Rate this book
Amara Maria Robles is a good girl. So good that she gave up her dreams of becoming a renowned pastry chef to help her parents with their struggling Mexican bakery. Yet her parents reject any changes she suggests, and refuse to sell her mouth-watering confections. Clearly being a good girl isn't paying off. So when her brother's sexy ex-best friend walks into the bakery, Amara's tempted to be very bad indeed...

After a scandal twelve years ago, resident bad boy Eric Valencia has returned to make things right with his family and friends. One glance at Amara and her wicked curves, however, and Eric finds himself thinking about how she’d feel beneath him—something he promised Amara's brother he would never think about, let alone do.

But this bad boy is in deep trouble...because Amara's determined to have her cake, and Eric, too.

2 - "You're not the only churro in town." Stars.

The one positive that I have taken from reading Delicious Temptation is that the author has a great writing style. The problem that I have is that pretty much everything else about the book was all so very lackluster, the characters; their back stories and the book as a whole was just extremely negative.

”You’re twenty-six and you still let your parents run your life.”

I struggled with Amara, the above quote pretty much sums up why, at that age you need to grow a pair of cojónes, and live your life for you, being brow beaten by your small minded, and blinkered parents, after they have guilt-tripped you into giving up your own dreams was just one step too far for me.

”Stop doing what everybody expects you to do and start doing the things you want to do.”

Eric was the anti of everything I want in my book heroes to be honest. He has returned to town to right some of the wrongs when he left 12 years ago, although to be honest, his situation doesn't really leave him much choice. But all he succeeds in doing really is lying to pretty much everyone around him, which in effect lives up to the low expectations they already have of him, add to that sneaking around with Amara like they are still teenagers, it just didn't work for me.

”Screw being the decent guy.”

This is my first book by this author, and although it wasn’t a winner I would consider reading more from her based on the fact her writing style was easy to get along with, it is just unfortunate that I can’t say the same for the characters on this occasion.

ARC generously provided by Entangled, I am sorry I cannot offer a more positive review on this occasion.

Quick(ish) Review
I loooooved this so much. I knew I had been hoarding this on my TBR Mountain for a rainy day and today is finally that day.

Amara Robles came home after years away building her career as a pastry chef to help her family’s struggling bakery in East LA, and sometimes, when you go home, the preconceived notions people have of her as the “good” girl make breaking out of that mold difficult for Amara. Eric knows all about preconceived notions, as the neighborhood “bad” boy goes back to his childhood home in East LA after being away for more than a decade, to care for his ailing grandmother. He realizes that people have long memories and trying to change your ways is sometimes easier said than done. And sí, romance happens.

I loved the ‘verse that Ms. Sol has created with these characters, and I was swept up in the attraction between Eric and Amara. I’m a big believer in how the Firsts (meet/kiss/love scene) are the building blocks to a romance, and their Firsts were most definitely memorable - sexy yet emotional. So, romance development satisfying? Check.

On their individual arc front, I thought the parallels between them as far as the difficulties they each encounter going home again, and both get their time to shine. Having grown up with protective parents, I completely empathized with Amara’s struggle to stand up for herself while still being respectful of the parents that love you. Eric’s spent alot of time living down to people’s expectations, and trying to change them now that he’s clean, sober and grown up doesn’t mean that folks don’t have long memories and short leashes they want to put on you. Each of their professions factors into the story in a logical way, and Amara’s baking just made me long for a sweet treat. They’re hot tempered, and some of their conflicts were a case of “acting before thinking,” but I didn’t mind. In the end, what mattered was that I understood why they were acting the way they were, and I appreciated seeing them grow and learn from each other.

As a Latinx reader, I’d never connected with a story as much as I did with this one, and it’s filled to the brim with vibrant, Latinx characters that I want to get to know better (oh yeah Brandon and Daisy, I am SO looking at you). I tore through it in one night, and have eagerly dived into the next in the series.

If you want to read a Latinx romance with the H’s that I love - heat, heart and humor - then I happily recommend this. Onto the next.

Unfortunately Delicious Temptation failed to tempt. If I'm honest, I could've put this down earlier than 50% but I wanted to give it a fair chance.

It's not badly written, there is no issue with the authors writing style and I wouldn't write-off future books just yet. My issues were with the characters and the storyline. Ordinarily I like the older brother's best-friend trope, but I struggled to warm to either Amara or Eric. The only way I can think to describe them is as overgrown teenagers sneaking around behind their parents back, both too weak to stand-up for themselves. One quote can pretty much back-up my feelings.

"You’re twenty-six and you still let your parents run your life."

These were the type of characters I'd expect to find in a NA read as opposed to one from the Brazen imprint and I have to be honest in that I very much struggled with it all round and it just wasn't for me.

Not working for me at all. There's too much "you can't touch my sister/daughter" stuff going on, and it is very insta-lust. The heroine was 12 last she saw the hero, and he is instantly kissing her face the moment he re-meets her (doesn't recognize her even though she's working in her family's bakery and he was best friend with her brother). The couple isn't talking as much as I'd like, and she's desperate to have him have sex with her without explaining to her family she's an adult and can do what she wants.

Sometimes, a person can be too good, too accommodating and forget to think of what they need. Amara is beautiful, hardworking and has put all of her hopes and dreams on hold when her family’s small bakery is in trouble and her parents are unable to run it. She has her own dreams and ideas to help save and grow the bakery, but her old-fashioned and proud father is adamant that things will not change.

Eric has made some huge mistakes in his life and it’s time to come home and make things right. He wants to put down roots and “come home.” After all these years the shock of seeing little Amara all grown up puts him in danger of stepping over the “you do not date your best friend’s sister” line, even if they are now ex-best friends. Apparently Amara has other thoughts on the subject and the game is on! Can Eric resist this bundle of fire and sex appeal hidden inside the little “good girl?” Amara knows desserts and Eric looks better than any confection ever made! Should they keep their attraction secret? Are they holding back from each other? Is this the real deal that can stand the test of turmoil and drama?

Grab the ice pack, things are heating up at the bakery and I don’t mean the ovens! Delicious Temptation by Sabrina Sol takes one strong minded woman, one man who has met his match and added just enough spice to make her tale memorable. Every author has their own style, their signature, and Sabrina Sol has done a wonderful job with a path well-traveled. Then again, what’s not to love about love?

I'm generally not a fan of the Best Friend's Little Sister trope because I find the underlying paternalism too icky, but this one hit spot and I inhaled it in it's entirety on a lazy Sunday morning. It helps that it features one of my favorite themes - characters trapped by their pasts and yearning to break free of their reputations. The heroine is tired of being the "good girl" - especially since it's led her back to East Los Angeles to try and save the family bakery, only to have her parents dismiss all her ideas. The hero is a former bad boy who used to lead the heroine's brother astray and dallied with most of the neighborhood girls. He knows he's not nearly good enough for her, but that doesn't stop from the insta-lust kicking into overdrive.

I loved the backdrop of the family bakery and Sol nails the East LA neighborhood. Fans of steamy small town contemporaries should give this one a look - yes, even though it's set in an urban area. Trust me.

The sex scenes were the best thing about this; well drawn, hot, definitely where the most chemistry was between the MCs. I liked the bakery setting but this didn't hit my sweet spot with food descriptions. Not enough detail, and we don't get to see her thinking about baking enough. The characters are a bit thinly drawn for me, and the resolutions of the various arcs and obstacles don't really feel earned enough. Its also one of those romance arcs where it would be resolved if people just communicated, which is not my favorite thing. I wish I had cared more about the characters, but I didn't feel like I really got to know them well enough.

I tried... but just couldn't finish this one. It was slow and I found Amara to be incredibly annoying. I understand her devotion to her family, but at some point she needs to stand up to them.

Delicious Temptation was a less-than-stellar read for me. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very good either. I grew easily bored at times, and even got a little frustrated with the characters, but thankfully I never actually hated any of it. This book was just too predictable, although I did love the cupcakes/bakery aspect of the story. The heroine being a pastry chef brought a unique twist to the story, but the characters themselves were not as enjoyable for me.

Eric Valencia has come back to his home to fix the wrongs he made twelve years ago. A recovering alcoholic and former bad boy, Eric had great potential to be the kind of hero who overcomes his past and fights for his future. While I liked his character slightly more than the heroine’s, I still struggled to connect with his character. I normally love the older brother’s best friend trope (in this case, he’s the older brother’s ex-best friend) but I just didn’t get excited over Eric and Amara falling for each other.

Amara was a character who I honestly just didn’t like by the end of the novel. She’s a pastry chef who leaves her job to go back home to help out with her parents’ struggling bakery, and she has no backbone whatsoever. She does what she’s told to by her parents, and when she tries to state her opinion, she gets shot down and doesn’t stand up for herself. She’s a grown adult and yet she’s still allowing her parents to control her. Of course, she breaks out of that once she sees Eric again and they spend more time with each other. But by the time she finally does take a stand against her parents, I was already bored of her character.

The only redeeming things about this book were the writing and the actual bakery. I really enjoyed the writing, so it was disappointing that I had a hard time liking the characters. I was fascinated by all the Mexican baked goods Amara made, and I was impressed by how well the author described them.

If you’re a fan of the older brother’s best friend trope, you might have a better time with this book than I did. I’m definitely still open to reading other books from Sabrina Sol, since I like her writing, but I just struggled too much with the main characters.

I REALLY enjoyed this book. Both Amara and Eric are trying to prove themselves. She's been called home from a pastry chef job in Chicago to help the family's struggling bakery except her parents don't trust her to do anything BUT bake (and nothing out of the box). She attempted a cupcake shop early in her career and lost a bunch of money and now, despite her talent and hard work is never allowed to live it down and never allowed to be anything but a child in her parents' eyes. A "good" child, but a child.

Eric made a TON of mistakes in high school and is a recovering alcoholic. While his grandmother is supportive, his mother is so scared for him to fall that the two butt heads constantly. It doesn't help that the neighborhood still only sees his past mistakes, which makes it very difficult for him to keep holding his head high no matter how much progress he makes.

And SO, no one wants the two of them together, especially as Eric is Amara's brother's former best friend (they are SLOWLY reconciling). So the two of them start a secret friends with benefits thing because they have AMAZING chemistry and the book is about the two of them figuring out their lives and how to live them out loud as they are now, not as they were in the past as WELL as find a place for each other in those lives.

Watching them figure out how to move forward and take risks was lovely and resonant. I adored all the family relationships and how IMPORTANT they were and how no one was "bad" it was just about figuring out how to love each other without killing each other.

The sex and chemistry were HOT and it was all such a lovely delight to read and I am so READY to read book too. I am SO grateful that this was recommended to me!

I enjoyed this one quite a bit, but I really hate when books have mothers who will not let their grown children make their own choices. It's a thing for me. That said, this book is really lovely and I especially loved the way Eric supported Amara going for her dreams. I'm looking forward to continuing the series because I really liked Daisy even though I think the set up for book two could have been handled differently.

She was really getting sick of people who felt they knew what was best for her without asking her what she wanted.

Have you ever read a book that is not exactly brilliant literature but that resonated with you in a way you can’t really explain? That was this book for me. Let’s try to dissect why that is. Firstly, I’m a huge advocate for finding good New Adult out there, without clinging to the stereotypes that this genre has around it. I thought that even though this book followed a lot of the tropes that we’re used to seeing, it had a feeling and soul behind it that made it special in its normality. Secondly, the Latin American culture that held to every part of this book was so gorgeous. As we all know I think, the most popular books are always by white authors so we’re used to them, seeing something that has so much culture around it, where the characters are not stereotyped, where they all have such interesting stories but who also intertwined with their heritage and their families’ history so much resonated a lot with me.

Even though those things were super important to me, especially the Latin American roots since it hit close to home, the main thing that I liked about this were the characters. The fact that they were all complex but flawed and that they all were working on those flaws but they were also working to make their dreams come true was beautiful. But nothing came easy for them and that brought a realness to the book. Even if they were falling in love and having sex and whatever, there was a bigger plot that was difficult to confront because it’s a reality that a lot of people have. The judging by a community, trying to save something that’s precious to your family and without losing what makes it special but also looking forward, the lost and the grieve but also the happiness of friendship and family. Also, the tasty Latin American treats that made me hungry throughout this entire book!

There were some things I didn't like though. I thought there was a bit of a harmful trope of making the latino love interest a bad boy with a dark past. We could do without those tropes anymore. But I appreciated his growth and how you could tell he was trying to be a better person for the people he loved and that he was a multifaceted person and not only a "bad boy". I really disliked the fact that we had another almost-virgin super nice girl with a bad boy, especially since he treated her like she was sixteen when she was a 26 year old adult. There were condescending things that were said by him that I couldn't believe were said by an almost 30 year old man. There's another thing I didn't like, I totally understood Amira's character and arc since I've had that super close but complicated relationship with my parents as well but all the time it seemed like she was about to do something and then contradicted herself and that's one of the most annoying things for me in books, especially when they do it multiple times, when they are about to change their entire lives and then something happens and they decide not to do it. It's super irritating. Other than that, I don't know if a lot of people will see how special this book is but I definitely could and if you're latinx and you like New Adult, this might be the book for you!

Sabrina Sol has brought something Entangled Brazen has been missing, diversity. A contributing factor to me wanting to read Delicious Temptation was because the hero and heroine were both Mexican American. The fact that there was a bakery involved and the possibly of recipes had nothing to do with it. Okay, maybe a little bit.

My takeaway from the book was that it’s real. The hero, Eric Valencia has made mistakes in his past, but he’s trying really hard to atone for those mistakes. Unfortunately for him, when he left his East Los Angeles neighborhood twelve years ago, no one knew why he just disappeared.

Amara Robles has always had a sort of crush on her brother’s best friend. She knew Eric had a less than desirable reputation and that her parents didn’t care for him, but that didn’t stop her heart. When she finally sees him again, she can’t help but to want to take what he’s offering.

Amara and Eric are both characters who are at a crossroads in their lives. Amara wants to prove to her parents that she knows how to run a successful bakery business and that her creations are truly good. Eric just wants to start fresh and leave the reputation of being a bad boy behind.

The two start a secret relationship that turns out to be more powerful than either expected. They each lie to themselves that the relationship is only temporary, but each secretly wonders if it could be permanent.

I think Delicious Temptation is a really good start to the Delicious Desires Series. I have an idea of where this series is going to go and I’m looking forward to reading Brandon’s story. I have a feeling his heroine is going to be Daisy (Amara’s cousin), I just wish it wasn’t them. I say that simply because they are both pretty strong characters and I want them each to have their own story. However, you definitely do see the undercurrent of tension between them. I can’t wait for the next book. My only complaint is that there isn’t an Epilogue. I love seeing what happens to a couple after everything has worked out for them.

Sabrina Sol is a new-to-me author and as soon as I saw the announcement for this book, her debut Brazen release, and I read the blurb I just knew I had to read it. So when an e-mail came from Entangled with this one as an option for review, I immediately signed up and to my great pleasure I was approved!

I must say what really attracted me to this book was the fact that it was a foodie (pastry chef) romance with a best friend's (okay ex-best friend, but that makes little difference to me) little sister trope. These are two of the things that will put a new-to-me author on my radar.

I liked most of the characters, except for Amara's mom. She was mean and judgmental and for most part of the book I disliked her. I really liked Amara, she was funny and very easy to like. Also her resolve and struggle to stop others from seeing her as the good girl who always does the right thing was nice to read.

Eric was hot! The proverbial bad boy trying to make amends for his past and be good in the present. I loved how he tried to fight his attraction to Amara and failed splendidly.

I reall liked Sol's writing style. It's quick, fun and hot with just the right amount of expliciteness. But it was emotional too, with depth to the characters and story. The last chapters had me wiping a few tears as loss and love came together to make a well-deserved HEA for Eric and Amara.

Favorite Quotes:
"[...]I thought it would be better if our first time was somewhere, you know, less dirty.” He frowned. “I want it to be, I don’t know, nice I guess.” There was that word again. She clenched her hands into fists and struggled to not scream. She was so tired of people associating that word with her. She didn’t want “nice” sex. She’d had enough of nice sex with her old college boyfriend, “Mr. Missionary.” For once in her life, she wanted splintersin-your-back-hair-pulling-lip-biting-crazy-hard-hot-sex.

“Well, I’m waiting. Am I going to rip this dress right off you so you can never wear it again, or am I going to slide it off your body using only my teeth?”

** I received an advanced readers copy of this book from Entangled: Brazen via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

This book was an average book for me. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it but at the same time I probably won't remember it. I felt like it needed some work to make it a more memorable story.

The characters were slightly underdeveloped and the attraction between Amara and Eric was even more underdeveloped. I didn't get the chance to feel the chemistry between the two before they were locking lips. There was no anticipation and build up to their first encounter. It made me a little indifferent to the whole thing. Then after the first encounter there was an annoyingly long lull in which they fought the attraction that I was having a hard time feeling in the first place. I really think that a little more work on the interactions and development of the two characters would have made it hotter, sexier and a little more exciting. The two of them also came across a little young and immature for their age. I had to keep reminding myself that they were not teenagers.

It may seem like I am being harsh and that is not my intention. I thought the guts of the story were good and enjoyed that aspect of the book but the characters could have used a little bit of help. They fell a little bit flat which made it hard for me to connect and care about them. With a little more tweaking I think they could be great and give the story what it needs to reach above average.

Ok, so there were things I liked and others that I wasn’t much of a fan.

We have Amara on one side, with her love of baking and her incredible talent. Except that her parents were total jerks and didn’t trust her at all at something she went to school for. I mean, come on, she was offered a great job and she refused it to help them. They least they could’ve done was to say thanks. Jeez, they annoyed me to no end. I also didn’t like how Amara let them run her life. She was an adult with talent pouring from her and yet she still acted like a teenager when it came to her parents. I was really glad she finally grew a pair at the end, but it really bothered me how she let them treat her.

On the other side, we have Eric. A guy who after a bad past, just wanted to start over. Too bad no one let him forget about his faults. I really felt for him, he wanted to do well and had to constantly fight other people’s stupid opinions. Give the guy a break.

As for the two of them together, I don’t know, I did feel the chemistry, but considering they were both responsible adults, I felt it was unnecessary to go behind her parents’ and everyone’s backs. Who cared what they thought, ya know? Still, it was nice to see that at least someone believed in her talent, and that he could actually change for the better.

The story has a little bit of everything and OMG the recipes, lol. I really wanted to visit that bakery. All in all, a nice read.

Delicious Temptation...I totally loved the title and how it played into the whole bakery concept! As I was reading the story, I just knew for certain that the title would end up being the name of one of Amara's cupcakes. In fact, there were several descriptive terms that I thought would make good cupcake names. Ha!

Overall, I liked this contemporary story. I liked the cultural flavor that was weaved into the romance. I also liked the insane chemistry between the lead characters, as well as the internal and external struggles that each character had to deal with. I thought the author did a really good job of showing each character's doubts, insecurities, strengths, struggles and growth. I loved the direction and pacing that she moved the story forward with. It was great!

In terms of Daisy and Brandon, I want more!!! No kidding. Sign me up for that story.

Amara moved back home to help her parents with their failing bakery. She's a good girl and a good daughter. Eric moves home to help his sick grandma after 12 years of being gone. He left town and never looked back. He was the town bad boy, the type of guy that girls would date to make their parents mad. When he moves back to town, he runs into his ex-best friends little sister, Amara, and their is some serious chemistry between these two. Eric promised his friend he wouldn't touch his sister but sometimes you just can't fight attraction. I really enjoyed a lot of this story. Amara and Eric were hot together and I really liked the forbidden aspect of this story. They also have a good friendship and good chemistry. I would've liked an epilogue but overall I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest reveiw

In this book we meet Amara Marie and Eric. Eric use to be friends with Amara Marie's brother but one day he just disappeared. Now he is back but no one knows why but Eric knows that he wants to get to know the gorgeous woman in front of him but when he finds out who she really is it makes him wonder if this is a good idea with him trying to get back in her brother's good graces.

Amara Marie knows she wants Eric just like she did before he disappeared all those years ago but can she get him to see her not just the young girl he barely noticed growing up.

As both of them take notice of the other and want more they have to decide how much are they willing to risk to have that more. It is an amazing story I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

I really loved this story! Amara Robles has always had big dreams. Unfortunately the demands and needs of her family have kept her truly pursuing them. Now once again, she's back home helping to run the family bakery. Eric Valencia has made some huge mistakes in his life but he's on the right track now. Back home to care for his Abuela, he's sober and working hard to rebuild his life and business. Getting involved with anyone was never in the plans but after seeing Amara he can't get her out of his head.

This two are fantastic together and they both seem to bring out the best in the other. I really enjoyed reading this from the first page to the last. I definitely recommend it.

When Eric gets a booboo he has one remedy he wants Amara to give to him, "are you going to kiss it and make it better?” he asked, his voice low and husky." He's always locked and loaded when his girl is around, "his c*** jerked to attention . “Sounds good to me. I’m ready to go." He says the most romantic things, "God, I want to bend you over and eff you right here,” he growled." He's always looking out for his girl, "careful now. I’d hate to see that beautiful a** get burned.” Amara nearly dropped her trays at seeing Eric standing in the doorway holding a mini-tower of pastry boxes." I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed Amara stepping into her own skin and finding herself

DNF at 30% - just couldn't get around the mannerisms and language of the characters, which to me felt like they were teenagers, not adults. And the hero didn't appeal to me either, his insta-sex attraction to the heroine didn't feel natural. I liked the bakery premise and the recipes sounded delicious. Just not for me :-(
