BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This short biography briefly covers a variety of major events from JFK’s childhood, including his service in the war, his run for presidency, his marriage, the Cuban missile crisis, and his assasination. Each period includes a title, the years, and an illustration.
This was a quick read and covers the main event of JFK’s life. That said, I did want to know more and found the lack of depth a bit of a barrier. For young readers this will hopefully lead them to find other books to learn more about the people they are interested in.

Covering his formative years, his military service, and his rise to fame and influence through election to the House of Representatives and Senate, and then his later, election as President of the United States, this small biography introduces readers to the first Catholic president. It briefly covers some of the challenges Kennedy faced as the nation's leader and his assassination. Readers will be pleased to find a mention of Jackie, his future wife, and a helpful timeline. Additional back matter includes a map depicting six important spots, a small profile of four important individuals from his time period, and four "Did You Know?" snippets about JFK. It's fun--and almost addictive--to read these Pocket Bios. I'm curious to know which individuals will be featured next. Certainly, they distill the essence of the individual and prompt curiosity on the part of readers, most of whom will want to learn even more.
