From author Nikki Ash comes a stand-alone friends to lovers, surprise pregnancy romance.
Lexi You don’t find love... it finds you. Alec is the steady in my crazy, the light to my dark. My best friend. He might be the one for me, but I’m not the one for him. He deserves to have a wife, kids, a home—the complete package. How can I build those things with him when I feel so incomplete, afraid I’ll never be enough? I lose myself in surfing and my art, desperate to find the meaning of my life. Until Alec confesses his feelings to me, and a tidal wave of emotions threatens to take me under. Because I feel the same. But the darkness isn’t finished with me... not even close.
Alec You can’t help who you love. It’s always been her—my wild and carefree best friend. I know she thinks she’s not enough, but she’s exactly my kind of beautiful. But a girl like Lexi needs to be free, and I would rather love her from afar and keep my best friend, than love and lose her. Then an unexpected loss shatters my world and all bets are off... proving life is too short. No more secrets, no more waiting. It’s time to make Lexi mine. Mine to kiss, mine to touch, mine to love. All. Mine.

Everyone loves a best friends to lovers book and this one is no exception its one of those books where you'll be invested in from beginning to end making this an unputtdownable book. I rode the wave of feels as this author threw everything at me from the angst to the suspenseful ride which I found myself on.
Lexi & Alec have been friends for ever, they live together, they both have feelings for each other, but neither wants to cross that line incase things don't work out.
Alec is a firefighter/paramedic for the last five years and had recently been promoted to lieutenant. Lexi is a free spirited surfer who dabbles in painting graffiti all over abandoned buildings but doesn't know what she wants to do once she finishes college.
A push and pull of boundaries are crossed when Alec decides to pursue what he can only imagine will be his forever, he just has to convince Lexi of the fact.
I'm such a huge fan of this author, and since I truly loved MKOL (the first book in the series, and with that wicked sort of cliffhanger I couldn't WAIT to read this book) and for the most part, this book was amazing. But, there was just such a huge inconsistency/plot hole that took away from me truly loving the book the way I wanted to.
Let's start with what did work for me: the first half of the book is excellent! Lexi and Alec are the best of friends, and both are hiding their true feelings for each other. Lexi has been in love with Alec for as long as she can remember, but because she's so free spirited and none of her other relationships have ever worked out in the past, she doesn't want to risk her most important friendship by giving into her feelings. Alec is trying hard to not ruin their friendship either, but when a tragedy strikes his life, he's reminded of how fragile life truly is, and realizes he needs to grab onto every single moment he can -- even if he's scared. These two have such a beautiful connection, and I just loved the way they were around each other. Alec is a unicorn: so sweet and sexy, and knows exactly what Lexi needs, and just how to push her when she needs that too. It's so easy between the two of them, and you just *know* they are meant to be.. until tragedy strikes.
Now, this is where my conflicting feelings arise. I didn't mind the suspense element (especially since I figured what would happen with the introduction of that POS) but we never really know what ACTUALLY happened, nor do we get real disclosure, which just felt so off to me. I just wish we had a clear answer either way, but I did really love the way that Alec was there for Lexi throughout this entire, painful ordeal. He was always her rock and safe place, which I just absolutely loved!
I am in no way trying to be rude, because I truly adore Nikki and her books, and I will continue to read them and this series. I loved the majority of this book, but the last half/confusion as to what really happened to Lexi left me from loving it as much as I wanted to.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.*

I am just so in love with this series! My Kind of Beautiful is just that- beautiful. A beautiful and emotional love story about two best friends who finally find a path to each other- only that path is unexpected at every turn. The carefree surfer and the devoted fire fighter are engrossing and charming leads, and their surprisingly emotional, sweet but bumpy journey to love was totally consuming- I read this cover to cover in one sitting. No one does sweet, tender love stories like Nikki Ash- and My Kind of Beautiful is now amongst my favorites from her.
Alec- SWOOOON. He is everything I love about a Nikki Ash hero. This sexy firefighter is beautiful inside and out- he’s a devoted friend and colleague, a loving family man, a man who loves fiercely and usually without restraint. And once he’s able to lean into his love with Lexi- it is unconditionally unrestrained. Nikki’s heroes always show me just how pure, sincere, and deep a man’s love can be- the kind of love we all hope to find. Despite never knowing if he can find a path to being with his best friend, Alec loves her faithfully anyways while by her side. Because he’s a man who leans into his heart. And once he opens up that heart to her- OH LAWD. The way he loves Lexi takes my breath away- the care, the tenderness, the unflinching patience and devotion. This is how you love.
And I simply adored Lexi. I loved her wild, carefree spirit. She has an artist's soul- she sees the beauty around her, views the world with hopeful, but critical eyes. Her passion, her zest for life is what drives her- I could feel the energy of her character pulsing off the page. I fell in love with her just like Alec. Nikki gives her a bit of existential conflict- torn between the person she thinks everyone wants her to be and the version of herself that she wants to be, the version she hasn’t quite figured out. She’s a bit lost, which makes her so relatable, but her heart is always with Alec. Outside of her family, he’s her constant- which is why she feels such fear about exploring her feelings for him. She can’t lose her person- and having only part of him is better than none at all.
Their chemistry is sweet, sincere, emotional, and tender- the kind of chemistry that no one writes like Nikki Ash. Since these two are best friends already, we jump right into a well established connection. Their familiarly, their comfort with one another, the way they know each other feels so real and intimate- and it makes the emotional angst of their hesitation feel more palpable and authentic, and the transition into more than friends feels natural. I loved them together- all the sweet love butterflies. This is the perfect evolution of a platonic connection to a soul searing love.
I love how Nikki keeps finding new challenges and obstacles to explore unconditional love in her stories. Her characters love rarely falters- that’s never really the conflict or angst. Rather Nikki always shows us how love can weather complications, pain, and unexpected hurdles- how adversity can strengthen a connection, how love can be sustained and strengthened- even if it makes it momentarily fragile. It’s why I love her love stories, what makes them so special- she doesn’t use conflict to tear her couples apart, she uses it to help them dig deeper into what’s between them. To make them stronger. And My Kind of Beautiful is such a moving articulation of that.
I know for some, the ambiguity of parts of this ending may not be your cup of tea. I don’t want to spoil- but don’t worry readers, the couple’s HEA/their togetherness is not ambiguous- we just have some unanswered questions about some other parts of their lives. But, I not only admire Nikki for ending a story in a way that may be controversial, but I also can appreciate this through the thematic lens of this story. Because life isn’t always neatly resolved- and we don’t always have all the answers. Of course, this is a more dramatic take on that uncertainty- but the point is resonant none the less. The path to love isn’t always easy or clear. The path itself is never perfect. Sometimes the road to getting there can be quiet bit of ugly. Because life isn’t always beautiful, but the love you find? That love is what is beautiful.
Nikki never fails to give me all the feelings- this is one of my favorite books of hers to date! I am so in love with this series, and I can not wait for the book coming next- we get some awesome insight into Georgia and Chase in this book, and I am DESPERATE for more. This is fast becoming my favorite Nikki Ash series yet!
My Kind of Beautiful by Nikki Ash is a stunning, beautiful and emotional friends to lovers story. It is filled with angst, tension, suspense and all the feels. From the moment I started this I could not put the book down. I was immersed in the story, the characters and their journey to love.
Alec is a firefighter, he has strong family values and is in love with his best friend, Lexi. After a devastating loss he does not want to waste a single moment more without letting Lexi know how he feels as he realizes life is too short to live with regrets. I adored his determination. The moment he decided he is going all in with Lexi he does not give up for one moment.
Lexi is free-spirted, beautiful and has a huge heart. Her passions in life are her art and surf board. Lexi has an amazing supportive family but feels something lacking and is fearful she will not be enough for Alec.
The passion and the romance between Lexi and Alec is timeless and unconditional. They adored each other as best friends for many years and the moment they give into their feelings for each and let go of the fear of loosing their best friend their connection is everything.
Through a series of events Alec and Lexi's relationship is tested in many ways and how they stay strong through it all was true beauty and pulled at my heartstrings.
I loved this beautiful story SO much and I cannot wait for Georgia and Chase's story next in My Kind of Perfect.
*I received an advanced reader copy from Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange of an honest review.
My Kind of Beautiful was definitely a beautiful friends to lovers story!
Lexi and Alec have been the best of friends for forever. These roommates have also been secretly lusting after each for about just as long. When tragedy strikes Alec takes a deeper look at his life and realizes he can't waste another moment and aims to sweep Lexi off her feet. Lexi is a bit lost throughout the book trying to find her place in the world and how what path she wants to take. When she finally goes for one events happen to completely derail everything. That part of the story is heartbreaking but the love this large unconventional family has for each other leaves you feeling happy again.
Great addition to this series and I am looking forward to the next book!
GAH! Nikki Ash just gets better and better!!!! MKoB was absolutely beautiful. It was full of unconditional love but gut-wrenching in its rawness. I thought I knew how the story was going to go after that sort-of cliffhanger in Lexi's story at the end of My Kind of Love but I honestly couldn't be more wrong.
Alec and Lexi were absolutely brilliant together. Both in love with each other since they were kids, but both too afraid to lose the other to take that step into more. But their friendship was so beautiful and free of any expectations or demands. Their connection was deep and pure as only kids can form and the fact that they managed to carry it forward over the years into adulthood without tainting it one way or other, was absolutely heart-warming and brilliant and one of a kind!
Lexi's character was so relatable in her journey (view spoiler) that I couldn't help but root for her so hard. And Alec's steadiness and solidness in what he wanted and how he went about getting in....swoon!!!!!
I know Nikki Ash can do dark really well, but I was not expecting her to put Lexi and Alec through some very very rough waters (<---see what I did there? hehe). But once again, the writing flowed and the twists and turns just made it even more emotional and the HEA sweeter.
I have to say, seeing the baby characters from the Fighting series all grown up has made my year! Alec and Lexi were just babies when we met them in Nikki’s Fighting series. Now these two are all grown up and best friends. We even get to see into Georgia’s story a little. Lexi is a free spirit secretly on love with her best friend Alec. Alec is a fire fighter secretly in love with his best friend Lexi. These two are so sweet and there is so much sexual tension between them. They face hardships together and are the perfect support system. Will they get together? This book was so well written you have to read it for yourself!!!!
This is a story of two lifelong friends, Lexi and Alec, both trying to fight off their feelings for eachother. Let's just say, they fail extraordinarily at this. It's a beautiful story with some hard twists and turns, that had my heart clenched for a while.
⭐️ 5 "You're My Path" Stars ⭐️ My Kind of Beautiful was another exquisite novel from Nikki Ash! This was the perfect friends to lovers romance with all the feels! I'd been impatiently waiting for Lexi and Alec's story and I truly adored them. Their chemistry was so palpable and every single moment between them had me smiling, swooning, laughing. They're so perfect for each other and I was only waiting for them to take their relationship to the next level.
Lexi is such an endearing heroine. She's carefree and impulsive, but under this façade she’s searching her purpose. She's a beautiful soul, always ready to help others in need. Her special bond with Aiden was a great example of her big heart. Under all the confidence she exudes, she's plagued with doubts and doesn't feel good enough for Alec. She hides her love for him, afraid to see their friendship destroyed by these true feelings.
Alec is the calm to Lexi's chaos. This man is just everything I love in a hero. He's so devoted, protective and lost to Lexi. He’d do anything for the girl of his dreams and he shows it time and time again. Despite the fact he’s only her friend, it’s clear as day with the way he acts toward her that she’s so much more to him. He's down to earth and a sexy firefighter always there for his girl.
The evolution of their relationship was gorgeous and a punch of feels to the heart. The electricity between them led to seductive instants full of passion that had me breathless.
My Kind of Beautiful contained surprising events that had my eyes full of tears and my heart in shreds. These poignant scenes proved how Lexi and Alec's love is meaningful and everything! As much as I loved this couple, the supporting cast was also a huge factor in my appreciation of this wonderful story. I'm hugely intrigued about Georgia and Chase now. The tension between those two have me salivating for their novel, My Kind of Perfect, that promises fireworks!
** ARC received in exchange for an honest review **
Nothing gets my *happy sigh* heart racing more than a long time friends to more journey. Nothing is more swoon worthy than that, and Nikki delivered in spades with this story! GAH!
This is probably one of the most emotional reads by Nikki that I have had the pleasure of reading. She went all in with this one. I love that she made Lexi and Alec’s circumstances real and relatable. Their bond was powerful as friends and when they let go of all the static in their heads and jumped, they were unstoppable. Their journey to HEA was not smooth sailing, as it should have been, but with each passing circumstance/struggle, they were stronger for it. Their friendship was a thing of beauty. This story was a thing of beauty.
This absolutely amazing best friends to lovers romance evoked every possible emotion and I was completely captivated from beginning to end!
Lexi and Alec are best friends, roommates and neither think that their feelings are reciprocated. Lexi is a free spirit who loves to surf and lives her life on the wild side, but knows she’d give it all up for Alec. Alec feels that a relationship would be like taming her carefree nature and end up ruining their friendship.
As the sexual tension builds, neither wants to take a chance and gamble on losing what they have. I wanted to smack them both and wake them up...figuratively speaking of course ;).
Wow, when they decide to give the “more than friends” thing a go...they’re all in and things blast from slow burn to inferno in no time flat *cue fanning and swooning*.
With a couple of shocking twists, this book is definitely in the unputdownable category!
What can I say that I haven’t said before when it comes to Nikki’s books besides that I loved and enjoyed Alec and Lexi’s story so much, that I read it in one sitting. Lately it takes me 2-3 days to finish one book, but this was the exception. I won’t go into the plot, but I was really excited for Lexi’s book after that cliffy in My Kind of Love (book one in the series). I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the plot twist really got to me. I laughed, cried, and swooned! I really loved Aiden’s character. I can’t wait for Georgia’s book!
This friends to lovers romance latched onto my heart and gave it a vicious squeeze. I really loved Alec and Lexi and boy did my heart hurt for them. This trope is one of my favorites because it is always so emotion fueled. Being torn between going for the love you dream of and the friendship you need is never simple and always gut wrenching. This story gives you all that but adds additional drama and raises the stakes by taking things to a whole other level of intensity. I'm electing to post a objective review of my own volition.
So I got the first series as part of a box set for $0.99, so I said 4 books for that price, why not? They were all amazing. So amazing that I bought the next series (the kids) and then this series (grandkids). And I binged all of them in nine days.
Hit me in the feels - over and over!! Nikki Ash knows right where to land the punches with those powerful moments and I love crying through each and every one of them.
Alec and Lexi have grown up together, are best friends turned roommates, and while neither have ever mentioned the growing feelings between the two of them, they both recognize that jeopardizing what they have for romance isn't worth it, until the right moment it is. Taking that plunge is everything, but risking it all is what life's all about.
Alec realizes that if you can't life each day to its full potential then why live it without the one you love? When Lexi has to answer back with the ultimate hardship, and can they really survive it together?
Nikki's stories always bring me to tears and this beautiful story is no different. Not only do Alec and Lexi have their own challenges to face, but I love the beautiful messages brought out through the other people they encounter. Aiden hit me right in the solar plexus and I hope he touches you too and I'm dying to find out more about Georgia and Chase.
While this is interconnected with other characters, it can be read as a complete standalone as well and I hope the love that Alec and Lexi have for each other touch you as deeply as it did me. You really can't go wrong picking up a Nikki Ash book, especially when it's filled with so much right.
My Kind of Beautiful is definitely in the unputdownable category! An incredible best friends to lovers romance that evoked every possible emotion.

With amazing characters, lots of heat, entertaining banter, and a couple of shocking twists, this book had me captivated from beginning to end!
Nikki Ash is one of those authors who never disappoints. With My Kind of Beautiful she has masterfully created a beautiful friends to lovers romance that will leave you feeling content.
My Kind of Beautiful is a stand-alone romance in her newest series Finding Love. It does have characters from two of her other series also, her Fighting series and Fighting Love series. I haven't read either of these series yet, but really need too.
I absolutely loved Alec and Lexi's story. The friendship they share, and love they have for each other is so beautiful. I loved Lexi's big heart. One of my favorite characters in this book though was Aiden. He really added that something special that helped knock this book out of the park.
I will anxiously be waiting for My Kind of Perfect which is Chase and Georgia's story.
Oh my stars. Nikki Ash once again weaves such a stunning tale. This time it is a friends to lovers one with that surprise pregnancy. But what she does with this one is so emotional and so raw that you cannot help but fall in love with Lexi and Alec. These two just make sense. Their push and pull even as much as they try to deny it to everything else. My heart ached as things progressed. Especially for everything Lexi is going through. But there is just magic between them. It is raw and emotional but the way he holds her up is just everything! One thing Ash is the master of is building up these emotions while keeping the concept of the surprise pregnancy fresh and unique. I felt what the characters felt. I wanted to just make them happy and nothing would hurt them. Ash took something and created something magical and very real with this story and so far, this series as a whole. I am dying to get my hands on the next one but Alec has really won my heart!
I LOVED everything about MKOB! The characters, the romance, the friendships, the parents (lol), the plot. If you are looking for a sweet, emotional best friends to lovers romance, this is it!!! Did I mention they are also roommates? 😉
After the way MKOL ended, I was super excited to find where Lexi and Alec’s story would lead us. Nikki Ash did not disappoint! The chemistry between these two is 🔥🔥. Lexi is a college student and a surfer, but she isn’t sure what she wants to do with her life. Alec is a firefighter and has his life together. These two couldn’t be more opposite in many things, yet they balance each other out.
My Kind of Beautiful…is breathtaking!! Alec and Lexi have been friends forever. What both of them don’t want to admit is that they secretly want to be more than friends. Lexi is so afraid to take it further because she doesn’t want to lose her best friend. After something happens in Alec’s life he realizes that life is too short and you need to go for what you want. Can Alec convince Lexi to take the leap with him? I absolutely loved this story from start to finish. There are some twists and turns that are unexpected. Pick up this awesome book and devour it like I did. Absolutely amazing read!!!
Alec and Lexi’s story is the perfect ‘friends to lovers’ recipe we’re all looking for! Friends since they were kids. Families are close. Flirty and sassy banter. Oh....AND roommates!! There were many sweet and swoony moments, but also deep emotion brought about from some hard situations. I loved seeing the unconditional love that brought them through it all and closer together. Love this series and can’t wait for Georgia’s story!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE especially the first part of this book. It transports me back into a world I love with some new and beloved characters who melt my heart from previous Nikki Ash books. Eek it is so exciting to be getting third generation storylines.
Lexi is A-MAAA-ZINNGGG! She is the right amount of feisty and funny with an originality that keeps me intrigued. She has a realness to her that I found fascinating. Even when she is second guessing herself, I am her cheerleader. She has moments of insecurity, trying to find her purpose. Her interests (surfing) and the journey she is on is the best.
Alec is past yummy (wink). He had me at hot fire fighter. First responders are all things wonderful. Plan to love who he is as a person. He is raised in a blended family. LOVE IT! In my opinion you can never have too many people love you. He is a good guy with a great heart.
The friends to lover is done to perfection in this story. You see the how these two are forever friends first. Oh don’t get me wrong, they both have the insecurities of an unrequited love or at least that is what they think. When a tragic event happens and shakes things up, well let’s say I shed some tears but I also loved how it opened the possibility of more.
This story gives voice to subject matter that are disconcerting such as TBI, sexual assault. Yep I was swimming in adrenaline during these angsty moments. I am not sure it was completely accurate in the depictions of said happenings but it is, what it is, as you live in the fantasy world of romance. Wink wink.
Hard to say if I gave up on this before I even started - doesn't matter. I wasn't super into starting this after finishing book 1 My kind of Love. I already thought these characters were awkward and didn't buy into how they were going to actually fall in love...so i just, well, didn't buy it! DNF and won't finish this trilogy. I'll pick back up with Nikki Ash someday - I think she has a whole new run of a bunch of books these last few years and hope that I enjoy those more than this last few!
Lexi and Alec’s story has absolutely left my heart so happy. This couple, best friends who have always loved each other so much. They are absolutely BEAUTIFUL together. Their path is not easy. Your heart will break but in the end “you don’t find love...it finds you.” A beautiful 5 star MUST READ!!
Wow- Just wow!!!! There were definitely some surprises in this book I did not see coming! I love how determined of a character Alec is. He is in love with his childhood best friend Lexi and he is not taking no for an answer! They have great chemistry! Nikki Ash has yet to disappoint me!!! Read this you will love it, I guarantee it!
This is another amazing story by an author that never lets me down. Loved this friends to lovers romance that was full of family, tragedy, moving on, love and happiness.
Lexi and Alec have been best friends since they were kids. Alec is a firefighter/paramedic has been in love with Lexi for years. Lexi has no idea what she wants to do with her life but knows that she loves surfing, art and Alec. When a tragedy strikes Alec's family he is decides life is too damn short to not go after what he wants - Lexi. She just needs some convincing.
These two were all kinds of fun but holy heck did they go through way too much. My heart hurt for them both but I loved how as they each went through their dark patches the other stood by them, held them and pulled them from the dark. So good. I have to say though that with the way that My Kind of Love ended, I was not expecting MKOB to play out how it did. Very pleasant surprise.
Nikki Ash wows readers with her new best friends to lovers romance filled to the brim with angst, intensity, and unconditional love.
Alec is one swoonworthy firefighter best friend. He's heart has been set on Lexi, a complexly written surfer and artist. Childhood best friends who have secretly been in love with one another for years, finally admit the truth. But, can their relationship bear the burden of truth?
Ash always writes an incredible story with complexly written characters and emotional messages that rivet the reader. My Kind of Beautiful was no different. BFTL is my favorite trope in romance, Ash did it more than justice. It reeled me in and even through the heart shattering moments kept me engaged and hopeful. My Kind of Beautiful is an intensely captivating love story from cover to cover.
