Each title in the Dark Justice series is Morgan*Dark Hunt*Dark McCabe
Jenna Ryan was born in Victoria, British Columbia. After long stints in different cities across Canada, she returned home to Vancouver Island where she has lived ever since. She has had thirty-one books published in the Harlequin Intrigue series. Her ideas come from real life, and she is helped in her writing by her sister Kathy.
She enjoys reading and is a big fan of women's fiction, psychological suspense and mystery novels. She also enjoys watching classic suspense movies. She loves strong heroines, heroes with character, romance stories and a good whodunit by the fire on a rainy night.
Her heritage is a blend of English and Irish — which is probably where the gift of blarney comes from. She is unmarried, but involved with a wonderful man. She also has a little white cat named Sheena.
Whenever she is not writing, she travels as much as time and finances will allow. After North America, Europe is her favorite continent to explore, because it was in those countries that many of the myths and legends she drew upon in her early years of writing were born.
Growing up, she considered various careers and dabbled in several of them, including, after university, the travel industry, tourism, sales and modeling. Work in the fashion industry in Toronto and Montreal gave her an interesting peek into various aspects of that world. She learned that where money, power and people come together, there will always be unpredictability — an element she feels is essential to a strong mystery. Add a healthy measure of personal conflict, an intriguing setting and a spicy romance into the mix, and you have the ingredients for what she believes to be the best of all possible stories — a great romantic suspense.
McCabe is the third and final installment in the action packed Dark Justice series.
The book entered into its action theme as soon as it opened up. The author had hinted on a strong hold Mockerie had over McCabe that may have been shown in the previous books (I haven't read those). McCabe finally sees through his personal quest in this installment. Lead characters Rowena and McCabe had an interesting past and that was evident in their heated and passionate interactions. Sexual chemistry was flaming throughout the book. Though Rowena was cautious with her heart after being Burnes by McCabe in the past, she can't resist their undeniable pull towards each other. However, I could not connect with either the characters or the writing. That maybe due to the fact the series is new to me and I haven't read the previous two books in it.
The plot was fast paced with a healthy number of twists and turns but it still failed to keep me captivated all along. I recommend reading the previous two books in the series before diving into this one. It was just an okay read for me. For some reason I wasn't wow-ed by any of it.
Faking her death may seem extreme, but it's a necessary move to protect her son from his evil father. Unfortunately, her ex learns of her lies and not only kidnaps their child but is also determined to ensure she actually dies this time. Knowing she needs help, Rowena turns to the man who once broke her heart.
Ryan, a US Marshal, gave Rowena his heart and then destroyed hers, and his own, in the process when he had to walk away to keep her safe. Though the pain has lessened over time, his love for her never has. And now she's back in his life, with ties to the man he's been hunting for a long time. Ryan will do anything to protect her and rescue her son, all the while knowing she hasn't forgiven him nor forgotten how he hurt her.
Ryan has his work cut out for him, both personally and professionally, and it all centers around Rowena. But first, he has to get her to trust him, then he can make sure she lives, and her son is safe in her arms again, to prove to her that her future is with him.
Can Ryan focus on his mission? Will he save both Rowena and her son? Can she ever forgive him? Will she ever believe he didn't want to leave her, but would do anything to protect her? Will she ever be safe from her ex? Is a HEA possible?

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.**
McCabe is the third and final book in the Dark Justice series. Even though the author tried to keep each of these books as standalone reads, I think anyone who reads this one before the prior two will feel lost. This story wraps up the single common thread that's been developed throughout the series. There are a ton of twists and turns to the story, some I never saw coming. Rowena and McCabe have a painful past but when it comes to her son's safety Rowena knows she needs to suck it up and ask for McCabe's help. That fact that she's running from the man McCabe has been tracking for years solidifies the deal. Can Rowena really trust McCabe now?
This is a great action filled book that I think everyone will enjoy. I recommend it.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) We have come to the ending of this series and the ending was a twist I did not even imagine. While this is a series I felt that they were more standalones than a real series the only thing that connected them was McCabe and his quest for Mockerie, and that was what I didn't like. I felt that that all the characters or stories intertwined them at least a little and I wanted to know what happened with them besides the ending of the previous books. So as you can tell I was left with questions.
The third book in the Dark Justice series McCabe has past, present and future colliding. Twist, turn and a solid storyline made this a good read for me.
This is the final book in the Dark Justice series. This is the one that we finally get McCabe's story. You don't have to read the previous books in order to read this one. I only recommend it so you can understand how bad Mockerie truly is and why Rowena is trying to protect her son from him. This book gives us the story of exactly why McCabe is after Mockerie. Rowena faked her death in order to get away from him and keep her son safe. But now he has her son and she needs help to get him back. McCabe walked away from Rowena years before to keep her safe. But now she is back and and one the run from the monster he has been hunting for years. He will do what he must to keep her safe and take him down once and for all.
I really liked Rowena and how strong she was. She is willing to do anything (including die) in order to keep her son safe from a monster of epic proportions. McCabe has issues and seemed to be at times to have a death wish. But he is still a stand up man who will protect the people he cares about at the expense of himself if necessary. And that twist!! I was definitely not expecting that! Parts of it were kinda slow for me, which is why I only rated 4 stars. But on a whole I definitely liked it. I only wish that the other books and characters were a little more interconnected. And that there was something to show how they all are doing afterwards.
Dammit this is the last in the Dark Justice series! McCabe's been an elusive, enigmatic presence trugh the previous books. I just knew he was going to have an almighty back story. It's always been hinted at that he and Mockerie go waaaaay back but I was stunned at their link!
Rowena never realised that she is another bridge between Mockerie and McCabe. She went from one to the other, never realising that Mockerie saw her as another way to get back at McCabe. But having now seen him for the monster he is, she is determined to keep their son from him at all costs. Rowena thought faking her death and sending her son to safety would have done it but Mockerie is nothing if not dogged and once he realises that she is indeed alive, he won't stop until she is in his grasp once more.
She may have been devastated when McCabe left her, thinking he was protecting her, but if she allows him back into not only her life but her son's? She doesn't know if she would survive it!
Rowena has a spine of steel, even though she thinks she ruined her son's life. McCabe and Mockerie's animosity is biblical in intensity and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to the root of their hatred of each other. Would have liked an epilogue showing a glimpse f how life is now for the previous couples but otherwise I was a very happy camper with the conclusion to this series.
This is a book a really enjoyed and if sometimes I didn’t it was my own fault for not reading the entire series. Although you may read this one as a standalone, I felt a little torn away from the actual story and I had to dig around to see if there is more. I checked the reviews for the previous books and this is how I managed to understand what was really happening.
Rowena and McCabe are reunited by their common enemy and McCabe’s obsession. For a while now he has been hunting Mockerie. Apparently, if I had read the other books, I would have understood what kind of monster this guy was really, but I got a pretty good idea. Her need to protect her son leads her to the man who left her behind years ago. Now they both have to leave this behind and fight – for their son, for themselves.
What we have here are two very strong personalities, both determined to fight, both determined to do what it takes to win. While one has been on the run and hiding, the other has been waiting for a slip to catch the enemy. I liked them a lot, I liked their attraction, their love, their kid that connects them.
All in all, this was a story I devoured, with action that took some unexpected turns and made me wish to read the other books (even though now I am spoiled for the ending, I wouldn’t mind the ride). 4.5 stars and my love for the author and her book! Enjoy 🙂
Her only hope to find her son and stay alive, is to trust US Marshal Ryan McCabe even though she hasn’t gotten over their past.
This intensely thrilling story has strong, captivating characters that grab readers’ attention and holds them hostage from the very beginning. The romance is full of obstacles, emotional turmoil, intense situations, danger and lots of heated passion. The attraction between McCabe and Rowena burns with undeniable sizzle, but the past has a strong hold on Rowena and she doesn’t know if she can forgive McCabe for what he did to her which causes some intense emotions and the readers can easily connect to their situation and their feelings in regard to what is happening not only between them but also what is happening in their world.
This thrilling and fast paced plot flows smoothly with lots of intriguing twists and turns, betrayals and exciting action as McCabe and Rowena try to unravel their enemy’s world and stop him while getting Rowena’s son back from his kidnapper. The story is a bit convoluted and readers really have to pay attention to keep up with all the twists and turns, but readers won’t have a dull moment and might find themselves biting their nails in anticipation of what might happen next.
Although, the books in this series can be read as standalones, I found reading them in order really helped understand the characters much better since McCabe has been chasing the enemy that Rowena escaped from for a while.
Rowena is such a strong heroine. She'd do anything to keep her son safe and get him back. She loves her son more than herself and is willing to risk everything to make sure he has a future. While McCabe, he's a very protective and stand up man that will do anything. Not because it's his job as a US marshal but because Rowena is important to him. He left her in the past to keep her safe but now they need each other more than ever if they're to overcome the monster threatening Rowena and take him down once and for all.
Overall, this was an entertaining read filled with twists and turns that had me reading quickly, determined to see what would happen. Would Rowena get her son back? Would McCabe finally be able to take down the bad guy? Would he and Rowena get their happy ever after? Furthermore, I really enjoyed how this story ended. McCabe is a brave man that deals well under pressure and a man that deserves happy ever after. He's fought on the side of good for so long professionally that he deserves to finally have something good happen personally.
Wow! This book had such a crazy, adventurous, twisty journey from the beginning to the end. It definitely kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. McCabe was so full of secrets and Rowena had to keep trying to tear down his walls. I thought they made an excellent team working together to find her son and stop James. What an interesting, yet disturbing character he made. He gave me the weebie jeebies, like chills crawling up my spine the way his twisted mine worked. I loved the excitement in this book along with all the surprise elements going on. I felt for Rowena so much the times she interacted with her son. So bittersweet and heartbreaking, but a momma's got to do what a momma's got to do to protect her baby. I loved her strength and fierce determination along with McCabe's unconditional and never ending support. Definitely a great ending along with a little creepy epilogue. I only wish there was a little more at the end.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
This is the third book in the series and it begins with action and for the most is that way until the end. Having not read any of the other books I really did not know what expect, but was not disappointed where the action part of the story. Rowena fakes her death in order to save her son who she believes is safely hidden from her ex who she found out is not the person she thought he was. He is someone evil. Now she is hoping that she can find someone from her past Ryan McCabe who she fell in love with but broke her heart. He is also a U.S. Marshall and he is looking for her ex but for totally different reason. Thinking that she could be around him she realizes she can’t, but McCabe can’t let her go again and must help find her son and protect them. Many twist and turns some that I did not see coming. A good fast paced story though. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 3 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
McCabe appears to have wrapped up this three book series, but I feel devoid of emotion at this ending. While I have enjoyed the series, and many authors describe their books as able to stand alone, there seemed to be little connection between the stories other than McCabe and his personal quest. I would have liked a bit of a round up at the end to tell readers where the past characters were at and what was happening in their lives. Overall this was a good story, but it kind of left with more questions.
McCabe and Rowena was previously in a relationship before she started a relationship with Mockerie. She did some stuff and then Mockerie "killed' her after telling her he was going to take there son. Joke was on him at the time since she had him hidden. However, he finds him and kidnaps him so she goes to McCabe for help/ to get something back from him to use as a bargaining chip. I thought this book was okay. Perhaps I did need to read the previous books first... This is the third book in this series and I found it was easy to read on its own. This is my first book by this author.
I have not read the previous books in this stories, and for that I am at a disadvantage and felt I missed out on the story. Yes it was a story that had lots of suspense, action and romance. That said, I was not engaged in the plot, nor did I feel a connection with either Rowena and Ryan McCabe. My suggestion to a reader that is new to the series like I was, read the other books first. I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing . The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This story had mystery, suspense and action and I was pulled in from the start. Thanks to an intriguing prologue and the events that happen in the first couple of chapters.
And with great characters and an underlying tension and chemistry that bubbled along nicely, it was easy to stay hooked throughout. Plus, there were plenty of twists, shocks and surprises along the way and I would definitely read more from this series and author in the future.
**I was kindly provided with an ARC by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review**
Although this is the third one it is a separate storyline. The only commonality is Mockerie, the nasty SOB with a psychotic mind. It's a rather suspenseful twisted story of family ties, murder and a kidnapped child. I felt glued to the story from the first moment and attached myself to Rowena and McCabe quickly. From what I can tell it's the final one but the end is a gentle conclusion, open for possibilities. I wrote my review voluntarily after reading an early copy.
McCabe is the 3rd and final book in the series, I would recommend reading them in order for the best enjoyment. McCabe left Rowena behind to save her but now she has dropped back in his life. Both have been through a lot can they work together and find a future with each other. This is a fast-paced read with loads of suspense and drama. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. I really liked it.
While this is the third book in the series it easily reads as a standalone but if you have not read the two previous books give them a read you won't regret it. This is Ryan and Rowena's story and I was pulled in right from the very beginning it was well written with lots of twists and turns this is a great second chance romance and a super addition to the series
Ryan McCabe’s past has come back to haunt him. A childhood friend that has become a sworn enemy and the woman he tried to save by leaving. The path to hell is paved with good intentions and he will do anything to protect her. Staying one step ahead and obtaining the happiness that he long denied may bring them closer to danger. Suspenseful story that will definitely keep you going.
Oh the intrigue. Filled with numerous twists and turns it keeps the reader guessing and still manages to pull out big surprises at the end. There are steamy kisses and a HEA. Some of the characters are real oddballs that add to the enigma of the story.
This is a wonderful series filled with fast paced romantic suspense. In this novel, we learn Rowena's and Ryan's story and how Rowena ended up as the target of a madman.
While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the prior books in the series more, however, this is a worthy addition to the series. This novel has it all - a compelling story, lots of action, a hot romance, and a tragic hero/heroine. This should have been 5+ stars for me, but for some reason I just didn't feel connected to the characters. I don't know why this was, but I think it's just a personal thing where it either resonates with you or it doesn't.
I'm a fan of the authors' work and have her on my must read authors' list.
I truly had no idea who until the very end. So many twists that I almost needed a notebook to keep it all straight. I will be encouraging everyone to read this book.
Suspense, action, and romance. Three of my favorite things. I enjoyed Dark Justice:McCabe. I thought this was a well written book with a good solid story line. Very enjoyable read.
Highly recommend. Jenna Ryan writes a mystery so dark and so surprising, just as you think you know what is happening. She proves you wrong.
In Dark Justice: McCabe your introduced to Rowena who is a mother willing to do anything to save her child from a life of crime and death. From the beginning you see her willingness and smarts to survive. Her past catches up to her in the form of Ryan MaCabe. He is a mystery that keeps you guessing through the entire book. His hidden depths and secrets make you turn every page, wondering just what will happen next.
The characters are well built, the psychological games are mind games you can't help but try and figure out.
Just who is McCabe? Mystery man to be sure. How is Mockerie connected.to McCabe? How is Rowena connected to both of them? Questions, questions, questions! Good build up between all the main characters with a little love thrown in! How will it end? Only way to find out is to read this interesting book!
In her Dark Justice series, Jenna Ryan does not disappoint. These are part of a series but they work as a stand-alone. Mccabe's story is about the people in his life. Both past and present also those he’s loved and had to let go. Rowena is the one he left before he thought he would destroy her. Rowena was left behind and went looking for love and found James she thought he was a different man than he turned out to be. After discovering his dangerous side she had to get both herself and her son away from him. So she faked her death and stashed her son. Something she thought she had got away with. Until her son disappears from where she hides him. Now her only hope is to find Ryan Mccabe again and hopes he will help her. He never told her why he left one day with no word he just disappeared and left her heartbroken. Now her heart belongs to her son and she wants him back. McCabe wants to get him for her because he has spent his whole life looking over his shoulder for James. Whom he and everyone else calls Mockerie. Rowena stole information from his computer that she hopes will help her get her son back and get Mockerie in a jail where he belongs. Mc McCabe wants James in jail truth be told Rowena won't mind if he was dead. So this is an intriguing read with so many different people. Everything affects each part of the plan and each other lives. Rowena and Mccabe are still in love she knows how she feels But can't get him to even say why he left. You think you figured it out and then everything changes. I enjoyed this till the end and never saw it coming. Enjoy!!
This is the third book in the story but can be read as a stand alone. The author takes you on an adventure full of twists and surprise that will keep you wanting more.
Suspense spiced with romance. The psychological mind games kept me reading. I would recommend this book to my friends. I voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
This was book 3 in a 3 book series. I had not read the first two books, but I had no problem following the story. The story was full of suspense, mystery, action and romance. Lots of action! There were moments when I literally cringed from horror. The story was well-written and complex with great characters. I gave it 4 stars, because at the high point of the story when big confrontation happened it fell flat for me; however, it was still a great story. Plus, the epilogue held a twist that shocked me. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.
