Where does beauty live? Where should we travel to find it?
Is a dawn without birdsong still beautiful?
What might we see through the branches of a cherry tree at night?
Can we crave the rose if we fear its thorns?
What does the heart have to do with beauty?
Few writers anywhere have celebrated the beauty of the world, of all creatures great and small, as magically as Ruskin Bond has done. This little anthology brings together his own ideas and images of beauty and those of writers and thinkers he has read and liked. This pocketbook is a thing of quiet beauty.
Ruskin Bond is an Indian author of British descent. He is considered to be an icon among Indian writers and children's authors and a top novelist. He wrote his first novel, The Room on the Roof, when he was seventeen which won John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957. Since then he has written several novellas, over 500 short stories, as well as various essays and poems, all of which have established him as one of the best-loved and most admired chroniclers of contemporary India. In 1992 he received the Sahitya Akademi award for English writing, for his short stories collection, "Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra", by the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters in India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 for contributions to children's literature. He now lives with his adopted family in Landour near Mussoorie.

Perspective : I'm writing this review while sitting under the pines and palms while having my coffee. I overlook and find the mighty Aravalli ranges staring back at me and find myself feeling grateful for that.
Gosh! This was one of the best books I have ever read. It's a simple concept but the content is heartwarming and wholesome. It's a collection of quotes, by numerous authors and sir himself. Now mind you, these quotes aren't just the ones we read everywhere, they have been selected in a way that maintains the quality of the writing. These quotes will make you feel warm inside and help you unwind.
November was a busy month for me study wise and reading this book at the end of the month helped me feel calm and helped me unwind. Some quotes once absorbed will make you feel a gush of emotions. I have included the images of some in here. I don't know how Bond Sa'ab does it everytime. It's made me eager to read more books of these series. One of the quotes was about not trying to capture all the beautiful things rather just to enjoy them and it's very surprising that while I was having my breakfast right now, I saw a squirrel and I tried to take a picture of it but it ran away before I could. That's where I related with this quote and thought it made do much sense. Sir's foreword in the book was also very interesting to read for it talked about multiple perspectives of beauty.
You know those moments where in you look at some thing, person or a phenomenon and you just mumble oh gosh! This is so beautiful; that's exactly what I felt while reading this collection. This title has made it to my top 5 favourites from Bond.
Ruskin Bond emphasises on the fact that so many people run after superficial beauty these days. Instead of appreciating imperfections and faults, we aim for artificial perfection. So, he has compiled some of the most amazing verses and quotes by acclaimed writers from around the world in this book. Along with that, he has expressed his idea of beauty and has encouraged the readers to form their own ideas as well. 🔹 Why you should read this book- 🍀 The verses in this book are very impactful and heartwarming. 🍀Reading this book will be very therapeutic and meditative for the readers. 🍀There is a focus on nature and minimalism. In a world where almost everyone is running after material things, Ruskin Bond has highlighted the true essence of beauty and happiness in nature. 🍀The language is simple and beginner-friendly.
It is a book containing poems and ideas from Ruskin and many other people around the world. I bought it on a trip to himalayas. I was surrounded by what is generally considered "beautiful" and it was in fact a sight to behold. Yet this book made me question the nature and my definition of "beauty". A perfect book to pick up when the glaring lights baffle you. It will make you realize and darkness has a character too.
A collection of really beautiful pieces (quotes/poems/sentences/descriptions). Most of the pieces are Nature inspired. I had my generous share of 'Ooohs' and 'Aaahs' and 'Ooofs' while reading this. Teleports you to a surreal fold between reality and blissful peace.
A Little Book of Beauty by (my favourite) Ruskin Bond emphasis on the beautiful soul we possessed but inspite of that how we still try to conquer that superficial beauty ,how instead of acknowledging the fact that our flaws are what makes us Beautiful and unquie we try to cover them with worldly fancies. Insted of appreciating our imperfections with try to achieve artificial perfection. 🌌 🦚 In this book Ruskin Bond has portrayed his idea of Beauty . In the world where everyone is running after materialistic things Ruskin Bond highlights the true essence of beauty and happiness in the lap of nature and in the soul . 🌌 🦚There are also some amazing collection of verses and quotes from different writers handpicked by him and also provided us with his pearls of wisdom. 🌌 🦚Beautiful compilation of enchanting and heartfelt verses and poems and has also encouraged the readers to create their own form of beauty. 🌌 🦚 This book has vintage illustrations and the mind blowing calligraphic fonts are definitely a treat for readers. The smooth impactful and heartwarming writing is therapeutic and acts as a medication for the readers . I reccomend this book to everyone for me it's a perfect bedtime book. 🌌
'Beauty is no quality in things themselves: It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them; and each mind perceives a different beauty.' -David Hume
Ruskin Bond says, 'there are many kinds of beauty- as many as there are eyes to see and hearts to feel.' How true! This yet another little book of quotes and thoughts opens up the mind to umpteen kinds of beauty. This book, like many other little books of the series, celebrates the beauty of the world through the words from the pens of writers and artists throughout the globe. This book will open the eyes of your mind towards the beauty of certain kinds in every living and non-living being from the surroundings. The most lovely thing about these little books by Ruskin Bond is that almost one-third part of the books is made up of blank ruled pages. He wants the readers to add something from their imagination and observation, and he is quite confident about his readers' success in doing so when he writes, 'Write them down in the pages provides for your notes. You might suroruse yourself!' This little gem is the one to cherish for the lifetime.
