He says he wants to save me.
I think he wants to own me.

My hands behind my back. My face in a pillow.
I was sick, broken. My life was going to end.
Until Julian pulled me back from the edge.
Muscular chest. Defined abs. Gorgeous, bright eyes.
Julian's a beacon and a black hole. Every move screams sex.
He gave me new purpose, new meaning.
But he's dangerous. Dark.
There's something terrifying inside of him.
I can't look away, but I'm too scared to reach out for his touch.
I crave him. I'm afraid of him.
He's the only thing standing between me and the people that want to hurt me.
But I don't think he's much better.
I should run.
Except I'm tied to the bed, and he'll be back soon...
And when that door opens, I know I'm in for a punishment.
The only problem is, I can't wait.

Summer Loving is a steamy, rough-and-tied-up dark romance with adult themes and some violence. It's only for readers 18+ looking for a dirty time.

Very original and super sexy.

Totally hot and steamy, I loved the intimate scenes between these two odd characters. This was quite a different story than I am used to. Julian is a guy who used to fight for money but is now trying to be a better person. In doing a favor for a friend, he ends up killing a junkie dealer in self defense, but with his record, no cop would believe it, so he takes off with the guy’s drug addict girlfriend, Kaylee, and forces her to stay with him.

Julian ends up getting Kay clean and taking care of her, while trying to figure out who set them up. It turns out they need to stay together for their own safety and they end up working together and falling for each other. The story is interesting and original and the romance has a heat index of a solid five flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 out of five. I loved their every interaction with each other and the suspense and intrigue of the storyline.

They find out that a heavy hitter in town is after them and he is not about to let them go. While they try to figure things out and stay out of sight, they get more involved. This story was great because it wasn’t your standard thriller or a Billionaire romance. I don’t want to give away spoilers because it is a fairly quick read, at a little less than 200 pages. I read it straight through though and really enjoyed it.

4.5 stars!!
this was the first dark romance that i'd read from B.B Hamel. i loveeed her other Possessive and Daddies series because it's so well written and you get all the steam, humor and emotions in one whole package. i got this on impulse after reading the blurb but i'm totally not regretting it because this was real good! 🙈

okay so firstly, it's dark in the sense that heavy topics were involved.
secondly, the suspense. i had literally no idea how it's all gonna turn out in the end, which kept me guessing all the way to the last chapter. first chapter started with Julian ended up killing some junkie dealer, leaving him and Kaylee. knowing that both of them were targeted, he had to bring Kaylee along with him. and that's where the story begins.

Both Kaylee and Julian had difficult and complicated lives. Julian's background was interesting too. and i love those parts where Julian took care of Kaylee while she struggled . they fell for each other unknowingly and of course, their sex scenes were REAL crazy HOT 🔥🔥

"I want to push her, test her limits. “You know you’re fucked up,” I whisper to her. "You need something new to get addicted to. You’re addicted to this dick and you know it.” OKAY

it's a rather short read and i think that's why the ending was a little rushed. but overall, i enjoyed it! (though there were still some parts that didn't match the earlier parts) 4.5 stars!

So I love B.B. Hamel and her books. There have been a few that have been a miss for me and this is one of them. I just couldn't get into the story for some reason.

Kay is an interesting character. She is a strong female that has had a bad past with horrible parents. So she takes drugs. What falls is a string of horrible men that take advantage of her which in turn she uses to get more drugs.

Julian is a street fighter trying to make a better life. When he is set up by an old friend. When that happens he is put in front of Kay. When circumstances put these two together they are forced to stay together to stay alive.

So again read and finished this book, but didn't enjoy it as much as I usually do.

This is quite an exceptional book and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It has quite a few twists and turns that makes it an intriguing story; certainly a book I would have no hesitation in recommending. Leaving her abusive home at 16-years old, Kaylee didn’t have any money, plans, nothing. All she feels is terror, confusion, but pure joy. As time goes by she learns how to survive and be self-sufficient, but is already a drug addict when she meets Leo. Julian is a former street fighter, who is trying to get his life back together again. As a favour to a friend he agrees to one last fight, but instead finds he has been setup. As a consequence, Kaylee and Julian are drawn into a cat and mouse game by Hunter.

As a retired street fighter trying to turn his life around, Julian agrees to one more fight as a favour to a friend, which is the reason he is waiting on a beach in the middle of the night. Julian has stolen, cheated, lied and beaten men with his bare hands just to make money, but until that very moment he has never killed a man. But this has all been a setup. There is no fight; Leo had been sent to kill Julian. Addicted for 5-years, quiet and high is how Leo liked Kaylee, but Julian is taking responsibility for her now; she had only been an innocent bystander. It takes 3-days for Julian to wean Kaylee off the drugs; now it is time to talk. Kaylee is more than happy to open up to someone in a way she hasn’t in a long time. Julian doesn’t trust Kaylee yet; still she didn’t ask for any of this, just like he didn’t. Kaylee can see that her and Julian have lived very similar lives. Julian may not have been an addict, but he didn’t just end up being a violent thug randomly; they have the same brokenness inside of them. There is only one person Julian knows with the power to make something like this happen and the ruthlessness to actually go through with it. There are a hundred different reasons why Hunter would want Julian dead or in jail; but why come after him now when he has had years to make a move if he was ever going to. In the past Hunter and Julian had been best friends before he betrayed Julian. As teenage kids, they were the rich boy and the poor boy getting into trouble and flirting with girls; except in Hunter’s case he wanted something else. Julian knew too much, Kaylee had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and Leo had gotten tangled up with someone he didn’t fully understand. With a bounty on their heads there is nowhere to run, but it is Julian who is the liability, not Kaylee; she is just in the way. Stuck in an impossible situation, both of their lives on the line, they are not yet on the same team, and neither trust the other; until Kaylee decides it is time to take back her life and accept her future is with Julian. Alex and Julian have history; not a romantic one but a violent one and Julian asks for her help. Kaylee wants Julian to find another way, a better way. Julian is willing to kill to end this, and he is willing to do it for Kaylee; she just doesn’t know if she is willing to let him. Nothing is resolved, but finally there is an unspoken truce between them. The situation is complicated, but it doesn’t have to be and Kaylee comes up with a solution; they have a bargaining chip. Kaylee is special. Julian knew it the night they first met. Strong, smart, intense, beautiful; everything Julian has always wanted in someone. Now they have been thrown into this insane situation together. To Hunter, Julian is a loose end; he will never let him go, but he might let Kaylee go and Julian is willing to make that happen. This is Kaylee’s best chance; Julian got her off drugs and now he has to save her one last time, but all Kaylee sees is a trap. Hunter thinks he is putting on a show for everyone, but Alex’s eyes tell Julian she is about to do something and the consequences might change the course of everyone’s lives. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

This is my honest and voluntary review of this ARC.

Once upon a time Julian was the poor boy who was good childhood friends with the wealthy boy. But Julian witnessed something the wealthy friend didn’t want seen, and sent these two young men on different paths. One the hunter and one the hunted trying to survive. The instinct is still strong, and the fighter breaks through, it is kill or be killed. None of this was to happen, Julian was free of this world but there is a witness, a beautiful young woman.

As a teen Kaylee ran away from an abusive home and right into a different kind of abuse. The guy she calls her boyfriend hits her and keeps her a prisoner to the drugs they are strung up on. One night while strung high, helping her boyfriend hide something to use as collateral later, meet the dark stranger who is about to change her life completely. Kaylee knows to run in order to survive. Only this time she doesn’t really want to run.

Julian has no choice but to take Kaylee with him. He even helps her through a very rough time of getting clean, it really was hard for him to see her like that. Being clean is new to Kaylee and it is a bit scary and unfamiliar. Trust, once broken is a mighty hard thing to get back....both Julian and Kaylee are examples of this in motion. Fighting, running, surviving are all they know. It takes a little while for each to admit it, but their bond includes beginning to trust someone again.

Somewhere along the path these wayward souls have realized what they have and what they feel is deep seeded. It takes the trial of seeing the other not giving up and keep fighting even when wanting to give up. It opens their eyes to what this really is. It also moves them forward together once the baggage is gone, and there is no need to constantly look over their shoulders. Their happy ever after shows them now and paying it forward.

They need to work as a team to survive but Kaylee keeps pushing Julian and they end up attracted to one another and the chemistry between them is beautiful. There are a number of issues that Ms. Hamel sheds light on in this story. These issues are the gritty, unseen to most, rawness of the homeless, runaways, family abuse and hard core drug use. Just to survive day-to-day is a challenge for both the main male and female characters. These two meet up under deplorable circumstances and live by their wits. During this harrowing time they still manage to have a sexual connection. They learn to depend upon each other for their daily survival. Romance does unfold, even in these ugly circumstances. There are grisly events depicted in this tale but there is also triumph over addiction. These two manage to survive and start paying it forward in their lives. They do end up with a happy ever after.

Not my usual type of read but nonetheless I found this book edifying.

"A well-told & sizzling dark romance”

SUMMER LOVING: A Dark Romance by BB Hamel --->>> Kidnapping, heroin withdrawal, murder…and not necessarily in that order! A rough & tumble, mostly violent, ex-street fighter Julian was about to pick up a fight again, just when he was getting his life back in order, living on the down-low. But then a situation he did not see coming draws him in contact with Kaylee, and she becomes a liability. Julian is now suddenly on the run, trying to to figure out the situation while keeping a tight leash on Kaylee, a flight risk who keeps him on his toes (amongst other things), especially when she pulls out emotions and instincts beyond what he thought he was capable of. Together, though, with a little help in their corner, they find the means to take control of lives they never really had control of to begin with, and come out on the other side with their perfect HEA. Dire circumstances throw Julian and Kaylee together. She and her dead beat boyfriend think Julian is someone he's not and Julian is there for some extra cash earned from a fight. They are all surprised when a gun becomes involved. Julian and Kaylee find themselves running from someone they didnt think was a threat. What makes things harder is Kaylee is just looking for hee next hit. Withdraw happens in a hotel room with Julian who is a stranger.
As they discover who is after them, they also have an undeniable attraction. Kaylee is experiencing the world in a whole new way now that she's clean. Her attraction to Julian is more than physical. He has proven what kind of man he can be.
This is a dark romance. But it's oh so good. It has all the elements of drugs, death and some exploration of the wild side of sex. Kaylee discovers things she never thought she'd enjoy and Julian has found his match in every way.

While this is billed as a dark romance, it's not really that dark. Julian is doing one last favour for a friend when he is caught up in something much, much larger than he expected. He rescues Kay, who is high on drugs, and keeps her safe against her wishes. That's about as dark as it gets! But there is a lot of action and suspense in here, and even a bit of gore. I liked the characters, and especially Kay, who has much to overcome. Kaylee is the nice girl from a rough home, a bit naive despite her “employment”. For all his strength, Julian was scared at times and didn't have all the answers. As for the secondary characters, you couldn’t tell who was trustworthy in the group. Great ending, I loved seeing how far they had come.

4.5 Stars! This is one dark romance with lots going on. There is Julian who is on the beach one night for a staged fight when he meets a couple that are definitely high on something. The guy pulls out a gun and Julian has to defend himself, right? He ends up shooting the guy and taking off with the girl, Kaylee. She has her own issues with being hooked on heroin, abused by her parents so she ran away from home at sixteen. The guy she hooked up with is the one who got her hooked on drugs. Can she get clean? Then Julian finds out that someone was trying to kill hi so they have to go on the run. What will happen? It seems there is danger everyway they turn. Good summer love story with a HEA. Enjoy.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Julian and Kaylee. Both are out for something they never knew they were looking for until they looked at the other person. However things haven't been easy for either of them so why should them being together be any different? Can they find their HEA or have they just met their next bad thing?

This is an amazing book. It does have some rough scenes but they will grab hold of you and drag you emotionally through the ringer. There are ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

A deliciously dark, intoxicating walk into the world of right, wrong and what happens when the lines that separate, are blurred and protecting yourself, addiction, and living the only life you've ever known is what keeps voices of good and evil and at bay!
Julian and Kaylee are a perfectly imperfect pair whose paths cross for one reason but stay together for another.
Love, Lust, Sin, Rage its a heady mix in their world, and it's taking its toll on their hearts and minds.
Fighting off the dangers that be, while their heart messes with their minds, ita a recipe for a hot, page swiping read, that kept me wanting more!
So much goes on! This is a crazy train of darkness and light- One I highly suggest checking out!

This one is off the charts hot, but it’s a slow starter

I had a hard time getting into it, however about halfway through, the action picks up--in the sheets and the streets.

Julian has a filthy mouth that drives Kay crazy. The sex scenes get creative and graphic in a good way. Soooo hot. Best part of the book. Not knocking the rest of the story, but it’s just that the dirty stuff is that good.

I have a small quibble with Kay’s detox. It would have been much more unpleasant—she’s been hooked for years. She seemed to sleep through the worst and bounces back like she had a bad stomach flu. Real world accuracy often needs to be sacrificed to tell a better story.

Again, seriously hot.

What was supposed to be a staged fight on the beach ends up with one drug dealer dead and Julian on the run with Kay, the drug dealer's side kick. Although they met right before the gun went off, Julian stays by her side while the drugs get out of her system. With them both on the run from a bad man who wants Julian dead, sparks fly and passion ignites. But can the two lovers stay alive long enough to have a HEA? Or will they find that they found true love right before their demise? This story was a bit unbelievable but still a great read. The emotions that the main characters expressed and the way they stuck together to the very end was what made this a great read.

Not my usual read, little more on the dark side, gritty. Very action packed and fast paced read. It all starts as if in the wrong place at the wrong time, Julian is a retired street fighter have has agreed to one last fight, all for the cameras but as he's waiting a druggie comes up, a gun appears and the scene ends with someone dead and to strangers running for cover. Kaylee has been abuse all her life, her current guy had been keeping her in a state of high but he lays dead and she finds herself being pulled along by a stranger. Noe on the run and both being targeted by one twisted powerful man ready to take over the family business, Kaylee and Julian are running for their lives

I received this book in advance for a voluntary honest review. Got to love B.B. The book wasn’t what I was expecting to read but I truly enjoyed it. The story touches on a couple who are trying to make a change for the better. One is trying to be a better person and stop being a streetfighter the other is an addict forced into withdrawal who soon recovers and gets a new lease on life. Problem is, someone wants them both dead. Stuck together they must overcome the odds against them while they discover the love between them. Great story.

This dark and intense book starts out with a hard punch to the word EXCITEMENT I love a book where the words fly off the pages as you open it up case in point with Summer Loving. I've got some highlights for you: There's death, the betting kind of fights, a lover, some steamy love scenes, suspense, addiction, I'm going to warn you to hold on tight because from page one to the last page it's going to be one hell of a ride.

I did enjoy this book, but didn't particularly find it a dark romance, I've read darker by this author. It did take me a while to get into it at first as it didn't initially catch my attention in the way others by this author have. But once I did get into it I enjoyed it.
It was well written with a interesting storyline, with some action and plenty of steamy scenes. The characters of Julian and Kaylee were not my favourite by this author initially however they grew on me.

I enjoyed the latest from B.B. Hamel. This book is dark, gritty and full of drama. Julian and Kaylee meet in the most chaotic of situations and yet the path they travel together is one I think both of them had to take in order to get the ending they deserve. Julian and Kaylee will have to fight together in order to survive. Kaylee should have Julian for how they meet and yet the attraction will not be denied. Liked the book. Thought the plot was a little weak/ farfetched but still liked the way it was executed. Characters had sex at strange times to me and the hero seemed to use sex to control the heroine a little. But other than that, it was enjoyable to watch their relationship unfold.

Loved the ending (not the epilogue, but the end of the story). I've never read a book where the drama ended that way which is the main reason for my high rating.

Summer Loving is a very slow start read. I was kinda bored when I started reading but then about halfway point is when it starts getting more action. I had to remind myself it is fiction because some of the situations were downplayed as minor when if it was reality would have been much worse.

Give the story a shot. It has criminal activity, drugs, and of course some hot scenes. For those reasons I recommend this book for readers 18+. But don't be surprised with the slow start.
