When Care-flight delivered a roughneck to Dr. Heather Hunter's trauma unit, it turned her world upside down. Heather found herself in love with someone her mother found socially unacceptable. Someone whose job was so dangerous Heather fought falling in love to avoid a broken heart. Little did she know that her loved one was courting danger far deadlier than working on an oil rig. In the fast-moving, hard-loving, world of Texas oil tycoons and terrorists hell bent on destroying the Texas oil industry Dr. Hunter finds love in the fast lane breath taking and indescribably satisfying. Trinidad Winfield was to women what the Silver Ghost was to the one-in-a-million and beyond gorgeous. “It was like wrapping my legs around a tornado; wild and raging and satisfying. Do you know you growl when you reach a certain point? It’s very animalistic and so damn sexy. I just wanted to clamp my legs around you and suck you in.”
With a degree in accounting, I set out to conquer my quiet little corner of the world. My plan was to work for a major accounting firm and live a comfortable life. One never knows where fate will lead. I soon discovered I liked taking chances and started acquiring small parcels of land to resale. Within a year, I found myself immersed in the fun of land brokering. My native state, Texas, is a wide-open community of wonderful people and vast amounts of land. Opportunities in Texas are limitless. Texas and the fact that I am a workaholic were the perfect recipe for success. I have visited every state in the U.S. and lived in some, but Texas is always the one that calls me home. I thought I had the world by the tail; a nice little ranch that bordered a Texas lake, a horse and a few head of cattle. Life was good. Then I met a woman and life was no longer good, it was amazing. Now my life is an adventure of love and laughter. My partner encouraged me to begin writing. I published my first book in 2014 and have been successful in the Mystery/Suspense genre. Too Strong to Die is my first gay book. I am proud to say that after one week, on 2/1/2017, it is the #1 (Paid) Lesbian book on Amazon. Thank you so much for making it happen. Please let me hear from you. Should I continue writing for our community or stick with my Mystery/Suspense books?
2.5 Stars for the audiobook. Others loved this book, so your mileage may differ.
First off Victoria Mei is a new narrator for me (4.5 Stars). She is good but I heard a slight lisp, but that might just be me. I got used to it and it didn’t bother me. I'll listen to her again.
This book however just wasn’t for me. I just couldn’t get into the story. I liked the MC’s but the circumstances they are thrown into were just too much. It’s like watching a bad summer action movie that you are watching just for the air conditioning (remember Armageddon?). As we watched Armageddon my friend kept saying “That’s not right, it’s scientifically impossible” I had to keep telling her to stop thinking and just watch. In this instance I couldn't stop thinking and just read.
It started off wrong for me at the start. I can usually suspend belief but not in this instance. A doctor that doesn’t know that her patient is a female? No matter the emergency they read the charts or their assistant reads it to them. Gender is important for medicines and such.
I did go to Amazon to buy the ebook. Sometimes reading on my own will help me to enjoy a book more, but $10 was too much to take the chance.
Do you remember Donkey Kong, the classic arcade game? Do you remember Donkey Kong tossing barrels and oil drums to Mario? Well, this book reminds me of that game. The author keeps on tossing persistently problems and difficulties to the two main characters, superwoman and wonderwoman. Or sort of. 2 stars for quality. 3 for entertainment. It's a pity I can't give it 2.5 stars.
This was a really nice read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say that from the synopsis i thought this was going to be more of a butch femme novel but its not. Thats not to say that its not a good read. There is a lot of romance and a lot of hurdles that Heather and Tin have to jump through. And just so you know there are no exotic scenes which honestly I was really ok with. So the story is Dr. Heather Hunter reattaches Trin "Scott's" hand. She thinks Trin is a male but finds out very early on that she in fact is a woman. They become friends over a year and lovers 6 months after that and then all hell breaks loose for them. They have sex driven Fathers, scorned lovers, ladder climbing mothers, and one track minded Iranians. Despite the length of the book things dont actually all get answered. At the end I felt something wrapped up nicely but it left with the possibility of another book which I hope there is. I mean what ultimately happened with Roxie and Cattle Ball, was Reed really telling the truth, and what about Melody? Then there is the issue happenong in the Gulf. Anyway, I liked it enough that I am looking forward to the book that Ms. Wade has a snippet of at the end of this one.
I did not finish this. I've been trying for months. I keep coming back to it trying to finish...but in the end I just could not. I really don't understand all the high ratings for this. It makes both MCs out to be super heroes or something. It's completely unrealistic and even though I enjoy some suspension of reality....I just couldn't get there with this read.
After reading a few not so great reviews I worried this wouldn't be a good read for me. So glad I decided to take the chance. Yes, some aspects are bit far fetched but I feel it makes it all the more intriguing. There is so much happening in this book that there's never a dull moment. I absolutely loved the MCs, especially Trin. I couldn't decide if I wanted to be her or dater her. The romance builds quickly and leaves no doubt that there's some serious chemistry between Trin and Heather. The only thing I found a bit disappointing were some of the gaps in the timeline. I would have loved for them to be filled in with more of the story. The gaps did keep the book moving along at a nice pace though. The ending leaves me wondering if there might be a sequel. If there is, I will definitely be reading it.
This story started really well, but went downhill almost immediately after. It didn't have any background for the main characters and there were so many supposed enemies I was rolling my eyes thinking about them. I almost didn't finish it, but persevered because otherwise it would have been a waste of money. I'm not sure why this book had the good reviews it got, but they were wrong. Perhaps if this book hadn't been cut in so many places or even if the author had stuck with one of two storylines I might have been able to enjoy it. Definitely not worth my time reading.
I have a problem when a book starts that a surgeon, re-attaching a patient's hand, cannot tell whether the patient is a female or male. Then months later, the patient's name is corrected and the surgeon realizes the patient is a gorgeous woman. I still gave it a chance. I know I'm going against most of the reviews, but I went thru almost half the book. It didn't keep me interested. This is my first book by this author, all her books are set in Texas. Hmm.
This was the most frustrating book I have e read in a long time. The basic premise was really good, but it was like reading a book on fast forward. Additionally some of the plot parts were completely unbelievable. I had to give up reading it at around 35% as it was too jarring and frustrating
The non-romance content was enough that the story wasn't just about two women falling into bed with each other, and it felt like the main chars were building an actual relationship, which suited my need for character development and real-seeming connections.
I'm coming to enjoy stories which combine lez romance and plots from other genres I liked and this one worked out fairly well. I'll be looking for more Erin Wade novels in the future. :)
Trin & Heather are the new women in Erin’s latest! Another book filled with strong women to love & bad guys to hate! Lots of sexy times & action fill the pages of The Roughneck & the Lady! I read this one too fast, dang it! Now I have to wait for Erin’s next book!
Absolutely amazing! I truly enjoyed the story by Erin Wade. I love that it was ongoing from meeting to married life and all the adventures in between. It was well written. Awesome chemistry. Hopefully a sequel.
📍 “She’d thought she had a full life, but she realized how empty it had been without Trin. Trinidad Winfield filled every crevice of her world. I’m content to simply lie beside her.” + • + • + • +

Represents everything about this book with one shady sentence! Starts as an oversimplified love story, more summary than substantial. But its the 2nd half is where this finds success. With the emphasis on the action mystery plot, it manages to be an interesting & engaging enough to overlook the superficial & still entertaining enough to find likeable in the end.
A suspenseful story with a smoking hot love couple. It is about the ultra wealthy, a mother who is dazzled by the oil-rich, terrorist actions, an obsessive desire and so much more. The plot is woven masterfully and the characters are fascinating. The vivid descriptions of places and actions is well done. In fact, there isn't anything I didn't like about this story. Except the end. I didn't want it to end. Yes, Erin Wade has written another brilliant story and I can't wait for her next book.
Read one of her books which shows far right views. She supports a wall and everything Trump believes she a good but not spectacular writer. Not worth it
It's a good story. I loved Trin and Heather they were amazing for each other and I enjoyed it, but I have a few issues with it and one of which peeved me off.
Some plot issues. Simple stuff like chinese turned into pizza, time skips with zero reference to it, so it was a bit confusing until I just accepted it. Marie Antoinette never said, "Let them eat cake." Lastly, Peter still being allowed anywhere near a hospital, considering he is a hack. They had reports from nurses of him sexually harassing them, and yet he was not suspended immediately and still allowed access to the hospital. I don't care how much he thinks he owes his dad accepting you wouldn't want him working on people but still letting him is gross negligence at best and frankly it peeves me of the utmost.

2.5~3.5?... it's kinda a clusterf*ck. High value in entertainment but I was also having an anxiety attack the whole time. I almost gave up (well technically I did) half way, then I read the last few chapters, then I basically read every few chapters backwards 'til where I left off.
If you like watching a compilation of every season finales of a 10-season-series or a high-stake telenovela, you probably will like this. Highly unrealistic so like just ignore the absurdity of the situation. I wouldn't read this as a series, so I guess I appreciate this being fast paced and told in recalling or summarizing instead of dragging out conflicts, but it's a lot.
Looking for a little distraction, this book will do the trick. The main characters are up right women, heroic, professionals, and wealthy. The roughneck character is a little outlandish but if you read it for fun you’ll hardly roll your eyes. I mean, I don’t think there were very many female snipers with the rank of Colonel working in Afghanistan 😆 but it’s fun to imagine.
I am always surprised when people are upset when a fiction book doesn't sound "real". It's fiction, not suppose to be real folks.
Fiction is entertainment and this one does exactly that. It's an action thriller that keeps you turning pages and a love story that everyone wishes they had. Erin is often too ethnocentric but everyone has a right to their opinion and that does not take away from the entertainment of the book.
Trinidad Scoot Winfield is a geologist and agent in Texas protecting the oil industry. After a terrorist explosion on an oil rig, she loses her left hand but is miraculously restored by Dr. Heather Hunter. The women become friends and over time working together on The Cattle Baron’s Ball they become more. A thriller and adventure with strong characters. Erin Wade’s stories are amazing.
This was an entertaining read. However, I do not know how these two characters survive. They have so much thrown at them. Most of the action happens after the characters get together. I had a hard time believing that these smart, accomplished women didn’t get a hint of some of their “friends” causing most of the problems.
Damn she is good. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have read a number of her books and they are always exceptionally and brilliantly written. I only have one complain. Erin could you sell your books at more affordable price ? I really want to read the others.
A good read with lots of plot points and action. Would have liked the passage of time to have been laid out a little more clearly though. I was several paragraphs in before I realized a time jump had happened a couple of times.
This as attention grabber. Action, protection of oil fields great MC's who are both over the top wealthy. Even though released in 2018 it is a believable story that will keep you awake and on edge chasing the bad guys!
I liked the characters immediately although I think Trin is a bit too multifaceted to be realistic. I do like the intrigue and the international elements. There should absolutely be a sequel to this book!
To be one of my favorite characters. Heather and her father are a good team. You don't see the end coming the way it does, but it doesn't disappoint. If you don't believe me read it.
Incredible story with lots of twists and turns. Love the two intelligent and caring main characters. You will fall in love with the roughneck and lady.
