dates his best friend Caleb to make him notice her. Marissa drove me bananas with her wishy washy self and Caleb lord help him you know he wants her and thankfully doesn't give up!
