Disappointing and seemingly hastily compiled

I found this book rather disappointing, and I’m not convinced that the author put a whole year of research (as stated) into understanding the life and attitudes of Elon Musk. At times, the book appeared hurriedly compiled, lacking independent proof-reading and editing – eg:
“What does a 19 year-old do in a strange city …? And within the same context of events (travelling across Canada) we learn: “He was still seventeen (a few weeks short of 18) …”

There are a few sentences that just don’t make sense, eg:
“Compound that with the fact that he had a unique mental framework that would be able to focus deeply on just about anything he was able to extricate himself from the world around him.”

I think the author aspires to be a psychologist and insightful analyst of human behaviour, but I’m doubtful about some of his conclusions, for example, that Musk and indeed everyone is driven by fear:
“It is not that he is a bad person, it is that he is driven by fear and it shows in many of the things he says and does. We are all the same way, but we can learn to be stronger by learning from the people that we read about.”

In fact, some of the author’s conclusions are quite bizarre:
“He may be someone that lacks original ideas, but he is a man that takes ideas that are on the shelf and makes them work.” …. “While Musk is not the visionary that everyone thinks he is, he certainly has the drive to make things happen.”

Elon is the subject of much commentary, so there is no shortage of other sources of information about his background, motivation, and achievements.

Fascinating book about the life and history of Elon Musk; just a bit jarring that the author kept repeating that Musk isn’t after all a great inventor or visionary because he uses existing models en materials to fulfil his imagined dream. In my view that is visionary; same as the fact that he is able to focus simultaneously on all his companies as director (Tesla, The Boring Company, Neuralink, Space X, Hyperloop to name a few).

I just could shed the feeling throughout the book the author is on the one hand impressed with Musk but Aldo doesn’t like him really as a person.

When Robert Greene finally publishes the 51st law of power I think it will he will base it on this line of biographies ...Rule #51: commission a biographer to publish a hyped negative expose’ on your greatness. Then command the biographer to only find trivial weaknesses and tie those vices back into what makes your greater than your rivals ..... well played Elon
